Food was good. Staff friendly. Beach clean, water calm and clear.
Okay hotel for the price
Good hotel, wonderful staff, but bad food
Nice resort with mostly friendly staff. Beach was not good at all. You are only allowed to swim in small roped off area. Lots of large sharp rocks and seaweed. Unpleasant.
The bar at lobby Premier served awful drinks but lobby Coba and the pool by lobby Tulum had better tasting drinks. All had very little alcohol in them.
Food was great at every restaurant and buffet.
NOT THE PLACE TO GO IN AUGUST
We arrived at Grand Bahia Principe Coba about 8:00 PM after a 1 1/2 hour
ride from the airport. We checked in to our two rooms that were together.
When we got to the rooms the AC didn't work in 1 of the rooms.
It took the staff until midnight to check it out & get us another room.
It took several hours the next day to get moved from the other room to the room next to the new room. After that was done we went to the pool. It was HOT & only 3 feet deep. Then to lunch. It was HOT!! No AC anyplace you eat. AGAIN!!! NO AC ANYPLACE YOU EAT!!! IT IS 90 degrees & the humidity is 90 percent & NO AC DO YOU UNDERSTAND??? I STINKS!!!
One Happy Family
My wife and I visited the Coba resort for 4 days in 2006 and loved it. 2007 we went back for a week and then began to talk about the possibility of returning with our children (who at that time were 7 & 6 years old). In 2016 my wife and I returned without the children for 7 days. After the third visit it was clear to my wife and I that we needed to allow our teenagers, now 17 & 18 years of age, to have the same memories and enjoy the same experiences in your tropical paradise. This past June, the four of us experienced an incredible 10 day trip at the Coba. Every aspect of our stay was memorable. Words cannot categorize our happiness with our experiences at the Coba Resort. We could mention names of individuals who greet us every time we return but it wouldn't be fair to recognize a few when in reality the entire staff should be recognized for their consistent display of hospitality. Where on earth can you travel to a resort and when you arrive the staff remember your name and say "Welcome Home"? The answer is the Gran Bahia Principe Coba Resort in Tulum, Mexico!

Beautiful facility, fantastic food, friendly hard working staff. I highly recommend this hotel to couples and families. Wonderful experience!!
One of the best all inclusive hotels we have ever stayed at
Good food. Great environment. We flew into a tropical storm and the day after everything was perfect.
Not a 5 star hotel
We were supposed to be on a honeymoon we informed them of that and they didnít have anything prepared for us. We informed them upon arrival and were assured that they knew and the room was prepared. The mini fridge didnít work, the maid didnít clean the room and the ac didnít work as well.
no air conditioner in resturants , we sweated duringf dining at dinner time
hotel room very low cooling
We had a great time! This was the first time we traveled with our 4 and 7 year old abroad. The hotel was very welcoming to our family upon arrival and throughout our stay. We did get one of the family suites and the kids were welcomed with balloons and gifts and all of us were welcomed with comfortable bathrobes and slippers to use during our stay. The room was beautiful, clean and very comfortable for our family. The kids loved having their own little beds for once. We loved it too! The property throughout was very well maintained and staff was very friendly. The food was very delicious and there was so much to choose from that even our pickiest eater in the family was still able to find something she could enjoy eating. The array of food was wonderfully overwhelming because you could try bits of everything. The food was delicious and they did a wonderful job on presentation of the food as well. The pools were clean and well maintained. My kids absolutely LOVED the water park area and that was very clean and well maintained as well. That was a huge plus for our family! The entertainment was phenomenal. They had a show every night and they never disappointed. Our favorite was the Michael Jackson Show. The impersonator was so spot on and the show was magnificent! The all inclusive aspect of this trip made it so much more relaxing on our family. I couldn't be more pleased.
Trip July 2017
Fast Check in at Premier Club. No issues. Friendly service by Kennedy. Room nice and clean with welcome sign on the door. AC is decent working order. Premier Club Breakfast Buffet smaller variety however no lines. Buffet's at COBA and TULUM bigger variety however long lines. Food was good and nobody got sick. We ate everything including salads and fruit and drank the water the waiters served us including the ice. Buffets were inspected regularily by the Head Stewart and Head Chef with supporting staff. Everybody was wearing head gear and proactive masks for cleanliness. Decent variety of food. Plenty of veggies, fruit and healthy options. Snack bar food o.k.. Drinks were inconsistent and tasted different at every bar. Cocktail cart in the evening with waiter service added a nice touch. Trolley system was efficient although kind of a pain to get down to the beach, however we knew from the beginning what we were going to get ourselves into. So we knew what to expect. Food at the Med. Rest. not so good, Tuna was overcooked although ordered medium rare. Dinner at La Gourmet middle of the road, nothing special. The Italian Restaurant was good and we liked the antipasta buffet. The Service at the Brazilian Restaurant was not good however the meat was excellent. We had to ask numerous times for the waiters to stop with meat and they completed by-passed us on various different occasions due to a wedding party taking place at the same time. Place had a some what party like vibe although most people were on good behavior. Kids club and Kids water park was good. The beach was not good. Very rocky and lots of erosion. Tremendous amounts of sea weed which had to be removed with bull dozers and trucks. Room was stacked with daily water and coffee and if you left a little tip daily house keeping would keep you fully stocked and then some. Beach Chairs at both the pools and at the beach were hard to come by especially in the mid morning hours. Most people just put their towels down, - against hotel policy - and took off. We could have done without that. Overall we have the hotel high ratings in terms of food and cleanliness, check in/check out ( check out was 2 mins.) and Apple customers get very good treatment wit the Premier Club and special welcome dinner. Service at buffets was o.k. and you could see that the wait staff was extremely busy. In terms of beach we give the hotel very low ratings, - we recognize the hotel's efforts in fighting nature, and their efforts.

