We spent 5 days in Cancun at the paradisus in the royal service area. it was fantastic and Eduardo took such fabulous care of us. he was attentive to our every need and helped us with everything from check in, reservations, Bali chairs, check out, etc. if you go to the Paradisus upgrade to royal service, its worth it and get Eduardo if you can as your butler.

Great family getaway .. if your kids are over 5 and under 12

When we got to the airport the hotel car service greeted us promptly right out front and couldn't have been friendlier. The hotel is about a 15 minute drive from the airport. We got in at midnight with 2 very rambunctious toddlers and everyone was kind and accommodating. At check in we upgraded to family concierge and even though she said they couldn't technically give us family concierge until the next day she still charged us for it for that evening which was a bit frustrating especially since it was already so late at night and we'd have to go back the next day for new bracelets to reflect our stay in family concierge. They also did not have record of us paying in advance so make sure to print out and bring your confirmation with you. The hotel itself is very pretty when you walk in. We were in the main building in a lagoon view room. The lagoon view is basically a view of the main strip in Cancun, not very appealing. I'd opt for ocean front. The room is clean, nice and updated, nothing specia but comfortable. The mini bar is beer and cold sodas. Not impressive for someone who drinks wine and hard liquor. There is a nice little balcony with lounge chairs but again if you're lagoon view it is not very peaceful as you hear the buses at the bus stop right out front as well as the cars and traffic. The breakfast buffet -- there's only one place to eat -- is your typical run of the mill breakfast buffet with every option imaginable and the food was fine. (Make your own omelettes, waffles etc. as well as random lunch/dinner food) .. we met our concierge Alexander who was very nice and helpful. He made our dinner reservations for us and put fun toys and surprises in the room for the kids. Beware, they bring bath supplies for the kids that are all watered down big time, bring your own shampoo etc! The walk to the pool from the main building is easy. The first thing we noticed on the walk to the pool was a LOT of noise. As we approached the kids club section we realized there is an old, unattractive building next door that they are doing construction on. The noise goes on ALL day. The pool is fine for the kids. There's a small section where our 3 & 4 year old could swim and play semi-safely, however, there are built-in loungers that kids were running and jumping on and apparently someone had slipped and cracked their head open the day before we got there. There's also a teeny drop in the pool and if you aren't paying attention you stumble which we all did at least twice but got used to after a few days. There is no bar at this side of the pool so you're at the mercy of a server. The servers seemed a bit overworked and while they did try to come around frequently they were bombarded with orders so it could take a good 10-15 minutes to get a drink. There's only about 5 food items you can order at the pool. Your best bet is to walk over to the Sunset Grill and grab it yourself... after swimming we went to check out the kids club... kids under 5 are considered babies and my 3 & 5 year olds were not happy with the baby play area (I don't blame them, it was meant for infants to 18 months old in my opinion) ... One morning the 5 and up kids club had coloring outside and no kids showed up, I asked if my kids could color and I was told no which was very disappointing. They did have a pool activity one afternoon and they did let me kids interact (not play in the games) but dance and play after the activity. The kids enjoyed it a lot. They def. have a very entertaining staff for the 5 and up crew. If you leave your 4 and under kids in the baby playroom they don't really interact with them very much. My kids were so happy to see us after dinner the one night we left them that we didn't leave them again (meanwhile there was a dance party going on right next door in the 5 and up room that my kids really wanted to participate in) .. I would say the family concierge sounds great but it is def not worth the additional money. In terms of Alexander, he was an extremely nice guy and while he did several nice things for us including a bubble bath for the kids and a bottle of champagne for us one night and a bottle of wine another night, he was rarely seen and didn't do much else for the kids... we asked him to decorate the room for our daughter's 3rd birthday but he thought my husband said it was my birthday so rose petals and romance and a card wishing me a happy birthday (which they got my name off my passport so could clearly see it wasn't my birthday) ... All in all, I think you'd be just fine without doing the family concierge. The free beach toys and backpacks are def. not worth it. I'm guessing if you are a little more aggressive with what you are looking for etc. it might be beneficial but that's def. not our style. as for the restaurants.. The first night we ate at bana, the Japanese restaurant.. we thought the food was above average and we all enjoyed it quite a bit. The ceviche was amazing and their sushi is fresh. The service was great. Note that the wait staff does ask for a tip in a very non-aggressive way but they do expect it. We actually thought all the restaurants we tried were quite good.. we also ate at fuego, also amazing ceviches and the tapas restaurant my husband thought all the meats were great.. as well as the market place brazilian steak house... the hotel food is above average for an all-inclusive. Blue Agave is a decent mexican joint and open all day.. Mole their mexican restaurant was also decent. We did not try the Chinese restaurant. One night after dinner we needed pull ups for our son and the family Concierge did have someone go out to get them for us. We just needed to reimburse them which was totally fine and Super helpful! A little about the $1500 US dollar resort credits. Sounds great in theory but what they do is give you a coupon book and tell you how you can spend the credits. It's basically a few bucks off whatever the full price of something is.. for example $10 off a $100 bottle of champagne... $10 off a $50 Bali bed... and so on. And you can't combine so only 1 coupon per purchase. It's clever marketing but kind of pointless. We used 1 the entire time we were there. We did their "it's not a time share" time share meeting.. while it all sounds spectacular, and it really does.. they ask you for $1800 deposit and then SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS A MONTH. You're weclome. I just saved you two hours of your life you won't get back. The time share folks and the beach photo folks will hound you relentlessly.. the photos while you are sitting at the pool and the time share folks while you are walking through the hotel. All in all, we thought it was a decent vacation. We are interested in checking out their location in Playa Del Carmen next go round since we hear they have more for our little ones to do. Overall, it was a great family vacation with the pros and cons of any great vacation. The bottom line, it's a great price and you get what you pay for.

