A WONDERFUL experience
This was a late honeymoon for us and we absolutely loved our experience. Upon arriving the lobby is air conditioned and a cup of lemonade is offered to all guests. We were taken to our rooms, which are in great condition. we had a room that was really close to the El Tapitio restaurant, the pools, and the beach. We thought that the Maya buffet was better than the Lindo buffet, and we also appreciated the menu options. I ordered off the lunch menu there once and was very pleased with the food, and the buffet was always delicious. We visited the Japanese restaurant, the steakhouse, the mediterranean restaurant, and the gourmet restaurant. All of these restaurants offered great service and the food was also delicious. Our favorites were the gourmet restaurant and the Japanese restaurants. We would recommend always going to a la carte restaurants for dinner, as we preferred them to the buffet for dinner.
We also enjoyed the plaza area, we got crepes and ice cream one night and tacos when the main dining was closed and we were hungry.
The StarFriends activities are also great if you are looking for some exercise and are more of the active type of vacationer. We enjoyed the beach volley ball and soccer, and also did the pool aerobics one day. The StarFriends are so freiendly and good at encouraging people to join in and make the activities fun.
Lastly, all of the other staff here are GREAT as well! We were always greeted with smiles and greetings whether it be the cleaning staff, or bar tenders, or servers. We loved our Concierge Elisabeth as well, she was always so excited to see us and greet us. She made us feel right at home, and was helpful with anything we need.
The only negative thing I could say was that there were a lot of people on the beaches and pools, and it was difficult to find beach chairs during prime hours. That said, we usually could find something, and if there was nothing at the beach, we would go to the pool where we could always find a seat, it may not be your first choice of seats. While these areas are busy however, if you want a nice quiet area with some privacy, there are a lot of other nice places to relax together, and we didn't find this too much of a frustration.
Overall we were very pleased with our trip and would definitely consider coming back in the future. The staff here were one of the biggest things we could not stop talking about during our whole trip. We fully recommend the Maya!
Awesome week in Mexico
The wife and I just got back from a week in Mexico and had a fantastic time! The resort made a few changes, bottled water at most of the bars to make people feel more comfortable. We sampled our fair share of the liquors and beer at the pool/beech/lobby bars and had no issues! The food was great as always and I never once felt like I was going to be kid napped. Great time!
Firstly, let me say that our resort was absolutely beautiful. The grounds were well kept. I do feel that the beach front could have been better maintained. It seemed as if the section in front of the "adults only" section of the resort was better maintained than the more "family" oriented portion. Our section was overcome with seaweed. The staff was very warm and friendly and accommodating. Where I had issues were with the food and liquor. One of the larger bars near the wave pool was very slow in service and did not get one order right. The bartenders did not acknowledge you when you approached the bar, even to say, "I'm sorry we are really busy, please give us a minute." They just seemed to ignore you and once they did acknowledge you, did not listen to you order and got it wrong. I was not impressed with the food at all at this resort; it was truly disappointing. I understand that it is an all inclusive resort and to a certain extent you expect the food to be average but I felt the food was sub-par. The only restaurant that was good was the Japanese restaurant, with the steak restaurant coming in close 2nd. We were really disappointed with the Mexican restaurant (baffled). I ended up sticking with wine because the liquor had a bad taste and everything seem watered down. I will say that the staff was so friendly and everyone says hello. Anytime we needed something or had issues with something, they did all they could to resolve the problems. The room was pretty dated and the tub pretty gross. We had security in our room 4-5 times to reset our safe because it kept breaking down. They sprayed for mosquitoes during the day but by nightfall new groups swarmed around our door and flew into our room. We spent a lot of tome killing mosquitoes. Also, we went to a show at the Lindo and in the outside auditorium where the show was help, it was sweltering. No fans, nothing to circulate the air which made it really difficult to sit out and enjoy the show. It's a really big resort and it is beautiful but it really needs to work on somethings. I don't know if I would refer this resort, it had some good qualities but that just did not surpass the bad.
Place, maid (jennifer) , staff, were great! Excellent for kids, food could be better especially the buffets but it was good! Only thing i did not like was when checking out on our last day you spent that 8th day in the airport instead of the resort. But i would highly recommend!
