After many years of all inclusive resorts in Mexico, we ventured for our first visit to the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana. We visited from May 14 to May 21, 2017. Most staff were exceptionally friendly and willing to ensure all your needs and desires were met. Those exceptional employees we enjoyed interacting with every day at the restaurants were Francia, Yary, Exequiel, and Sandy along with Albert at the pool. These employees went out of their way wanting to make sure you were having a great time. Regarding the restaurants we loved, include the Hashira Japanese and the El Galeon Surf & Turf. If you want great lobster for lunch, see Sandy at the outside grille. Sandy has a great personality and grills such great and tasteful lobster. Two restaurant draw backs were the La Tentazione Italian and the Bella Vista Buffet, morning buffet. For dinner at La Tentazione, the food was cold to luke warm and lacked seasoning. The morning buffet consisted of the same food every morning. No variation. Many all inclusive resorts we have stayed at, the morning buffet either changes daily or every other day offering many different options. Not here. One plus advertised at this resort and many comment on is the Butler service. We have never been at an all inclusive with Butler service before. During our stay, we had three different Butlers and nothing really worked from any of them. They never communicated with each other. Things they said would get done never did. To us this was not a big plus. To end, the pools have plenty of chairs, covered cabanas, numerous chairs on a beautiful beach. Thank you to Francia, Yary, Esequiel, Sandy and Albert for making our first trip to your resort memorable. PS, Esequiel would make a great Butler because he is concerned about customer service, which out three were not.

WOW!!! What an amazing week

Just returned from our stay at the Iberostar Grand Bavaro and all that we can say is WOW!!! From our arrival at the front desk (Juan Carlos, #1), to our departure everything was done with style and efficiency, exactly what you would expect from a 5 star resort. The reception at Grand Bavaro was much more welcoming and courteous compared to our experience at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso Mexico. Although I never has a chance to meet Jorge Rodriguez (Front Desk Manager) face to face, Jorge or his team were always VERY quick to respond to any query/request before and during our stay. Being 100% beach people we must say that the beach is beautiful, the water very calm and easy to swim in (except for some seaweed). No need to get up at the crack of dawn to find a spot to sit unless you enjoy the beautiful sunrises. With Dionis(la playa) making us excellent drinks, to Didi entertaining us and Albert (pool/beach concierge) making sure that everything was excellent. We truly felt well taken care of and all of the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience. Our room 7331(all rooms except suites are the same it seems) was well appointed, bed was comfy and the AC worked very wel (had the room at 19C). Amazingly limited to no humidity in the room, sheets did NOT feel damp at all. There are several employees that were outstanding and we feel that they deserve our praise. Chef Altagracia made sure that we were always pleased with our food regardless of where we were eating. Not sure how she does it, but she is always present during dining hours with a welcoming smile. Chef Sandy makes the best grilled lobster tails and provides excellent service at lunch! Which other Resort provides you with unlimited fresh meat(hamburger through rib steak) or fish/shellfish(sea bass, salmon, tuna, lobster, etc)for lunch? Lastly our server at breakfast and the Mediterranean (try the kobe beef) Wilfredo was super-efficient and courteous. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay memorable a special thank you to Wilfredo for making the night of our anniversary extraordinary. The only thing that we were disappointed in was the supper buffet, but it may have just been the night we tried it. Having previously been to the Mexican Grand, where the buffet at night was outstanding, we figured that we would eat there avoiding reservations and being on a schedule. After our first meal there, we realized that the selection and food was not as good as the one in Mexico. No worries, our butler Kelvin secured us reservations at a la carte restaurants for the rest of the week. Butler Carlos and Justo were also very helpful when Kelvin left for his leave. On the flip side, the a la cartes were generally much better than in Mexico. The Surf and Turf was our favorite, the filet was outstanding. Having been to several adult only resorts including Sandals, Don Pablo Collection, Paradisus and Excellence, we feel that the Iberostar Grand resorts are superior to the others. Kudos to the staff and management!! Looking forward to coming back to the Iberostar Grand Bavaro (our new home in DR) next March and hopefully again next July.

Great food and service! The room was clean and amazing with the swim out pool. I can't wait to come back! I would highly recommend this resort! Cordero, Luis, Armando, Bruno, Robert, Jeffrey, and Strawberry are the best!

