Plating Vacation and Sandos Caracol
MICHAEL P.
Aug 31 2017
I would like to start by saying that the Apple team was very helpful and professional. Whe we arrived at our hotel, the room we were given did not have the King bed we had paid for and chosen. We were promptly moved into a room with a king bed. Unfortunately that rooms sliding door was broken. It had a large gap on the sidecar that didn't move. Because there were storms, we had water coming in and had difficulty sleeping due to the noise. It took several requests to get someone there to repair the door. It wasn't till day 3 that it was repaired. As a matter of fact it frequently took several requests to obtain sometas simple as orange juice. When we went to visit the Apple desk to arrange our transport back, the roof was leaking quite a bit. I felt terrible for the representative. Despite these problems we did enjoy the resort. The entertainment was wonderful and the food was good. I hope this review helps to improve some of the problems we experienced. Thank you Diana and Michael

Upon check in, we were NOT informed of the hours of the restuarants, how to make reservations for the restuarants, how to find them or any information on the resort, a general overview or anything. We sis check in late but no matter what time, we should be informed upon check in. We missed out on several opprotunities do do the eco tours and activities because we did not know where the booth was. Were unsatisfactory check in experience

Check in took about 45 min. We asked to be near the other family we travelled with and we were 2 buildings apart. Maids did not clean our room 2 of the days we stayed. The resturants have adult only evenings making it unfair for families that are there. The pools were not clean and were very hot to swim in. The bars closed early.

Disappointed All-Around this Trip with Apple / Resort
MICHAEL W.
Jul 14 2017
Overall, very disappointed in both this resort and Apple representatives during this trip. We booked a Royal Elite Penthouse (which the site indicated was ocean-view). We got to the hotel & to our room where we could see only large trees. We went back to the front desk & were told that there were no ocean-view rooms at the resort. We talked to Apple back and forth for days, who finally admitted that their description on website was wrong but didn't offer anything while we were at the resort. We have to reach out to Apple / Travel Agent (AGAIN!) after returning home. There was absolutely nothing special about the Royal Elite section - took forever to get in touch w/ room service, wifi barely functioned, and the Royal Elite section of the beach did not allow children although children are allowed in the Royal Elite section of the hotel. So, other than that huge disappointment, the main pool was dirty. Just lots of 'stuff" floating on top of the water. There was a clean, smaller pool but it was surrounded by construction everywhere & construction noise. Restaurant service was slow & so was bar service. There definitely were not enough bartenders at this resort. Pluses: Resort photography was great. If I would've known I would've booked a family photo session. The Japanese restaurant was good (& fun!) - recommend making these reservations as soon as you arrive. Food was actually pretty decent at all of the restaurants although it all seemed to be the same food. We take at least one, if not two, Apple trips a year and we were overall disappointed in this experience and the response from Apple Vacations.

The resort grounds were wonderful to explore, with lots to see. The cenotes are amazing! Our stay was great until the last few minutes when we were locked out of our room. Victor, the concierge, was very helpful. He made sure we got to the airport on time. And Angel, from maintenance was also very kind despite our language barrier.

Our stay at Sandos Caracol Eco Resort

My grandson, his girlfriend and I had a wonderful time at this resort. I read numerous reviews prior to leaving and I am glad I didn't base my decision to stay at this resort on some of them. The room was exceptionally clean, bathroom was spotless and have no complaints on the room what so ever. The grounds are beautiful, numerous paths to take for walks but somewhat confusing at first. Found a lot of little things to see on those little lost journeys including lots of animals. The beach area was very nice, the water had rocks but we liked it. Lots of shells to dig for around the rocks. The food in the buffet was satisfactory, certainly had enough choices for everyone to find something. We didn't reserve at the Japanese restaurant early enough to get in, but thought I would check at the desk as I was walking by, and a couple was cancelling 3 of their 12 spots. So we were able to enjoy the spectacular Hibachi Chef show as he prepared our meal. The food was absolutely superb, it was the highlight of my trip...Thank you Sandos Caracol Resort!!! Now I will state my only disappointment and that was the night time entertainment. The shows were all Mayan related or for children. I enjoyed the outside fire show, but it was a little long and seem to be repetitive type dancing. I was hoping there would be some adult type music/shows available but they didn't have any, so there wasn't much to do at night. All in all, I really enjoyed this resort and it was a perfect choice for my grandson and his girlfriend and their first time to Mexico.