Outstanding resort and holiday destination but just falls short of 5 stars
We holidayed in riviera maya for two weeks at the Coba through first choice holidays. In this package we had all inclusive with 6 a la carte meals and full use of the facilities at both Coba and Tulum. The room was fantastic, exceptionally clean and spacious, we encountered a problem 3 days in with a leaking air con unit however within the hour the hotel staff had fixed the unit and cleaned up the water, technical problems like this cannot be predicted so we weren't annoyed but very pleased with the way in which Coba responded and resolved the issue. The numerous pools and jacuzzi pools offered a range of options from a quiet atmosphere to a party pool. All pools had a bar on site if not a swim up bar so drinks were readily available. Out of the buffet areas available we definitely preferred Tulum's as it is calmer, cleaner and a much more controlled environment with friendlier staff in comparison to Coba's buffet which in certain circumstances resembled a cattle market. The collectivo's between areas are fantastic with fun and friendly bellhops. If you go to the hacienda you can also get a collectivo to Akumal beach, for 25 pesos, which is a beach off site where you can swim with turtles for free, the beach was beautiful and swimming with the turtles was amazing. One thing to be aware of is locals telling you swimming with life jackets is mandatory and trying to rent them to you, this may be a scam but in all honesty you're snorkelling for a long time and having the life jacket is a useful aid. The 6 a la carte restaurants we chose were delicious, one issue we had was we'd made a reservation at tequila restaurant a week prior and when we turned up the restaurant was closed! We spoke to a member of staff nearby that sorted us a new reservation and lift to the alternative restaurant within 5 minutes, again a slight hiccup that was almost immediately rectified. The reason we feel the hotel just falls short of 5 stars is because of these little but easily preventable problems however we loved our holiday and encountered wonderful staff and locals that couldn't be more helpful or pleasant.
Third Time there and would return in a heartbeat
Just got back from Bahia Principe (Sept 13 - Sept 20) and is the third time we have been there
We after a 4 hour flight and a 1.5 hour bus journey, Our checkin in process was so smooth and quick even after having arrived at noon.
Since the check-in was so smooth we were able to book al ala carte restaurants right away. You get three bookings. We did this and got nearly every meal booked at a decent time, usually around 6pm. Medeterrean, JApanese and Michado.
The room is one of the best we have ever got ROOM 32423 it was very spacious all very clean. The room was located in the middle of everywhere, close to both COBA an Premier Lobby, close to almost all ala carte restaurants, close to the Theatre and very close to 2 main pools with swim up bars, the transport to the beach was right on the corner, best room we have ever got.
Just a quick note, we were told that Wi-Fi is only available for free in the lobbies, outside of that, you have to pay for it. However we were able to get wi-fi in our room, maybe it was expanded but that was a nice touch.
There are at least 3 pools to choose on the Coba site, They are kept clean and tidy, and were really easy to find and access.
Each pool has a swim-up bar, with a wide selection of both alcoholic and soft drinks, and all could also make a big selection of colourful cocktails.
The beach is really nice, although a bit rocky in some areas, making it hard to swim out too far. However other areas only had small rocky patches and turned into sand further out, making it easy to stand and see all the fish that swim by.
There were always a lot of empty sunbeds here, each of which are under shade, and can be moved into the sun if you want to move them.
There are also bars dotted along the beach, supplying drinks all day. Also one of the days we were there, the staff set up a small stand around 1pm until 3pm-ish that served different foods..
The food at this resort was amazing! At no point did we have an upset stomach or anything from the food, which is impressive since we had seafood of some sort pretty much every day.
The Kukulkan buffet is the best it has all kinds of food for all tastes very well prepared and amazing presentation, there was sushi, salads, Mexican food, fruit, fish, steaks, burgers, pizzas, chips, breads, soups, pastas, ice cream, desserts and an Asian counter.
At breakfast, you can get fruit, toast, empanadas, omelettes cooked to order, eggs cooked however you want, bacon, yogurts, breads and pastries.
There is so much choice even the most picky eater can find something to choose from..
Onto the a-la cartes we visited Each one was incredible! All the staff there were incredibly attentive and helpful.
