Awesome vacation at Paradisus!

My husband and I, along with some friends, stayed at the Paradisus earlier this month. We had a great time and would absolutely return! Everything was excellent, from the food and drink to the property itself. We were most pleased, though, with the staff. Everyone we encountered was great—kind, friendly, helpful, and fun. We want to thank Miguel, our bartender at the pool, for taking great care of us every day. He never let our drinks go empty and made us feel important, even though I’m sure he was waiting on plenty of others at the same time. Thank you, Miguel, you’re the best! Special shout out to Emilio at the swim-up bar for making excellent shots! Balan (swim-up bar) was great, too. Each of our servers at the restaurants were great, as well, especially Roberto at Bana, Atilano at Naos, and Efrain (I hope I spelled that right) at Market Grill. Really, I wish I could remember everyone’s name so I could thank everyone!

We have stayed at other Melia and Paradisus Resorts many times before, we were there over Super Bowl weekend and thought the resort was beautiful. We paid for the upgrade to Royal Service and we had Daniel as our butler he was awesome he really went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect. Carlos at the pool was equally attentive and really made our stay wonderful. The beach was great waiter service was good as well. The only room for improvement I think would be the food. Breakfast by the pool at the palapa was good but the dinners were just ok. All in all it was a great long weekend.

Great resort! Lovely property, great food, pristinely clean, very friendly and pleasant staff. Would definitely stay there again. Easy to get to from the airport. Each restaurant had very good food. The wine and cocktails were of better quality than most all-inclusives that we have visited.

