They only thing we would like to say other than it was an amazing time is that we were a little disappointed that the resort did not do more for us being there on our honeymoon.

This trip was our honeymoon and was both of our's first time staying at an all-inclusive resort. Friends of ours had previously stayed here for their honeymoon and highly recommended this resort to us and it did not disappoint. All of the staff from the hotel were very friendly, and helpful. The room, beach, and grounds were very well kept and maintained. We hope to repeat customers in the future!

Couples Negril was the first all inclusive my boyfriend and I had ever been to, so we may have been easily impressed, but everything was amazing. The service and the food were continually on point. Anything we needed or any questions or issues we had were easily resolved or answered. The room was very clean and with nightly turndown service we constantly had clean/dry towels in our room. I absolutely loved it. The rooms are not super modern or updated, but with all the things to do and the beach so close, not much time was spent there. We would definitely stay there again and are already thinking of booking our next trip.

The food at this hotel was top-notch. Most of it was made to order. Especially the dinners. Bar service was a bit spotty, but we did find some people to be outstanding and they made up for the ones that were really in no hurry to wait on you. Maid service was perfect. The grounds were lush and green and well-cared for. The pool was cleaned daily and kept up very nicely. Bathrooms were always cleaned and stocked. Other than a mishap where we were taken to the wrong room upon arrival, everything went smoothly. Entertainment was excellent. Beach/ocean activities and lifeguards were friendly and engaging. I'd come back again! Nothing was amiss.

