When we arrived, the people were very kind and happy to serve you for any need. We were told we would have to wait three hours to get our room. I kindly accepted that information. Three hours passed and our room was not ready. They apologized and upgraded our room free of charge if we waited another 45 minutes. I kindly accepted the offer. Four hours have passed of just and we are just anxious to get our room as we were tired from the flight and would like a little nap before the fun. We got our room number and keys and we went on our way. Only problem was that when we opened the door there was someone already using that room. Luckily they were not in there at the moment. At this point i was very irritated and had to walk all the way back to tell them of their mistake. They got defensive and didnt even apologize for the mistake and just gave us a different room. Poor check in service for my experience. Other than that, it was a great time. The workers everywhere were the nicest people you can meet and seem like they love to give you a perfect stay. The beach water was not the cleanest due to many many sea plants. Jellyfish almost everyday. Overall it was a good vacation. Would recommend to friends and family.

Some issues not disclosed at booking

We love the dreams. We were married at the former dreams of cancun and have visited dreams riviera previously. The food and service is always pretty good but this time we had some issues. There were many weddings which wasn't as much of an issue as the noise. It was so loud and the music kept our daughter awake (and super drunk guests). Also the restaurant, Oceana was under construction. We felt like the hotel should have been responsible for letting their guests know before booking of this, or at least offering some kind of compensation or coupon for other services. By the 4th day, they had drained the children's pool that is next to it. So many days from sun up to sun down we were hearing hammering, nails, and then we lost a pool my daughter loved. Also they had one bar set up in alongside the pool to compensate for the missing pool bar which was nice. As always however we are Dreams lovers and we feel like these are some of the best resorts as far as service in Mexico.

We were given a room with two beds upon check in and didn't realize that this was so incorrect until trying to sleep in the same tiny bed on the first night. We got a king room for the remaining nights, and it was fantastic. Everyone is very friendly and helpful at the hotel. We very much enjoyed the food and the restaurants but also realized that service in restaurants would be very slooooooow. Not a bad thing on vacation, but different from "normal life." Our return transfer to the airport at first took us to the wrong terminal, but at least we were aware that Terminal 4 was brand new and to be aware that we might accidentally be dropped off at the wrong terminal. He then took us to the correct terminal. We would recommend this vacation to friends and would come back. Drink waiters at the pool were excellent, and it was nice that staff remembered us and things we said. Thank you!

Disappointed with rude beach concierge and horrible pconstruction noise

Dec 03 2017
Our staff was removed from the beach by the preferred concierge and he gave away our front row umbrella to a another guest for a tip. We had been there since 6:30am and had gone for breakfast. No one apologized - neither him, nor his manager, nor her manager. I have never experienced this before!!! They ruined our vacation. From that day one of us had to stay at the beach all the time while the other one was having breakfast or lunch. Also, did I mention the unbearable construction noise everywhere - at the preferred beach, at the seaside restaurant and even in the room with the door and window closed we were unable to hear each other.

Our family of four stayed 5 nights and every day and night was fantastic for all of us. Drinks flowed, food was everywhere, well made and accessible always, with a daily freshly made poolside smorgasbord of something new (paella, smoked turkey legs & bbq pulled turkey sandwiches for thanksgiving, ceviche). There was plenty of space for everyone to enjoy the pools and the beach without bumping shoulders or running into each other. The staff was welcoming and fun. Our 7 & 9 yr old boys weren’t that into the kids programming and there was some confusion about contacting us to pick them up at one point. But our kids enjoyed th other amenities at the resort regardless. The in room amenities were great - plunge pool, jacuzzi in and outdoor, espresso maker, clean and updated bathroom and shower. There really isn’t much to complain about. It was the most relaxing vacation we’ve taken with our kids and we would do it again and convince friends or family to come with us.

Shooting on the Beach Will Cause Me To NEVER Return
ERIK F.
Nov 22 2017
On Thursday, November 17th at 10am, the local drug cartel entered our beach and started shooting a semiautomatic weapon on our beach. There were about 200-300 people out on the property that morning running for their lives. We are LUCKY to be alive. While this hotel is beautiful, we are not safe in Mexico and we will never be returning and I will let every person I come into contact with know they are not safe. Your Amstar sales reps are TERRIBLE. They lie when selling you a excursion and the excursions by Cancun Adventures are a RIPOFF. If the front of the hotel looks like a fortress, the drug cartels should not be able to open fire on the beaches. We felt safe and we should not have ever felt safe. Shame on anyone who sells to people looking for the beach dream. Because we THINK we are safe and since they have nothing on them to protect us, we are NOT. I will never book another apple vacation again to Mexico. You should make people aware of how UNSAFE Mexico is. Warn them. Because they may not return alive.

