Negatives: On arrival was advised to leave luggage for bellboy to bring to our room. Had to wait for approx 30 minutes before luggage delivered. We were allocated a room on 13th.Floor which had a balcony that you could not sit and see the sea as there is a wall about 4 foot tall around it. Pictures attached. Complained about the room and advised to return to the desk next day around 3pm when would be advised of new room to move to.. Returned to desk next day only to be advised no room available. After blowing my top at the desk was then allocated a room on the 7th Floor which had a partial sea view - better some than none at all. See picture attached.. Positives : Great location in the Hotel Zone. Resort very clean . Entertainment staff very friendly. Excellent service provided by Bar restaurant and housekeeping staff.

Fare price but nothing special

The hotel has a great infrastructure, with 4 pools, a pool bar, and great access to the beach. The restaurants are ok, but the food isn't tasty as it looks. The drinks are good, but the quality of the ingredients are not. The bedroom is good, great bed, big bathroom and a wonderful view. The hotel location is good, nearby Coco Bongo, a great supermarket and a few stores. The pools were really nasty and looks dirty.

Great holiday!

I visited Riu Cancun for 2 weeks on 9/5/17 for my partners 30th Birthday. I emailed the hotel before arriving to ask if this could be noted to make our trip extra special. When we arrived we were put on the 13th floor. The whole of this floor has a wall over the balcony and a window so you cannot see much. Also the room we were in had a narrow door separating us from the room next door. After a couple of days we asked concierge if we could change rooms as the room was very noisy from being able to hear every movement from next door. They advised we would need to wait 2 days (were very rude also and didn't even care to ask why we wanted to)! I emailed the hotel and the manager was very apologetic and arranged for us to move rooms that morning! After this our trip was amazing. I read a lot of mixed reviews before we went and was not sure what to expect. The food was amazing. We loved the steak house! We ate at the buffet a lot as there was so much choice. We did not have one bad meal. The staff are always cleaning and maintaining the building. Even when we came in after a late night at 4am there are staff cleaning floors, windows etc. The staff were really friendly too, we liked to drink at the corner bar, Miseal the barman was our favourite. He always made a fuss and always remembered our drinks and never let our drinks get empty. What I would say is the majority of people in this hotel are young groups or couples, not a lot of families or people with children. Also there was not a lot of entertainment going on in the day. We went to Cancun the same time as my cousin who was staying in the Riu Caribe. We visited here a few times as you can use your all inclusive in that hotel too. The Riu Caribe seemed to have a lot more going on such as lots of pool parties, evening beach parties etc. Even though it was smaller I think if we returned we would go here instead as there was a much nicer aura around this hotel and much more approachable guests staying here. All in all it was a great trip! Thank you Riu!

Can honestly say we have had the best holiday ever and didn't want to come home! Me and my fiancée are planning to get married abroad and fancied Cancun. We have never been before so wanted to come and see what it was like. We choose this hotel because reviews said location was great and that it was for all ages. I am 28 and my partner is 25. We both like a good time and a bit of a party, however we also like taking it easy, relaxing in the quiet and then going for dinner and an early night. I can honestly say this hotel caters to both. You have the quiet pool which has a jacuzzi and this is right next to the beach. This area is lovely and very relaxing. A bit further along you have the pool bar and the entertainment pool. This has music playing and the entertainment team playing games and making everyone laugh. They did a great job and appealed to all ages. We met loads of couples at this hotel ranging from 20-60 and have made some life long friends. One day we would relax and take it easy the next we would have a few drinks and party all night! The fact is you have the option to do whatever you want and it's great! The food was great. I am such a fussy eater I was really worried about the food as I have never done all inclusive before, but it was fantastic! They work so hard to cater to everyone. The buffet was great! People say it's repetitive however each night they had a different theme 'Asian night', 'Caribbean night', etc and there was always something different to try. The best thing though is yes they do have a lot of the same things on top of this which meant you could always get your favourite as well as try different things. So there was always a backup. Yes, Breakfast and lunch had the same sort of things everyday, however there was so much choice it was unreal! They did every sort of breakfast you could think of! Japanese was great too, you felt like you were being wined and dined in a really posh restaurant but it's all included! Anyone who is fussy like me and hates sushi I would urge you to try this as you can get chicken, etc so don't be put off. My partner was dying to try it but to be honest we only went cause the couple we met wanted to go and invited us along. it was lovely! The Italian was lovely too, however they do a buffet with it for your starter which has pastas and pizzas so don't eat too much like we did before your meal!! Haha! The steakhouse was nice but I think we left it a bit late at night and it was a bit cold, so book a table as this gets busy. People complain about the drink being weak but I'm quite a big built guy and I was very drunk on a few occasions!! Ask for brands like Smirnoff or Bacardi it's fine, they don't have an issue. The only thing I would say is best to go to bar and order yourself as on a few occasions when someone brought drink to me I could tell it wasn't Smirnoff. I didn't like their own make vodka to be honest so don't be scared to ask. Staff are very friendly, some more than others so don't throw your money away tipping everyone. Most of the decent ones get to know you which is nice in such a big hotel. Only thing I would say about tipping is I felt it was expected outside the hotel. I didn't have a problem tipping good service but some people expect it and ask for it and I think that's just rude! When in clubs I would tip at start to keep drinks coming and then at end. Clubs are great! Coco Bongos is brilliant! Although we paid to sit up in VIP and was disappointed with view and hardly show! Everyone kept saying don't go downstairs it's too busy. Well we decided to go back on last night with couple we met and they bought the regular tickets. I was a bit unsure but we went for the club opening and had plenty of space. Didn't have a seat but didn't need one as the show was amazing and saw everything! We had a waiter all night and it was a lot cheaper. My partner doesn't really like standing all night and she loved it cause the night just flys in! This is a night for all age groups and is a must do! Do the Thomson bar crawl if you can it's great and we met a couple we became really good friends with. It's a great night. Also need to try the Thai restaurant at Liverpool shopping centre 10 mins on bus! Brilliant! Also heard the Indian right beside that is good. The location of this hotel is just fantastic and is the biggest highlight. Everything is like a 5 min walk away at most! The shopping centre is 10 mins down the road and has some great shops. Anyone wondering how much spending money they should take, we took £800 and we came back with money. We didn't really do any excursions other than Captain Hook, but we did quite a few clubs and went out for dinner a few times. Admission to clubs includes an open bar which was brilliant. This also included paying 1200 pesos (£50 each) tax to leave Mexico. It's quite annoying but mandatory. We will definitely be back at this hotel. Saw a few weddings which were nice but a bit too public for me. Thinking of Mandala Beach which is just 2 minute away and gives guests the option to stay where they want. Honestly so sad to be home but happy that I will be returning again soon. Hope you all found this useful!
