The check in process was too long. The restaurants opens up to late. We were not able to eat until 6:45pm and we were starving because we hadn't eaten since we left cleveland. The room lighting was horrible-too dark. We had maintenance come to change the bulbs to brighten up the room and it didn't .. More>

Difficult to make. Need reservations before you arrive otherwise you have to eat at the same buffet every night. We didn't like that. First time to Punta Cana and let me tell you it was an amazing experience. I went with a group of friends/ boyfriend and we fell in love with the staff and dominican people. They were all so easy going and friendly. Some of our most memorable experiences were from chatting it up with the staff and learning new spanish slang words. One taught us the word "borracio" and we thought it was hilarious (it means very drunk.) Not that their service wasn't already top notch but if you tipped them they would especially bend over backwards for you. Everytime we entered the buffet there was a greeter with hand sanitizer which I thought was a very nice touch. The buffet food was surprisingly good since usually i'm some what dissapointed with them on all inclusive resorts. We also went to the Japanese and Italian restaurant where both our meals were fantastic ! We liked the beach pool because thats where most of the partiers seemed to be and also because it was close to the beach. The buffet that was open late was a really great thing for us since we stayed up very late some nights. I would say the punta cana side of this hotel is definetly the party side of the hotel. If your looking for something a little more family friendly the esmeralda and bavaro are your better bet. The only complaints I have which really arent that huge. Most nights we would hang out in the lobby until it was closed and it got very hot under the roof. Definetly need to invest in some industrial fans for inside the lobby. Also, the bartenders at the beach pool seemed very understaffed some days and although they were still friendly you could tell how stressed out they were. Definetly needed a couple more bartenders scheduled. My favourite bartenders were Enrique and Johny! Our guest services representative was also a huge help. We had friends staying in the bavaro hotel and she helped us make a couple reservations with them and helped them out with trying to book a few things with them. Her name was Iriana. Our group is really looking forward to coming back to grand bahia principe next year!!

We just returned from this resort and I thought that I should share my experiences, with the hope that they may help some one, in the same manner other postings helped us, while in the same time I truly believe in giving praise where praise its due. I'll keep it short and to the point. This being our first vacation in the DR, we set our expectations based on reviews but mainly on word of mouth. As we've been warned that the service is not always prompt and we may have to put up with some attitude, our expectations were a bit low. We couldn't have been more wrong or farther from the truth and hence more pleasantly surprised. Our package included a junior suite upgraded to Royal Golden Club. I have to make a special mention regarding the cleanliness of the entire resort and to put things in perspective, I have to note here that this is a huge resort; actually there are four resorts in one. At any given time there are around five thousand guests and some two thousand staff. This being said, everything is humming like a well oiled machinery. The cleaning staff are constantly waxing the marble floors in the immense lobbies, washing the alleys, dusting every surface (including the ceiling fans), manicure-ing the grass, flowers, bushes and palm trees and that day in and day out. Everybody is happy, greeting you with a big smile. The buffet food was very good, diverse and always fresh. We had four a-la-carte reservations and we enjoyed the most El Pescador. We also liked the tepanaki style Maiko restaurant and the Mexican flavored Santa Fe. The one that disappointed us was Le Gourmet were the soups were cold, the timing of the courses was off, the service just wasn't there and the atmosphere was not conducive to an enjoyable dinner (brick walls with a Halloween style terracotta decorations). The drinks were plenty, not watered down and the fridge in our room was restocked daily with beer. There are a couple of buffets close to the beach which are serving "snacks" throughout the day and one that's even open until the wee hours of the morning. There are three shows every night at different venues, most of them good to excellent. There is a sports bar, a karaoke bar and a disco which opens at midnight, so plenty of entertainment. In the "pueblo" - sort of a central square, there are a few stores selling mostly souvenirs, but there's a jewellery store and a higher end shop. From the wealth of activities offered by our super friendly amd knoledgeable Transat reps JF and Sarah, we chose the Dr Fish Spa cruise, which we'll highly recommend to those seeking the ultimate pampering and relaxation. It is worth every penny. Our only complaint - which is no big deal, but I have to mention itin the spirit of fairness - is that we never received the bottle of rum that was supposed to accompany our welcome letter as part of the Royal Golden membership, despite my triple requests. I am sure that it was some kind of glitch in the system, but some guests could get upset by this oversight. In conclusion, we would grant this resort its full 4.5 stars and would extend and enthusiastic "gracias amigos" and congratulations to all the staff of the resort, but especially to the cleaning crews and to the ground keepers. Keep up the fantastic work!

I travelled to Grand Bahia Principe from May 3-10, Went with a large group for a wedding. Upon arrival to the resort, our hotel room was not ready for check-in, even though we arrived after the 3pm check-in time. We waited for about an hour before we could get into the room. By the time we went to guest services to reserve the a la Carte restaurants, the majority of the week was all booked up. I was on a tight schedule as well due to wedding plans/events, so the a la Cartes were minimal, which was disappointing. The room itself was decent. Enjoyed the balcony, and view overlooking the swim up bar. The lighting in the rooms is very minimal, which made it a bit difficult to get ready, and the mattresses were hard, definitely need upgrading. The maid came every day in a timely manner, and the grounds to the resort were kept immaculate. Waiters, and staff were all so friendly and helpful. Alfredo in the Bavaro lobby was always available if we had any questions. On the wedding day, the trolley men were fast and efficient from getting the wedding party from point A to point B in a timely manner. The food overall was better than expected. There was a huge variety of food for everyone in the buffet, and the fruit especially was the best - pineapple was fresh and delicious! Garden Grill a la carte where the wedding reception took place in the terrace was awesome! Wedding felt very private and no one else around. The staff at the Garden Grill worked efficiently and were super nice. They even came out and partied with the group. Miguel (the waiter) was extremely fun - good hire!! Keep him around! Weather was perfect the whole week except for a few late nights of rain. Make sure to pack everything you can think of, including bandages! I bought a box of crappy bandages for $12! Very expensive on the resort for anything. Tipping goes a long way for much of the staff, they really appreciate it. Overall, resort was beautiful, very large place, a lot of younger people the week I was there, which included a lot of partying at this resort.
