The service in the buffet and Steak house were excellent, not so good in the Italian Restaurant. Everything pretty much was very satisfactory to us.

The maid service was good although we had to keep asking for wash clothes. If you use two they should replace two. The shower did not work properly. Half of the water came out of the shower and the other in the tub facet. Problems with the toilet flushing. Overall maintenance on the hotel was poor.

Did not feel safe
BONNIE B.
Feb 28 2018
Someone claiming to be housekeeping came into our room every night after 9pm even though we did not answer the knocking. She left as soon as she saw us. The front desk said it must be a mistake. We overheard other guests who had money missing out of their room safe. The door locks do not prevent entry as we bolted them nightly.

"The Grand Old Lady" what can I say about this place. All good. Although she is a little long in the tooth she still is a wonderful place to be! Staff take care of all your needs. Pool and beach are wonderful. The Apple reps on hand (Jose & Josue) were incredible and took care of any issues. This is the fourth time that we have been to this property and we always return!!

Not happy with the hotel

We did not receive the UPGRADED room we paid for...a JUCUZZI SUITE. We Ended up with a junior suite, and the sliding glass door could barly open, and could not look out of the balcony. After staying at 2 different RIU PLACE resorts in Cancun, our group of nine were very disappointed. The food was not good, and did not enjoy it as we did at RIU PALACE LAS AMERICAS, and the year before at RIU PALACE PENNISULA. Also all nine of us became sick and suffered with dirreaha....which never happened in either of the Cancun resorts.

cancelled flight

Feb 11 2018
Our flight out was cancelled wich resulted, in a stressful environment from the apple representative, and the hotel booking staff.Apple vacation was requested to send an e mail to the Riu hotel management, for a stress rate, by our travel agent, and jose our apple rep The e mail was never sent, wich resulted in our spending 325.00, for another night, as our flight had been rebooked, by jetblue for the following day, we spent, 4 hours of our 4ime, in the am trying to esolve the issue, there was only 1 apple rep, and he was extremelybusy, wich ment we had to deal with this on our own, maybe more than 1 attendant should be present to accomodate, your clients, we had insurance and are filing, a claim, hopefully we will get this resolved, in all the running, around trying to make calls to my bank, I slipped, and fell on the marble, and came home quite bruised, thankfully the rest of the trip, was great, and jetblue never dropped the ball

I felt that the room service for the mini bar was poor. It would take 2 phone calls (minimum) to get someone to replenish the beers. By day 4, they ignored the calls. I had no coffee packets in my room for the last day. We tried to play pool. After paying $3 for a game, there was no cue ball at any of the 3 tables. No one could help, and no one cared. Thought the rooms were due for an update. I have done 2 other all-inclusive vacations and the bedding was luxurious. Not this one.

The hotel had a nice location but definitely needs a face lift - the rooms smelled very musty and the bedding was old ( had to ask for a new bedspread ). Most of the staff at hotel was great - very friendly. Every morning at 9am there was construction on the floor above us - jack hammering is not the noise you want to hear on vacation. And they need a wider beer selection ( only had 1 ). Other Riu properties seemed must more updated so hope that will their remodeling later this year, it will be a nice place to stay.

Loved them all

My friends and I had a beautiful time! The service was great! The food and at the buffets was good. Not crazy about the Italian Restaurant- should have skipped! The tiramisu looked like a science experiment. Yuk! The night activities were very entertaining. Wished they had more dancing music after all that is what you expect when visiting the Dominican Republic. The staff phenomenal.

I hate writing bad reviews, but this was disgusting.

The staff by the pool/beach and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. I wish I could say the same for front desk. I was able to enjoy everything outside of my room, but by the end of my trip I was so sleep deprived that I just wanted to go home. When we were given our rooms, we got an ocean-view and were happy it was the last one available. As we walked to our room, we noticed mattresses against the walls in the hallway of our floor. At first I thought it was odd, but quickly realized that it could be a BEDBUG infestation. I called the front desk and confirmed my suspicions; I asked to be switched floors, but they said they couldn’t, because they were booked solid everywhere else. They assured me that my room was treated, had the mattress replaced, and had no bugs. Listen, I am not one to complain or make a scene at a front desk, so I took them at their word and tried to accept my situation. The first night, I piled on clothes and slept dying of heat because the air conditioner was faulty, but it was my fault that I put on so much clothes in fear of bedbugs. The second night I told myself it was all in my head and got ready for bed. I pulled back the covers and there it was- a bed bug crawling across the mattress to my spouses side. My spouse tried to convince me that it wasn’t a bedbug, but I pulled up a photo on google and it was, in fact, a bed bug. I went down that same night to front desk, but again they said they had no other rooms available and asked if I wanted the room treated. They said if I chose that option, I couldn’t go into my room for a few hours. The rest of my trip, I couldn’t sleep. I was constantly itchy and woke up itching on my arms and legs. In retrospect, I should have been more aggressive with my request to be switched rooms. People were checking in daily, so they had them. I should have been a priority, since I was already a guest, but I’m hate confrontations and so does my wife, so we just tried to make the best of it. To be honest, I was ecstatic when the trip was over. The grounds are beautiful and the staff everywhere else on the grounds were great, but who wants to sleep with bedbugs every night? It completely took over my entire vacation and I couldn’t believe the front desk was taking the information I was giving them so casually. I regret staying there and wouldn’t go back. My cousin and her husband came with me and their experience was far better. They fought for another floor and got one. Maybe my downfall is that I am too complacent and don’t like to argue or make a scene. I feel like I shouldn’t have to. This was my vacation, which I paid a lot to enjoy and didn’t. I was completely disgusted having to be in my room every night and even slept in my cousins for a night. The food, and especially the coffee, was great at the hotel. I just can’t see how anyone can have an infestation of bedbugs and be expected to be ok with it with no accommodation to another floor. It should have been common decency for a paying guest to be reassigned and reassured during their stay. I will never return to this hotel and I’m sure I won’t be the only one.

