Good value all inclusive hotel with great levels of service

We travelled as two couples staying preferred club in rooms 325 & 337 in September 2018. Overall the hotel is excellent value for money with a good standard of accommodation and excellent food. The quality of service and the attitude of the staff is excellent and is to be commended. I have no hesitation in recommending this resort. I have set out some more detailed comments below. Room 325: The room was a decent size with a large bed, wardrobe, drawers, settee, chair, tables, fridge and tv. The air conditioning was effective and reasonably quiet. The bathroom has a shower over a bath, a toilet, bidet and a single hand basin with a large mirrored area. The ground floor room patio area is very close to a tropical planted area with no sun or view. Overall the room was perfectly adequate but there is no real "wow" factor. The room access is by swipe card which was a bit hit or miss and the card had to be reprogrammed 3 times during our stay. The room was spotlessly clean everyday with plenty of clean towels provided. Dining: We ate breakfast each morning at the Market Café which provided a good selection of food and two omelette/egg cooking stations. Fruit juice and tea or coffee was brought to the table. We took lunch every day at the Bluewater Grill patio with a view over the beach and sea. In the evenings we used the restaurants rather than the Market Café. The standard in the restaurants ranged from good (when they were very busy) to excellent (when not so busy). If we were not able to be seated immediately we were given a pager and waited with a drink in the lobby area for half an hour or so. The house wine offered in the restaurants and the bars was fine. Additional wines are offered from the wine list but I thought that these were expensive and I didn't see anyone taking up this option. The French restaurant seemed to be the least busy and had a more formal atmosphere, no children are allowed in, but the food was excellent and after diner liqueurs were provided. The Asian restaurant had a range of sushi available which was really nice, we didn't book for the hibachi show cooking so cannot comment on that. The Mexican restaurant (through the Market Café) was probably the least busy and again the food was excellent. The Blue water grill has a different menu for lunch and dinner and is seated outside on the patio. The Mediterranean was probably the busiest and my least favourite for no reason that one of hem has to be. There are snacks and breakfast available in the preferred club lounge which has air conditioning but for me the atmosphere was a bit office like. The barefoot grill by the main pool was available for daytime snacks with burgers hot dogs etc. Finally the Coffee Shop in the main lobby provided cakes and sandwiches and is open all day. At the time of our visit the only restaurant that required long trousers for gentlemen was the French restaurant but the website and the brochure seemed to indicate that long trousers were required for all restaurants. Bars: There is a range of bars which as is normal at a all inclusive resort were being well used throughout the day. The pool and beach bars closed at 17:00 with the lobby bar closing at 23:00. I do not know what time the nightclub closed as I never made it that far. The night club doubles up as a sports bar during the day showing various sports including Premier league football matches and American football. However without the air con operating it is a very hot and stuffy space. The bars offer a good selection of drinks including brand name spirits, if ordering say a gin and tonic be sure to ask for a Beefeater Gin & tonic otherwise you will get a local alternative which may or may not be to your liking. For ecology reasons the hotel does not provide straws with drinks so you may want to take some of your own paper straws or a stirrer for your cocktails. Pools: The main pool is spectacular with fountains, Jacuzzi, tiled loungers and a swim up bar. This where a lot of the day time entertainment takes place and so can be noisy, the loungers around the pool are fairly close together with plenty of parasols available. The preferred club pool is much smaller with a small number of loungers and Bali beds available and a bar with waiter service. This pool has a much quieter atmosphere but there is very little breeze and became very hot. If you do wish to use this area you can reserve loungers 24 hours ahead which is a bit confusing given the general no reserving sunbed policy. The Beach: As stated in many reviews the hotel ,along with many others in the Caribbean, is having a problem with Sargassum seaweed washing up on the beach. This is undoubtedly spoiling what is a fantastic beach but the hotel is doing its upmost to clear away the seaweed as best it can, by staff with hand tools and machinery. By the end of our stay the beach was fairly clear but whether it will stay like that remains to be seen.Having said that we used the beach most days as we still preferred it to the pool areas because of the sea breeze. The beach has its own bar which was lively later in the afternoon and waiter service drinks are available. Activities & entertainment: At the beach canoes, paddleboards and Hobie cat sailing is available free of charge. During the day there are various activities which are listed daily with alternative schedules in the event of wet weather. There is also a gym located at the far end of the beach by the watersport centre. In the evenings the lobby bar had some very pleasant low key live music as well as the shows presented in the theatre areas. Staff & service Without a doubt, the friendliness and attitude of all of the staff, without exception and the level of service is the Hotel's greatest attribute. At no time in the two week stay did we have any cause to be critical of staff even when they were under pressure during busy periods. All the staff seemed to be genuinely happy with a smile at all times and this makes for a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Snorkelling: Parallel to the beach, but too far to swim to, is the Mesoamerican barrier reef. This provided excellent snorkelling but does require a boat to get to. The boats are licenced and come with a snorkelling guide, you are required to wear a lifejacket, accordingly the coral reef is in excellent condition. We booked our snorkel trips with Santos (other vendors are available) who has an office at the northern end of the beach by the Bluewater Grill and walks along the beach regularly, look out for his red hat. His daughters Betty & Maggy work with him and I can genuinely recommend Santo's services, he is very friendly, knowledgeable and has excellent English and is not at all pushy. The snorkelling trips cost $25 US per person and last about one and a half hours with an hour and a quarter in the water. The trips with Santos were for just two of us with the final trip just being me. Other boats we saw had 10 or more on board. There are three areas which are easily accessible, south off of Puerto Morelos, east opposite the resort and north. Different boats are required because of the licencing arrangements and so if you have a preference you need to make this clear when booking. I am sure that conditions play a part but each of the areas is slightly different. The reef off of Puerto Morelos provided the clearest and calmest waters with opposite the resort providing sightings of turtles, the northern reef (on the day we visited) was deeper water and slightly rougher seas with different sightings. Wildlife: Lookout for the resident band of Coatimundis which live in the resort grounds they are very cute and have no fear of humans. Sea birds including eagles, frigate birds, pelicans, cormorants and various gulls are easily seen above the beach or perched on the old jetty by the watersport centre. A flock of green parrots flew over on occasions, at the time of our stay we only saw a few butterflies and a few other birds in the grounds. Excursions: Having been to Mexico previously we had already been to some of the major tourist sites and so only left the hotel on a few occasions as follows. Puerto Morelos It is possible to walk to Puerto Morelos either along the beach or along the road. The beach route passes by various hotels and also a nudist beach but because of the seaweed and other debris on part of the beach we gave up on this route. The road route is not very scenic and took about 45 minutes to walk (we got a taxi back). Puerto Morelos has a nice beach, marina, bars and a few shops. A taxi journey is $30 US each way. Crococun At the junction of the main highway and the access road to the Now Sapphire is the Crococun Zoo. It is walkable along a very straight but busy road or you can use a taxi, taxis are available outside the Zoo for the return trip at a cost of $20 US. The guided tour around the Zoo takes just over an hour and you get to hold parrots, a crocodile, a snake and get close to large crocodiles and a herd of deer. You may be lucky and see wild spider monkeys in the trees above. There are also large snakes, lizards, turtles, Mexican hairless dogs and wild cats. The guide was very knowledgeable and that made for a very interesting visit. The entrance fee is about $30 (concessions apply) and so for a family this might make for an expensive couple of hours. Ek Balam & Rio Lagartos We put this private trip for 4 of us together with Santos, Betty & Maggy (see snorkelling above) to visit the lesser known Mayan site at Ek Balam and to see the wild flamingos at Rio Lagartos. This was an all day trip which we thoroughly enjoyed. Santos provided a bus and driver and accompanied us all day. We set off early and arrived at Ek Balam where a local Mayan guide showed us around the Mayan ruins. Ek Balam has only relatively recently been excavated and is not as well known or visited by large tour groups yet. The site is not huge but at the moment you can still climb the steps to the top of the temples with fantastic vistas over the surrounding jungle. We then drove on to Rio Lagartos passing through Mayan towns and villages. At Rio Lagartos 6 of us were taken by a fast boat through the lagoon to see a flock of wild flamingos, we were able to get quite close and take photographs of the birds. We then speeded our way to the salt lagoons, which are spectacularly pink in colour where we saw more flamingos. On the return to Rio Lagartos we saw various birds and got a very close view of a large crocodile. Having left the boat we had a good lunch at an authentic fish restaurant called La Torreja. We then made the journey back to the hotel. It was along day with lots of bus travel but thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile visit, with Santos enhancing the experience by providing local insights during the day. It was also a great pleasure to have Betty and Maggy come along as well. Transfers We booked transfers online with USA transfers from the airport and back in a spacious minibus with lots of luggage space for four which proved to be very efficient and cheaper than using taxis. Let me know if you have any questions and I will try to assist. Happy holidays!

