Hotel Marina El Cid
If very good was a category in the rating system, a couple of the excellent ratings would has been given very good. Regarding the beach rating, there was an unbelievable amount of seaweed washing up all day every day. This is nature and should not reflect on the hotel. However, the water at the beach is loaded with rocks. This makes it very difficult to experience the water.
CHECK IN DESK STAFF
After a long day of travel (due to weather) we were happy to finally arrive at the Resort. We are a married couple and clearly had booked an upgrade to a Junior Suite with a king size bed through our travel agent and Apple Vacations (we had proof of same on our itinerary). Upon check-in, we were advised by the desk staff that there were no Junior Suites with king size beds available as the hotel was full and that for the evening we would be in a room with two double beds and perhaps be moved the next day. After much back and forth and an argument we were provided with a Junior Suite with king size bed which mystically appeared in their computer system!
Not satisfied with apple service
We have been using apple for almost 20 years & this is the first time ever that the service was horrible. They couldn't find our reservation at the airport. 30 mins later they finally did. Oscar at the hotel was the worst!!!! He was never there to help us. Also there was no apple party at the hotel. We look forward to that on every vacation & it's always been fantastic. Very very disappointed that there was nothing! Even though we have never had a problem with apple before after this trip we will be looking for another company & no longer recommending this company to our friends & family
Pool and beach
The beach walking into the ocean was full of rocks that part was very disappointing and go in the water at all. Someone had a bow movement in the pool and the staff did nothing about it
A great hotel, good food, pools and staff. Only complaint is the reserve too many chairs for the "Platinum Members" that they are not even using. Beach is great but ocean is rocky.
Five star resort
Gorgeous resort! Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent, with many choices for both kids and adults. The only drawback is the ocean in front of this property is extremely rocky with lots of seaweed.
The hotel was over booked so we were unable to get in a room till after 4 and that was only for 1 night. We then had to be out by 12 and couldn't get into the new room till after 3 on Monday. We were told we were getting an up grade to an ocean view but the 2nd room was not better. Our free mini bar was never filled and our Apple rep was no help. If this was our 1st trip to Mexico I would never go back. There were more issues to lengthy to explain.
Rooms were great - large and very clean. Although the buffet was good, we found the specialty restaurants to be a little lacking. Very disappointed in the Mexican restaurant, as my 4 kids were expecting quesadillas and burritos, but the waiter didn't even know what that was. Pool was wonderful. Nightly entertainment was OK, but they need a bigger space as it is held in a small area by the pool and there were never enough seats. They could also use a stage, because the shows were very difficult to see.
The vacation was excellent the pool for the kids was awesome! The food is fantastic every night something different I will go back to this hotel.
Marina El Cid ~ AWESOME!!!!
Food could have been a little better, pool water was freezing but everything else made up for it! AWESOME experience.
I don't understand why it was so difficult to make reservations at the restaurants; they only allowed one reservation per day, and it seemed that the three restaurants on the property were always booked. When we did eat at one of the restaurants, they were only 1/3 or so filled.

First Time & Not the Last
This was our first time at an all-inclusive and in this part of Mexico, we stayed the last week of March. Our concierge, Jonathan, was very helpful and our room was great, view was beautiful. Service was all around great and although it was spring break and crowded in some areas and pools during the day, the entire resort, including their higher end resort, Ventus, never seemed overcrowded. My two teenage daughters had plenty to do and plenty of places to hang out, we loved all of the food choices. Highly recommend if it's your first time there to trust El Cid and the Pronatour folks there - sign up for their tours first before you book others separately. Some things I found separately, didn't always come to the hotel to pick you up but the tours they book you, your rides are always secure. The infinity pool in the morning was great for lap swims and gym, spa and other amenities great. Can't wait to plan our next trip there in a year or two.
We enjoyed our stay at El CID. The resort overall was clean and staff was pleasant. Especially the pool activities staff. They were great and kept everyone entertained all afternoon. Grounds are very pretty, rooms were average, pools awesome!
Your concierge does try to get you to agree to a time share tour for discounted activities, but once we said no several times at check in they never bothered us again.
Reservations were not hard to make and we got to eat all the restaurants. French, Seafood & Italian were our favorites. Buffets were fine but not my favorite. If you have a food allergy they are not very helpful and nothing is labeled at all. They do not have any Gluten free bread or rolls.
They do have GF muffins if ask at the main lobby buffet.
Oh- the beach had a a lot of seaweed and rocks so we stayed at the pool most of the time.
Overall a great trip and we would return.
