My boyfriend and I visited for a week in April 2016. We were a little sceptical on this resort after reading some of the reviews, but once we arrived it totally blew our expectations! This resort is wonderful. The grounds are beautiful and extremely clean. The beach is stunning, and the pool was really nice also. There was never any problems getting a sun lounger but it could be difficult finding shade at times. Both of us loved the food. I honestly don't understand some of the reviews complaining about the food. There is something for everyone. We loved the omelet and crepe stations in the main buffet for breakfast. The Italian a la carte was especially good (we ate there 4 times). Also, the snack bar by the beach was great for a late night snack and for picky eaters as they sell things like fries and fried chicken (which was to die for!) Drinks were delicious and never watered down. the lobby bar made the best pina coladas I've ever had! The staff was always extremely friendly and accommodating. I feel bad that I can't remember any names but the bartenders at the lobby and pool bars were fantastic, as well as the receptionists at the front desk who called our room every day to see how our vacation was going and if we needed anything. We were in a bungalow close to the pool and beach and I would recommend one in this location as opposed to closer to the main building. It was only a 30 second walk to the beach/pool area and some of the a la cartes and there was a trolley station right by our building that took us to other parts of the resort. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and I definitely enjoyed the jacuzzi. Lastly, the entertainment and nightlife was great. We enjoyed the nightly shows, the entertainment team was extremely talented and energetic. The nightlife was great too, as there was always a good crowd at the lobby bar and the disco. We booked this resort because we wanted to visit a fun resort with a great night life, and this resort definitely had that. Also, if you're looking for a fun night out I would definitely recommend the Coco Bongo excursion! It was by far the best part of our trip. Make sure you pay the extra $30 for VIP tickets so that you will have a seat and bottle service, if not you will have to stand all night and get your own drinks. All in all I would recommend this resort to anyone. Whether you're looking to party or just relax as a couple or with your family, this resort has something for everyone. We are heading to Jamaica for a wedding this year and I am disappointed that I won't be back here in 2017, but we will definitely be heading back in 2018!

Great place

This is a great resort to stay in for the price payed. We got a very reasonable price on our vacation package and The Bavaro Princess resort exceeded our expectations. The rooms were huge and well appointed. We had no issues what so ever in our room.. room 208. All the staff were friendly and very accommodating. We found the restaurants all very good. We ate at all of them except the Chinese one. Even the buffets were really good. I'm a picky eater and still found plenty of tasty options. The beach is hands down the best part of the hotel.... absolutely stunning. And the grounds around the whole hotel are beautiful and lush. It is true that you do need to get around on the trolley depending on where your room is. We personally chose to walk everywhere because of all the natural scenery. Getting from the lobby to the beach is only 10 mins give or take. Some of the complaints that people whine about on this website are just not enough reason not to stay here. Yes some of the food at the buffets could be a little warmer, or the beds could be a little softer, and yes there is a slight sewer smell on one part of the resort when it rains, but all of these things are so minor in the whole grand scheme of things. You make your vacation what you will of it and if little things bother you, then you will be disappointed anywhere. If your looking for a reasonably priced hotel with good food, great beach and amenities, you will not be disappointed staying here. If your looking for perfection, then spend the extra money and stay at the Ritz. Thank you to all the staff at The Bavaro Princess. If we ever return to The Dominican, we will stay here again😊P.S. we did not stay Platinum and still loved it here😉 The Martushev's Plamondon Alberta