Room for improvement

Let me start out saying this was our second stay at Sandos. When you read the reviews that check in is a nightmare believe it, they just don't seem to care about improving it. The things that go wrong do so everyday. Food run outs like kids pizza, frozen slushes and ice cream machines run out daily and they don't plan for it. The pool opens at 8:00 everyday but they don't start cleaning until swimming has started. The pool chairs have bird poop everyday and they are never hosed off.last year we had large rooms with clean bathrooms but upgrades this year were dirty and had mold on ceilings. The children love the shows and water park but resort has declined.

This got to be the worst hotel ever. There no customer service at all. I hear of island time but does not mean service should be island time. The worst is the Brazil steak house. The service was the worst and staff are rude for the best restaurant at the resort it sure did not live up to the name.

Amazing hotel apart from mosquitos!!!

We returned on the 13th September from a 2 week stay at this hotel. Amazing hotel with all of the animals going about etc, from monkeys in the trees to raccoons at night time!! The staff go above and beyond to give you the best customer experience, we especially felt Roy in the sports bar (amazing shots and cocktails), Elizebeth also in the sports bar, Rubicel on the pool bar and all of the entertainment staff went above and beyond! They work long hours and always have smiles on there faces!!! We loved the entertainment at the pool which was great not just for kids but for adults aswell! There was always something happening! The nighttime entertainment was also very good! Jesus, Daisy and all the other entertaimenet staff were brilliant!!! The food was lovely also, buffet at breakfast and lunch got abit repetitive (all inclusives do though), but the choice of food in the al a cart restaurants were just amazing for it being all included in the price! Especially the teppinyaki and steak and fish restaurant- AMAZING!!! The choice of activities within the hotel was brilliant also as it was included, we snorkelled in the cenot and in the blue river! Our room was basic but was always immaculate and clean!! The only downfall from his hotel was the amount of mosquitos there was due to it being in a jungle setting, whilst we were there it rained a few days over the 2 weeks and we were covered from head to toe despite being sprayed with all the protection! Also the smells in certain parts of the hotel whilst walking around, as it was a jungle and there was little swamps around through the trees this was strong smelling and pretty disgusting, however this is nobody's fault! The good definitely outweighed the bad and we had an amazing 2 week holiday!!!

Happy holiday, happy couple 👫

Where to start? The title says it all. We have been back in old blighty 2 days, but it seems such a long time ago we were at the Sandos, talk about a crash down to reality. If you want paradise, Sandos is the closest we have come to it and we have been to some beautiful places in the world. 😀 I have been reading the bad reviews on here about it, to be perfectly honest I'm glad I didn't read them before I went, as i would never of gone. People really are moaners, it's a jungle, there are going to be mosquitoes!! I have to say the mozzies here are on speed and steroids, wow they drive you insane, I'm forever reminded of my trip to Mexico as I have scars, well worth it though. Helpful hint take plenty of insect repellant with you. They have repellant stations on pump at the resort, but they are rubbish. It's worth spending the money on some good ones. It was mentioned in some reviews that there was a bad smell of sewage on the the beach, they may have been referring to the smell of the seaweed on the beach, which stank. But you couldn't smell it all the time. I can't believe people have complained about the large rocks going into the sea. Jeeeeesh. The rubbish thats everywhere on the beach, I didn't see one drop of rubbish whilst I was there. As it's an eco resort, everything natural is left untouched... Including rocks and seaweed! I don't know what people were expecting. The check in experience was a little in the chaotic side, although there were about 10 people on reception, none of them seem to know what they were doing or could organise themselves, but they managed it in the end. We were taken to our room on the back of one of their numerous electric golf buggy things (when I say numerous, I mean many, far too many) Our room was spacious, clean, cracking A/C (an absolute god send, with the humidity and heat) plenty of towels, complimentary slippers (you'll need them if you don't like sand/bits off feet in bed) dressing gowns, your shower gels, soaps, shower cap and toothbrush. Small fridge which is stocked with some cans of beers (which we didn't drink, too hot for alcohol) and a small selection of soft drinks. They tell you the fridge is stocked every other day, but it isn't. The chap with the complementary drinks and snacks trolley (who is called arturo. I think that's how you spell it) he will stock your fridge with as little or as much as you want, provided it's on his trolley. He is always grateful of a good tip. What a lovely bloke he is, Sandos did well to hire him. There is a 24 hour snack bar which serves the same food every day, which if you're hungry and you need to eat, that's your place. It's opened planned with no walls, so, lots of wildlife also like to dine there, birds, raccoons, cats, coatis it's very amusing watching them. Wildlife everywhere, the spider monkeys are the most comical as they are so friendly and cheeky. They have many cats, which one adopted us, we called him stanley - he ended up sleeping on our bed every night. There are so many restaurants to choose from, but our favourite was the Italian and steak & fish restaurant, if you get there for about 6pm you don't have to wait, but they do get very busy. There is plenty of activities to do, we didn't manage to do everything, but we did manage the romantic boat ride on the cenote, Nester , our guide was very informative, he told us all about the cenote and its history. He was just lovely. Thank you Nester. We didn't go to the aquapark as we are far too grown up for that sort of thing. 😀 but I'm sure the younger generation would love it. The main pool has a swim up to cocktail bar and has activities on most mornings with music. I have probably left a whole heap of stuff out, but I definitely want to say thank you to Aida on reception who checked us out, she was very efficient and got us back into our room after we left something in there. She was an absolute star. Thank you Aida. All in all an amazing holiday, one we won't forget in a hurry. Keep up the good work guys!! ❤