Staying at Paradisus Cancun in January left us with tons of happy memories. It was the very first true vacation for my family of three ever since I was pregnant with my son 3 years ago, and it was really a relaxing, hassle-free and enjoyable 7 days. Overall, I give it a 5-star. Here are some more details of what I like the most and least. Pros: - Location and layout of the hotel is 5-star! At 15-minutes driving distance from the airport, the hotel is huge compare to some of its neighbors! But it is smartly designed to lay out the five pyramid buildings in one line parallel to the beach with all main restaurants and bars in the middle. Three exits (in building 1, 3, and 5) lead to the pool areas. We stayed in building 2 and didn’t feel far at all to walk to anywhere. The Kids Zone is just a few floors down in building 2 and the kid pool is right out of the exit of building 1, which are bonus for my toddler. - Staff everywhere is generally very friendly and helpful. Some (front desk, a la cart restaurants, room service, bars, concierge) are more pleasant than the others (a few from the buffet), but it is understandable to see exhaustion or numbness shown on faces of those working like a sonic in the busy buffet all day long. - We had a room in building 2. The room is very clean; never saw any bugs or mold anywhere. Furniture and decorations are a bit dated but in good conditions (The first room offered to us in Building 3 was more modern, but we gave it up to avoid noise at night from the bars. Guess they are going in phases to renovate). Room service was amazing. We always got prompt responses: asking for extra towels and saw a huge pile of clean towels when returning in 15 minutes. Care and attention showed in little details: having some wet swimming suits drying on the baloney chairs and noticed the room server re-positioned the chairs for more sun exposure. - Most of the free a la cart restaurants are fantastic. We loved all of them, except Ehso (Asian cuisine – we are Chinese and are naturally more picky in Asian cooking). Each restaurant has a unique setting: Bana sits in a little tropical plantation; Vento has tables right by the side of a fish pond; Mole has a traditional bright color Mexican feel; Fuego, Blue Agave, Market Grill and Ehso all have fantastic pool/ocean views. Each has its own welcome drink of the day, and food is generally delicate and tasty (loved the tapas from Vento, the butterfish filet and sushi from Bana. Mole’s Mexican cuisine was interesting; Fuego’s shrimp risotto and black crusted salmon are appetizing. Blue Agave’s tacos are tasty quick bites. There weren’t many duplicating items on the menus you may get in the buffet, and the waiters/waitresses were all very attentive and caring. Making reservation is no problem at all, and all you need to do is to dial “0” on your room phone. This is way more convenient than lining up in person, a practice in many other all-inclusive resorts. The Naos buffets were acceptable with good varieties, but it was our least favorite compare to the other restaurants. I did love the deserts at the buffets, the juicing station at breakfast where you could customize your drink with fresh fruit/veggie, and the freshly grilled quesadillas from the morning omelet stations (but the lineup was long most of the week). - Breathtaking beach and prompt beverage service. Needless to say more about the fine white sand and electric blue water. I did notice the beach in front of Paradisus is particularly wide with few seaweeds compare to other hotels. The waves are very strong. But it’s like this for the entire vertical side of the hotel zone. Including my 2-yr-old, we had great fun jumping the tides. January may be a slow season or we could be just lucky as we always got palapa and chairs closer to the entrance no matter what time we went out to the beach. The bali beds look comfy but we never felt the need to rent one ($50-80/day). - Kid zone: two spacious rooms adjunct to each other: baby zone(1-5yr) and kid zone (5-10yr) that are equipped with climbing structure, cribs, lots of toys, TV, videogames, table hockey, foosball, billiards table, and etc. They have different class activities and performance (both indoor and outdoor) throughout the day, and the caregivers are attentive and fun. Cons (or more of personal preference, and thus doesn’t affect the 5-star rating): - It’s pretty dimly lit everywhere inside the hotel except the buffet, the gift shops, and the front desk areas. We arrived around 7pm, and had a hard time to locate our rooms in the dark corridor. Some a la cart restaurants (Vento, Bana, and Ehso) are also very dim. For example, the Bana restaurant locates in the middle of tropical plantation. We ate there twice and were always sat at the tables hidden on a side of a little trail into the woods, very unique and private settings. But there was only a tiny candle on each table and definitely hard to see the menu or the food in front of you after 7pm. My toddler also didn't like eating in the dark and kept knocking off his glasses or became fussy very soon. - Indoor scent/odor: 1) the common areas in the main building are heavily scented. Incense sticks are burning everywhere. It wasn’t a big issue for us as we rarely spent time there. But for those who have asthma or allergy but do want to hang out in the common area, this could be problematic. 2) The Kids Zone, although well equipped with toys and staff, the lack of air ventilation was a problem for us. The smell of plastics or chemicals from the floor mats or decoration was obvious. I could feel irritation to my respiratory system after stepping in for more than 2 minutes. As a result, we never left my son to play in there for more than 15 minutes each day. The Family Concierge member-only play area and the gym have the same ventilation problem and I wish there could be windows to those rooms to bring in fresh air. - I was a bit disappointed as there weren’t many exciting seafood items in all restaurants as I have hoped to get in a seaside city. The common ones were octopus, mussels, fish, and scallop. Shrimps or prawns were only regularly available on the a la cart menus. Never saw lobster or crab in any restaurant despite our willingness to pay extra (maybe the adult-only la Palapa restaurant have some?). All the crab dishes were really made of imitation crab meat and it didn’t say that on the menus. - Adult pools are deep (minimum is around 1.6M and quickly goes to 1.8M). Kids pool was not as exciting as some of the other hotels offer. There were only one shallow baby pool and a shallow section of the big pool without any slides or other water play structures. It was OK for my toddler this time. When he is a few years older, it will be for sure a bit boring for him. - Small stage for shows. There was a show every night taking place in the centre stage of the Avenue bar, on the second floor of the middle section in building 3. A pretty small intimate setting surrounded by lounge chairs, corner sofas, and bali beds. Limited by the space, shows were small-scale such as a couple of dancers, acrobatics, or small band performance. The shows were from 8:30-9:30, and was a source of noise to all rooms in the main building for those who rest early. - No cocktail menu: I never found a drink menu anywhere. Again this could be only for me not knowing many cocktail options, but I do wish there could be a menu so I didn’t have to keep asking the server what the interesting drink others were having.

This hotel is so amazing. The staff was so amazing and they made everything so perfect for us. The food was soooo good. I remember eating tacos after a long night of dancing. They made everything so easy and relazing.