Wonderful vacation, some little imperfections

At first we panicked a little after booking the hotel as read some bad reviews. We were supposed to stay in a basic room, those in the main building left to the lobby. We called the hotel and they explained that upgrade to Platinum section at the reception is 55 $US per person per day. Then we called Sunwing and managed to get the same thing for 35 CAD per person per day. We were happy with the upgrade as the section is much closer to the beach; you have your own section on the beach with slightly better service and Platinum reception. It is all very convenient as the Hotel is rather large. There were other perks. This time we had even worse than usual experience with Sunwing, and I include everything – airport in Canada, check in, the flights, and transfer from and to the airport. The transfer is only 20 minutes or less. It makes sense to have a private arrangement from the airport to avoid loss of time and bizarre attempts of entertainment on the bus. Sunwing reps in Punta Cana also for some reason prefer to keep you in the bus while the suitcases are being unloaded. I had to fight to get out arriving to the hotel. It was the same story on the way back. Representative at the hotel was ok, nothing to write home about. The moment we were out of the “luxury” of Sunwing service the vacation became very pleasurable. The hotel grounds are beautiful. Gardeners are working so hard to maintain that huge territory. There are many exotic birds: flamingos, peacocks and others that I do not know how to call. There is a lagoon in the middle the hotel. It was probably beautiful at some point but it looks like they made a mistake building concrete walkways through it cutting off natural water flow. It was cut into small sections and is becoming a swamp. There is some sewagy smell at the end of the lagoon. It is a bit unpleasant. They probably need to hire some eco-consultant and restore the area or they might end up with something very unpleasant in the middle of the grounds. That would be sad as the hotel is lovely. Reception was very friendly and swift. Platinum reception is about 15 minutes’ walk from the main lobby, right in the middle of Platinum section. It is small and cozy; there is free Wi-Fi, few computers, books, board games and a nice snack bar. Our Platinum suit was not far from it so we could even use that Wi-Fi on the terrace. Platinum suits have Jacuzzi and better terrace furniture. They also give you few medium size bottles at the check in, rum etc. The room was comfortable. Bed was very good. We did not like that our entrance door was a bit loose but the maintenance boy fixed everything very professionally the first day. As other people say the resort looks a bit tired but everything is really well maintained. We were happy with the room. BTW it seems that the basic rooms are not that bad, the main issue people had was the distance from the beach and it could be a problem for some. The beach is gorgeous and we were extremely lucky with weather, not a single rainy day. The food was a bit confusing. There are many options and not all of them are good. The best option always was the main restaurant, any time of the day. We went to Chopin, it is interesting but food was so-so. Beach restaurant is a buffet in the morning and during the day but at night becomes a la cart, I think Argentinian or something. It is so-so in the morning, I did not mind as I do not care about breakfast much but my partner forced me to go to the main restaurant in the morning. At lunch it is not bad as they have a lot of grill options usually. Ala cart at night at that place was really blah. We went to sea food a la cart for lobster dinner as it is free for Platinum members, it was really great. We did not try Italian and both Asian a la cart restaurants but we went to other hotels: Dominican food at Tropicana Princess Resort and Tex-Mex and Punta Cana Princess. The first place was really great, amazing service and food. Tex-Mex was not good. They actually have very good sea food restaurant at Punta Cana Princess but it was not offered. It is a great opportunity for Platinum member that we can visit other hotels of the chain for dinner, it was very interesting to compare. Our hotel was the best of three but other ones also have perks and it is great if you plan future trips. We did not have any stomach problems although we did not abstain from fresh fruit and salads. In generally we were very satisfied with food service. The only issue was poor choice of wine. It is really bad. I am super easy going drink-wise; the cheapest Spanish or Portuguese wine is absolutely fine with my food but the things they serve as wine is an abomination. They sell there by bottles some South American merlot that is probably 8$ in Canada. Something like that is usually served at 3 star hotels in Cuba and should not be sold in all-inclusive 5 star resorts in Dominican. The service was amazing. Everyone we dealt with at the hotel was very friendly and hard-working. People seem to be happy and they do not push you for tips. Regardless some imperfections we loved the place and most likely would go again if the price is right.

Platinum service is a must. Could not image staying at this resort and having to stay way in the back of the property if you aren't Platinum. Platinum lounge should have Presidente on tap along with bottled beer. Management should do a better job of planning when to replace roof on Platinum lounge<during the high season is not the best timing. Moving the lounge to an indoor area took away all the charm of the Platinum lounge. It would have been nice to be given a daily list of activities that would be going on ,on 2 days during our week stay no activities that were listed on the activities board took place. Restaurants were ok, reservations were not the easiest to come by. Food ok, until day 5 when I ate the mangoes at breakfast and with in 15 minutes became very ill. Obviously someone did not wash them with filtered water. Spoke to many others that had the same issues with food. Overall had a great time until had the food issues.