10 Days Fun in the Sun
RWhitbread, Ottawa, Canada
Fri Feb 22 09:41:55 EST 2019
Arrival Where to begin. My wife and I, traveling with my cousin and his wife, arrived at Couples Negril on Feb 8th 2019. The journey down to Negril from Toronto (our departure city) was less that ideal (late departure, damaged luggage), but I never let the jump impact my resort reviews. The only reason I mention it at all, is that we did, in fact, arrive quite later than scheduled and were a bit harried by delays and luggage damage, and that’s where the staff at the Couples Lounge in Sangster Airport (CL) and Couples Negril (CN) took over From the moment we arrived at the lounge, the stress from the flight, melted away. This was entirely due to the warm, friendly, and professional staff at the lounge, our shuttle driver, and the front desk staff at the resort itself. Front desk We arrived relatively late at night so first impressions of the resort layout, other than the gorgeous view of the pool from the lobby, would have to wait for the next day. The front desk staff welcomed us with the traditional cool towel and drink, which was a nice way to finally arrive at our destination. Check in was a breeze, and room location spot on. As I mentioned, we were traveling with another couple, and I had pre-requested that we be lodged close to the dive shop and near our traveling companions. Well the reservation folks did a great job. Not only we were in Building 3 (Fairly close to the dive shop) by our traveling companions were in the same building, just one floor up, and one room over! A great start to a great vacation. Our Room Our room was fine, although we did have one issue during our stay which I’ll address a bit later. Building 3 is located with a great view of the internal garden/spa area which provided us with an almost Zen like view each morning. Amenities in the room were standard for a resort at this level, and the chamber staff from the maids, to the in-room bar mini bar stocking, were just great. The only issue we had with our room was when the air conditioner starting leaking, causing quite a flood in part of the room. A quick call to the front desk, and in a very short time, a building technician was by to fix the leaking unit. Some of our clothes (the ones in our little collapsible laundry hamper), got quite wet. We simply hung them out to dry on the balcony. One thing of note in our room, and I assume most others at the level we booked, was the lack of traditional dressers. Instead the resort has opted for a set of wicker baskets in a tower holder, and two, open faced, end tables with shelving. This is a nit pick really, but as I travel with a fair amount of camera gear, and electronics, I tend to prefer furniture with standard closed faced drawers; just to keep the room looking neat, and to afford me some place to put items I’d prefer not to be on open display. But again, this was a nit pick. The bathroom has ample room, standard North American 110v power, and a large rain shower. (Big plus for us). The only real complaint I have about the rooms, is a personal one; I found the mattresses on the bed too hard for my back (at home we sleep on a firm mattress, but the one in our room were almost rock hard in comparison and after 10 days, it started to take its toll on me. The Restaurants The resort has four main dining areas; Cassava Terrace (the main buffet and show venue), the beach Grill & Heliconia restaurant (the latter being part of the grill area that is transformed into a casual dining area at night), Lychee (an Asian influence casual dining spot) and Otaheite (the resorts formal dining room). All the restaurants, except for the Otaheite, do not require reservations. Before I delve into the restaurants, I must confess, we did not eat at the Heliconia, and that we think that was a mistake. We dined primarily at the Cassava, with a few nights at Lychee, and one night at Otaheite. The food at the restaurants we did eat at was simply delicious and varied. The Cassava alternates between partial table service (salads and dessert always coming from the buffet area) and full buffet style dining. While I’m not a huge fan of buffet style dining, I found this one to be exceptional, with the selection catering to most needs including having choices for vegans, and gluten free diets as well as a great variety of local dishes. The only issue I has with the Cassava, was with the music/entertainment. This seating area of this restaurant also serves as the nightly entertainment (stage shows) area, and while the performers were all great, the volume was far too loud for room and the typical number of diners. This made it almost a shouting fest, if one wished to engage in dinner conversation. In fact, one night I ventured over to the Heliconia, across the entire main pool and mezzanine area, and found the flood over music from the Cassava to be closer to the right level, but again this was across a quarter way across the entire common area of the resort. Perhaps a but more attention to the volume levels during the dining hours is needed. Of note, the Cassava is the only restaurant open for breakfast. We alternated between there, and the Beach Grill for lunches. The Lychee was our second “go to” for dining. Its Asian fusion style was well prepared, and the Sushi and Sashimi as good as I have had at any dedicated Sushi restaurant I highly recommend this restaurant. The ambiance was more typical of a restaurant dining experience, with background music appropriately set to promoting diner conversation. The Otaheite was a very pleasant dining experience, with great food, and good overall ambience. The menu is varied, and there is something there for all tastes. The only knock I had here, was the fact that the over populate the dining area for the room size, again making it a bit difficult to fully enjoy the dining experience. Tables are place fairly close to one another, and when you get a few large tables, with folks with alcohol inspired vocal volumes, it can be hard to maintain a pleasant diner conversation