Apple Vacations Traveller Reviews
Princess Bavaro review
The staff was extremely friendly but many spoke no English or were just not knowledgeable about the resort. The front desk staff was rude, they never fixed our phone which caused us to not be able to communicate with other family members or order room service. We had several families in our group and we were spread across the resort too far to walk to and could not call them. Apple vacations never offered me the platinum package but evidently gave it to the other people in the group for free. We paid $5,000 for 3 adults and a child for 5 days and I feel we were not given very good service. I had fun but I will not use apple vacation or go to the princess bavaro again.
Bavaro Princess Hotel Spa and Casino; Punta Cana
Although some things were dated/worn in some places you can see they are working to update and change things for the better. They are also working hard on fixing damage from the hurricane. However NONE of this interfered with the enjoyment of our vacation. There were fun things to do in the pool daily (aerobics, water games) The music was a little loud, but it only would last about 30-45 minutes so it was tolerable. One thing I wasn't crazy about was the amount of people that would approach you to buy excursions off the resort property or trying to sell time shares. I never really saw the spa, although I never really went looking for it so not sure if there is one, where it is. There were 'massage' tables behind the pool in cabanas but it appeared you only could get a massage as one of your "free gifts" if you listened to the several hour long time share presentation. One good thing, if you just said "No, gracias" they would walk away and leave you alone: Same with the Excursion Sales people. The Casino was nice. There were more slot machines than tables, but I feel if you want a Casino, go to Vegas. We only went for a few hours to check it out. We were here for the beach, warm weather and pool. I have no complaints about the staff; we did have a problem in the room and they were there in less than 10 minutes to remedy the situation. Same with Maid service and getting more towels. They were there in no time at all. One thing that I wasn't crazy about was the mini bar was stocked daily but with 1 Sprite, 1 Coke and 1 Cerveza per person in the room. You could request more Cerveza, but then had to pay for it ($3.00 per bottle) which is cheap compared to what you pay for a bottle of beer at a bar in the U.S., but being an All Inclusive resort I would have thought they would have brought more without charge. We liked sitting on the patio/balcony of our room and have a few beers. That really would by my only complaint if you can call it a complaint! Overall we had a great vacation and I would definitely return to the Bavaro Princess Hotel.
Beach was great. A couple of staff members made our vacation very special and memorable; Jordi at the Platinum desk, Claudio at the beach bar, Clara waitress at main lobby bar, and the bartenders at Platinum lounge. Pools could use a coat of paint, but we are beach people and that was beautiful. Overall great time, would definitely good back to this resort.
Everything was great. Great staff at the hotel. Several days of delay waiting for the transportation on the resort. Great food. Excellent Xmas dinner.
We were very happy with the Bavaro Princess. We had the Platinum package which was well worth the price. We had very good service from our concierge Juan, arranging Birthday and anniversary parties for two of our couples. We need to thank Ewie who went above and beyond when the restaurant we were to have our birthday at was closed due to road paving. Ewie took us to another restaurant getting us right in and arranging for a cake at that restaurant. Deurius on the beach immediately recognized us everyday and brought us our favorite drinks.”IOWA, IOWA”. All the service we received was remarkable and Goeslin kept our room clean and well stocked. We plan on returning soon. Thank you everyone.
Bavaro Princess Resort & Spa
The ONLY downside to our vacation was that people smoked everywhere!! No designated smoking areas, and smokers were NOT considerate about when and where they smoked.
Hotel suites were very comfortable and roomy. We were very pleased with our accommodations: a non-smoking room, quite and near the beach suite.
The past hurricane season had taken it toll on the area but the resort staff really tried to make us as comfortable as possible. Trolley transport was in abundance to take us around the resort and to dinner buffets.
Bavaro Princess Punta Cana Review
We had a great time at the Bavaro Princess! It was our first all inclusive vacation and we thought everything was great! We would definitely go back to this resort! All the workers were very helpful and friendly. The beach was beautiful!
Families with children should steer clear. The pool featured a DJ blasting the most explicitly vulgar music that one can imagine.
Storm damage made traveling on the "bus" a most unpleasant experience as one must lift their legs as they ride through the foul smelling flooded areas of the pathways.
After a very overrated dinner at the Licey restaurant, my wife and I stood outside for twenty minutes before someone saw fit to tell us that the bus did not run in the rain.
