Apple Vacations Traveller Reviews
Apple Bait & Switch
Apple left me in the wind. After booking with them for the past 12 years they had me setup for the worst room. Not my ocean view that we discussed. I calles immediately to get this worked out. I was told that they would call me back that night. That never happened, not even an email. I went and dropped 500 mpre and moved to the room I should have been in to start with. 1.5 days later I calling Apple again, this time I did speak with a rep and he was useless. I dont write reviews normally but people should know what there getting for thier money. I will never book with Apple again. PS Apple records the call when you boom a trip.It should be easy for them to truley know wjats going on yet they act like a small business when an issue is raised. The lack of caring, action, and follow up was very off putting. Never again Apple 12 year customer out.
Great Beach Vacation Place
professional but ok . Only real complaint we have was the restaurants that were listed in the advertising as requiring women wear dresses with sleeves , men long pants etc , were selective as to who and how they enforced it. They didn't allow men in with shorts , but did allow women in with shorts , capris etc. Had we known this , we wouldn't have decided to pack so much. Other than that , place was very nice and might go back.
I never took a trip to Jamaica and I have to say this resort and entire trip was excellent. Never had to wait, Apple took care of all the transportation and times of events and it was outstanding. Only thing I would change was I wasn't aware resort was 2 hours from airport, but that is purely my fault for not doing more research prior to booking trip.
I should have known to ignore the negative reviews of the Riu. This is my third time in Jamaica, my first in Negril. The bus ride is 1.5 hours away from the airport, which wasn't great but no problems. The resort was wonderful, as well as all the staff. The food at the buffet as well as all the restaurants (I tried all of them) were excellent. The Asian was my favorite and it was nice not having to make reservations like I have in the past. Had no trouble getting into any of the restaurants. I'm a wine drinker and the wine was okay, but there were plenty of other options to drink. The workers, from the front desk to housekeeping were wonderful, could not have been nicer. The gym was one of the nicer ones I have been to on a resort. It is also nice that you have wifi all over the resort. I used the spa for a pedicure and would definitely recommend it. Ophelia was great, very sweet and did a wonderful job. My only complaint would be on Apple. We were told we were getting a resort credit and thought we could use it for anything but it was broken up for different activities and spa services. Not idea, and didn't use any of them. I would definitely recommend this resort.
Positive & fun
My family of 4 had a great time at RIU Negril. The wait staff, housekeeping & bartenders were just great! They did their job well and provided a great experience. We enjoyed most of the activities the resort offered and enjoyed those. There were 6-10 guys roaming the beach all the time, offering rides, souveniers, or "other" things and that got a little old. But they took a no and did not pester you repeatedly. (Just asked EVERY day) The resort was very clean. The food was good and we loved trying the different restaurants, only eating at the buffet once. RIU Negril is situated between two foresty type areas, so there were lots of mosquitos and little biting black bugs. The resort did spray each morning, but we had a lot of rain so that seemed to bring them out from what we were told. Overall it was a great experience and we would stay at RIU again.
would go back for the entertainment however would like to try other hotels
Our vacation was amazing however I do have some issues. While the service and entertainment was AMAZING the food was subpar. Two out of four resturants served almost the same exact food. The same steak and the same salmon. While I did like the buffet feel for some of the restaurants I felt they should have been more Restaurant like because their is a main buffet so really no need for that. Also I recommend to provide more food options on the beach. The jerk chicken was amazing first and second day but got sickening after that. They should have added jerk pork, or any other options on the beach. Also when we bought some of the extra trips and everything it said it comes with it didn't. We did not go to Ricks Cafe even though we bought the RICK cafe cattermen. They did provide us with extra snorkeling time which was ok however we had free snorkeling services and we really wanted to see Ricks cafe and it was an extra 40$ cab ride. I just felt like they should have accomadated maybe give us a free taxi ride etc. We paid over 100$ for the trips and while we enjoyed our time definitely felt like we missed out. Also one HUGE issue I had was the drop off service at the end of the vacation. Our plan left at 10:55 and apparently the ONLY bus available was at 545 am. We had to wait FIVE HOURS at a closed airport when we could have had breakfast or one last swim on the beach or pretty must anything else other then sleeping at the airport for five hours. We also saw people from our hotel come two hours later so we were confused on why we were told there was only one bus. Due to some of this issues I feel like when I stay in Negril I will definitely venture out of the hotel because there are more options in food, actives etc. Also with all the hotels on that strip you guys should have your own nightclub. In a lot of the Dominican resorts have discos on the resort etc. A lot of people end of venturing out to make the experience greater and we will definitely do it next time!
We enjoyed our hotel so much, we talked about staying at the same hotel in other locations. It was a wonderful hotel! Very impressed by everything!
Overall the week long stay was very good. The bartenders were excellent. However, there is no drink service throughout the property including the pools or at entertainment events. The ceramic tiles on the steps and walkways gets very slippery causing many people to fall including myself who broke toes during the fall. The people are very friendly throughout. There are too many non-property vendors on the beach constantly wanting to sell you items not allowed in the U.S. The hotel does try and keep them away from seating towards the water. I did like the hotel and vacation overall.
Had a great time, weather reports were totally wrong. Weather was fabulous. Staff is great.