one would associate with “fine dining”. Aside from that feeling of being a bit too “packed in” and drowned out by the sheer volume from other tables’ conversation, the dining experience here is very good, and the food quite excellent. The Bars ( by day) There are four primary “sit at” bars at this resort; the main bar in Cassava, the Beach Bar, the swim up Pool Bar, and the Piano Bar. By bar, I do not mean service bars, but bars where one can sit and converse with other guests. All bars serve premium label alcohol, various tropical drinks, etc. The main bar in Cassava and the Beach Bar are “hubs” during the day and evening, and both are excellent in both the quality of drinks served and bar service. The Bars (by night) At night only three bars are open; The main bar in Cassava (typically closes at 11PM), the beach bar, (typically closes at 2AM) and the Piano Bar (also typically closes at 2AM). Of note, in the evening, is the Piano Bar; which hosts a variety of evening activities, including a sing along (lead by the resorts number one piano man Paul, local talent nights (Donovan Darwymple is a must to se),karaoke, and disco style(dance nights). I must confess, as a one who used to play and sing in front of people, I did enjoy picking up the mic a few times and letting my inner rock star out. Entertainment/Activities If one wishes to let “sand gravity” take control of their down time, there are more than enough lounges and places to luxuriate beneath the Caribbean sun. This is a big plus for a resort of this size, as some of the others we have experienced required pre-dawn reconnaissance exercises and “staking claim” runs to ensure a comfortable place to relax while sun worshiping. Not so here, there are chairs aplenty. The main pool area is beautiful, with a long rectangular pool (suitable for swimming laps) that sports hut tubs on both ends, and a tiny waterfall that spills into the swim up pool bar (a staple in most resorts of this calibre). If you prefer a more “sand and salt” experience, the beach is absolutely gorgeous, with soft white sand, and gentle surf (when there is any surf at all). The only downside to the resort’s beach is its relatively long distance from any coral reef; making impromptu snorkeling. In fact, the reef is so far away from the beach front, and the fronting ocean far too boat busy, that beach swimming is confined to roped off (for swimmer’s safety of course) areas. So, if you are one of those free style snorkelers who like to range far and wide; this beach is not for you. There are daily snorkeling trips to a nearby reef, but these must be signed up for in advance, making the stay a feel a bit more regimented, rather than spontaneous. The resort sports the typical cadre of other watersports, including paddleboards, paddleboats, windsurfer boards, sea kayaks, and Hobie Cat sail boats. These are all available, and free of charge. Then there is the diving. The resort boasts a fully certified (PADI) dive shop that offers both dive services and instruction/certification. In fact, one of our group decided to obtain his Advance Open Water certification on this trip. My wife and I are already certified divers, so we hauled our gear down for a few dives. From what I saw of the diving it was good to above average, but I had a sinus issue halfway through the vacation and ended up beached (dive wise) getting only one good dive in. My cousin, who certified, did tell me that the areas he saw were all great. Of the reefs that I saw, all looked to be in good shape, with varied wildlife, including one of the biggest Nurse sharks I have seen in the wild. Closer to home, there are various, daily activities lead by the entertainment crew, including Pool Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, poolside bingo, and other such diversions typical in a large resort. These are not really “my thing” but the folks participating looked like they were having fun. As to the on-site spa. only one of our traveling party elected to use that facility, and she said their massages were excellent; something for me to try the next time we visit. Getting “off-resort” was fun as well, whether its just the shopping run to Time Square, or indulging in one of the many “for cost” off-resort excursions This trip we got “off-resort” a few times, including taking a late night swim in the Luminous Lagoon, a trek up the Black River, splashing around at YS Falls, a tour of the Appleton Rum Distillery, and an non-organized tour to Rick’s Café (a one time “must” if you are in the area. To Sum Up Let me preface this by saying, this was not our first time to a Couples Resort; we stayed at Couples San Souci (CSS), two years ago. I seldom compare one resort to another, believing that each have their own merit, but in this case I will draw a bit of a comparison. I found the “vibe” at CN a bit different than CSS, with the former being a bit less chill than the latter; but again, this is more of a personal thing than a knock-on CN. I found the beach and ocean more to my liking at Negril but found the staff far busier and more focused on getting then job done; rather than more open, relaxed and friendly vibe I got from the staff at CSS. This is not to take anything away from CN; and I will definitely return; there are just way too many plusses at CN with the diving, beach, and surrounding areas having a bit more to them. Staff shout-outs I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to give some shout-outs to individual staff members who went that extra step to make out stay all that more special: Tavoya: (Cinnamon at Karaoke) of the entertainment crew was simply amazing and always ready to help, and always with a smile on her face). Odean: Our main man at Cassava restaurant, who always was there with a smile and “welcome”. Linton: at the pool bar; the man knows who to make a drink and is always so chill.\ Taylor: at the beach bar; just as a dept as Linton, and prettier Steve: Dive Instructor extraordinaire Omar: Dive Instructor extraordinaire Thank you all, and we’ll see you again; real soon

