Wish there would've been more entertainment. Would've also liked daily housekeeping services instead of every other day. Otherwise, no complaints. My vacation was fantastic.

My wife and I love Couples resorts. This was our first time at Couples. We were initially surprised at how small the resort was compared to Swept Away, but we enjoyed that it was an older crowd (mostly 40s and up) that wasn't real wild and crazy. We come to enjoy the sun, sand, water and enjoy each other. This was the perfect place. We truly enjoyed all of the activities, watersports, excursions and meals provided. My wife needed some medical care while there and the nurse and doctor at the resort were so nice and professional and took great care of her. It was a great trip. Like everyone, we were sad to leave.

Both my wife and I very much enjoyed our second stay, as we did our first. The service is excellent and I wanted to give special thanks to two of your staff who stood out. Both the trainee, Leonardo, and veteran Ingrid, did an excellent job for us, were very friendly, and represented your resort very well. Please extend our thanks to them. We will definitely return.

We had one very big disappointment this trip ... we were not put in a room category that we paid for! We paid for ocean deluxe which meant partial ocean view however we were placed in a garden deluxe room which had no ocean view at all. The resort was only 35% occupied so this was a major issue for us. I feel the resort owes us the refund of the price difference with the two room categories.

We have made several trip with Apple and this was not up to par. The hotel must have been built in the 60s and has not been up graded since. Tile was cracked paint was peeling. Request took 2 to 3 days to be taken care of. Even a complaint by a number of guests took 3 days and one guest actually following an employee to make sure the common area was takken care of. My suggestion, find somewhere else not couples. For the money you can get much better. We will never go to a Couples again.

Wedding Group Satisfaction
Kelly U, Appleton, Wisconsin
Thu Nov 16 10:12:54 EST 2017
We stayed here for our wedding with a group of 34 people and everything was great! My husband and I have stayed at Couples Swept Away and loved it, but wanted the smaller setting for a group our size so we could have people spread out doing what they enjoy while still passing and catching up with others in the group. This setting was great for that. Check-In was quick and easy, we are Romance Rewards members so we got to request a building and have our mini bar stocked upon arrival. Everything was ready for us. While an upgrade is not expected, we were surprised to learn we were the only wedding that week and there was no upgrade given. Aside from that, we spend very little time in the room, so a smaller room is not an issue for us, we had all the essentials. We took advantage of as many of the daily and nightly activities as we were able to, and most were enjoyable. I am not the type of person who needs to participate, but I do like to watch, and I appreciate that there are people to help get the crowd involved, but you do not feel forced to join in. A big plus for me. Our group went on the catamaran cruise and loved it, it was very similar to our experience at Swept Away. We also booked a bus to Rick's Cafe as many of our group were eager to see what all they hype was about. The driver was great and we're happy we booked it over going through the resort. Wedding day had rain in the forecast (which what day doesn't in the tropics?!) The wedding staff was amazing with accommodating our request to get the ceremony in on the beach prior to the downpour that was that day's rainstorm. The reception ended up being indoors rather than in the garden and was still a blast. Looking back, it was nice that the one day it poured, our whole group had plans all day, so we weren't left with a day to find something to do while it rains. It was perfect! The biggest differences I noticed between Swept Away and Negril were few. There were many more vendors on the beach at Swept Away, we liked having the opportunity to buy from them in Negril, but having a lot less of them was great! Also, with fewer, they remember you and it's nice to say hello to someone on the beach even if you aren't buying something. The beaches are very similar in my opinion. You can swim out to the ropes at both, float and enjoy a walk on the beach, I loved it. The flag system seemed to work a lot better at Negril vs Swept Away which was neat because of our large group, someone always ordered something. The size of the resort is perfect, a bit smaller and very comfortable, never felt crowded or needed to fight for a chair. The pools were the biggest difference for us. We much preferred the pool at Negril. It was bigger, warmer and just in a better overall location. We used the pool maybe twice while at Swept Away and spent most of our time at the beach. At Negril we spent our mornings at the beach and then headed to the pool for the afternoons, it was clean and also never crowded. The staff at Negril was not as friendly as Swept Away. The wedding coordinators were beyond fantastic! The girls who cleaned our room were very friendly and always waved hello or good morning when we saw them. The bartenders overall were good. There is one who was normally at the pool bar, he would usually deliver our drinks during volleyball games and he was great too, quick but always had a minute to joke and smile with us. The female staff seemed to be more uptight, not sure that's even the right word, they were just less social and more just doing their job, not there to converse or have fun. The entertainment guy (I'm so mad his name escapes me) was fantastic. He had nicknames for people in our group, always stopped to say hello, was great with remembering names, and just really friendly. Every time we passed him he seemed to be singing and always waved hello and smiled, we truly looked forward to seeing him everyday! This was a great trip and we will be back, we love Jamaica and especially Couples. Our 34 friends now have a new vacation spot to call home also.

