More 'Green' than 'Amber'!

We have just returned from a most enjoyable stay at the Now Amber and this hotel has much to commend itself, with just few minor negative issues. Before we book a holiday we tend to obtain as much information about a hotel and resort as possible and also read both the positive and negative reviews on this site. However, when a hotel gets 90% Excellent/Very Good reviews then one expects to enjoy the experience. Firstly, I would recommend all guests to read the hotel information book in the room upon arrival, as most of the negatives viewed on this sight could have been easily solved by a simple phone call(eg: Dress Code, Pillows, Housekeeping(you can actually book a time slot for this), etc.). Starting with the minor negative issues, the service in the themed restaurants could be a bit 'hit and miss,' especially if going later rather than sooner in the evening. The hotel does not offer a reservation system and whilst this is attractive I am pretty certain having such a system would improve the service and maybe having a maitre-d on hand as well. We soon learned that going earlier provided a very good level of service. Do not leave anything on the outside handle of your room door, it may not be cleaned. They do not have a Do not disturb/Make up my room sign, only a red sign that says nothing. If you are concerned about iguanas please bear in mind they have at least four residents which were probably here long before the hotel. One of which fell out of a palm tree and landed with a big thud six feet behind our sun beds! On a previous occasion one landed in the pool; but to be honest they are not a problem. The sandy beach is pleasant, but it can be a little rocky in the sea, which as it is the Pacific Ocean can also be rough making swimming unsafe at times. The buffet breakfast is adequate, but not spectacular as per some Caribbean resorts. There are so many good things to say so I'll briefly list below. Unlimited good quality beach/pool towels, which can be changed at will and does not have a card system. No resort bracelets. Plenty of poolside sunbeds, many of which have armrests and are made from metal rather than plastic. There are also a good number of parasols and also the palm trees provide shade. The beach sunbeds are of the more traditional plastic type and again there are parasols here(permanent traditional construction). Good, varied evening shows, but only on a weekly loop. The Three Tenors are excellent. Evening musical entertainment in the lobby and on most days at the pool in the lunchtime/early afternoon period. Very good lobby bar service and also at the pool; thank you very much Manuel and Rafael!! Excellent Wi-fi virtually everywhere. Rooms and hotel spotlessly clean. All staff are very friendly and whilst tips are not expected are gratefully received. First Class friendly Entertainment Team. Daily News Sheet as to what is going on, usually provided with the turndown service. The main buffet food was very good, but not a huge variation, though of course this can be obtained at the themed restaurants. Not a big range for vegetarians or vegans. The themed restaurants all provided excellent quality meals, with the emphasis on quality and not quantity, Our favourites were the fish dishes, steaks and the fabulous Mexican Liquor Coffee, which is a work of art. Housekeeping was excellent. Good size room, with king size bed and whirlpool bath. Top shelf/premium spirits are readily available as is unlimited 'champagne'. The best place to be in the evening is the lobby bar, with a great view over the ocean and where you can meet many friendly like minded guests. These were mainly from Canada and the USA, but there were a few Brits as well. If you have the chance to meet Tennessee Jack and his lovely wife, Ann(e) then you are in for a real experience. They line dance, provide a little musical entertainment and also got us involved in a fun dice game-thanks TJ and Ann(e) for helping make our holiday so wonderful. We travelled with Tui and there are just a few comments that need to be made. The three excursions for the price of two was very welcome and whilst still costing quite a bit we felt the Rhythms of the Night, Yelapa Hidden Beaches Discovery and the Whale Watch were outstanding(the latter being definitely one for the bucket list, amazing!!!) If booking on line Tui really need to show more clearly that there is a Departure Tax of around ÂŁ60pp, which has to be paid in cash at the airport, in a choice of currencies.Having been to Mexico before we knew about this, but a few would not have known until the Welcome Meeting. It needs to be shown clearly during the on line booking procedure. Our resort rep, Stephen, was excellent and provided a great deal of information.Lastly, regarding booking, I think Tui are very churlish regarding one aspect of seating on the plane. Reserved seats can be booked in advance at a cost, but if not doing this then seats are allocated when checking in on line. These seats can be changed at no cost, unless you want to sit NEXT to someone else in your own party, then the charge is ÂŁ15.50 per seat. Rip off is too kind a phrase for this!!! Finally, we enjoyed are wonderful holiday to Puerto Vallarta and this excellent hotel, with the friendliest people you are ever likely to meet and first class facilities and service. if you do nothing else here then make sure you take the trip on the bus(about 55p pp return)to the famous boardwalk, The Malecon; absolutely buzzing and amazing!!!

Great family getaway!