An Amazing Stay at the Iberostar Grand

There's no question that his hotel charges a premium rate when compared to others in Punta Cana. So the real question at the end of the day is whether the resort is worth paying that premium. My wife and I returned today from a week stay for our anniversary at the Iberostar Grand Bavaro. For us, the question is an unequivocal yes. We absolutely loved the resort and found it to be well worth the price. ROOMS: Very large. Very comfortable. Individual climate control and strong AC and ceiling fan. Incredibly comfortable bed and pillows. Well-stocked and often-replenished minibar. They will customize the minibar for you. One of the most amazing showers I have ever experienced at a hotel. The swim-out rooms are on the lowest level, have minimal view, have a shared pool, and back to a path used by workers and many golf carts. If you're going to upgrade, go for oceanview. BUTLER SERVICE: These guys are just incredible. They know everything about you (in a good way) and just silently observe to make sure that you have the best vacation possible. We had Jose and Rafael who were terrific. Always there if we needed something but not intrusive. if you like bubble baths, these are your guys. FOOD/DRINK: The best food and drink we've ever had at an all-inclusive. The buffets are well-stocked, have great variety of fresh foods. The a la carte restaurants are a much better choice for dinner. We tried all of them but the Japanese and liked the Italian the best. Make reservations ahead of time by e-mailing the resort. And remember for "carta de vinos". At dinner they have a wine list but will only give it to you upon request. That being said, the resort is far from skimpy on booze. The liquor served at the bar is way higher caliber than at other all inclusives. And unlike at other resorts that we've stayed where the pina colada is pulled from a Slurpee-like machine and topped with rum, here every single drink was hand made. Bruno at the poolside bar is a whirlwind all afternoon long. SERVICE: The service was terrific in every possible way. It was hospitality industry folks who are just really, really good at their jobs. The drink servers by the pool (Hamlet) who remember your preferences after a day or two and appear three minutes after you get settled with your drink of choice. Service in the restaurants and buffets was equally impressive. These folks work so damn hard but they never break a sweat. It's incredible. ENTERTAINMENT STAFF: These kids do a great job. It's not as easy at the Grand, as you have a smaller number of guests, many of whom want a quiet vacation. This staff does a great job of getting folks up and playing games, be it Bingo at 4pm, dance lessons on the beach, a game of Magic Carpet pool basketball, and any number of other things. Special shout out to Miguel, Armando, Maria, Yuselmy, and Rodrigo for going above and beyond. AMBIENCE/GROUNDS: This was specifically designed to be a kid-free vacation. And man... walk down the beach to the other Iberostar. Then walk back to the Grand. The difference is incredible. Even on days when the resort is at capacity, it is serene and quiet and calm poolside and beachside. You will have to get down early to reserve a shade hut by the pool. The grounds are impeccably and constantly maintained. Unlike other all inclusives where the "granite" column is really a stucco material with painted granite, everything at the Grand is the real deal. Beautiful. TWO NITPICKY THINGS: 1) The gym does not seem to be air conditioned. It is east facing. In the morning it is really, really, really, really hot. There should at least be fans in there to circulate the air. 2) Please cool it with the Prestige Level pitch from a concierge. I really don't need to be called down by the concierge because he has something at his desk for me and that something is an invitation to come to his "30 minute" tour the next day. It really does detract from the start of a great vacation. All of this being said, the resort is amazing. I'm not a paid endorser. I may sound like it. This place is the real deal. It's worth the money. As my wife said on the way to the airport, this is the first resort we've stayed at where she truly wants to return.

Absolutely amazing

My fiancé and I just returned home from visiting iberostar grand bávaro. Everything was outstanding and well worth the money. The grounds are beautiful and will take your breath away from the moment you enter. Upon arrival, you receive your choice of champagne or piña colada (or both) and a cool towel that smells intoxicating - the scent is all around the hotel too! The hotel is very clean and well-kept. Rooms are air conditioned with a fan and felt great after being outside in the heat all day. After checking in and confirming our excursions, our bags were taken up by the bell boy and our butler gave us a tour of our room and asked us about dinner reservations for the week. We ended up trying three different restaurants for dinner and they were all good. We had dinner at the buffet the first night and it was fantastic. The breakfast buffet each day was amazing and they have so many choices - omelette station, crepe station, fresh juices, cheese selections, pastries, cereal, oatmeal, pancakes and more. Lunch was mediocre and one of our only complaints. There were not as many options - burgers, hotdogs, pizza, grilled chicken. At any point, either at the pool, beach, or meals, you can order any type of drink. They will even bring you lunch items to the beach, which is right there next to the pools. The staff was exceptionally friendly and went above and beyond to accommodate our every need and want. I needed a medication when I got there and the manager in the lobby called the pharmacy and it was delivered in 15 minutes. I speak just a little Spanish and my fiancé speaks none, but everyone there speaks English. Also, you don't have to convert your money. I made that mistake, thinking we would need pesos, but almost everyone used USD both in and outside of the resort. We booked two excursions through AMSTAR. One was a day trip to Saona Island and the other was zip lining. For both, the transportation was on time. For Saona island, it took us about 1 hour to get to the port and then we took a catamaran ride (1.5 hours) to the island. They provide rum and Coke, music and dancing. We stayed on the island for about two hours, where we ate lunch that was provided. There is not a lot of water there, so I would recommend bringing a big bottle for the day. After the island, we took a speed boat back about 20 minutes to see starfish in their natural habitat. Beautiful. From there we took the boat another 20 minutes back to the port and then the bus ride back. The zip lining was also really cool. It just took a long time to get there. For both excursions, you have to pick up guests from other hotels and that ended up adding an hour plus to the total travel time. So to get to the zip line sight, it ended up taking us about 2 - 2.5 hours. They don't provide lunch, but did provide water, soda, pineapples and coconut afterwards. Both guides for the excursions were very helpful and knowledgeable. We only wished we had more time at the resort itself! We were there Monday through Friday, which left us with three days of actual "vacation." I was worried about all inclusive but it was so worth it!
