Wedding Anniversary Trip Disappointment!

We were terribly disappointed with our experience. The first room we were provided had mold on the walls and a ceiling fan that made a grinding noise so loud you could here it down the hall. We were provided another room where the air conditioning never really worked but at least no mold. The first night of our stay a Spanish/English speaking woman with another person tried to enter our room. My husband jumped up and went to the door and I would assume after hearing our voices, left very quickly. The power went off at least 3x a day if not more with one occasion our room was without power for 4 hours. Try running on the treadmill and that happens. Also, the television worked the first day in our room and not again. My husband and I along with the new friends we made at least one person in each family became ill from the food. I do not suggest any of the Riu's in Punta Cana as the complaints we had were similar to the complaints other Riu guests shared with us as they went on the same excursions as we did. Guests that we spoke to that stayed in other Hotel/Resorts there that also went on the same excursions as we did, did not experience power outages like our Riu did. The staff as in servers and bar tenders are absolutely sweet people. As for the front desk people, upon check out I wasn't even asked if I enjoyed my stay or told to come back and see them soon. Not even a thank you!!!!! There are several other resorts in Punta Cana I would suggest you look into just not the Riu's.

Worst hotel we have ever been

Wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone. The rooms stink and are very dated. Air conditioner doesn't exist and needs at least filter change. Many cockrochs in a room. Swimming pool tiles missing. Restaurant meals are poor quality. However staff are very nice and friendly. Disappointed with the hotel and definitely wouldn't rate 4 stars as Thomson claims it to be.

Remember the tip for beggars

I don't know where to start from, hotel design is great and staff are OK some of them as far as you tip them , but there is so many problems with this hotel. 1.electricty keep cutting out as result WiFi. 2.salad and sea foods must be kept cooler , 3.hotel need pet control as is so many cockrochs and other small insects as result on our first day I had over 15 bits. 3.swimingpool need lots of attention from broken pump to seramic 4. Beer lines must get changed as they smells, as result beer tastes awful from bar, 5. Beach needs to get clean from metal objects and left overs, cleanning sea weeds only isn't option. 6.room air conditioning needs filter change, they smell damp and when you turn it on. Smell of pee or waste water right way. 7.hotel front not by the beach other front entrance to the yard , they let waste water or something out after 8PM and that was disgusting, so many mosquitoes. 8.this was our wedding package holiday.on our arrival the room wasn't ready no bottle of champagne or anything welcoming so I complained and they upgraded our room. 9.the day of our wedding nothing was prepared for us not even the room till 20min to ceremony people rushed in. 10.during ceremony music cut off as result of power cut. 11. No smoking area in restaurant 🍴, people was complaining and staff wasn't care. 12. Staff are very rude in restaurant if you don't tip them, they remove glasses in front of us and put it on table next to us for new people. Which for both parties was strange and rude. Over all our wedding packages was so expensive for service we got. Do your research before getting married in here. Pictures tricked us big time.

Don't be fooled by first impressions.

I had to stay here overnight. My flight to Jamaica had to be diverted. Driving up to it looked amazing but I was soon brought back down to earth with a bump. The room I was given was disgusting. I wouldn't let my dog stay in it. I'd been put in what I can only describe as the basement. It stank of must, mouldy and stagnant water. Everywhere felt damp. The chairs the bed even the sheets they expected me to sleep in. I immediately asked for a room change there was no way I was sleeping in that room especially as I didn't know exactly how long it would have been for. I was then given a room on the first floor it was better but still smelled bad but not as bad as the first room. The decor is very out dated. The foyer looked ok but a good clean and a lick of paint wouldn't go amiss. I didn't try the food so I can't comment. What I'd already seen had put me off. There's maybe four or five Rui hotels together I can't comment on the others again I can't comment on. But if this one is anything to go by I'd stay well clear. It's a dirty nasty stinky hole.

Awesome staff

This was my first time to an all inclusive resort and I was wondering if I would like it or not. But the staff at this place was simply amazing. The front desk man ramando (sp) helped us with anything we needed. Then at the one breakfast/ lunch buffet area a waiter named Raul went above and beyond everyday to help us and to also entertain us. He was a blast!!! The bar tenders at the pool area, Christian,Victor, and Gregory took care of us all week and also entertained us. All of the staff had a smile and were very courteous even when they didn't understand us. ( I only speak English) but for the most part, they spoke decent English. I will be coming back to this place. The pool and beach were nice and clean. Rooms were nice and food was decent. Some of the the specialty restaurants weren't to my taste lol but I'm just not accustom to that type of food. Only down fall is there is only one beer brand available preaidente. Which isn't bad. But be prepared that's your only option for beer. But mixed drinks of all kinds!!! Again beer isn't bad, just don't expect any options lol. Thanks for a wonderful time. Hats off to the fine staff working here!!!