We had a great time vacationing at Now Amber resort. It was very family friendly, which made it easy for a family with two kids under 10. Everyone who worked there was extremely friendly and customer-centric. There were a couple of people who really stood out to us: Rolando, our butler, was awesome! He was very friendly and extremely helpful with getting us and friends we travelled with set up for dinner reservations. Look for him out by the pool and he is sure to become your best resource while staying at Now Amber. Areli was also extremely personable and helpful with making our dinner experience at Bordeaux really special. The resort overall is beautiful and well kept. The adventurer’s club for the kids was organized with a variety of activities to give them options and keep them busy. The longer hours was a huge plus since it allowed us to get some adult only dinners in. The pools were perfect - the kids loved the slide and the swim up bar was great to have as well. The food was pretty good - there were a lot of different options, which was really appreciated. The rooms were decent. While the jacuzzi tubs looked a little dirty, this didn’t really bother us since we typically use the shower over the bath tub. The room had a bit of an odor to it - kind of a stale, musty odor. This was probably the only negative I would be able to give. Since we didn’t spend a lot of time in the room and slept with the balcony doors open (screen closed) to enjoy the ocean breeze, it helped to mute the odor a bit. There were just a couple of nights where we couldn’t do this because there was loud music from Secrets that went on until about midnight. Overall, we really enjoyed our vacation and would consider returning to Now Amber in the future.

AMAZING!

As a very busy working family with three young children we wanted an all-inclusive resort that was clean, had friendly staff and great food. The Now Amber Puerto Vallarta met and exceeded our expectations. The resort is one of the newer ones in PV so the buildings and rooms are modern and clean and well maintained. The layout of the actual resort is great. all rooms face the ocean and the pools and restaurants are centrally located...no hiking 20 minutes to get to the pool, etc. The pools were warm and clean, there were plenty of lounge chairs and clean towels. We didnt spend much time at the beach...tide was a little too rough for our kids, but there are lounge chairs and umbrellas down there. The staff was always friendly, and happy to help. Edgar (bar tender in the Preferred Club) always had a smile, was chatty and happy to get you a drink or open the door for you...our kids were giving him high fives by the second day:) The kids club if huge with a million of things for the kids to do...and all the staff was friendly, and interactive. Parents received pagers and you can sign in/out throughout the day. The food was great...the buffet is typical but the restaurants are fantastic! no reservations required and the food is incredible. the Italian and Asian were my favorite...I would have loved some traditional Mexican food though overall, great place and will return next February!

Experience Did Not Match Reviews

My caveat for this review is that last year we stayed at Beaches in Ocho Rios. Totally different experience here, but perhaps not uncommon for Puerto Vallarta? My biggest issue with this resort was the kid's camp. That's why we chose this resort, as it was advertised to be the most 'kid friendly' resort in Puerto Vallarta. They advertise very fun activities for the kids to do. however, their time doing these activities are very limited - rock climbing. only were able to do this twice during the 7 days we were there. we also were informed our kids needed tennis shoes, which was not shown on website OR told to us when we called prior asking what we needed. The mean 'camp counselor' wasn't going to let our kids do it after we took a taxi to a local store, bought all three kids cheap water shoes (felt by us to be very appropriate for rock climbing). It took my mother in law bringing out 'mama bear' before the counselor relented. The bungee trampoline didn't work, so our kids didn't get to do that at all. The kids camp was also difficult to work with dropping off. if you were a few minutes late in dropping the kids off, and the group had already gone to the buffet for supper, they wouldn't let your kids join the group. evidently carrying the 'check in' notebook with them, like other resorts, is too complicated. We had to sit the next table over while my kids ate by themselves, wondering why they couldn't eat with their friends. The pools were a fairly big hit with my kids. The kids camp wouldn't take them swimming (which again, is something Beaches did), so my wife & spent a lot of time at pool monitoring the kids, but was fun to watch them have fun. The kids pool is very wisely split into a large wading pool for small kids and 3-4 feet depth pool that has a very small, but fun, water slide. again, the kids could have spent all day in the pool. The servers, wait staff, and bartenders were very nice to our kids, very good service for them. The kids were a fan of their available food options, but a lot of the restaurants were adult only. The food quality was quite good. however, they have a fairly strict dress code, so that numerous restaurants were off limits if you didn't have dress pants, shoes (again, something we were not aware of prior to arriving). I wore my jeans and tennis shoes that I traveled to the airport with, but hardly seemed more appropriate than nice khaki shorts & collared shirt (which I brought to potentially golf in). I had a lot of trouble getting service for drinks in the lobby, around the pool. We weren't aware its a custom at Mexico all inclusive restaurants to tip $1 with every drink (at the Beaches last year, they would refuse tips). Not saying one way is right or wrong, but we didn't have the cash to tip every time and it clearly affected our quality of service. My favorite part of this resort was that if you walked a short ways outside the gate, there were like 5 different places to get massages - my wife & i had a couples massage for $40 total. A lot of events were held at the Secrets side, which isn't hard to get to, but sometimes its difficult to figure out where something is happening. don't bother with the phone app, as that wasn't even close to accurate. Our favorite activity for the family was a pirate ship day tour, that was really fun and would recommend.
