Jamaican me want to go back!
I went to the Riu Negril with my boyfriend for 7 nights. This was our first experience in Jamaica, and it was absolutely beautiful! The hotel staff was wonderfully kind, and extremely helpful. The food wasn't luxury, but there was always plenty of options to choose from. By far, the best food we had at the resort was the jerk chicken at the beach hut!!!! It was out of this world every time! The beach was clean, there were plenty of places to sit, and plenty of friendly people to talk to. We did a catamaran tour to Half Moon Bay, and I would highly recommend this trip! We also took a cab to a couple of restaurants off the resort. I felt very safe, and had excellent food and service at Ivan's and Rockhouse. You can't go wrong at the Riu Negril or Jamaica!!!!
Friendly, fun place but food was not as good as the last time we were there
Our first and NOT last visit to Riu Negril...entertainment was outstanding, poolside "antics" very entertaining, ate at all 3 specialty restaurants, would prefer reservations rather than waiting in line however met many great vacationers that we may end up coming back with. loved the pool bubbles....bartenders were fabulous and especially loved (Frank??) he sang in the lounge bar one evening while bartending. LOVED IT LOVED IT..Room was very roomy and loved the balcony....oh yeah we loved the buffet that had the upstairs dining..that was fabulous..thanks for a wonderful trip....we will be back.....the best to everyone at your resort!!!
We had issues with our room. The first night there the room had water all over the floor due to the air conditioning unit leaking. I slipped on the floor and almost fell. The next day we had no towels to dry off after showering. Also the air conditioning unit was not working properly and we could not adjust the air temperature. Even my husband who is generally very warm was freezing in our room. It was very uncomfortable.
Great resort stay and entertainment!
Riu Negril was a great resort to stay at! There was constant entertainment but if you weren't up for it there was a pool away from it that you could just chill at. (which we did a few days) Loved the foam pool party! Buffet food was ok but that is typically the case because they serve the same food everyday for each meal. We only tried the Italian and Asian restaurants here and both were great! We heard others complain about the amount of walking that they had to but we were in building one so it wasn't much for us. However, if you are in building four you will have a hike but who cares? You're on island time do you really need to get anywhere fast? :) I would definitely go back to this resort as it was a trip for us four ladies and we never felt unsafe.
The hotel was beautiful and the staff were amazing. Everyone made you feel welcome at all times. I will definitely recommend this hotel to others.
Great place to stay
I'm pretty new to all inclusive resorts. This is the second resort I've been to. I was happy until I realized that there was another Riu resort about a 1/4 mile down the beach (Riu Sun) that was much better then the resort I was at. I assumed the 5 star apple rating indicated quality level not hotel satisfaction. Riu Club resort I stayed at didn't have premium alcohol. No cocktail waiter/waitress. Lesser food options. Also, they didn't have bees throughout the property. Having so many bees around the beverages one must look at their drink first to make sure no bees have fallen in... This makes the other resort appear much cleaner (Riu Sun, I believe). Staff was very nice but I wouldn't stay here again. I would stay at the other resort 1/4 mile away.
Rui Negril - Wouldn't stay again
When we checked this option, there were 5 apples with the reviews. We read the reviews and they were basically positive. There will always be a negative one in the bunch. We have stayed at all inclusive resorts before so knew what to expect. Our biggest disappointment was the alcohol. It was well liquor at best, and when you over-pour bad liquor it just make the drink worse. We ate at all of the restaurants, they were average. The pool closed at 10pm which was a bummer as well as the pool with the swim up bar was dirty. One of the 4 of us got in - and it was a quick in/out - didn't stay in. The rooms were decent to look at, however, the toilet literally clogged every day. There was atleast an inch or so of standing water in the shower every morning. I didn't bring shampoo/conditioner - That way I save space in my luggage - well, this was a shampoo/conditioner/bodywash combo that was really, really bad! The bar soap made me break out - yes, we purchased shampoo, conditioner and body wash. We didn't drink anything in the mini-bar, again, when it is bad liquor you just stay away. The bed was comfortable, however, the pillows stunk horribly. I'm guessing that they do not wash the cases - we put them on the balcony. Somehow there was a throw pillow in there from a couch from who knows where - I used that. We did use the paddle boards and also the kyack. The staff was very friendly, they are just in a situation where no matter how hard they work, their surrounds are sub-par. We did walk the beach and found that there is another Riu - we went and checked it out. It had all premium liquor and the food looked spectacular. Our friends that we went with had dinner there one night, they said it put ours to shame. The food was good and well prepared. What we had was your basic buffet. I wish Apple would have told us that there was another hotel that had better amenities - we realize it would have been more, however, we would have paid it. As an afterfact we found out we could have gone to the other resort for $10/day - it would have been well worth it - their pool was open at night, their food and alcohol was better and they had more entertainment. This was a learning experience for Jamacia - the people were awesome, the surroundings just were not.
Power outages daily, numerous times. Also, at least three times a day the fire alarms would start screeching. The beach was being dug up with a backhoe. The food was only so-so but after reading reviews about the great jerk chicken served on the beach we were excited to try it. It was closed the entire 7 days we were there. No explanations given. Try to order drinks and the bartenders try to sell you weed, Cuban cigars, etc. Have stayed with RIU resorts in th past and expected more. You ned to change your Apple ratings of this hotel to 3. (maybe)
Staff was amazing. Very friendly, fun, safe environment.
