We returned from our trip to Secrets the Vine yesterday. I believe this is our 4th trip to that area of Mexico. This is our first resort that has been at a "vertical" place rather than spread out horizontally. It has 28 floors and we were in the preferred club on the 26th floor. The room was clean and plenty spacious. There are no full bottles of liquor in the rooms but mini bottles. Honestly that is just as well because most of our bottles have gone unused at other resorts. The elevators are surprisingly quick which is good because with it being so high --using the stairs is not really an option. The butler for our floor, Mario, was absolutely amazing, professional, and so helpful. I have a hard time sleeping and we called the main number asking for a fan (to help with white noise). They said they didn't have any so we tried Mario. I don't know where he got it from but we had a fan in our room in 30 minutes. He made the quality of my sleep for the week just like at home! We have gone to many all inclusive and honestly the food here was amongst the best we have had. The Tiramisu at the Italian restaurant is SOOOO good. The breakfast buffet at the market had a decent selection of lots of different things. The line for the "custom" omelets/eggs was always about 5 people deep but I like the scrambled on the buffet. The drinks were very good and the bartenders were pleasant at all the bars. I had a vanilla latte made for me in the lobby area that was very tasty. We went to the sports bar a couple of times to watch the Olympics. The Vine bar had some decent DJ music that was fun to dance to late at night. The bar service was quick even though there were a lot of people there. We spent the majority of the time at the beach and an hour or so each day at the preferred club pool. We enjoyed the pool floats that are only available at that pool. On the beach we became very familiar with Fernando, our beach waiter. He worked hard for us and made sure we had plenty of cold water and drinks and we ate off the "beach menu" 3 days. It is a limited menu but the chicken quesadillas were awesome as was the philly cheesesteak. There were always open seats at the beach and pool. One problem is differentiating between open chairs and chairs where people just left and left the towels behind. I guess resort etiquette, especially here, is if there are no personal belongings and only towels, they are "open". It would be helpful if all guests would bring their towels with them to the drop off when they left, it would certainly make it much clearer what is open and what is not. At least at the beach, I didn't find much of the "towel game". Pretty much if a seat was saved with a towel, there was a person in it within a short while. I research extensively the resorts before we travel. I have been looking at Secrets the Vine for a long time. One thing I failed to notice was that this place is a convention center also. 2 days before we left a very large group of 20-somethings checked in. I am only 43 and consider myself pretty darn fun!! but the entire vibe at the resort changed. Our butler did tell us that the resort was pretty much at capacity for our entire stay, but it didn't seem like it until the really big groups checked in for their business getaway. I like to have drinks and fun. I don't mind people getting loud and rowdy. But it seemed like this group showed up and forgot how to be respectful of everyone outside of themselves. I felt a bit like it was "spring break" even though it was not. Again-not trying to be a fun hater, but the loudness in the restaurants was annoying when they were there at night. My personal space by my beach lounger was encroached by them physically. I mean go ahead and sit down or congregate in your large groups somewhere but literally not with your behind hitting the back of my chair. When comparing to other resorts we have been to, it was more of a singles crowd than a couples crowd. Just so everyone knows ahead of time what they are booking. One other thing to note, if the maid comes and notices a "valuable" that you have sitting out and not locked in the safe, they apparently call security who comes and puts it in the safe? This really confused me but one day we had to have a gentleman come two times to unlock our safe because our code was disabled. Nothing was missing and it was remedied very quickly. BUT-still odd. Apparently you have to tell the butler to convey to the housekeepers that anything left sitting out is okay with you and no need to call security? The service is really good and we do tip. I have heard people complaining that their drinks were slow and I do not know if the tipping has anything to do with that or not? Ours were always quick and with a smile. They work hard and are deserving of the tips. A solid and beautiful resort. The views from the expansive balcony are amazing. We were on the side opposite of the Hard Rock. I feel like there are many resorts to try so probably wouldn't return to ANY resort a second time--but would definitely recommend to someone looking to stay in the the "hotel zone" of Cancun.

Stayed at the resort February 12 to 18th 2018. Great place and excellent service. People that went out of their way to make my vacation superb were waiters Fausto, Cesar, Marcelo at the Market Cafe and the entertainment team Valeria, Raymondo. Felipe, Bernie and Alonzo were all great. It is a nice place for the vacation but it was the staff that made the difference. Will definitely return again next year.. Esteban, Minneapolis .

Ehhhhhh! Items stolen :( BE AWARE!!!!