I was skeptical after reading the reviews of this resort. After going and experiencing it, my wife and I are very disappointed at all of the negative comments that we read. We have absolutely no complaints whatsoever about anything we did so or experienced at this resort. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone and would hope that the bad reviews will not deter anybody from going to this destination.

we paid for a adult only hotel and we stayed in a family hotel. We asked to have our room changed, but was told we would have to pay $150/night to make this change. There was to many staff workers stopping you every time we walked out of room trying to get you to schedule a tour of some type. We were here to celebrate my husband's birthday and relax, not to be bothered and harassed.

Loved This Place, Only a Few Niggles!
Funtel, Glasgow, United Kingdom
Sat Feb 17 22:42:23 EST 2018
Stayed here from 8/7/17 until 22/7/17 just my 2 kids (8 & 7) and I. This was our first time in Mexico so prior to booking this hotel I done a lot of research on where to stay. With this hotel I was attracted to having a Plunge Pool on our terrace and the intimacy of the resort. Some of the others looked huge and I just felt would be too big for us, Dreams Riveria looked perfect. POSITIVES Before even arriving I contacted Karla Ortiz via Facebook with some enquiries and she was lovely and prompt at getting back to me. She even managed to secure me my preferred room choice and it was lovely. Thank you Karla. The resort is beautiful, grounds immaculate, they are always working away keeping it clean and in a good state of repair. My room was great, kids loved the plunge pool. Couple of niggles but will save this for the negatives. Pools are lovely, we stayed mainly round the activity pool, there was a good vibe here. Plenty of activities and on some days there would be live music/DJ which was great, loved it. I've read someone else's review re making the infinity pool adults only...PLEASE DON'T...this is advertised as a Family Resort and I've paid the same money as any adult for my kids to be there, they should be allowed to use the same facilities including the swim up bar which isn't purely alcohol, there are soft drinks and this was a nice novelty for them and with being on my own with them then I wouldn't have been able to use it either! There are plenty of resorts that are purely for adults only so I suggest this is where people should look to go if they don't like having kids around. I loved the beach the wee bar there with the swings was lovely too. I know people have slated the sea weed, I didn't think it was that bad and really this beyond the hotels control. I can only assume they do their best and it works as I've definitely seen worse. Food was excellent. We had breakfast at the World Cafe, there was an amazing selection there, something for everyone. Only one day we ordered breakfast for room service as we were out early for a trip and this was lovely too. Lunch we pretty much used the Barefoot Grill by the pool or the BBQ/Paella cooked poolside which was fab. Dinner we tried all restaurants except the French one as this is adults only. I liked them all , my favourite was the Seaside Grill for nice steaks and location - open air by the pool and overlooking the sea, bliss! Overall the service at the restaurants was good although i did notice they slowed up with pouring the wine if they were wanting rid of you lol! My kids enjoyed the Italian and we all loved the Teppanyaki display table definitely worth the early queue to book the table. Kids Club - my kids used it briefly a couple of times to go on the climbing wall and it looked nice, staff were nice and they enjoyed it Saved the best for last, the Entertainment Team....shout out to Andy, Josef, Christian (hope your on the mend) Lesley & Alex ......they were all amazing brilliant with the kids, they loved them. Allowed my son to join the team so funny! Honestly they worked hard all day and were amazing, made the holiday special. There was evening entertainment, good shows, singers some great some not so but always something on which was good. NEGATIVES Okay before I say what I'm about to say I am not a snob but I am writing this review based on the hotel being classed a 5* so there are certain things that can really make something a proper 5* experience and here are some areas for improvement that would make it just that... On arrival they don't seem to be overly prepared for what guests would be arriving as we were first seated at the main desk in the lobby and once they realised we were Preferred Club we were then escorted to the Preferred Club Lounge which ran smoothly enough. This is the first area for improvement, we were the only ones arriving at that time so it wouldn't have been difficult to be prepared. As I said earlier I loved our room apart from the AC....it kept on breaking, almost everyday which was getting annoying. However, credit to the hotel they would send someone round very quickly to fix it. We also had problems with our door entry which ended up with maintenance man having to break in through the patio doors to fix it (needed a whole new component). He said he would fix the patio but seems he forgot and I had to get them back to do this however room was insecure for sometime before it as fixed and we were on the ground floor so not ideal. On the couple of occasions we used the porter service for bags it wasn't as good as it could have been. On arrival our bags took ages to arrive, I had to phone reception to chase them up. When checked out and leaving our bags didn't arrive at the lobby and I had to chase this up also. Could be doing with being a bit slicker here. The Lobby - this is where reception, booking tours, lost & found, night time entertainment is. As much as its lovely with its water features etc It is ROASTING, aptly nicknamed the sweat box...got too uncomfortable to sit and watch the entertainment. It's open air but there is no breeze, it would be better if it could be closed over with AC. Entertainment as much as it was good I think there would be benefit in having family discos some evenings would have enhanced our experience at the hotel. Now my biggest disappointment was the Preferred Club. The staff within, (with the exception of one lady who unfortunately i didn't get her name but she worked on the reception desk and was lovely), were appalling. They were non welcoming, very dismissive and rude. On the few occasions I attended here for drinks there was no service which really surprised me considering there was service everywhere else in the hotel and with it being an area where you pay an extra premium for I would have expected service. Very disappointing. The only good thing about this area was the AC, a welcome break for the Lobby. Kids liked having a shot on the PC's too. The evening snacks were nice too. As much as I’ve listed some negatives this did not spoil our holiday in anyway. We truly loved this place and overall I would recommend it to anyone. I would have given it 5* if it wasn’t for the Preferred Club staff. Thanks again to the entertainment team they truly were great.

