This was our first stay at Now Amber. This place is spectacular! From the minute you walk in to the resort to the time you leave. You are spoiled rotten. The staff is incredible and on top of their game. Omar, the guy who brought us our drinks from Manatees the swim up bar was excellent. Always checking up on you to make sure everything was good. The only thing we didn’t like was the staff try to get you to join the preferred club. Which if you go to PV a lot might be worth it. There is always something to do. Make sure you go the the Mexican Fiesta on Friday. Amazing food and great show. Karina was also great. She gives you a small tour of the resort and is great to talk to. You don’t need to speak Spanish as all the staff know English. We will definitely be going back for our next vacation but will be staying on the Secrets side (Adults only).

The staff and location make this place everything it is

My husband and I have traveled to a couple all-inclusive resorts on the eastern side of Mexico. This was our first trip west and at a Now (or their parent company) resort. There was a lot of great things about the resort and a couple areas of improvement. First the good. Now Amber is beautiful. It is perfectly situated to give guests beautiful views and breezes. They have tons of free activities and it is totally safe there. I lost my phone (twice) and both times found it untouched in the location I left it. It is also very safe in PV and a great idea to travel to the stores and malls surrounding the resort. You'll find much better deals and the locals are just as friendly as the resort staff but nothing tops the resort staff. They are just genuinely nice people. They always make you feel welcomed and cherished. One example, is Norma, she saw me struggling to keep my son busy and ask the front desk questions I needed too. She stepped in and so sweetly entertained my son for me. That night she was the star in the show and came over to say hello to him. He felt so special, and so did I, that she remembered him and wanted to say hello. As far as improvements: don't have adult only dinning at a kid friendly resort, especially when they can go next door and have an adults only dinner. We brought our son because we want to be with him not so he can be somewhere else. Get rid of that awful sales pitch for membership. I've never had such a horrible experience. They say it takes 90 min but at 3 hours we walked out. They are so rude! Really awful and it leaves you angry at the resort on the second day. Finally, pools should stay open later than 8:30

I loved it

I stayed at Now Amber Resort with my friends for a weekend and we had the most amazing holiday ever! The service, amenities, food but most of all the staf members! Jaime (pool and beach service team) was so charming and kind, always making our stay better! the sunset views and night shows were georgous!