Apple Bait & Switch
Apple left me in the wind. After booking with them for the past 12 years they had me setup for the worst room. Not my ocean view that we discussed. I calles immediately to get this worked out. I was told that they would call me back that night. That never happened, not even an email. I went and dropped 500 mpre and moved to the room I should have been in to start with. 1.5 days later I calling Apple again, this time I did speak with a rep and he was useless. I dont write reviews normally but people should know what there getting for thier money. I will never book with Apple again. PS Apple records the call when you boom a trip.It should be easy for them to truley know wjats going on yet they act like a small business when an issue is raised. The lack of caring, action, and follow up was very off putting. Never again Apple 12 year customer out.

Loved every second!
I had to give this hotel 5 star as the staff, facilities, pools, excursions etc were spot on! There were little things that could be improved but it certainly is exactly like the pictures showed on the Tui website. We have never been to Jamaica before but WE LOVE JAMAICA!!
Firstly, you have to ignore the comments about the beach! The people are not pushy and do not hassle you. Yes they might ask you to buy, but a simple ‘no’ and they carry on walking and are always polite and friendly. Being a young woman (23) I didn’t ever feel unsafe on the beach, even when I was on my own.
Also the water is pretty much crystal clear, there is grass etc but it’s beautiful!
The reception staff are all so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Countless times we had questions or requests and they were all answered and met. A special shout out to Nichoi (so sorry if I have misspelt) the smiliest, friendliest, most helpful guy!
We only tried the steak house restaurant, so cannot comment on the others but this one was lovely. It was nice to have a ‘proper’ sit down meal.
The buffet restaurant too was nice, lots of choice and there was always something there that we liked. Be careful with the bbq sauce and jerk sauce! A couple of times these signs were the wrong way round!
A massive thank you needs to go to Dadrion (again sorry if I have misspelt) he was an absolute diamond! He made our dinner times just that little bit better, you will have the best waiter service if you sit in his area!
We didn’t really get involved that much with the entertainment and didn’t speak to the entertainment team very much but they were still lovely and smiley. They work so so hard and it doesn’t go unnoticed! The beach party and foam party were amazing!
Overall, even though the hotel is very lively and there is always something happening, we had the most relaxing holiday and we would return again! I personally had an amazing time and would always recommend a Riu Hotel.
NOT your dream holiday resort
I wouldn’t recommend even if it was a free stay. The management team were rude, unaccommodating in my own experience and how I witness them treat other guest. The standard of the hotel rooms were like a motel and far from what is expected for the price. The only up side to my stay was the food.
Riu Negril was okay. This is my third all inclusive resort I’ve been to in Jamaica and it has been my least favorite, but that’s not to say it was bad. I’ve stayed at the Grand Palladium and Secrets St. James, and I will say you get what you pay for.
My biggest complaint with Riu Negril is the food and accessibility to it. When you want to eat outside of regular dining hours, it’s not available. There is a 24 hour sports bar that has nachos and popcorn, but that’s not very appetizing,... and there is no room service.
Some of the bartenders are nice, some are rude.... it may be a cultural difference though.
The nightly shows are good.
The hotel, overall, needs a bit of an update and some power washing, but I would suggest it to those who are on a tight budget (as I was).
2nd time at the Riu Club in Negril
Visited May 9-16th , flew Southwest airlines, arrived on time and was transported to Club Riu on JTL Bus. Travel from airport to hotel took about hour and half with stops.
Arrived at the hotel around six, the check-in line was a wait, but the receptionist were nice and polite.
We were assigned to bldg. #2, for senior it was quite a walk which I mention in another review, but this go around, we were unable to make this walk from our room to the lobby.
We talk with the desk clerk, and they told us to check back the next day. The clerks did find us a room closet to the lobby which help us tremendously. Thank you reception desk.
The food again was just ok, mostly the same thing everyday, but I did not go hungry.
Plus during the week they had one of my favorites Ox tails.
The rooms were ok plenty of space, the property was well kept with a beautiful beach, but in need of updated beach chairs with tables.
The entertainment team did a great job very hard working. They always acknowledged the guest with a handshake or a smile.
It was a pleasant stay,
The bus picked us up at 11:am and arrived at the airport around 12:30pm. The flight was on-time and arrived home safely.
This holiday was planned since 2017 in celebration of a friends 60th birthday. My partner and I have stayed at this hotel (the clubhouse) previously and was pleased to be staying there again. Other members of our party were staying at the sister hotel, the tropical, which is a 10 minute walk along the beach. Some of our friends wished they were in our hotel (clubhouse) as it appears the facilities were better then the tropical. Our stay at the clubhouse proved to be a relaxing experience. However, this review is a big ‘shout-out’ for some the staff of the clubhouse. Part way through the stay I received news from home (UK) that meant my stay may have to be cut short. The following morning I sort out the TUI rep, Christine. I also had the opportunity to speak to Bethany. After explaining the circumstances to them they were very empathetic and reassuring that if I did need to return home unexpectedly they would do everything they could to help. Unfortunately, a few days later I did receive the sad news of a bereavement of a close family member. My family back in the UK advised me there was no need to return home immediately. I thought I was copying ok but some members of staff noticed I wasn’t my normal self and without any prying on their part they they did their best to cheer me up. When I did tell a staff member in the buffet restaurant of the bereavement she gave me hug and told ‘everything will be ok’. I found the empathy of staff reassuring and comforting. I’m so aware of how hard the staff have to work so for time to be taken out of their busy days to check if I was ok was much appreciated. Thank you for Christine, Bethany and TUI staff.
