Terribly Disappointed in Apple Vacations and Riu Management Services
Just wanted to let you know we are home from our trip safe and sound. I want to apologize for sending you that message last Saturday night. Not sure why I contacted you or what I thought you could do at the time I was just totally freaked out and upset. It was an awful night. I am just very thankful that Brian is ok. It was a terrible fall due to the flooded room. There were a couple inches of rain water on the lower level of the room. I was mainly concerned about his head.
I did try to report the whole incident to both the Apple Rep and to management and got no response from either. I was told at the front desk that management would be advised and would follow up with us. As of our departure we heard not a word! I truly think someone should have followed up with us on the situation. We were quite angry and disappointed in that fact. The Apple Rep had absolutely NO interest and actually told us he was "only there to assist us with any excursions we may be interested in and with our transfers." So much for thinking of the Rep as a liaison to assist travelers. I thank God that it wasn't worse than it was or we would have had no help whatsoever.
Sunday was pretty much a bomb because of Brian not feeling well at all from his fall. Although he did improve throughout the week, we really couldn't do too much as he continued to have headaches and a very sore neck the entire time. Actually his head and neck still hurt and I pray there are no long term effects. I am sure it is fruitless at this point but I do have everything documented in the event that I need to contact a personal injury attorney.
We did enjoy the gorgeous resort and the staff was impeccable! Our food and service were top notch! The seaweed was horrendous but of course that is no one's fault..lol.
All-in-all a good trip with some good and some bad. Maybe not quite my trip that I wanted but I did enjoy. Although we did love the resort itself, we would probably not go to a Riu again due to the lack of response or concern for our safety and tragedy that occurred in the flooded room. I am going to contact the resort itself with this concern and review although it was obvious by the management's actions, reaction or lack thereof to my initial report to them that there was no actual concern. I plan to also advise Apple Vacations of their lack of concern or assistance in what could have been a dire tragedy.
Thanks for all of your help with everything! I hope you are doing well. I will definitely be in touch when decide to travel again.
Water in rooms is no potable
On the mirror, in the lower left corner is a small sticker that says the water is no potable I didn't see this sticker until day 3 of my visit. The hotel needs to place a sticker centered above each sink.
RIU Cancun not for me
The pool was not cleaned until the 5th day of our stay. First thing in the morning there were hair balls the size of tennis balls floating. I did not go in the pool 2 days as it was to gross. 1 day someone threw up in the pool so they closed it, and the next day someone defecated in the other pool, so it was closed. This is like a bad spring break hotel. The bartenders Maggie at the pool, and Rafael in the lobby are the only good thing in the entire place. They are to good for this resort. The elevators are horrible. We got stuck in it one day. The buttons did not work and if you push L it took you to floor 14. If you push floor 2 it took you to floor 12. Finally we got off and waited for another one to come. Other days I had to walk down the 9 floors since every elevator that came was full. You would have to wait 15 minutes minimum to get one you could get in to go down. The desk help was rude, no one says hello or good morning to you. We have stayed at RIU resorts more than 30 times, and in Mexico more than 30 times. This was one of the worst. Never again.
Love the Riu Palace
I won this trip from our local radio station, and I have been to Mexico and the Carribean many times. This is without a doubt the nicest visit yet. I cannot say one negative thing about any part of the stay, except that it was too short of a stay. From check in to check out, the staff could not be more accomodating. The food was excellent, including the buffet. The beds were more comfortable than I expected, so that is certainly a plus. I would highly recommend the Riu Palace, Riviera Maya.
I enjoyed everything on the trip
staff is the greatest
I have never seen a more hard working staff anywhere. They help you at every turn and wait on you hand and foot. They were just great.
door key issue
Had an issue with the door Key ..de-magnetize. Hotel did not seem to care...had to get apple rep to help..finally sent maintenance ....still unable to use key after 1 use...real pain to have to go get a key every time I wanted in the room
Very impressed by the great service and the granduer of the hotel
Very happy with the service, food and the beautiful hotel
This is our third at this property. We have enjoyed every time.the lobby is wonderful with good staff at the reception desk. Our room was the same as always. My biggest wish is that they replace the mattresses soon with some softer models. Not uncomfortable, but a bit hard. Fitted sheets would be an upgrade as well. The rooms are clean and service is great. AC worked fine. The pool seems a bit under underpowered. By that I mean the filtration system has a hard time keeping up near the pool bar. the water has a murkiness to it. The upper pool is much clearer. The beach is very wide and not to many vendors. There was a bit of seaweed this time that I do not remember from my previous visits. I was told it was seasonal. Food was plentiful and varied. The burgers had a bit to be desired but the rest was great. As for lunch the beach grill had very limited options I suggest go the main restaurant for lunch. Cool and quiet with more food options. Did the sunset sail excursion offered at the apple desk. Very nice. Als we opted for the extra cost private transfer. I strongly suggest this. Quiet and efficient and best of all, you do not have to arrive back at the Cancun airport 3 hours ahead of your flight
Best vacation EVER!