Iberostar Paraiso Maya
2nd time at the Maya--outstanding resort--would definitely go again. Have ben to the Lindo twice and the Grand Paraiso twice
1. Hotel photographer LOST photos of my daughter with the parrots. 2. Beach was never raked. Seaweed everywhere. 3. Bar was closed because of tainted alcohol 4. Other bars did not offer top shelf. 5 Several cockroaches in room 6 Cut my inner lip on metal found in the waffle & showed staff. New waffles brought out and had small piece metal AGAIN. 6 Was offerred $150 for gift shop purchases per Maria Cruz & Laura. They never showed up to give me the compensation
Not The Same Iberostar We Stayed In A Few Years Ago!
Our Family booked at the Iberostar because we stay at this resort a few years ago and had a good experience. That said, this trip was much different! Our family was robbed at the pool twice in a 2 hour time period. Each occurrence was reported to hotel security who did nothing but apologize for our looses. Things taken included pool towels, sun tan lotions, pool toys, articles of clothing. Being an all inclusive we did not care money to the pool area so no actual money was stolen but the other items added up to about two hundred bucks in value. Moreover, some people we spoke with complained about getting blackouts and fainting after drinking mix alcoholic drinks. Additionally, the bar in which Abby Connor was served the poisonous mix drink at which led to her death was closed as part of an ongoing crime seen. But The Resort posted signs stating the bar was close for sanitary remodeling! When I asked an Iberostar staff member about the Abby Connor death, the staff member said they knew nothing about any death like I was crazy! Over All There was an Anti-American feel to our stay and I would not recommend this resort as I feel it is unsafe for American Travelers! Additionally, The State Department has just issued a Travel Warning For Mexico as that County has been deemed "Unsafe" for American Travel. Thus it may be best to choose another destination!
It felt like all we did was walk around lost getting bit up by mosquitoes.. the beach was covered in sea weed and the spots that were clean were covered in rocks ..felt like the workers haweere trying to be nice ..

Loved the hotel and staff! Awesome vacation look forward to returning.
Checking in was less than comfortable. The person who check me in was let say made me feel uncomfortable. I had upgraded my reservations from 3 jr. suites to 2 jr. suites and 1 superior suite, when I checked in that was not updated and when I told him that was a mistake, he sort of hinted that I did not pay for the upgrade. I was a little put back by this and showed him my paper work that I did pay for it. Also as a family I thought that we would be together but was told that we would be in 3 building. But as a result we were put in the same building, but I think that was because I told him that I was a member under my brother's umbrella as a black member of Iberostar. We were not informed about anything that was going on in the hotel by Apple and my suggestion is that if information is to be related to guests that it should be put in the envelope that was given to me from Iberostar, this was we could have read and been at the orientation and beach get together.

Our second visit to this resort. We bought a membership here 3 years ago, and the next year went to the Toucan in Playa Del Carmen My wife didn't enjoy it as much as it is an older resort so we returned to this one. My last review wasn't allowed because of my comments about the headline on top of trip advisor, email me if you want my opinion.
The second day we got a call from guest services and I contacted our broker because I suspected we were going to be pitched on upgrading our membership. We were pitched, and I liked what I heard so we did upgrade our membership. Marshall and Paul in Sales were a joy to work with, great guys. If you want my opinion on membership, please send me a message. On Day 3 of a ten day visit I jumped into 4 feet of water and bruised my heel bone. Luckily the resort had crutches as I spent the rest of the vacation on crutches. Everyone was very solicitous. I want to especially recognize Marie who was the consierge in our building. A wonderful lady who couldn't do enough for us.
The guys in member services helped me get crutches for my return trip through the airport etc. Ivan was great. The one day at the beach the member services guys were great also. This is our favorite Iberostar resort so far and will be back to make use of the golf course and other amenities. Thanks to the guys in the french restaurant, I forget the manager's name, our waiter was Felipe. So many great employees. I am writing this on Jan 20th and still have pain in my heel.be careful.
Fabulous family resort!
Our family loves this resort! Not only is the Maya great - but it is conveniently connected to the Lindo, Beach, and Del Mar resorts so that guests of the Maya can use these facilities! We love the Cajun and Gourment (must try their lamb!) restaurants at the Lindo and the Mediterranean at the Del Mar (El Dorado fish served table-side is outstanding!