We have traveled around the Caribbean, and this continues to be our favorite spot. We just went back this January, and could not have been more sad to leave. The people, the food, and Jamaican Rum Cream . . . So hard to leave. We will be back soon - maybe for more than a week this time.

We went with friends, 4 couples at Couples. We had a great time. Loved the entertainment staff, bartenders, dining staff, watersports staff. We went snorkeling 4 times in a week, only the night snorkel was an upcharge. Our friends went on 5 dives and 2 snorkels. They had enough to keep you as active or as relaxed as you wanted to be. Food was really good, never disappointed. We ate at all the venues and enjoyed it all. The lamb was very good, steak, pasta, seafood, sushi. I do wish they had bigger coffee cups at breakfast (that is the worst thing I can say, so it’s amazing!!!) Housekeeping was excellent and we had fresh towels twice a day. The sunset cruise was also amazing as well as side trips to Push Cart Bar and Margaritaville for sunsets. Couples Negril checked all of our boxes.

Nice Resort, Unbelievably Bad Accounting Department
ronsc1985, Manassas, Va
Thu Feb 14 03:41:30 EST 2019
The resort is mostly clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and always helpful. The boat trip was fun as the crew was humorous took their time pointing out the many points of interest on the Negril beach. The food was good at the restaurants. The grill was in need of some supervision as the employees were standing around talking instead of cleaning taking orders and cleaning the tables. Once the food arrived it was excellent , but one should not have to ask the servers to clean the table off. The specialty restaurants were good with the exception of the meal we had at the one that requires reservations. We had duck and all I can say is they shouldn't let the chef anywhere near a duck carcass again. The rest of the meal was excellent. I would have given the resort at least four stars but my experience with their accounting department has lowered my rating to three and that is being extremely generous. After arriving home the next month I noticed a $700 charge from Couples for a date after we had departed in spite of having no bill upon departure. I call the credit card company, dispute the charge, and it gets resolved in my favor. The next month I get another charge for $100 and $3500 for a trip I had cancelled and had received the $400 deposit back. The trip was cancelled well before the 45 day deadline and I had an email from Couples confirming this cancellation in plenty of time with no penalty. I have already spent an hour or so with my credit card company and because of the spurious charges from Couples had to cancel the card and have a new one reissued with a different number so the next time they screw up I don't have to go through this again. In summary although the resort was good the continuing problems with their accounting department makes me hesitant to ever go to another Couples resort again.

Excellent Resort in the best bay in Jamaica
Stephanie S, ND
Tue Feb 12 16:48:47 EST 2019
We just returned from our first visit to Couples Negril. We are big fans of Jamaica, this was our 8th visit. And we believe the bay this resort is located in is the very best for that stereotypical calm blue beach. Beach Review - the biggest wave from the entire week didn't even hit my knee. It was a slow slant out into the ocean to the perfect swim area. There is a very large swim area and the beach never felt crowded. There is plenty of shade or sun, depending on what you're looking for and the bar is within a 15 second walk. Dining Review - we aren't buffet fans, so I truly can't give a review on that. We loved the food. For the couple of times we ate the buffet for breakfast, it was very good. There was something wonderful each night. I will say that we don't expect the best meal of our life at a resort in Jamaica. We expect very good food, an excellent selection, and our expectations were exceeded at each meal. Bar Review - this was the best bar menu we've had at any resort. We loved the top shelf options. The bar staff was good but I will say they seem micromanaged. The staff that was least interactive of any resort we've been to. As with most things, there are exceptions to the rule. There was a couple staff members that were more interactive. But, for the most part, they seemed to be looking over their shoulder constantly to see who was watching them. Typically we enjoy chatting with the bartenders so this was a little disappointing. And, we were not the only guests who mentioned this. The drinks were always wonderful though! Entertainment Review - 1/2 of the entertainment staff was incredibly interactive and the other 1/2 was not. We LOVED the entertainment staff that was responsible for most of the activities. They work hard and truly added to our vacation. As far as evening entertainment goes, this resort was the weakest of any resort we've been to. Typically we dance the night away to the band playing along with many other people from the resort. That was simply not the case here. The steel drum band was incredible! Aside from that, it was weak. Again, multiple people said the same thing as we did. It was not a gathering place in the evening for most people due to the quality. The Super Bowl party was terrific!! Room Review - there is not a bad room location in this entire resort. The beds were so comfortable. The rooms were clean and comfortable! The housekeeping staff was terrific! It's not marble and brass but truly we don't look for that in Jamaica. Resort grounds, beach, garden, pools, and facility - This is our favorite place of the 5 Jamaica resorts we've been to. For a resort in the Caribbean, we believe it's truly the best. It's beautiful. And it represents the local culture perfectly. The staff are constantly cleaning and manicuring the grounds and buildings. We will return to this resort. We love smaller/personal resorts and this one fits it so perfectly. There is always someone looking to complain about something. :) For those of us looking to have an enjoyable/relaxing time, love the beach, love the sun, and enjoy an adult beverage ... then this resort may be for you. It is our favorite!