April visit with family
my son, 9, husband and I went April 13 for 5 nights. It was wonderful. Our son's first time to Mexico - we opted here since he was Free to stay!
Room 19409 was great (bldg 19) because we purchased standard room and got an ocean view with this room!!! you can see cruise ships beyond and other boats and see the cliff rocks from the pool.
Maid service was always great items stocked well. Safe worked good. There is an elevator in the each bldg.
Seafood restaurant at the marina - WOW. download the app and reserve your table a week before! we only got to go here once because I did download the app. (unless you like to eat at 9 and you can get a table then!) We recommend the tuna tacos, chowder soup, mahi mahi, steak and seafood ceviche.
The Mediterrean/Asian restaurant was great too. the soup there is great along with the steak, lobster linguini and seared shrimp.
The buffets are great and the MARKET is wonderful! what a variety there! Steak, fajitis, burgers (ok), chicken, Asian, pasta, sushi, desserts...
we think the food was wonderful here!
Bar service was always great. Hands to Angelica! She is stationed at the Bar (with the 3 swings) on the beach from 5-10 or 11pm. She is so so nice, will teach you Spanish phrases, talk about whatever! She has been there for 7 years. I would come back just to see her.
Lobby bar can make a killer chocolate mint martini and dry martini.
We did not see any entertainment. we were so relaxed and busy in the activities pool and by the time we stuffed ourselves at night, we were hitting bed by 8-830 (lol)
Delphenis is right by - go later in the day and get more time with the dolphins with less people! :)
Iguanas are everywhere by the Marina! everywhere! We saw one on the resort. there are about 8 hammocks near the activities pool/beach bar swing area.
We did not venture to the Ventus pools as there is no shade there and well, we loved the activities pool
Waterslide- its rough! it swung me everywhere when I went down (laying down). I didn't try it anymore. The same for my 9 year old little boy. Other kids were sitting up going down it, they seemed ok. Just not for us. We like plastic type slides. This was concrete. There is a mini waterslide, maybe 8 feet long, for the toddlers.
Cliff pool rock - my spouse and kid liked it. they did it once.
My little boy liked the mini cliff - its in the activities pool, just below the bigger cliff kinda, and he jumped and jumped off of it.
Volleyball in the pool is going on a lot during the day, daily water aerobics - it was fun, beer drinking contest in the pool once, soccer shootout in the pool once, the staff is amazing. they seem to enjoy their jobs.
I like the El Cid Marina yellow bldgs., just has a more Mexican atmosphere v. Ventus white crisp bldgs. But it was all so beautiful.
If you are looking to swim in the ocean, this is the resort for you. The workers removed seaweed daily, daily, daily. it just comes back over and over. they work hard. But this area is the world's largest 2nd coral reef. beautiful views.
Would I come back if I got a good deal - Yes. We just love to venture and see different resorts and stay everywhere. Our 10th time to Mexico - Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, area.
My family and I have now made 4 trips to this particular resort. In the past, the food was only OK at certain of their restaurants, but this time it was excellent! The beach needs some attention in spots, but this really is an excellent destination, regardless of your age.
Well Maintained Resort and Attentive Service
Each year we visit Hotel Marina El Cid and consistently enjoy a relaxing time away with great service. All the staff worked very hard to make sure that our time was enjoyable. The resort is always very clean and the rooms well-appointed. Thank you to the maid service multiple times daily keeping our rooms well kept. We enjoyed waking up to the sounds of the ocean and we appreciated the well-maintained, lush grounds around building 15 and other parts of the hotel. I very much enjoyed the hydrotherapy at the spa and the massage on the beach. We also enjoyed snorkeling on the reef leaving from the hotel Marina.
We particularly enjoyed the new Mercado Restaurant for a variety of food options that were very tasty. We went to the Mercado Restaurant for dinner as well and also enjoyed the coffee shop with the outside seating in the morning for a light breakfast before hitting the beach or pool. Mercado is a very nice addition to the hotel complex. We enjoyed the expansion of nightly entertainment options as well.
I would like to give a big shout out to our butler, Jose' for making sure that our stay was comfortable. We appreciated how attentive and polite he was and how he made sure that my parents were able to get around the resort for dinner with building to building transportation. We have requested his friendly assistance on future stays.
Some suggestions to consider:
Offer some umbrellas at the adult pool area at Ventus.
Change the status of the whirlpool outside buildings 14/15 to adults only- Too many kids for a whirlpool.
Have building 21 and 22 return to the Marina section of the complex.
Offer a food court dining experience to the Marina side of the complex.
Have heated pool options for cooler times of the year.