Family Resort heavy on the family.

We just returned from Dreams Riviera Cancun and it was a nice Family resort. Just my husband and I no kids (late 40's / early 50's). We have only been to adults only resorts prior and thought we would try for the price difference. We will not be going to a family resort without any kids again. Knowing you can't please everyone all of the time so I will list our pro's and con's and you can decide. We did have a nice time, just not what we have been used to. Pro's: Life Guards were on it all day everyday (can't say enough about how observant and aware they were!) Appeared to be plenty of kids activities around and in the pools. Offered top shelf at most of the bars, Rooms were nice and cleaned every day, mini fridge was restocked daily, they cleaned the seaweed off the beach several times a day to help keep it clean. They did not allow peddling on the grounds so no worries about being hassled to buy cheap stuff. Con's: Very noisy with kids at 6am, either yelling off the balcony to hear their echo or running around the floor above us.(as well as the lady who did not take her heels off for about 10 minutes after coming back to the room above us at 3:30am, sounded like a heard of horses). Wifi was very spotty. Food was fair, not a big selection at the buffet. Twice we wanted to sit at the Sushi Bar and could not due to a leaky air conditioning unit. Both bathrooms by the pools and beach locations smell like sewage! Our bed was not comfortable to us and the pillow selection left a bit to be desired. We had a room with a plunge pool, not worth the extra $ it was very cold! Many of the wait staff did not seem happy or friendly. Trust me there were a few that were very happy and attentive but many seemed put off. I did not see a lot of tipping so I am not sure if that was the reason or something else. There was not a lot of bar area in the evening for the amount of people in the area, since that is were the entertainment is. And speaking of the entertainment; they need to upgrade a bit, listening to a duo one night not exactly what I consider entertainment at an all inclusive resort.

Beautiful awesome resort....rude customer service

First of all, this resort would've gotten 5 stars if i was only reviewing the rooms, food, beach, pool, etc. But unfortunately the moment we walked in to check-in tarnished my opinion right away. The front desk staff, especially Erik, was very rude and not helpful at all, He didn't welcome me and when I talked to him about the trip being a 20th anniversary trip, and asked if there was an ocean view room for us...he quickly dismissed me and said, "actually we are overbooked this week and I can't help you at all...I don't even know how we're going to accommodate all of our reservations and you're lucky to get a room at all" WHAT??? We then had to wait until AFTER 3 before our room was ready (we had been there since 7 am as we took an overnight flight...so you can imagine how exhausted we were) I had to go up to the front desk many times to check if our room was ready and it wasn't until 3:45pm that I actually raised my voice and told them that it was inconsiderate of them that the room wasn't ready. A lady quickly scrambled and found out that my two rooms had been ready but nobody had buzzed my pager to let me know. so.....we got into our rooms and I must say, they were very nice and spacious with a nice view of the pool/beach/garden mix. I loved them! The resort grounds are nicely kept and beautiful....as well as the beach and pool side. The food was very good and we went to each restaurant...i think my favorite was Himitsu with amazing food and service. We also enjoyed the decor of the Mexican (food was pretty good) and the Portofino was great too! The entertainment in the lobby in the evenings was nice....good singers, etc. But, we've been to other resorts that have more 'shows'...Michael Jackson, etc. I think this resort needs more of this. Also, music at the pool was minimum....there needs to be music going at all times! fun music....not spa music....it makes it more of a fun experience. We LOVED the entertainment group at the pool and beach. I cannot say enough about them!! We did water aerobics, blackjack, guessing games, fun games at the pool, and our favorite: BEACH VOLLEYBALL!!! They are Rafael, Carlos, Daniel, and Carlos. They are the hardest working group at the resort and they deserve a raise!!!! They entertained all ages from 1 year olds to 90 year olds!!! LOVE THEM! All in all, we had a great family trip with many many great memories. It was one of the best. If the front desk was more helpful and accommodating to us, this would have been perfect!

Beautiful place on the beach. No wristbands to worry about and the people are so friendly. The people are too nice here 10/10 would recommend and exceeds expectations. There is also good food here, restaurants and room service. The room service is quick also; I received food within 30min each time.

We want to go back!!!