3rd time to this hotel and it was fabulous

This was my third time staying at this hotel. The first time staying in the new portion on the hotel. Check in was a breeze (even switched rooms as we did not want to be right on the corner first floor), room was very clean. We faced the water slides. I was concerned the night of the foam party that we would hear the music and we did not. Grounds were beautiful and very well kept. The Japanese, Italian and regular buffet were good - many options to choose from. The Jerk chicken by the pools was amazing! Pools were clean and gorgeous. Cabana boys were very friendly, but there could have been 1 or 2 more to keep our glasses filled a little more. The only problem was our room was cleaned really late in the day. One day we got back to our room at 4:00 and it still was not cleaned. I did call the front desk and someone came right away and was very apologetic. We did not get sick, though we used bottled water to brush our teeth and always used the hand sanitzier at the restaurants. Entertainment was good.

Can't wait to go back!

This trip was a friends get away and we had a BLAST! When we arrived we were greeted with smiles, cocktails and a fantastic front desk receptionist by the name of Elizabeth! She was so happy and willing to help us out with all of our needs! I was amazed at how many different swimming pools they had at this resort. If you're into the "party scene" then I would suggest going to the swim-up bar by the water slides. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN and the bartenders there ARE TOP NOTCH! The water slides are a great addition to the resort! You're never too old to enjoy some fun!! We never went to the other pools, so I'm not able to give reviews on those but they seemed fine. We went to the beach everyday, it was very nice and enough loungers for everyone. Spa: it was nice, not the best (only because I didn't read what I was getting) but we enjoyed it on the beach. The only real complaint that I have is that other people (non workers) didn't care what was going on and they would just walk up to the hut and start talking and asking questions. So if you want to enjoy peace and quiet, do the inside spa or maybe try the night spa they have on the beach. Food: Not the best I've ever had on vacation, but I didn't starve. As for the walking around the resort....people you need to realize you're going to have to walk while at a resort......QUIT complaining about it. It's not that huge of a resort, you're not going to die from walking. The night life is GREAT!! The shows they had while we were there were so entertaining and suitable for all age groups! I can't wait until my next vacation to Punta Cana because I would book this place again....hopefully this time with more friends! :)

I must say I was so nervous going to this resort after reading all of the bad reviews!! It was a well-lived in resort needing a little TLC which it is receiving! We're not picky people coming from redneck country! :) The resort was always kept clean and the staff was AMAZING and always so friendly from the front desk to the bartenders!!! We hit it off with Michael in the main dining the first night and he treated us like royalty the rest of our trip! I never ran into anyone who didn't give us the time or day if we didn't know their language! With this being our first trip to the DR, we didn't know what to expect with the weather. It was never too hot as the wind blew almost every day. OCEAN: The ocean was fun to play in! Not too rough, but enough you could ride the waves with boogie boards!! As far as WiFi goes, we were able to use it at the beach! We loved it to post pics to make everyone back at home jealous! Ha! FOOD: Food was pretty good! One day they had a special setup for lunch at the restaurant by the beach with BBQ! It was AMAZING! We ate at the Japanese restaurant once and the Steakhouse twice! The Steakhouse was our favorite! WATER PARK: Another favorite was the Water Park!! It was a little walk to it and it was well worth it! NO LINES and us adults felt like kids again!! Warning......you will be digging your suit out of your crack on the straight slides! HA! The toilet bowl one was our least favorite! FYI: Make sure you don't wear a watch, earrings or necklaces! They will not let you go down with them on and you will have to climb all the way down and then back up again! They have cups/pop fountains there for drinks. BEACH: If you love palm trees as much as I do, you will be in HEAVEN! Such beautiful scenery! The beach was out of this world! So soft!! We would definitely come back to this resort! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