Another fabulous trip to Now

I made my third trip to the Now Sapphire September 7 and it did not disappoint. I went with a friend and we both enjoyed the resort thoroughly. There were a few differences this time but I believe you have to make the best of what the situation presents. First of all, the Ocean has been depositing tons of seaweed in the area but the resort is working tirelessly to remove it. It has effected the swimming at the beach but we spent most of our time at the pools. I had torn a calf muscle a week before arriving so walking was a bit of a chore but the resort is not huge and the folks at the front desk were always willing to send the shuttle to get me or send me back to my room. The staff were amazing and willing to accommodate most requests and choosing preferred again was a no brainer. The preferred gives you access to a separate pool and bar where top shelf booze is served and the drinks are not only delicious but consistent each time. There were a few issues in the room (fridge was warm and the jacuzzi was not working )but the really impressive thing was that when something was pointed out as defective, they were there right aware to make it right. I felt bad for the poor guy outside working on replacing the jacuzzi motor in the pouring rain and wind. They did not give it a second thought. The food in the a la carte restaurants was very good but so was the food in the buffet. We even sampled room service a few times and that too was prompt and courteous. One night at the buffet, I was a little disappointed in the selection and the staff offered to get me the Manhattan steak from the a la carte restaurant as they wanted me to be satisfied. As a repeat guest, my guest and I were truly treated like preferred guests and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This resort is a new favourite for me and I know I will be back. If you go, spend the little bit extra (time of booking) and get preferred. It is worth it for sure.

