Wonderful Hotel

Stayed here with my wife for our 30th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. The Hotel is spotlessly clean and there is a never ending stream of cleaners working tirelessly all hours of the day and that seems to be the hotels greatest asset as the waiters and staff are so attentive and friendly. The food was excellent. We tried the Italian, Japanese and Steak restaurant and they were all of a high standard. I couldn't fault this hotel. But having read previous reviews I can empathise with other guests who mention loud American/Canadians. There appears to be lot of bachelor parties attend this hotel and we were unlucky enough to experience first hand a really unsavoury episode. We were awoken at around 4:30am to shouting and abusive language outside our room. This continued for many minutes so I opened the door to ask them to be quiet only to be confronted by two Mexican security guards trying to manhandle a drunken American into his room who clearly did not want to go. The abuse those two guards received was disgusting. But eventually went quiet. At approx. 6:30am there was a knock at the door, I got dressed and answered the door only to find the drunken American guy who attempted to barge past me as he wanted to use our toilet. I forced him out and closed the door. Later that morning when we left the room for breakfast we had found that he had urinated up our door, We reported to hotel reception and they offered to move us and apologised profusely. We only had one further night so declined the offer but it wasn't the best experience. However, it didn't spoil which was an absolute brilliant holiday.

Even thinking of this place, makes me smile and wish I was still there! From the moment we arrived till the day we left, I honestly can not find any faults. The hotel itself is beautifully modern, room perfect in size for 2 adults and suitcases. Large bathroom and all Riu's have the glass wall shower which is funky :) Pool and beach are incredible and always waiters around for drinks orders. Also never had an issue finding sun loungers which is a major plus. Food - there really is something for everyone, just difficult to not come home a stone heavier... however that may have something to do with all the pina coladas. Just don't forgot to tip the waiters every now and again it really does go a long way :) Coco bongos is a MUST DO!!! Enjoy!!!

Great holiday.

I would have rated this hotel 5* however there was a few negatives that I had to lower it. Positives. The hotel is set is the perfect location, close to nightlife coco bongos etc. The beach is beautiful with clear blue water and white sand. The hotel itself is very clean. From 7 in the morning til going bed you would always see someone cleaning and in high spirits. The buffet food is of high standards and by far the best I've had for an all inclusive hotel. Loads of choice for everyone. The staff are amazing throughout the bars to the restaurants. I have to praise Jose-manual who served us most mornings for breakfast and dinner, he went out of his way to cater to us and was very pleasant as was everyone. The wet bar near the pool was great as one drinking was finishing you was being topped up without even asking. Now for the negatives. We was in room 800 which by the looks of it was the worst room in the hotel although our room was of decent size our balcony was tiny and only just overlooked the ocean more of the front view I'm guessing all the hundreds are the same. If I came back I wouldn't accept the same room. The deco in the room seemed a little dated and needed work to make it the 5* standard. Upon arrival we had trouble with the ac and fridge leaked although we was told we could move it was to much effort to pack and unpack again. The tv as plenty of English channels which is good when you just want to relax for an hour and put your feet up. The pool bar was always full and loud. One girl was literally in the skimpiest bikini and was pouring tequila all over herself and having different men lick it off her. I'm not a prude but keeping in mind it was dinner time and is ment to be child friendly. Getting a sunbed was never any bother for is we was there from 31st Jan- 11th Feb but I would be down for 7am and beds would atleast be reserved which states wasn't allowed and towels station didn't open until 7 so they was either left over night or was up really early. All in all we had a fantastic stay and would definitely stay again. Just a few minor changes could really make this hotel perfect.

Great hotel but avoid if looking for relaxation.

I stayed at this hotel on 1st feb 2017 for 10 nights for my fiances birthday. The hotel laid on a bottle of champagne in the room which was a lovely gesture. I will list the good points and bad points about this hotel, however the bad points arnt necessarily the hotels fault. Good points.... The hotel was immaculate in every way. Our room was kept spotless all the time and mini bar was stocked up regularly. The hose on the shower broke in our room and i went to reception to report it and with in half an hour it was good as new. There is someone cleaning all the time round the hotel and moping floors and all done with a smile and a curtious greeting. I thought the food selection was fantastic and so was the quality. Didnt try the japanese resteraunt as it wasnt my thing, but the steakhouse we went to twice and the italian were both spot on. You were never stuck for choice of food and they laid on a poolside BBQ 3 times whilst i was there. The hotel itself is in a great location with the main nightlife ie coco bongo etc just 10 mins walk away but also plenty of shops nearby and a huge supermarket litterally over the road. The staff in the hotel couldnt do enough for you and were so attentive especially rosalina who served us everyday. As soon as your cup was empty it would be refilled straight away. Amazing service by all the staff. Right the bad points...... I would of given this hotel 5 stars if it wasnt for the loud rowdy americans/canadians who in my opinion spoilt the holiday. They would hang around the pool bar 7 hours a day and be loud, arrogant and obnoxious not giving any consideration to other guests. Also the animation team are a bit full on with loud blaring music from 11am til around 4pm which gets on your nerves after a while. Deffinately not a hotel if your planning a quite relaxing holiday. And the last thing was there was a horrible smell in our room throughout our stay which was reported but didnt seem to ever go away and it seemed to come from the shower grate. Room 927 So on the whole i did have a lovely time in cancun but the hotel needs to get a grip of some of its guests and how they behave otherwise it will go down hill.

Would pass on this place

Don't get me wrong Riu Cancun was clean, great beach and a nice entertainment team. However it was everything else that I was less impressed with. I understand that you should tip wait staff they work very hard and all day long to help you enjoy your trip. However with a few of the waiters during the shows at night if you did not tip them right away they never came back! As for breakfast in the morning out by the beach the waitstaff has no idea what is going on. Half the tables are empty but not cleared off the other half are just walking around to fill you water. Which leads me to food. It's just not very good. Besides that there is no room service and food is crap we are off resort a few times. Our room was amazing 1219 and it was a corner suite!!! Beautifully view and I could have sat in the terrace all day!! Our cleaning service was ok I just found that there was always sand on our floor. They sheets were like sand paper and the bed was worse!!! My back hurt everyday I woke up!! I could go on and on about why I didn't enjoy my stay but I will just stop here and tell you to go to iberostar Cancun that place was amazing!