7th time using apple vacations and 2nd time to Jamaica. First time to a Riu resort. This hotel should be rated better on Apple. The beach is clean and the sand is great. Plenty of spots for sun or shade. The water in the bay is clean and perfect blue. The bartenders are the best at the beaches and the lobby. They can make literally anything and are easy to converse with. Supposedly, this is the start of the rainy season but we had 2 hours of rain for our stay last week. It showed 80% chance on weather.com app but nothing happened. Best sun was from 8am-12pm. Then clouds rolled in the afternoon. The sun popped out after 4pm. The mosquitos were vicious from 6-8pm. I would almost avoid eating dinner til afterwards and stay in the room. Coffee is great and the breakfast was the best. Too many options. Only requests is there is more bathrooms on the resort and more activities to do at night. Also, if you like to run outside the path around the rooms is about half a mile. I did a couple 3 mile days in the afternoon.
Review of Riu Negril
Rather disappointed in the food selection.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
The harassment from the local vendors was over-the-top, but the vacation in itself was wonderful!
The RIU Negril and its properties were wonderful, but the public beach and the vendors selling their wares were enough for us to choose another location when we choose to visit Jamaica again. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the RIU Negril and taking part in all of the activities the resort had to offer. Our favorite was snorkeling right off the beach where we saw a large number of species of marine life (some scary and some nice). The a la carte restaurants had a very confusing schedule so we opted for the buffets for our entire week there. The evening entertainment was a blast and we went to 3 or 4 evenings of it. Paul, the bartender in the lobby bar was great and just watching him sing as he served the customers was great entertainment in itself. We were housed in building 2 which had the quiet (3rd) pool which we enjoyed everyday. The other 2 pools were very busy and noisy so we stayed away from them. One other thing to note is if you are bothered by people smoking marijuana or smelling it everywhere on the property this IS NOT the resort for you as it is very prevalent on the grounds and in the residence buildings. We were not bothered by it, too each their own, but every time we stepped out on the balcony, or while on the beach or walking around the grounds we saw people smoking it and smelled it constantly. All in all we had a fantastic stay at the RIU Negril, but in the future we won't be returning to this resort because of the public beach and the "Jamaican Hustle" constantly going on around us!

I planned to enjoy my weekend but I sorely disappointed. I had some physical challenges and I requested a room change but was told I had to wait 24 hour for change. There were no elevators or room service!
Amazing resort, just one issue...
This is truly a great resort set on a beautiful beach. Food, drinks and entertainment are excellent value for money, and the staff are very friendly. Some reviews winge about the food etc, but maybe they should have paid double and stayed at Sandals... My only complaint is the beach vendors. The genuine sellers with bracelets etc walk the beach about twice a day, however the drug pushers will stand like sentry's whistling and shouting at people to come and buy weed. These guys are parasites who push marijuana and cocaine openly infront of everyone without a care, they also intimidate guests into fetching them drinks all day. Come on Riu, give your staff the power to remove wristbands of guests who give these dealers drinks and get security to move them on, even better get the police to do a random raid each week!
Beautiful Beaches and Resort
We stay at this beautiful Resort for 4 days to celebrate my birthday. It is located about an hour drive west of Montego Bay Airport.
Checking was hassle free, we booked two ocean view double rooms and was upgraded to two ocean view suites with mini bars and liquor dispensers. Suites are located on the eastern side of resort and very quite area away from the large pool and entertainment area. Rooms are beautiful with very spacious bathrooms.
There are daily and Nightly entertainments, service is great, food and drinks are average. Not too many choices of top shelf liquor.
Beach is one of the best. Resort is located on part of the 7 miles beaches, water is clear and minimal sea weeds. Recommend taking the glass boat tours to see the reefs, colorful fishes and the other side of the beaches.
We rented a car with driver and did the black river and YS falls tours privately. They are located about 2 hours drive south west of Resort and trip lasted for about 8 hours.
This was our second time in Jamaica, we had a great time. Will return for more fun under the sun.
Fantastic Value for the Money

In-Room Bar Stocker - Excellent (Loved me some RED STRIPE!, and replaced Bottles promptly)
Many more ....Cannot name them all. Excellent
Food was very Good
Breakfast and Lunch were very predictable, But good (Got Crab one Day for Lunch....Yeah)
The Jerk Chicken Shack on the beach for Lunch A+
Dinner was very diversified in many Restaurant's and was by far the best.
Water Sports were excellent
Limited, but good. Appleton Special Rum and Rum Cream were only High End available
Red Stripe Draft Only Beer available at Bars (Cans in the Room)(No Bottles)
Beach was not so good(Hard Sand, not much room to swim) took a $10.00 to $15.00 Cab ride to seven mile Beach for awesomeness
Beach vendors were very numerous and aggressive, but were not allowed past a certain line so you can keep away from them easily.
Great experience! !
The food and entertainment was out of this world!!
The food options at the buffet stations at breakfast, lunch and dinner were extensive! !
The nightly entertainment was just as good. The only drawback is that the rooms are available good distance away from the restaurants and entertainment. We found it to be fun though and used it as exercise routine. We would burn the calories on our way back to the room :)
