I enjoyed this resort very much, people were friendly, beach was perfect, food was pretty good and plenty of choices. The trolley was interesting, had to take it up to the main lobby for breakfast most mornings or walk. The rooms were nice, bed was a little hard. It was a very relaxing vacation. I would recommend the Sonoa Island Tour! The weather predicted showers every day, but it was 90's and sunny most days, it did rain at night after 10pm.

As I tend to get a flavor of a destination from reading various reviews, thought that an objective look at several key areas might help some people who are considering this as their vacation destination. Before I begin, I will preface by saying overall I would recommend this resort and would stay there again. We stayed from 5/13/15-5/20/15 First, if you have never been to Punta Cana, that part is a no brainer. The beaches, weather, and culture are fabulous.
As for this property. Let's start with the accommodations. Overall the resort was well maintained. My guess is that this property may be one of the older resorts as you can start to see the wear and tear on the buildings. However, like I said the staff does a good job of keeping common areas clean as well as the rooms. Speaking of rooms, we stayed in one of the honeymoon suites. The first room we were in had a musty smell, which seems to be a somewhat common complaint in reviews across many resorts. That said, we generally are not complainers but found that there must have been some previous water issue and what appeared to be mold above the sink area. In addition, the whirlpool tub was not working. After 2 nights we brought it to the attention of the Apple rep, Jose, who immediately discussed it with Jonathan (one of the hotel managers). That day we had an excursion to Saona Island and on our return they took us to a new room so we could first check for acceptability before moving rooms. The new room was much nicer and we had no further issues the next 5 nights. The only other complaint about the rooms is that the beds are not very comfortable, unless you like sleeping on something very firm! On the Apple scale, I would give the rooms between 4 and 5 red apples.
The resort itself is rather large and spread out. My first impression was not favorable. We had stayed at Ocean Blue a couple years prior which was fairly easy to get around and walk back and forth from your room to the beach or restaurant/lobby areas. That said, once we learned a few paths and started to use the shuttles, that issue quickly went away. We were able to walk short distances when we wanted, and used the shuttles at other times. We seldom waited for a shuttle more than a couple minutes. The resort is essentially laid out in mangrove and has a variety of wildlife throughout, most notably the peacocks! It includes a short walking path that you can stroll through which is nice. However, the smell at times is a little undesirable in some parts. There is a hotel pool up by the lobby which was small and typically not used by many. The main pool is up by the beach. It was decent size and has a swim up bar as well as service from the deck side. Candidly we didn't spend too much time at the pool but it was nice and access was never an issue. Again, 4-5 red apples on the Apple scale for the resort layout, transportation, pool and general amenities.
The beach area of this resort is great. Very large with lots of huts and palm trees that provide shade. Of course there is never enough for everyone, that is going to be an issue at any resort, so no complaints there. As with any resort, you will likely need to hit the beach early to reserve a hut if you are looking for a shaded spot for the day. During our stay there was quite a bit of seaweed washing on the beaches, up and down the coast. The resort did a very good job of keeping the beach clean though. I would give the beach a 6 red/gold apple rating.
Food. The food at the resort was quite good, especially when comparing to our experience at Ocean Blue a couple years ago. There is a nice variety of restaurants and we ate at a different one each night. Nice variety and selection kept you from feeling like you were eating the same thing. In addition, having better quality food meant that you felt more comfortable eating other things rather than sticking to the few things you might find appetizing. If you have done all inclusive before, that sometimes can be the case if the food is not very good. One really nice feature at this resort that Apple did was to host a special grill out luncheon buffet just for the Apple guests. This receptions was amazing. Private area on the beach with a buffet spread that had anything and everything, including lobster and top shelf alcohol. I have to say, this was on our last full day and this unique feature alone makes this resort stand out. It was a great event! I give the food 6 red apples.
Service at the resort was very good. At the restaurants we were never kept waiting for drinks and likewise on the beach there was frequently wait staff checking to see if you needed something. The staff was very friendly. A special shout out to a couple waiters we met early that always took good care of us, thanks to Arcenio and Luis. In addition, as previously mentioned the management was very good as well. Jonathan is a great guy and made sure we were taken care of with our room situation and was always quick to chat with you anytime you saw him, even though we know he had much to tend to. Lastly the Apple reps were awesome. Jose did an amazing job and was very helpful. The only real issue that one could have here is that some of the staff are not as proficient with speaking or understanding English. Wasn't really an issue, but it could be for some. Overall, I would give the service for the resort and Apple 6 red apples.
Entertainment at the resort was great. Frankly we didn't have much opportunity to observe or participate in many of the daily beach activities and such but there is a variety of offerings and most people had positive feedback from what we saw and heard. We did get to meet some of the staff who were very nice and always entertaining. The evening entertainment on the other hand was great. They do a nightly show which has a preshow for the kids, followed by the main program. It's a different theme each night and we watched about 4 different shows. They have highly talented singers and dancers and the quality is like something you would see from a Vegas show. They really were that good. We were fortunate enough to catch the last show on our final night which was called Stars. This was primarily a singing variety show, and all we could say is wow! 6 gold apples on the nightly entertainment.
Lastly I will touch on a couple excursions. These are not part of the resort but worth mentioning. Have done a few but we particularly have enjoyed Reef Explorer (a great one if you want to snorkel) and we did Saona Island. Saona is even more beautiful as it is all Caribbean sea and the lunch barbecue was great. Very relaxing and the natural pool was very cool as was the opportunity to find star fish there.
I know this was long and I've probably left out some things but I could go on for hours. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone who reads it and hits on the main things you want to know. I'm sure everyone's experiences at various resorts is different. Based on our experience, this resort seems to be rated appropriately at 5 gold or at worst 5 red apples. For the money, it would be hard to find a better option.

This was my first all inclusive trip, and I'll go back. The facilities are lovely, the beach is just what we wanted...white sand and clear blue water. The staff was friendly and helpful. We felt very safe and pampered! The Suite rooms were large and restful. The only negative was the food, while pretty to look at it was marginal as to taste and quality. However, that seems to be a common theme at a lot of the all inclusive resorts in the area.