Loved and enjoyed every bit of our stay! Beach was spectacular, view was awesome! Service was great, loved all the restaurants specially fuego and market grill. The tacos were fresh and one of the best we have had for lunch at blue agave. The bartender Oscar was our favorite, took great care of us! We loved our vacation and experience at Paradisus!

Poor quality of the hotels!

Let me start off with the positive: The beach and pool is beautiful and the pool is kept very clean. There is alot to do and it's fun and relaxing. The ocean is beautiful too. The food is excellent, nice hotel, housekeeping is clean, there is alot to do, good and helpful staff. Now here is why I am writing this review. I had only made a TripAdvisor account because I wanted to write a reveiw. They had put us in a first floor room, no problems, but the thing is we wanted a hotel with an ocean view. So, we stayed in the first floor room one night, and the next day we had arrived in the next room with the ocean view. Whoever was in that room before us left it disgusting... The walls had spit stains on them, ethier from spitting alcohol on the wall, or something. Second, the floor was dirty of footprints. We had entered the room, it had reeked of vomit. Not children vomit, but someone had vomited from being drunk or something, because the smell was that strong. Not only that, but the bathroom had stains on the counter and the light switches had brown liquid stains on them. When we'd asked for them to clean the room, they said the vomit smell was just the "paint" on the walls and it's nothing, but they were going to clean anyway. So, when they finished, the light switch still had the same stain on it, the floors were cleaned, and the vomit smell was still there. It was so unbearable that we asked to switched rooms. We could not get settled, so we were very angry. Third room, was fine the first day. But the thing is, we had no hot water. None. The maintenance guys came and did absolutely nothing to get it working. The hotel was clean, but no hot water! They couldn't get it working, so they had offered for us to shower in a "new room". The shower water was hot in this room. However, the shower was not clean at all. The shower had yellow stains in it which appeared to be urine, so I wore flip flops in the shower. The second day, our family had to take showers in cold water! And not only that, but since the building is so old, and the sewer systems are so slow, some parts of the day we would be able to smell sewer in both of our bathrooms. We had to shut both doors. And they couldn't do anything about that, because the sewer systems are "slow". And it eventually goes away, but if you did leave the door open the whole room would smell! I recommend you stay somewhere else. We are not happy with our stay so far.

Awesome vacation at Paradisus!

My husband and I, along with some friends, stayed at the Paradisus earlier this month. We had a great time and would absolutely return! Everything was excellent, from the food and drink to the property itself. We were most pleased, though, with the staff. Everyone we encountered was great—kind, friendly, helpful, and fun. We want to thank Miguel, our bartender at the pool, for taking great care of us every day. He never let our drinks go empty and made us feel important, even though I’m sure he was waiting on plenty of others at the same time. Thank you, Miguel, you’re the best! Special shout out to Emilio at the swim-up bar for making excellent shots! Balan (swim-up bar) was great, too. Each of our servers at the restaurants were great, as well, especially Roberto at Bana, Atilano at Naos, and Efrain (I hope I spelled that right) at Market Grill. Really, I wish I could remember everyone’s name so I could thank everyone!