Good Stay But Needs Some Fine Tuning

Stayed at Couples Negril for 9 days in early November. Overall it was a nice stay but not quite up to par with what we were expecting. Hotel: The grounds and hotel were very nice. It is more of a rustic tropical feel and it was quite nice. We loved the swings in the lobby and the small size of the resort was quite manageable. Rooms: Clean and well kept. We had an "Ocean Deluxe" room and would not pay the upgrade again as we felt all the rooms were about the same except for the suites. We did dislike the bathroom, the shower does allow water to soak the floor, there is no exhaust fan, the slatted windows and doors provides zero privacy and the lighting leaves something to be desired. The water pressure and temp was all over the place and the bath products were terrible. We brought our own and so glad we did not forget anything. Beach: Lovely beach, one of the best I have been on. Vendors came by but as people have said, a polite "no thanks" and they move on. The water was warm and clear most days and we spent most mornings here. Couples definitely could have used a few more chairs as several people in the afternoon could not find seating and there was plenty of open area but no loungers. Pool: Fairly clean, great water temp and a good time. Food: Ranged from fair to great. We had trouble getting what we actually ordered but other than that it was decent all around. If you can just go with the flow and are not very picky you should be able to find something you like. Buffet and beach grill need to be improved a bit, the food selection at the buffet was good however if you were not there early, things were not replenished often. The beach grill left something to be desired, most greens were warm and wilted. Service: Here is where we struggled a bit. As others have mentioned service waxed and waned. It was very hit or miss both in quality and in friendliness. Our room was cleaned once a day between 12 and 5pm which we would have preferred earlier so we could have come back to the room and napped or showered early for dinner. We did ask about the towel art as we didn't get any, once we asked they started doing it. Obviously not a big deal but we were confused that some people were getting it and not others. Nightly turn down service, well, we had it 2 nights out of our stay and only because we asked both nights as we needed towels. Our final night no one came, after 2 phone calls and 90 minutes later we gave up. We went to the beach in the morning to grab towels for our shower so we could check out. Oddly enough we had people staying on the other side say they had housekeeping stop by 2-3 times a day. We did have great service from Oswald and Vinessa from dining and there was a lovely young man at the front desk/guest relations but I did not catch his name. Ivelyn and Charles were fantastic bartenders and Shakur and O'brian (?) were a lot of fun. Entertainment: As others have mentioned, this place is pretty quiet at night. By 10pm most people have turned in. Although we loved Donovan in the piano bar he sang the same songs night after night. I think that the resort needs to change up their nightly entertainment a bit. We agreed with the comment that there should be more "Island Music" as it really was just a ton of American Music most of the time. The lobby band was great and we wish that we could have heard more of them or music like that. I don't think anyone heads to Jamaica hoping to hear a ton of American country or classic rock. Overall we had a nice stay and had no major complaints just minor annoyances. We met some great people who we may return with next year but that would probably be the only reason we are not exploring other options. I think with some fine tuning it could be an excellent experience. We will probably go back but I hope that the next time around is a step up.