Accurate reviews! Something for everyone.

Traveled in September as a Girls Getaway - we had multiple rooms, some opted for Select Club some did not. It did make a difference. For adults there are bars, pools and facilities for Select Club, and despite offering to pay the difference, some of our group were restricted from entering the Select Club areas - and we had to choose between separating our group or going to non-adult areas...keep in mind when booking your vacay. The rooms were comfortable, eco service means conservation - so the showers were cool consistently, rooms were tidy, bars were stocked, service was great (Thank you Roger for being our driver around the facility for nearly the entire stay!) , check in and out was a little clunkly but bearable. The food is admittedly not 5 star cuisine, but it is an all-inclusive, if you seek out standards that are done well you won't be let down - the steak at the Brazilian place was good, the buffets were plentiful, we did not have any issues here, we hit a few meals that were not outstanding, but it may have been poor choices, and there is always a decent salad bar. The Mexican buffet had spotty hours, and was closed for the majority of our stay, however the occupancy was low, and they likely were conserving, we would have preferred the Mexican buffet to remain open versus one of the others, as it was one of our groups favorites! Tacos as Ten! The only true negative was a particular restaurant host that was quite nasty to our laides group. Only one restaurant required reservations during our stay, we had a few ladies that were 15 to 20 minutes late, for reasons completely out of their control. The Host (a gentleman) was obviously put out and extremely nasty to our ladies group. He could have suggested numerous workarounds, however, we ended up being pressured into rushing our order and feeling belittled by this person. It was to have been our most celebratory dinner for our group, we did celebrate, but it was diminished by this one particular person. We know he was looking out for other guests, however, in the process he made us feel much less valued as guests. Wifi can be spotty, but hey, you are in the tropics, and a very jungle like environment, so we accomodated. The grounds were great, literally something for everyone. Loved all the animals, hated the mosquitoes, but we were prepared for them - you definitely need repellent and/or the wristbands, both help abate the bugs. The beach area is beautiful, it is rocky - but there are many entry points without rocks, but you get lots of fish and snorkeling views that you wouldn't with less rocky beaches. Overall a great resort that ticks off all the boxes for an all-inclusive that adds value for a moderate dollar. For our girls getaway we may target an adults only resort in the future, but I would recommend this resort!!

Knew it was a eco resort and it was in some jungle but mosquitoes was horrendous. Took spray and also stations to use the mosquitoe gel but nothing worked. Check in also very badly manned took too long and very slow had to change room keys several times as they would not work. Disappointed that there was no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms having to go all the way to reception for a hot drink. Have to say the staff was very helpful and friendly..... but again would only say 3 star.

Loved our time at Sandos Cararol!

We just got back from Sandos Caracol Eco Resort. Loved it! First off, it IS an eco resort and we knew that when we booked it. We expected to be surrounded by animals, the jungle, the heat and yes, the bugs. We brought eco-friendly bug spray and didn't get bit too badly. The animals were SO much fun to see walking around. And it was hot, but again, it's the jungle and late summer, so we dressed accordingly. We stayed in the adults only section, which we loved. It was quiet. The resort is more family friendly, and the adults who stay there seem to want to relax and not party -- exactly what we wanted. Folks have said the beach is bad, but I don't understand why. Sure, there were some rocks in the water, but we still waded in and swam around just fine. The vegetarian restaurant was AMAZING, but the rest of the dining options were just OK. With the buffets and restaurants, you can tell the resort is just trying to make everyone happy, offering a bit of everything. There was no real, authentic Mexican food anywhere, which was a little disappointing. I also never saw an actual avocado, which was also disappointing. The room was spacious, and very clean. It was perfect for us. The service throughout the resort was quick, and all the workers were very friendly. If we plan another trip to Mexico, we'll definitely stay at Sandos Caracol again.
