Ok, so let me start saying that I have been in Punta Cana for about 6 times. All in different hotels/chains. I love all inclusive for the hassle free meals and ease of access/etc. This hotel is very impressive from a structure point of view (exterior). Even Lobby and grounds look impressive. However, the turn down are the rooms. They are in a desperate need of renovation. Riu Palace Punta Cana is located within the Riu hotels in Punta Cana, a total of 5 hotels, all in the same location. Once you pass the main entrance (gate), you are entering the Riu property. Here you can find: Riu Macau, Riu Palace Bavaro Beach, Riu Bamboo, Riu Naiboa and riu Palace Punta Cana. All of the 5 are different hotels in terms of offerings and concepts, but Riu Palace Punta Cana is the most expensive/complete one. You will quickly find that Riu Bamboo was recently renovated and it looks very different from the other 4 hotels, very modern and new (opened in July 18). If you stay in Riu Palace Punta Cana, you can access all 4 others, use the pools and even eat lunch only (not breakfast nor dinner). You can't do the same if you stay in any of the other 4 hotels as they are cheaper than Riu Palace Punta Cana. So going back to the rooms, they are dusty and very, very , very old/dated. Mattress is a NIGHTMARE. I spent 4 days and I slept for about 5 hours day, not more. Mattress is the hardest one on earth, horrible!!!!...Housekeeping is poor, poor, poor...Sometimes room and bed was made and coffee maker was not even washed from the other day. Bathrooms, especially bathtub was always dirty and shampoo dispenser did not work. Food is average. Nothing fancy, nothing superb and nothing remarkable. I did enjoy La Altagracia Restaurant and the Lobster Tail (small though). Only restaurant with AC was the Italian and Brazilian. Brazilian rest was good, Italian did not even try as menu was about 6 plates, very limited. All others restaurants have NO AC, so a lot of insects even on the buffet bar. Drinks are TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE super terrible. NO INTERNATIONAL DRINKS!!! Only local ones. I spent my 4 days drinking "Sunrise frozen", the only drink I found acceptable lol. If you can bring your own whisky/etc do so, take advantage of the great prices in the Duty free at the airport and make your vacation worthy! Pools are good BUT very old, even waterline was missing from several areas making the pool looks cheap and dirt. Beach is OK. Water park or "Splash Park" is a trap. It is located far from Riu Palace Punta Cana and close to the others (macau and bamboo). NO SHUTTLE AVAILABLE FOR THE WATER PARK, WALK IS ABOUT 15 minutes and NO FOOD THERE, just water and sodas. NO ALCOHOLIC DRINKS IN THE WATER SPLASH either. Staff is friendly and always willing to help, this is the most remarkable thing of this hotel along with the fact that it has a lot of nightlife. Emilio, Paul, and others were amazing. Overall, this hotel is not up to the standards of others I have visited before. I would say this is the last option for Punta Cana. Actually, Riu chain entirely is not recommended for Punta Cana.

There are good things and bad things about this hotel. Mainly the language barrier is the biggest challenge especially if you have any type of food allergies. We had a very difficult time communicating my son's nut allergy even I made sure our Travel agent was aware (they didn't notify hotel) and with it written in Spanish. The food is average best place to eat is Kristol. Due to the lack of communication my son was very limited to what he could eat. The beach is the best part of this resort. There is no ATM so have a lot of cash, it's difficult to get simple things like extra pillows or blankets. Will not stay at a RUI again.

We had two rooms next to each other which were both beautiful, big and clean. We had the added luxury of a Jacuzzi bath on a upper level of the balcony for no extra charge. It was my mums birthday while we stayed and when she returned to her room there was balloons, petals, champagne and cigars on her bed. Lovely touch. Food was good, resort was really nice. Staff were all really friendly especially the pool bar guys. Its worth taking a walk down the beach and trying out some of the other Riu places for lunch. Would 100% return. Loved every minute.