Amazing Stay... BUT

So this is a late review but we are finally settling in to the normal life and I had some times on my hands. We have ben to couples many many years. We already know what to expect. There was a lots of new staff and we feel this may have been because of the opening of the new hotels. That being said, there were A LOT OF new faces and we return not so much because of the physical property but the staff. Couples has been a little inconsistent with service over the numbers of years. Some staff will give you A1 service while some it was almost a bother. At times my husband and I even felt like we did not want to ask for anything but just get it ourselves. Food is always so good here!!! The beach for the most part is green but some serious work need to put in to the lounge chairs and floats. Room was great - we were on block 6. Quiet for the most part besides some rowdy guests below us. Our a/c didnt work for 2 days but we made no complaint as it wasnt a great deal to us. Activities were more or less the same but the staff!????? Music still at a minimal - even two years later. SO MANY NEW FACES SO MANY DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES. WHAT HAPPENED.?? We saw our girl Sanya and our man Okeno but Sanya you have fallen veryyyy short. You were so much more fun 2 years ago when we visited? What happened? We met "Tupac" Shakur. Great guy, fun person but I don't know something just does not connect. He can come across a bit stern and aggresive and jokes fall flat. Orece was a laid back characrter not a bad thing but definitely needs to be seen more. We may have seen him 2 times and he never once remembered our names. The newest female Lauretta was a BLAST. When i tell you A1 communication skills, A+ in remembering names, GREAT execution of activities, GREAT CONVERSATIONS and totally a bunch of laughs. this is a great addition to the team. She has surpassed other female coordinators we have met in past. This chica certainly needs to be recognized. After activities guests still speak about her, we see the interpersonal relationship between guests and staff from this young lady. EVERYONE HAS MET HER that we spoke to and that says a lot. Beautiful girl, amazing personality. Well done! The one thing negative however is that the team doesn't seem to have much chemistry. Some of the co-workers reactions and responses to each other weren't very pleasing to see. More personalities like this are needed as when guests meet her first and then meet the rest of the entertainment team it is disappointing when it is not consistent. Besides that everything was either the same as before or fell short. Couples needs to check into this as you could lose your repeat guests if you have major inconsistencies like these

Birthday Celebrations
Southender2013, Crawley, United Kingdom
Wed Nov 15 08:49:08 EST 2017
Booked this hotel to celebrate my wife's 50th Birthday......was expecting something spectacular.......but to be honest was left quite disappointed. On arrival we were advised that we had to have $300 blocked on our credit card.....and at the end of our stay it would take 6 days to release the money back into our account........when asked why...we were not given an acceptable explanation.......it was only when we went to the gift shop the following day and tried to pay by cash we were told it was a cashless resort and we would have to settle up at the end of our stay.......it made sense then. The room we had 2304 was spacious with a queen sized bed and roomy shower and toilet room.......the balcony overlooked the gardens. Room had mini bar......iron.....ironing board..........hair dryer in the bathroom.......and air conditioning. room was cleaned on a daily basis and our room attendant Latoya was very good. Towels could be if so required changed daily. The mini bar can be adapted to suit your needs on a daily basis and this is done by leaving a card outside your door. You should get as the norm 2 beers/1 diet Pepsi/1 regular pepsi/I Ginger Ale.You could also get at no extra cost Sparking wine, red wine white wine, orange juice and 7Up. Unfortunately ours was filled on a hit and miss basis and I had to phone down to reception a few times to get the bar filled. Should you wish you can have an extra cost spirits in your bar. You can also have a continental breakfast delivered to your room from 0600-1030 and again you need to place the card on your door the night before. A choice of cereal, pastries ,croissants, yoghurts ,fruit, tea, coffee and fruit juices are available to order. Breakfast is in the Cassava restaurant by the pool. Here you can have a variety of foods from cereal to pancakes, omelettes, Jamaican delicacies, and Danish pastries. Service we found in here was very lack lustre......we were shown to a table........the napkins were dropped on the table....we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee .and then 15 mins later we had to chase up the hot drinks. There are many restaurants on the site but we tended to eat at the grill in the evening as the service in there was a 1000 times better than the Cassava . There is a large pool area with sun beds and sunshades. There are 2 Jacuzzis also. Adjacent to the pool is a swim up bar. We only used the pool once as there seemed to be a greasy film floating on the top ......this was due to others failing to shower before entering the pool and consequently sunscreen washing off in the water. The beach was not as dramatic as the picture in the brochure led you to believe. Sunbeds were of very poor quality and within 30 seconds of going on the beach on our 1st day I was offered marijuana ......something that continued on a regular basis daily. Too many hawkers trying to get you to buy tat,,,,,,,,including cigarettes.....hair braiding.....bracelets......handbags........parasailing........water tubing........all came with the offer of ready rolled spliffs. There were a couple of very good musicians on the beach who entertained the people down there. The the sea was amazing.........like stepping into a warm bath and not too deep. If you so wish and it floats your boat there is a nudist beach for those that want an all over tan....but it is couples only.....NO SINGLES ALLOWED There are bar tenders working the beach and you will be given a red flag which you place in the sand to get their attention.........again we found this to be very hit and miss in the fact that we would order our drinks and then had to go and get them ourselves as they had forgotten about us. We did 3 trips whilst out there..........the 1st was to Black River and YS Falls which was fantastic The 2nd was a catamaran trip which included snorkelling and a trip to Ricks Café which was shambolic and very poorly organised and our 3rd was to Mystic Mountains and Dunns Waterfalls. On the whole although we had a relaxing break we were very disappointed with the hotel which is in need of some updating and some of the staff need some serious training in customer service skills. We cannot fault those staff that were on reception, in the gift shops and working in the Grill restaurant,,,,,,,but many of the others were just going through the motions. Despite reassurances from hotel management my own personal opinion is that American and Canadian guests received much more favourable treatment. Just one further note...........This is a no tipping hotel..........I strongly believe that had we been allowed to tip the service we would have got would have been so much better

