Overall experience excellent. The only issue I had at the hotel was poor Lighting in some restaurants for dinner, but the food was excellent. Nightly Entertainment was fun and enjoyable. Would recommend and stay here again. .. More>

Hi Laurel, Before I begin I just want to say what a pleasure it was working with you. My concerns, which are many, have to do with what I expected from the resort. Hi Laurel, Before I begin I just want to say what a pleasure it was working with you. My concerns, which are many, have to do with what I expected from the resort. Perhaps my expectations were unrealistic but I don't think unreasonable. The very best part of the trip was your foresight to get us Frontier Perks. Unfortunately we didn't know about or receive food/drink vouchers until we were boarding the plane by which time we had already purchased food. We checked into Secrets around 12:30, given our room number and told our room would be ready at 3PM. We had lunch and walked past our room around 1:30. The maid was working on it and said she would be done shortly. We went back to the Preferred checkin desk to finish the checkin process. It was 4PM before we got into our room and it took another 25 minutes to get our luggage. So much for a nap before cocktails. The room was either frigid or unbearably humid. The thermostat never did not work properly despite a maintenance worker's best efforts. There was no hot water in the shower Saturday. Despite 4 days of effort we never did get internet service to work properly in the room. One of the main reasons we picked this resort was because it had Internet service.  I got vacation permission based on being available to provide emergency service via the internet. Fortunately it was not needed. If the resort is striving for an upscale appearance around dinner time it apparently doesn't apply to their only formal indoor/outdoor Veranda lobby bar. It was a little unsavory after getting dressed for dinner, going to the bar for pre-dinner cocktails and having greasy, topless men and towel-wrapped women wandering through the bar and sitting in the bar chairs. One or two chairs on the balconies would be nice for reading. The balcony furniture is very stylish but not very functional. The first two days our rooms were not cleaned until 5:30PM! After complaining they were done in the mornings from then on. The resort showed outdoor movies on one of the exterior building walls (big screen!), served popcorn and drinks and it was most enjoyable until a rock concert started next door with 20 minutes left in James Bond's movie Skyfall. We never did hear the ending. The food at the Portofino Restaurant was inedible. I had risotto that was under-cooked, dry and crunchy. (I sent it back and declined an alternate). Perhaps my biggest complaint has to do with wine. I must have missed it because I was expecting (within reason) all-inclusive meals. I could get expensive liquor but not a glass of a good wine to go with dinner. Our only choice was to purchase a full bottle that was four to six time retail price. I could finish dinner with $100 of fine Cognac but could not get a decent $20 glass of wine. The El Patio Restaurant "featured" wine was a $38 bottle of YellowTail Chardonnay ($7.00 at Mariano's in Chicago) To be fair... The resort facilities and staff were first class - friendly almost to a fault but very enjoyable. The Ratatouille Restaurant was so good we ate there three times including an invite from the manager and chef to eat a 5 course specially cooked meal at the chef's table in the kitchen! It was one of the five best meals I have ever had. Truly the high-point of the week. The weather was perfect and there was a continuous cool breeze off the ocean. Despite our problems, individual staff worked hard to make things right and they are to be commended for that. In my opinion (FWIW), the Secrets Silversands needs a fresh set of eyes to makes their resort world class. But who can argue with 96% occupancy! I doubt that we would ever do another vacation such as this. Perhaps our expectations were a little more than they should have been. We never recovered from the  frustrations of the first three days.

This a fantastic resort, this was our second time going there. the only thing I was not very happy about was they are doing more weddings now and they seem to be taking over the resort and being loud and rude sometimes, this for me takes away the relaxing part of my vacation. but overall I love this place and how they pamper you, the rose pedals on your bed when you arrive is nice to see. I recommend this resort if you can deal with the weddings.

Wonderful time!!!! The resort was so clean and beautiful, the staff(especially Francisco our beverage server and Vanessa our World Cafe hostess) was very cordial and friendly. Wonderful time!!!! The resort was so clean and beautiful, the staff(especially Francisco our beverage server and Vanessa our World Cafe hostess) was very cordial and friendly. The food top-notch with beautiful presentations at dinner. The trip was booked for my daughter(early graduation gift) and myself. While we had a very relaxing, enjoyable time, it would have been nice to see more families with adult children or girls only getaways there rather than just couples. It was not advertised as a "couples" only resort but we were certainly in the minority.