The poor choices of few can outweigh the good deeds of many

Let me start by saying that, the Now Amber is a beautiful, high end property with excellent staff, great food and many positives that will make your stay great. Unfortunately, we encountered one to two issues that affected our stay and thus the rating we're providing. Most likely you will not have these issues and you should expect a 5 star experience. Now I'll go into the extended review of the property. Feel free to skip ahead to the various sections: background, arrival/check in, room, preferred service, hotel amenities and grounds, beach/ocean, restaurants and food quality, snack bar, shows, casino, wedding, staff shoutout and issues. BACKGROUND We were in Puerto Vallarta for a 7 day trip to attend a wedding at Now Amber. We only booked a 5-day stay through the wedding coordinator and booked 2 extra nights at a condo in Zona Romantica. Our 5 days at Now Amber were the end of the trip May 15-21, 2019. Sunwing YYZ-PVR. ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN We arrived at the Now Amber from our condo before checkin time. It was hot! And we stepped out to a nice welcome flute of champagne and greetings from the concierge staff. Luckily, our room was ready and we're soon headed up, but only after we were made a timeshare/travel club pitch. Unfortunately for them, since we'd already been around for 2 days and pitched many a times already, we declined. It was all respectful though and they were not too pushy (as most others are) to get you to listen. ROOM The room was great - after we had a few things fixed. Humberto showed us in and I quickly began my inspection (as always) of the accommodation. The inspection revealed a stuck sliding screen patio door, a missing security lock/latch chain, and the safe was not bolted down to the cabinet in the closet (i.e., you could just pick the whole safe up and walk). Luckily my new friend Humberto phoned the maintenance man (whose name I never got - but he was excellent). He quickly bolted down the safe, attached a new chain lock to the doorframe, and removed a screw that was making the sliding screen door stick - and showed us how to work the balcony jacuzzi. Otherwise the room had nice finishes, good working AC, ceiling fan, lots of lighting, his/her sinks, stand in shower, soaker tub, jacuzzi on the balcony and a really comfortable bed. Slippers and robe. PREFERRED SERVICE I was surprised to find out that we were in the "preferred section" and would have a butler. I never booked this portion of the trip as my lady did - usually I book everything. Well surprise, we got HUMBERTO! Damn, this man is good. Humberto can basically tell what you want or need before you even say it. He ensured all of our needs were taken care of from reservations, drinks, ironing my outfit for the wedding (there was only a steamer in the room), and providing advice and tips where sought. When Humberto is off, we then get YESINIA who is equally as talented at ensuring your stay will be the best. Yesinia continually checked in on us to make sure we were enjoying our stay and also provided a nice decoration of the room and a bottle of Mexican champagne. Thank you both. HOTEL AMENITIES AND GROUNDS The hotel has all the amenities you'd expect and is conjoined with Secrets Vallarta. There are something like 5 restaurants, many pools, snack bar, and a whole bunch of activities organized throughout the day. Each day they'll drop off a flyer of the things that are going on from activities to shows. There is a casino and a small amphitheater. Didn't make it to any shows. BEACH/OCEAN We spent almost all our time here at the beach (parked next to the Whale Bell/Alert). The beach sand appeared to -potentially- be trucked-in as the surf revealed a pebble-laced shoreline. But closer to the resort the sand was soft, thick and hot! Theres a volleyball court on the beach in front of each resort. The ocean has a bit of surf and no one did much swimming but you would see a few people waist to neck deep in the waves. Lifeguard on duty each day. Entertainment crew always around to help out with the kayaks, hobbie cat or to play games. Thanks to Jamie for cooling down the sand with the hose and providing those free showers. RESTAURANTS AND FOOD QUALITY Since we only had 5 days and there was the wedding dinner and a rehearsal dinner, we did not get to try all the restaurants. I think they had Asian, French, Italian, Mexican and the Buffet plus snack bar. Maybe another mixed in there too. We did eat at the Mexican and French. Both were good with excellent food. We found overall food quality to be among if not the best we have had at a resort. Everything was delicious and prepared well. The only thing I found was that the pancakes and waffles at breakfast were not kept very warm sitting under the lamp. Each morning I had breakfast at the Buffet where Carlos H. ensured our coffees were kept filled with a splash of milk and baileys. Yum. Overall the food and drinks were great. Compliments to the chefs. SNACK BAR The snack bar was darn good too. Midday slice of pizza (usually 3 out to choose from - cheese, pep, hawaiian), burger and fries were all great. Omar made a couple trips over there for us. Thanks pal. Omar's service around the pool and beach is outstanding and he will definitely ensure you're well taken care of. SHOWS I skipped all the shows as, by around 930pm, I'm baked from the sun -and all the rest-. We were told the fire show was good, but I cannot confirm. Did see some fireworks from the balcony each night that appeared fired off from a bit down-coast of this property. CASINO Well, normally I stay away from these places, but in order to watch the Raptors NBA playoff game - which wasn't coming through to the room this particular night - I had to head down to the casino. There were a few tables for table games and some slots as well as an area for watching sport or a dance floor. In true casino fashion, no windows :) WEDDING We attended a wedding here. I felt it started a bit early at 6pm -baking in the hot afternoon sun-. The wedding was held in a central raised area more so on the Secrets side. Not much shade up there. There was a Sax player who was great. Food was delicious. Wrapped up around 1030 - 11pm. Around 50 guests? Overall was very nice. STAFF SHOUTOUT Aside from the issues we did experience with one, please understand that nearly all the staff were exemplary and the 2/5 score does not reflect their service or passion. Humberto - thank you for going out of your way to ensure that our time was enjoyable. Your advice and opinions are welcomed and you always held our interests in the highest regard. Humberto warned of the flag issue, but due to my lack of understanding and non-production of written policy by manager, flag was flown. Yesinia - you are very sweet and thoughtful. We appreciated your attention to detail. Omar - our point man at the beach, Omar always had us what we needed before we needed it. Refill? No problemo. Thanks Omar, you made our time at the beach tanning all that much better. Carlos H. - was frequently our server for breakfast at the buffet but also turned up at the wedding and was keen to ensure I had a great time. Thanks pal. Jamie - at the beach watering that scorching sand. Oladys - the front desk manager for speaking with me after our issues. You were very courteous and gracious and respectful. Others can learn alot from you. Yann - the GM. I had to email you, unfortunately due to the issue, but your timely response and understanding helped calm my mind and ease the pain we were feeling. I hope we can one day meet face to face for a laugh and beverage. Finally Jose Carlos - I know we disagreed, and ultimately never spoke again but I wish you luck in all your future endeavors. ISSUES So at the heart of the 2/5 score, are a couple issues we encountered: 1. A Canadian flag we bring all over the world with us, which has never been an issue anywhere - not Xcaret Mexico, Aruba, Curacao, St. Lucia, Roatan, Provo or Maui - was removed from our balcony without permission and (in our opinion) disrespected (found on floor). I contacted the "Manager On-Call" after asking to speak with the GM (Yann). Here I met Mr. Jose Carlos. We had a chat but were unable to come to an agreement on a resolution. Mr. Jose Carlos seemed the threaten my removal from the resort due to our disagreement, so I was required to 2nd our conversation and contact the GM directly. This resolved my issue immediately, although I still had to talk it over with Oladys the next day as well. Thanks Oladys :) For places like this, that rely heavily on recommendations and testimonials, as evidenced by the responses I received after writing my first review of simply the issue, I encourage Now Amber to develop a comprehensive side enterprise risk management strategy for situations like this that occur, while insignificant to most - to some can become a larger more complex problem. 2. After all that, the next morning, we were headed down for breakfast, where I was going to show the lady a large plumeria tree. Plumeria trees are so beautiful and we enjoy grabbing a flower from the tree. To my dismay, the tree had been hacked down at the trunk. In their defense, the tree was looking rather dehydrated and unpleasant, but was still flowering, was quite mature and should have been saved or salvaged. At least used for cuttings. When I asked the gardener what happened he could simply o ly say "gone". This was disappointing. I hope they can replant another plumeria somewhere on the property to replace. Overall we would go back and would also recommend Now Amber ease some of their "rules" and allow guest to have some customization of their space. I'm sure my next stay will be more pleasant and will a grieve the 5/5 score this place would have rather received. Sorry Yesinia, Humberto, Omar, Jamie, Carlos H, Oladys and Yann - this score is not reflective of the service you've provided which is 5/5, remembering that the actions of few can and do taint the actions of many. Perceptions. Cheers!

Good resort, mediocre service

This is a good resort with great location. The sunsets were very good. The waiters in the restaurants are friendly and provided good service. But the service in the pool area needs to improve greatly. The waiters/servers work only for the tip. I used to tip every time I ordered something at the pool or at the beach. And a couple of times I couldn't because I ran out of change, and the servers wouldn't look back to check if we need anything. Also, as it is with every resort, the drinks are very watered down. So you have to ask to make it strong every time to even feel some alcohol. Overall, having experienced other resorts in Mexico, I'd say it's a good (but not a great) resort.