This is the most stunning property. It absolutely earns its name of "The Palace". Without exception, EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE had HUGE smiles on their faces and went out of their way to assure that our time there was second to none! The property is beautiful, the food was absolutely amazing and the service was nothing short of perfect. We will ABSOLUTELY be back. The entertainment was excellent, with a wide selection of genres, including a Michael Jackson show, an Elvis show, lots of dance and great enthusiasm!!!! We cannot adequately express how hard these people work to give you a great experience.
Wonderful second stay
Loved all but planning outings with GABRIELLA who worked with the Apple affilliated company. Was not notified when a trip was cancelled and reimbursement was a problem.

Loved this hotel.
Perfect location, beach, food & rooms. My second visit was over Easter. Frankly, there are too many kids at that time of the year. The pool is beautiful; as is this hotel. The lobby really looks like it is a Palace. Will definitely return.
Another awesome visit!
A wonderful vacation with friends. Everyone knows the resort needs a bit of a face lift so no need to dwell on that. Regardless, this place is still one of the best. A fantastic staff works this resort 24 hours a day to make sure guests enjoy their visit. We took a break from Mexico last year and visited the Riu Palace Aruba. A beautiful facility with a support staff whose lack of enthusiasm secured our return to the Riu Palace Riviera Maya in 2018. Poolside service in Aruba was pretty much non-existent. Poolside service this year was nothing less than stellar as it has always been. Victor and David were running all over the place at the pool to ensure all guests in their areas were taken care of. It was very much appreciated. Our group did tip but that did not gain us any extra service. All guests received the same top notch attention. These folks work extremely hard to accommodate all guests. Restaurants were as expected. We were serviced by Ivan in the main buffet. He was a wonderful young man who made sure all was perfect. We enjoyed visiting with him and getting the opportunity to know him. Did visit the Brazilian and Mexican specialty restaurants. Loved them both! Same dress code as in the main buffet and no reservations required. Walked right in to both at 7pm, no wait. The only real big issue and it was not anyone's fault, the seaweed. We knew about it when we booked. It was awful and the worst I have seen. I am not an ocean swimmer but if I was, I would have been totally disappointed. I use the beach for walking. I do 4 to 6 miles a day. The beaches are wide with soft white sand. I was not bothered by beach vendors and saw very few of them. As I said, the only issue was all the seaweed. The Riu staff members worked extremely hard to keep the waters edge clear but it was a losing battle before it began. I had some interesting conversations with a couple senior staff members. They told me this hotel was in line for a renovation in 2019. I voiced my opinion that they keep the traditional decor as is it now and not turn it into another Riu Palace Mexico which was updated a few years back. They said they were unsure what type of face lift would be done but have heard from many guests who hope they keep the decor as it is. They estimate the work would take about three months. Regardless of the outcome, we will return to this hotel. The people are the biggest reason we have visited three times in the last four years. Wonderful, wonderful people who are proud of their country and what they do for a living.
great hotel great beach awesome food
I recently stay at this resort in early april very nice location close to playa del Carmen on a awesome beach the resort was first rate great rooms good service and the food is fantastic cant wait to go back it was perfect
It is a very beautiful hotel with a very friendly and great staff. That was our first time at the Playa del Carmen location, although we've been twice at Riu Palace Pacifico.
We've been treated as royalty on that 10 days vacation. The staff is amazing, always eager to help and do the best for guests.
The sea was calm for entire period, however, with the wind change after 5 days came the seaweed. It's cleaned by the staff on a daily basis, but still might bother the swimmers from time to time. The sand is white and gorgeous, never been too hot to step on.
There are comfortable beach chairs and lots of shade under the palm trees. The food at Krystal restaurant is delicious so at the buffet. The selection at Chilli's wasn't so great but still good enough for the lunch. (I'd recommend to use mosquito repellent if dining there after 7 pm). I would like to express a special thank you to the following staff members who took a great care of us, THANK YOU!!!
Mr. Juan, El Kapitano - Krystal
Mr. Coco/Wilbert, El Kapitano - Chllii's
Mr. Jonathan, El Kapitano - Don Manolo
Chef from Krystal restaurant
Victor - Pool bar
Rafa - Buffet
Laura - Front Desk
Fernando - Lobby Bar
Fabian - Pool bar
Enrique - Lobby bar
Beautiful and nice place to stay...
At the recommendation of our travel agent we chose this resort and we are so glad we select this hotel. It is really a palace. Beautiful and nice view from the room. The food is very good and the night shows super. The waiters and staff are doing an excellent job, creating a very friendly atmosphere.
