A superb beachfront Resort with a flair for decor and ambiance is located next to the Riu Palace, on a seemingly endless white beach. The name Bambu (bamboo), is a theme which creates a magical and exotic experience. The Morrocan style architecture, with mosaic domes, archways, and white columns with fanned palm trees, adds glamor and distinction, as a fine quality Resort. A magnificent pool with swim up bar shaded by another dome, faces the Caribbean.The lobby is sunshine yellow, with woodwork crafted and carved, and great hanging baskets of ferns and flowers. We stayed at this resort from May 9 - May 12 and it was horrible. The only good thing about this one is the beach. Food was always the same and very poor quality. Our hotel room was outstanding at Riu Bambu. The buffet and Steakhouse were wonderful. We do not recommend the Mexican restaurant here. The Riu campus is huge and we were able to get our one hour power walk in every day. We would definitely recommend this resort and especially like that we can .. More>

This was listed as a 5 apple accommidation but it should be a 4 or lower. This is maybe out 12-13 time to an all inclusive between Riveria Maya and Punta Cana. The first night at the RIU BAMBU resort there was a fire on the main stage of the resort where they have their shows. We were at the sports bar about 1am when an employee told us to "get out get out." So the bartender and i went outside of the bar to the main stage an saw smoke. He then went back .. More>

Found this resort to be a disappointment! We paid for Deluxe Rms and were way out back the last set of rooms. On our last night we stayed up killing spiders. You need to wait in line to make dinner reservations and really who wants to get up at 630a on vacation. By 7am you WILL NOT get a pool chair .. More>

Beach and location are great. Entertainment and activities for the kids are were not good. They took the soccer and volleyballs away from he kids at 5PM so no games after that. My husband and I did a square deal through apple vacations and thought how could you possibly go wrong with a 5star resort...you can and we now know this for future trips. This was our honeymoon but felt more like we were at a spring break hotel. This is a club hotel not a resort and about 30 minutes from the airport. We did not find the staff to be very friendly or helpful, several times we asked them something and they wouldn't answer or just turn around and walk away. I understand there is a language barrier but they do understand some english. We arrived at 5:00 p.m. on a Saturday. We were starving after having traveled most of the day. There was no food available at that time (both buffets shut down) other than some questionable burgers and hot dogs in a refridgerator that you had to heat up in a microwave (which the microwave barely worked) and some fruit that smelled and tasted spoiled. This resort, hotel rather, wasn't really what we were expecting. You had to most generally get everything yourself. There was no bar/drink service at the beach which is unusual so you would have to walk back to the pool area to get a drink. The food was very bland. We even saw a few roaches in the buffet area. Our room was okay. Our maid was very nice and did have our room made up every day by 9 or 10 a.m. There was really no sleeping in at this place, you could only make dinner reservations for the restaurants between 8-10 in the morning. If you are not looking to be pampered and waited on this would be the place for you. If you are looking for that type of resort definitely do not stay here. This was a hotel not a resort so it was very disappointing to us. The pool never seemed to be cleaned very well, there was alot of stuff floating around in it. There were alot of overflowing garbage cans everywhere and dirty ashtrays stacked up. This hotel had a lot of kids there were allowed by staff to be in the pool bar area (splashing around) eventhough there was an entire kid swimming area available. The disco was closed so there was no place to go safely for some entertainment. The shows were tacky and non-entertaining. However, the beach at this hotel was beautiful. It was quite a walk to our room from the pool/dining and beach. We did make the best of this place and still had a great honeymoon/vacation. We certainly did not let the accomodations ruin our time but it was frustrating at times. I personally would never stay here again and it makes me question the other RIU resorts as we heard complaints from other people we ran into about the palace resorts. We will definitely stay in the dominican again but we will be staying at at 6star/apple resort.

We stayed in Bambu for 10 nights in Deluxe room and enjoyed every minute of our vacations. This was our 5th visit to Punta Cana, but the first to RIU Bambu (several years ago we stayed in Palace Macao). We're placed into newly built 4000 block on the side of the hotel grounds neighbouring Palace Macao. Very quiet location, the closest to the beach and lobby among all other deluxe room blocks (block 5000 is nearby, but two others are at the rear side of the hotel). As far as these blocks were built in autumn 2012, rooms are new, comfortable and very clean in snow white and dark blue colors. Rooms have almost everything necessary for comfort stay: comfortable real kingsize bed, huge safe deposit box (where it's possible to accomodate not only all your valuables and electronics, but a small elephant :-)), iron and iron board, liqour dispenser (rum, vodka, gin), minibar (soda, beer, pepsi, 7up, etc, refilled regularly in couple of days), plenty of bottled water; ceiling fan, very effective aircon, mosquito nets on all the windows and free wi-fi (connection was quite good). I did not like only one thing: openspace bathroom concept of the room - there is no separate bathroom in its sence, but bathroom area. As for me, it's strange design, however, very popular trend now :-( There is only universal shower gel in the bathroom, so bring your own shampoo and conditioner if you're very sensitive to such things. Also bring a lot of sunscreen (here it is expensive as a hell) and mozzy repellent (first days we did not use it and were bitten). Also there is no coffee maker or kettle in the room, so if you're tea lover bring your own kit. Hotel grounds are very green, nice, with a lot of vegetation, very well kept. Main reastaurant - Colonial - is nice, buffet is excellent, with a lot of choice (seafood for dinners was excellent, as well as sweets and fruits). We did not visited any a la carts cause we like flexibility of buffet. The beach is a real jewel of Bambu - one of the best in Punta Cana (at least on the stretch from Palladium Resort to Hard Rock Hotel) and much better than in other RIU hotels (except of Palace Macao that has beach of the same quality) - very very wide, with plenty of space and sunbeds, covered with palm trees and beautifull white sand - simple awesome and breathtaking. You may find sunchairs any time without any problem, but if you prefer your favourite specific palm tree, it's better to reserve it by 8 or 9 in the morning :-). There is no beach bar, to get drinks it's necessary to go to the pool bar. There are 3 pools. They are not big and always were overcrowded. But this did not bother us at all, cause we're beach persons. Animation team was very nice, friendly and worked hard from early morning till late evening (and other hotel staff as well). Guests were from various countries and continets, of different ages, not so many children at this season. In general, we spent fantastic time and we're vary sad when our vacations ended so quickly. And finally, for me it was very sad to read some very very negative recent reviews about this nice hotel. I can't imagine how it's possible to name this wonderful place with cosy tropical atmosphere under blue sky and bright sun, near caressing turquoise ocean, covered with lush green with nice, smiling people, working hard from early morning till late evening, serving you, cleaning for you, manicuring gardens for you as pink prison or dirty motel with rude staff! What's a shame!