There was some good and some bad. The bad: 1. $100 was stolen from my husbands wallet. We went to the spa and they had him set up his pass code. Told him to put his room number in. He counted his money before we came he had $504, then when he was getting dressed he only had $404. When we told management security came and went through our entire room and belongings instead of asking the employee who took the money. Why did they have to go through our room if the money was taken from the spa? Secondly management did absolutely nothing about it. Watch your stuff and don’t trust anyone! 2. The pushy pushy sales people. Do not even talk to them. I had to get flat out rude for it to stop. 3. Food is small portions, long waits, and the liquor is definitely not the real thing. 4. The entertainment was very awkward most of the time. The good: 1. Clean, the staff is usually very nice. 2. Great rooms and a wonderful ocean view. Overall: I will never be back. I never want to stay in a place where management just flat out let’s their employees steal and does NOTHING to even try to help the situation. I hope the guy at the spa spends the money well. You KNOW who you are. We even gave management his name.

Stayed for 5 days in early February 2018. WHAT WAS GREAT Watching Super Bowl on the beach. We arrived on Super Bowl afternoon, and opted to snatch a seat in front of a huge monitor right on the beach. It was a calm night, no wind, with waves gently breaking 20 feet away - amazing. Went barefoot getting buffet style dinner - fresh guacamole, shrimps, ribs, chips, beer. Our team lost, but it didn’t matter much as we liked being on the beach at night so much. Room - the hotel was not full. ROH (Run of The House) room got us to 18th floor, Hard Rock side - not too shabby! Excellent views from the balcony. It’s a smallest room in the hotel, but it felt large and more then sufficient to us. Service - very attentive and quick, everywhere including the pools and the beach. I have a damaged foot and need to keep it in icy water every night for 15 min. Our room had only a shower, so I asked a concierge for help. Stepped out of the room for half an hour, came back - a bucket for my foot was already there, and an ice bucket was filled with ice. The ice has been replenished automatically every night of our stay. I never had to ask - amazing. Breakfast - a huge buffet. Will work for every taste. They fill custom orders too. Try the ‘green juice’ - amazing. Staying in a cabana by the pools. We’ve never had a chance to do this before. It turned out to be a great benefit - no sunblock was needed. Lunch - ‘catch of the day’ at Sea Salt, with ocean view. Paella by the pool - it was a special lunch treat one day, prepared in a huge wok. Impromptu custom tequila tasting by Sergio at Dragons restaurant. Sergio speaks English like an American, no accent, so we stroked a conversation with him and learnt his life story. He’s made the evening a ton of fun, and brought us 8 different shots of tequila to try and to learn what we like. THANK YOU SERGIO!!! Coffee and pastries at a first floor coffee bar - always excellent, is open 24 hours a day. Drinks - be specific about what you want, e.g. what brand of tequila or work a to use, ask to make your drink strong and use less sugar, and they will. You can also ask for additional shots of undiluted alcohol on the side if you want - it’s all included. WHAT WAS AVERAGE Food. Stick to what Mexico does best - grilled meat, fish, vegetables, and you won’t be disappointed. When they try to imitate Italian, Chinese or Japanese food it is a disaster. We preferred Blue Water grill. Deserts at restaurants. They go for a great presentation, but the taste is pretty sad. Instead of ordering a desert at a restaurant go to the first floor coffee shop and enjoy people watching while having excellent cappuccino and sweets. Entertainment (overall) We are self-sufficient and never get bored, but still, from what we’ve seen, the entertainment was pathetic. Staff dancing by the pools and nobody cares enough to watch. A silly magician. A ‘crooner’ who can copy Frank Sinatra - o boy. A mariachi band, with singers overpowered by their trombones and only wanting tips. The 2 good things (in addition to Super Bowl) were 1) daily pool aerobics (too easy and too short to count as an exercise though), 2) Pool Acrobatic show one night. Either take a kindle full of books to read on your vacation, or come with friends and entertain each other. Corporate events. One day the close the beach and pools for 2 corporate events at 3pm. We are here for only 5 days, so we felt a little bit cheated. All and all though, we felt like we had a 5 star vacation, hence the rating.

Brilliant hotel on the beach , always get a bed We had a deluxe sea view on the 19th floor room 1921 overlooking the Hard Rock Hotel , no noise problem, and overlooking pools and preferred club area The even number rooms face the Sandos Hotel and suffer noise from the aircon units of both hotels Great food at all the restaurants with no reservations , if you get to one that is full they take your name and contact you electronically , never more than 30 min wait so you can go for a pre dinner drink The people who make this hotel are the staff from chefs , cleaners , bar staff and in particular Itzel who serves drinks on the beach, she was always cheerful and forever asking you if you want a drink Within easy reach of Cancun 175 pesos by taxi , just go to the boys on the main door who will order a reliable taxi for you Downside Entertainment in bars so so No draught beer A lot of conferences so at times can be overwhelming at times with crowds of people on "jollies" on the beach and in the bars at night ( is it a conference centre or a holiday hotel) Can someone please explain the following Why do people find it necessary to stand in the pools for hours on end with drinks in their hands Scream at each other Use the words ,omg, totally awesome and amazing after every word usually screamed at the highest decibel that the human ear can cope with Would defo return ,but out of any American holiday period