We stayed here for two weeks! So we met a lot of staff, ate at all the restaurants and participated in a lot during our stay. Overall for the money this is a nice hotel and a good choice. Food - all in all food was good. A lot of food was luke warm from the buffet.. but a good selection. We LOVED the tepenyaki show... also the steak from Cibu was fantastic. Daniel was the best restaurant manager as far as we were concerned, he was actively doing something and checking tables were ok. He remembered us and was always friendly. Luis from the buffet was always smiling and friendly. As was Sarahii the hostess. The deserts were not good ever...maybe that's just our English palate though. Didnt rate the Mexican restaurant, all very bland and not very spicy. This should be the highlighted restaurant of choice to visit , unfortunately this isnt the case. CARMEN from the coco cafe was lovely!!!! So friendly and happy! She was miles Better than any of the others in the coco cafe. I hope she did well in her race at Xplor. Hotel - was extremely clean. Pool was good. No issues with sun beds. Entertainment - the day time entertainment was great... the evening shows were hit and miss.. we liked 'the perfect couple' and the fire show. The pianist was also great from the lobby bar. The other evening shows were a bit rubbish. THE ENTERTAINMENT TEAM MADE OUR HOLIDAY. All were friendly, happy , lovely people. Rosy was so kind and I will miss her! Alejandro and Isaac were also superstars. Beach was nice, but not really swimable due to seaweed and murky water. Spa is ridiculously expensive. .just walk down the beach 100 meters to pay half the price! Concierge staff were good! It is not Worth being a preferred guest... anyone can use the adults only pool. We would not return as preferred guests again. We wish they played more spanish music, it is mostly catered towards American style music.. kind of a shame since we are staying in mexico. All in all we would return. We also hired a car for a couple of days, was simple, easy and far cheAper than paying for trips!

If we could rate this hotel with 100 stars, we would!

Just arrived back to the UK after the most amazing week at the Now Sapphire. We can’t find one fault with this resort at all. The food was perfect with a great variety and huge amount of choice throughout the day and during the evening. The staff were completely fantastic and in our opponion, they are what makes this hotel so great. We would like to give a special mention to the waiter in the buffet restaurant, ‘Jesus’. Everyday he made our mornings when we went for breakfast with his perfect attitude and the amazing service he gave us. He genuinely seemed pleased to see us whenever we arrived for breakfast. He remembered our names, favourite drinks and favourite seats and went out of his way to ensure our glasses were topped up and that he gave us the best experience he possibly could. Our room & the hotel was absolutely spotless! We would also like to mention the hard workers dealing with the seaweed on the beach. After seeing a few negative comments about this, we wanted to address it because it is obviously a natural thing and not the hotels fault at all, however the staff went above and beyond to clear this seaweed all day everyday in order for their guests to have a pleasurable experience and to ensure we were able to use the beach. The bar service around the resort was fantastic. We used the pool bar, beach bar and lobby bar every day. We would like to give a special thank you to ‘Iroshi’ and ‘Jamie’ who looked after us everyday - remembering our favourite drinks and giving us a warm welcome whenever they saw us. Iroshi made us some amazing cocktails and as soon as our glasses were empty he had another drink already waiting for us with new recipes for us to try. Whenever we saw Jamie, he was genuinely happy to see us and went above and beyond to give us the best service and to make us feel so welcome. They really made our holiday special and they are a credit to the hotel. The Entertainment team are also beyond fantastic. As soon as they start in the morning right until they finish in the evening, the whole team are so full of energy and are great with all the guests. Even if the weather isn’t the best, they have a fantastic program in place to raise the spirits of the guests. We would like to give a special mention and huge thank you to ‘Louigi’, who we made great friends with. He had us laughing all day and night and always made sure we were okay. The whole team wanted all the guests to feel as involved as possible and have a wide variety of activities for people to take part in which we’re appropriate for families, couples and groups of friends. All of the staff had great reccomendations to make our holiday great and they genuinely wanted us to have a great time. We can’t wait to come back in January and see you all again! Thank you for the most perfect holiday guys, you really made it great for us and we can’t rate this hotel enough! Absolutely fantastic. Ben and Michelle x

The staff are what makes this hotel. The service can not be faulted. As expected there are a couple of negatives but the positives overruled them. The staff really can’t do enough for you. They’re so friendly, attentive and they get to know you during your stay. Food was actually really good for a resort. We tried every restaurant and the buffet and we never had a bad meal. The entertainment team are one of the best I’ve observed at a resort. Downsides, “VIP services” are only there to up sell... however we did pay for some of their services for the experiences. They are really overpriced tho. Preferred club is pointless.. literally half of the resort have it.. 7 our of 14 accommodation blocks have it. Only thing I would say would be pay the extra for the ocean view room. Apart from that you might as well save your money. These are minor things and didn’t put a dampener on our stay at all. Over all we would go back purely because of the staff.
