Fantastic hotel

Just come back from Cancun after two weeks of bliss. Cannot fault this hotel. Staff were great and no complaints with anything. Best room I've had for draw space and I take a lot if clothes and the air conditions was great but best of all was the ceiling fan and the mini bar included in the all inclusive. We preferred the pool nearest buffet restaurant as looked over the beach and used that whole two weeks. Swim up bar lot more noisy and mist activities went on there. Cocktails were great and served proper vodka etc. Highly recommend it and great for going out and about for walk wit hard rock and coco bongos a few minutes away. Did go their as gold member and was dubious as I'm 55 but we had a fab time and highly recommend. Well done Riu Cancun for making out holiday so enjoyable will defo be back in the future More>

Nice hotel... horrible staff

We stayed here July 31 - Aug 6 2013. Sorry I couldn't sync my reviews from my other trip advisor acct. Let me start off by saying that when we arrived they took us to a room where they have their shows as they were explaining the hotel amenities to us we couldnt understand them they were talking to fast and no eye contact at all with us, I reassured that what I requested for a bday that the room was decorated and they told it would be , well gues what it wasn't they did decorate my friends room for that occasion three days later thinking it was my room they were decorating, she had no idea why they decorated. The staff in the buffet are always in a bad mood, buddy if you don't like your job then quit ! I've stayed at other hotels in Cancun and the staff is amazing, they never said good morning or good afternoon, unprofessional, we had a day wothot electricity and when we asked when would it be back they had no clue ??? The only person we liked from that hotel was Ysrael he was awesome! Kept bringing us drinks by the pool! We met a lot of people from around the world and I loved it , oh you need resevations for the restaurants the Mexican rest is never full but yet they never have openings ?? Staff is no good here ! I hate not being told good morning or good afternoon ! More>

Busy abd vibrant hotel

Went for 2 weeks with my 18 and 16 year old. Wanted a lively hotel with good facilities and we were not disappointed. The hotel was very clean- almost too clean as the cleaners were mopping the floors 24/7 making the flooors slippery! The service was excellent and the staff were very friendly and smiley.the thompson reps were really helpful and we visited an amazing steakhouse called 'Harry's' one evening. This restuarant was such a treat that would take a lot to beat. The hotel could get noisy but the beach and quiet pool were great areas. Had to get your sunbed by 7 but we were up early so wasnt a hassle. Weather superb, a few tropical showers which was a welcome relief from the humidity. I wouldnt recommend coming with yiung kids but for teens its a good hotel with the location right in the middle of town. I woukd rate the hotel a 4 star rather than 5 as there was no tea and coffee facilities in your room and the optics were a bit of a waste as you could ger all drinks in the bars. Also, having no room service was a bit of a shame but overall an excellent hotel. More>

Best Holiday Ever... Except one member of staff

I travelled to Riu Cancun in early July 2016. The hotel and the staff were exceptional*. The food was of high quality, and the room were fantastically maintained. Honestly the best and last family holiday ever. Worth ever penny. The staff through-out the holiday were great (10/10). Welcoming, friendly and always willing to help. *The only time that I was disappointed with the service was when myself and my friend went to the pool bar to order drinks, and the bartender was making homophobic comments about us, just because we ordered a 'strawberry Mojtios'. Apparently "that's a girls drink", and he then followed with a 'gay' gesture when we said it was for us. Other than that one situation, it was a great holiday, met so many people who have become good mates. Best Holiday Ever! Except that one situation. More>

A very relaxing 3 week holiday

At first we were allocated a room on the 5th floor. The room itself was lovely and spacious with a huge bed, the only negative was that there was no view to he seen unless you were stood up on the balcony. I understand that that's the way the hotel has been constructed and that someone needs to be allocated a room on that floor at some point but I wanted different room that gave a spectacular view. After being allocated a room on the 8th floor the next day the view was pretty good and that meant we could crack on with the holiday. Food 7/10 I give the food this rating as it's a bit samey but the main reason is that the food is usually luke warm for the most part, if you like your food piping hot you will be dissapointed for most of the food options. The Italian restaurant offers food options from the menu and is cooked fresh - the samon is grilled fresh and is so beautiful! This is a good option for lunch as it's fresher than the buffets. Staff 9/10 - some grumpy staff but for the most part very pleasant and customer service minded. - you've probably heard about tipping staff, they deserve it. A dollar here and there does go along way but a smile and Hello as you walk around the hotel is even nicer in my opinion, they are people so be nice. We tipped our maid everyday between 20 and 50 pesos. I would go out of my way to find the maid on the morning and say hello followed by my room number and hand over a small amount of money, the end result? Fresh sheets 90% of the time and towel art every other day and when these guys and girls earn 5000 mxn every month -tips it's a pleasure to know I'm helping them out the best I can as they work dam hard. The hotel drinks are ok. Ask for premium spirits when ordering cocktails or get the cheap stuff. The spirits in the room are pretty cheap, nothing special. If you like a drink in your room and prefer premium vodka, bacardi etc, across the road at the selecto supermarket they sell 1l of premium bacardi, vodka and Morgans for 6 pound each, worth the money considering how cheap it is If you like a nice drink before going out. I'd like to go back to mexico at some point but not this hotel again. It didn't give me the wow factor you might expect for spending a load of money on a holiday but having said that it's still a pretty good hotel and you won't regret staying here either. Cambache restaurant a must. Coco bongo gold a must. Padrinos pizza a must when you get bored of the food. Best italian food ever and they deliver! More>