My wife & I stayed at the Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun from April 6th thru April 13th 2013. It was one of the best vacations we have ever had! The staff are all so very friendly & they all seem sincerely interested in serving you what ever you may need. The food at all the restaurants was outstanding & the presentation was top notch. We ate at the Mexican, Italian & Sea Side restaurants & each time commented on how good the food was & how the presentation of all the food looked so nice from the appetizers, to the salad to the main course. You can tell the chiefs really know what they are doing & are very proud of how they put their meals together when it is served to you. Highly recommend at the Mexican restaurant getting the Chocolate Souffle for desert. It was one of the best tasting deserts I have ever had. It was so good that on two nights when we ate at other restaurants, we then went their afterwards just to order the Chocolate Souffle for desert. If you’re looking for a place to relax & have people take care of any & all of your needs then the Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun is the place to go. The resort is well taken care of & you can tell everyone there is proud of their resort & the work they do. We would highly recommend it to all our friends! Steve & Jamie From WI

The restaurants were great and the servers all over the resort were soo pleasant. We were totally annoyed with the limited amount of AC in the buildings and restaurants very upsetting, along with no lights in the hallway coming from the spa to the lobby. I agree with everything positive everyone else has already said about this amazing place. I have stayed at many other all-inclusives before. I must say my expectations were not high. Well, I was blown away. I have never been to a resort that was so clean, so friendly, and had great food. The brunch was awesome! The room was always clean. The staff is outstanding. We especially loved the entertainment staff; Jorge, Dani, Estefanie, Rango....You made are trip a lot more fun. They teach dance lessons every day by the pool, so you can learn a little salsa while there. Cesar from Amstar is also very wonderful. Not only can he plan a nice day for you at a reasonable price, he give excellent advice on personal problems. <3 Juan, at brunch was awesome. Always so very attentive in refilling our glasses or coffee. I think brunch was amazing. There were so many wonderful choices. All of our dinner were good. You can order as much as you like, as long as you eat it. Once night they even had vendors come to sell their things by the pool which was wonderful. OH, and the little coffee shop- Awesome! I miss having coffee from there every morning or after dinner. I cannot remember the girl's names, but they were great. They always knew what we wanted. There really aren't any negatives. The resort and area are safe, friendly, fun, yummy, and wonderful. The only little pang in the side was that it was a tiny bit warm at night in the restaurants. Just a tiny bit. Not sweating or anything, but would have liked it a little bit cooler. Also, checking out wasn't as pleasant as checking in. Go figure. They weren't as smiley. Could have been the fact that I was leaving.

Just returned from a seven day stay at Silversands, (May 11-18th). My wife and I have stayed at this resort three times previously over the past two years. We feel that this stay also resulted in us rating the service in all categories as "excellent". No waiting lines for seating at any of the restaurants at any time of the day based on us traveling to the resort at this time of year. We are a retired couple in our early 60's, but have been traveling to Cancun and staying at hotel locations in the commercial zone since the 70's and exclusively to the Riviera Maya "all inclusive-adults only" for the past 6-7 years resulting in stays to the Secrets Capri and the Silversands. We now feel that the Silversands is rated at "par" to the Capri as far as overall customer service and financial value to their customers. During check-in, we made a casual remark that we would be soon celebrating our 40th anniversary. Our receptionist apparently made a mental note, and without any expectation, we received well arranged rose petals, a banner on our door, and a bottle of champagne in our room two days later. The service and staff were just fantastic and actually fun to engage with. During our stay, we felt we were considered not only as a "guest", but as part of their overall employee "family". I do need to single out two staff members only because we saw them daily based on our restaurant choices: Marco, a server at the Seaside Grille, and Vanessa, a restaurant hostess, both of whom made our dining experiences just a joy on a regular basis. Marco knew which drinks we would like and remembered our most familiar requests without us having to volunteer the information over the entire week. My wife said that Vanessa came running out of the restaurant after her breakfast on our last visit day to make sure she could personally say "good bye" and hoped for our return. Room was great on 4th floor overlooking separate pool area, with partial view of the ocean. The maid service was excellent. We have recommended this resort to our family members, friends, and neighbors, as well as anyone asking for our input regarding our history of traveling the area. We have never had a negative response, but so often have heard "so glad you told us about this place". We will also be returning.

we stayed in a swim up suite in bldg. 1, very quiet and basically your own pool most people use the larger party pool. rest. were all good esp. the hibatchi. the beach is rocky in front of hotel but walk north 1/2 mile is good but walk south (which most don't do because of seaweed for about a 100 yards) and it becomes fantastic about 100yd. wide and beautiful. we thought the swim up suite was definitely worth the upcharge