Not quite 4 star, but almost! So much great, some average..still wonderful!

We absolutely love Jamaica, no matter where we stay. Just a breakdown of the good and so-so, based on our experience. We had an amazing vacation! Resort: Average, needs some TLC. The exterior is a bit run down. Grounds are decent, nothing fancy. Still, nice. Small, which we liked a lot. Rooms: We had a TINY peek at the ocean for our "deluxe ocean view" room. To us, it didn’t seem worth the additional cost to upgrade to beachfront. It’s not really “beachfront”. We saw photos of other travelers having little towels as animals; we didn’t get that for some reason. Bummer! Rooms are bright and clean. Definitely not a fan of the bathroom! There is no privacy as the door is light and wood mini blind-like - sorry, love my fiancé but bathroom is too open, if you will. Love the idea of shower with no door but water gets all over the floor. Did not like the blinds in the windows in shower. Too open, no screen and bugs get in. Little outdated. Still, nice. Room otherwise was cute. AC was great, quiet and cool. If you don't like the light from the AC unit and need complete darkness like we do, there's a button to turn it off so no light. Cute slippers, robes and toiletries. Mini bar was refilled daily; it’s not premium liquor that is included. Wine was cheap, not great, but, still, nice. Restaurants: Great! Food was good. Lunch time gets a little old with the options, but otherwise great. Suggest switching up the lunch menu options a bit as it was mostly the same every day, could have used some more variety. All dinner restaurants were great. From scallops, beef tenderloin, pasta, salads, just great all around. Asian was wonderful. Loved the sushi. Breakfast buffet was good, many options. Holy bees swarming the pastries, but just ignore and they don't bother you. Random cats; no bother. Beach was nice. Lots of seaweed due to recent storms. Seemed to take a while to clean up, but they were working on it. Red flag service for drinks….not so much. There were more people coming around cleaning up cups than there were bringing drinks, wish this was better. Still, beach bar was close by for us to go ourselves. Entertainment, Fabulous! Service Outstanding!! Activities, some were limited/certain days so we missed out on some things. Many, many returning guests. But for us, we probably wouldn’t come back to this particular resort, but try another Couples Resort for sure.