The staff IS amazing everyone says hello and were always happy to help with anything. The bartenders were always happy to get us any sort of drinks, waiters/waitresses were working non-stop to clear tables and bring water/coffee/other drinks in the buffet.
The evening entertainment was really good. The shows were different each night of the week, but usually repeated each week.
For us the highlight of shows is the MExican Night which is on Thursdays, but we got lucky and were there for the MExican Independence where the show is about all the different Mexican cultures and one big party after the show.
There were very few downsides to this whole holiday, which are more specific to other guest rather than the hotel itself, IF there is one downside I did find that at one point I required medical attention and found that there is no onsite medical personell
Our first time in Mexico and we had a lovely time. Nice big room.
Good choice of food. Visited 3 a la carte restaurants, The Gourmet, the Italian one near the pool and the Japanese where we were on a show table. We found all the staff very friendly. The complex is easy to get around as you just get on a trollybus. They come very frequently. Loved all the animals around the complex. Beach was kept clean although some days they couldn't keep up with cleaning all the seaweed.
Don't bother bringing any mosquito spray. We did and it didn't work. Just buy the mosquito spray Off from the shop in lobby. It works.
Would recommend going to this hotel.
I have frequented many all inclusive resorts and must say this one is ranked the lowest. On the day of arrival the a/c in our room was not working. After calling the front desk twice and walking to the front desk two more times I realized I was getting the run around. I was repeatedly told that maintenance would be there in 20 minutes...fast forward 28 hours after almost passing out due to the heat we were finally changed to another room. We were told that a bell boy would be up to our room on the third floor (there are no elevators) to help with our luggage in 15 minutes. 90 minutes later we decided to walk it over ourselves, stopping several times and drenched with sweat we finally got it done. This property is not on the beach. You have to take a shuttle to the beach which isn't that bad because they come frequently. There are no elevators, so if you have back, respiratory, or mobility problems...this resort is not for you. The buffet is not very good however the specialty restaurant Mediterranean (not sure of the name) was very good. You do not have unlimited access to the restaurants ( you have to choose one), which was different from every other all inclusive resort I have ever been to. Get cash before you arrive. The atm charges a $17 for a withdrawal. If this is your first all inclusive experience you may not have any complaints, however if you are seasoned you will be able to spot the areas to improved upon (which there are many).
So we have just spent a week at the Coba.. and for the first 5 days we had a lovely time. Resort is very pretty and clean, rooms are spacious and looked after, food was great too. Entertainment not so great and how they call it a family hotel I'm not too sure as there were a lot of groups there. Anyway enough of the nice parts. Me and my boyfriend are currently on the way to another hotel after my boyfriend tried to help another vacationer and his cousin decided to start a fight. The man ended up hitting me and knocking me unconscious which of course then rattled my boyfriend. The security at the hotel were awful surrounding him with 6 men with batons when he was just sat there. I asked to get the rep which I was told by the security staff the girl was on her way which was a complete lie as the rep knew nothing until I got the the lobby dazed and confused and extremely upset and angry that my boyfriend had been taken to a jail. The staff at the hotel were unhelpful and clearly didn't care about the state I was in and how mentally upsetting the situation was. They told me my boyfriend would be back in a few hours, he wasn't. I was at the hotel alone and waiting in my room for news when 2 girls who were with the man who hit me knocked on my room door. Wanting to show me a video of my boyfriend and to see the state he was in, I declined and asked for them to send it to my rep to which they got very shifty and left telling me I had to pay to get my boyfriend out or he would be there for 72hours. Anyway went on go him he was in a terrible state and the other guy had been out for hours and threatneded to kill me and my boyfriend. Got back to the Coba and I went straight to the manager and said I wanted to make a complaint about the other guests and the lady at the hotel who was extremely rude and unhelpful to myself and partner to which Edwardo (I think that's the managers name) laughed in my face. I explained I had been hit by a man and knocked unconscious and that my boyfriend was being treated appallingly. The hotel also wouldn't take witness statements at the time from anyone from the UK who saw the whole thing but they did get statements from the other party. Went back to our room to pack as I didn't feel safe staying at the hotel to be greeted at our room by 2 guards I asked why they were there and they said no reason and then that they couldn't speak English. We got moved to the Akumal as apparently the other guest could not go to this lobby which isn't the case because he had a white wristband and you can get in anywhere. We stayed there the night but I wanted to go home as the way the hotel were was disgusting. In the morning we had a meeting with our reps and the hotel and for us to stay the Akumal wanted us to sign a document to say if there was trouble they could remove us, sounds fine as nothing would happen after all my boyfriend tried to help someone not start a fight. But other clauses they wanted to agree with were that we would not pursue legal action which of course we will. Because we would not agree to this as they basically wanted to wash their hands of the situation they said we had to go back to the Coba. I didn't want to and then the Coba said we could not go back as it wasn't safe. Currently on our way to another hotel altogether and the thomson reps have been amazing but 2days of our holiday are lost and neither of us can relax. It's such a shame because the resort and the majority of the staff are lovely but when it comes to management the place is a absolute joke, you do not laugh in anyone's face.