My husband and I, along with one other couple stayed at Secrets Silversands the second week of May. In one word: fabulous. We have stayed at other couples and family resorts at the same level (Palace resorts, Sandals, etc) but first time at a Secrets. WILL NOT be the last. I won?t offer a detailed account as that just repeats what many others have already posted about this resort, but I will comment on what we liked the most: Preferred Club: definitely worth the extra money. Made our check-in and check-out very, very quick (like minutes). We literally had to do nothing but have a drink and accept the room cards. After arriving we were greeted with a great glass of champagne and immediately taken to the Preferred Club downstairs. More champagne. Itzel, at the Preferred Club desk, had everything ready for us and within 5 minutes we were in our rooms. The Club is a great place to chill out, have a light breakfast or sandwich in the afternoon and try out the premium liquor at anytime. Josh & Innocent, the Preferred Club bar staff, were fantastic young men always waiting with a smile and whatever we wanted to drink. Rooms: absolutely no complaints. Top quality bed and bedding and a great selection of toiletries, even toothpaste. Hubby loved the Playboy channel. Juanita and Ivan were the housekeeping staff responsible for our second-level room which had a breathtaking view of the whole resort onto the ocean. Both were excellent and we had our room made up by 2PM everyday. A $5 tip each day ensured excellent service. When one only makes the minimum wage of $6/day, $5 goes a long way. Same can be said of the dollar tips that we gave to certain other staff as well. Big thanks to the Housekeeping Manager Pedro Velasquez who sent us a bottle of champagne on our last day ? your staff are phenomenal and their service outstanding. Restaurants: No reservations needed at any of them. All were very good, the best we have ever had at an all inclusive resort anywhere. The chicken wings are excellent at the Oceanside outdoor grill by the main pool at lunch. Burgers are pretty good too. Japanese had some fantastic sushi. French was great. My favourite was the Mexican ? excellent Mole chicken. I really did not have a meal that I didn?t enjoy. Service is impeccable at every restaurant we went to. Buffet was also great food ? pretty much the same menu each day, especially for breakfast, but all very good. My only complaint of the entire resort is the lighting at some of the restaurants at night. Way too low, especially for those of us with aging eyes and bi-focals. If the waiter has to bring a little pen light so you can read the menu, the lighting is too low. Never had to wait more than 4-5 minutes to be seated, except for one night but that was only b/c everyone seemed to want Italian that night. They took our names and we went for another drink. No biggie.. Entertainment: Something for everyone. The shows at night were pretty good, at least the ones we went to. The entertainment staff are around all day, but not intrusive or too loud. Besides with 9 pools at this place, there is always a quiet area to go if you need. Pool games were geared more towards adults and actually fun to watch. Music at the main pool is fine, but perhaps a little too much club music ? those of us with teens are trying to get away from the club/rap beat. There is really no reason for Rihanna to follow us to Mexico. One afternoon we had great rock for about 3 hours ? Aerosmith, Stones, Bon Jovi, etc. The music that is pumped out throughout the resort (outside of the pool area) is great ? what I call Buddha Bar music ? jazzy new age alternative. Loved it. Beach: Erosion has unfortunately taken its toll in the location as huge sand filled bags have been placed to slow it down. Not a problem though. Lovely well-maintained beach. Lifeguard always there. Watching the huge pelicans dive for fish was a hoot. Spa: didn't have any treatments and quite frankly they are exhorbitant in price. My cousin had a mani-pedi and was happy. Did visit the spa though for their outdoor pool. Nothing fantastic really. Communications: no language barrier experienced with anyone here. Very friendly accommodating staff. One point worth mentioning is the free calls to anywhere in North America. Very helpful for those of us with fee-heavy hand-helds (predominant throughout Canada) ? free calls and texts. The resort chain app is also quite useful for an updated list of the day?s activities, the outdoor movie title, which restaurants were open for evening, etc. Overall: Best service we have ever experienced, hands down. Overall a great medium-sized resort. No language barrier at all. I enjoyed giving a tip to the staff and it is not expected but greatly and sincerely appreciated. Would go back? In a second, mainly for ambiance, service and food. Highly recommend. There are many other resorts at this price level who could learn from how this place is run: service, service, service. Final mention goes to Omar who handled our luggage when arriving and leaving. He has a knack for names ? whenever we saw him throughout the week, always greeted us both by name and with a big smile. Do not hesitate ? go. We are now looking forward to trying out other Secrets resorts. If they match this place, we?ll never go anywhere else for a couples? vacation.