We joined the Iberostar Club and are very pleased with all the extra amenities, not to mention the additional discount. At the Club beach lounge, Diderot is an outstanding individual and always so very helpful and cheerful! Thanks also to Jose and Grisel! At the Club concierge, we love Satay, Andrea, Brenda and Yavin! Everyone helps to make our vacations superb - and our kids think this is by far their favorite place on Earth!
Second of five night stay
This is my fourth stay at Iberostar properties 2x Iberostar Bávaro in Punta Caña, DR and Iberostar Parque Central in Havana, Cuba. Iberostar is a consistent brand in my opinion. Check in was quick and informative. Staying at Paraiso Maya you have concierges in building to answer questions and make reservations. Grounds and pools are perfectly manicured, public areas very clean. Restaurants are staffed with friendly and attentive personnel. Food is good, my favorite is Ham ibérico. Multiple restaurant choices keeps diet varied. Bathroom does show the high calcium content of water with staining, which could be mistaken for green mold. I’m looking forward to ownership tour on Sunday.
No Upgrade for customer loyalty
First my negative: We have stayed more than 15 times at Iberostar. We have spent well over $45000.00 at this chain. When we arrived at the Maya we asked to give consideration for an upgrade to the Grand next door! We were told that it would cost us $175 per day. When we explained how many times we had stayed with them, it got us nothing.
As for positive, The food is excellent and staff is top notch. In particular the cook Octavio server the best cooked egg omelets ever! He was as friendly as could be and helped to start my day in a happy positive way.
I would love to return to Iberostar but on principle, will pass unless they can provide a more positive recognition for customer loyalty! My idea of recognition for tens of thousands spent, would be a simple guaranteed upgrade to the Grand.
Another Enjoyable Iberostar Vacation
We were a group of seven, three couples and our daughter. This was our fifth Iberostar resort stay. We have stayed at other resorts but have found that the Iberostar chain delivers a consistent level of quality service. In the Mayan Riviera we have stayed at Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar, Iberostar Tucan and this trip the Iberostar Maya, all of which were enjoyable for different reasons. Our stay was for seven days but will consider 10 days the next time.
Our building was number 62 which we found convenient to the lobby and a la carte restaurants and pools. The beach was a few minutes further but I would choose building 62 or 63 again. The court yards within the building were very pleasing with water falls and fountains. The rooms were clean with both a separate shower and Jacuzzi.
The Maya allows access to all the other Paraiso resorts (except the Grand) for dining, bars, beaches and pools. We took advantage of the a la carte restaurants, including the steak house, the gourmet, seafood and Japanese all of which were enjoyable. The buffet essentially also served as appetizer bar as well for the steak house and seafood restaurants. The buffet included seafood, (lobster, cebiche, mussels,oysters...) and sushi, as well as many many meat, salads, veggie, and dessert choices. I would have been happy to have eaten at the buffet but were very pleased with our a la carte restaurants.
The beach conditions were rough during part of our stay and there are stones to avoid in parts of the beach. The pools were well maintained and loungers and palapas were always available. The layout and design of the pools (waterfalls and fountains was both aesthetically attractive and relaxing. The lazy river was gentle and required some paddling to navigate. The Maya also includes access to the wet spa and indoor pool which was enjoyed by the women in our group.
The lobby, pool and beach bars were all well stocked. The lobby bar included many premium liquors.
We took in the Circus and Folklore evening shows, and enjoyed these very much.
The staff, from ground keepers and maids to the concierge, were excellent and were kind in helping me with my Spanish. Although I don't usually identify individuals, Alberto, a chef at the a la carte restaurants, truly went beyond the regular service to ensure our dining satisfaction and offer friendly interaction.
Best Day provided transportation to and from Cancun as well as excursions outside the resort. They offered competent service and found a snorkeling trip with Go Natural Explorers with which we were all very pleased, see separate review.
One issue we did encounter was problems with our key cards; all three rooms experienced key card failure at some point. Although not a huge issue it was inconvenient.
In summary, we would definitely look forward to returning to the Maya.