We had to walk to the lobby area in the pouring rain. When we reached the detour route that the bus using, a nearly empty bus ignored my wife's plea to stop.
Out of the 13 people in our group, 10 were struck ill and two were hospitalized.
It wasn't a great trip.
We have been to the Bavaro Princess for the past 3 years and always have excellent service. My husband is handicap they always accomidate our room when we get there. We have taken family members with us and always recommend Apple Vacations to our friends because of how well our trips have gone. We missed our flight this past trip and I called at 7 am and Angela was able to help me figure out what I had to do and us another flight. Hated that we lost a day of Punta Cana but your agency was right there for me. Thank you
BED WAS HARD
Bavaro Princess NOT EVER AGAIN
Review has nothing to do with any hurricanes, rain or wind damage. Paid for upgrade To Platinum. I believe that is a joke. Spoke to other guest who described their rooms and showed them pics of ours and theirs was much nicer. I think platinum meant OLD. Walked into room and it smelled of glue or something, found out was fresh epoxy on shower/floor. Bathroom was nasty with dirty chalking, chipped tiles and rain shower hanging loose from wall. Bedroom and main area floors and walls were always damp and we were always slipping on floor. Bed and pillows had odor. My Moms room phone never worked and her sheets and pillows smelled worse than ours. No room service, no drink wait staff at pool had to go to swim up bar for drinks. All food was greasy and tasted like stale spoiled olive oil. And the most horrific smell of my life (worse than a sewage plant) swamp area that we had to drive through on shuttle to lobby/main buffet/theater!!

beautiul beaches..bountiful buffet
we had 6 days 5 nights at this resort ..it was a beautiful resort..great layout also..trolley around the resort was very helpful and frequent...the buffet was very nice and lots of food... they had entertainment every night and I even participated in the musical chair game...wi- fi was only in the hotel lobby which was hilarious to see everyone packed in there on their phones and Ipads... We ate at the Gaucho twice and steaks were delicious, had lobster at The Licey twice ...delicious..dessert was GREAT!!! my main complaint is bed was so hard..thought I was sleeping on the box spring!!! my husband had to dump the de humidifier himself twice a day.... I might be a little modest but I like my privacy when in the bathroom..I don't like being out in the wide open even if its just my husband there..If I had small children I would have died of embarrassment..
We went through Apple vacations and Kelly helped me with this destination..2 time to Punta Cana..1st time at this resort...overall we had a great time..walked on the beach drank some Mannawanna....ate delicious food and had fun and relaxation...what more can you ask for....also beware Resort Holiday Club trying to get you to but their club program...wasted 2 hours but we knew better and still got roped in going...Apple warned us but we were in a meeting before we knew what to do....guess I'll just have to walk around saying NO NO NO
also the shuttle to downtown ...WASN'T downtown..it was to a building where they wanted you to shop.....we were there.Jan 6-11the..no problem at airport at all... very fast!!!BTW everyone was very courteous and friendly...
Am at the resort now, the food and service are good but it’s not a 4/5 star hotel, the rooms need updating in some areas, the showers need a to be sorted as tiles are grubby and sealant needs replacing in all bathroom and hot tub areas, the sealing was leaking from the room above. But apart from that a nice hotel. Just wish the staff would smile a bit more they seem unhappy in some restaurants. But the lady in the premium lounge was always pleasant and smiling. Couldn’t do enough for you.
Georgeous Resort with a few flaws
This year we visited The Bavaro Princess All Suites Hotel from Dec 29 - Jan 5th 2018. Family of 4 - kids are 11 and 14. Here is our review. Please keep in mind we go away once a year so we have many other resorts to compare with.
Sunwing : As usual they were so/so, ran out of food, both ways, on the way home they announced they ran out of water & immigration cards before we even took off, asked us to use the washrooms sparingly??? By the time they got to our sets ( Row 19 & 20) they had ran out of food and ginger ale. I was not impressed at all.
Hamilton Ontario AP : Absolutely amazing, 1st time out of Hamilton, we usually fly out of Toronto - What a delight
Punta Cana AP: What a disaster - 6 flights landed at the same time - over 2 hrs to get through the AP and their stupid customs (3 separate check points) plus of course the money grab of $10.00USD per person to enter and $20.00USD per person to exit. It was a ridiculous experience. I could go on and on but this AP in itself would deter us from going back to Punta Cana it was that bad.
Check In: Well, this is where the resort loses all it's points with us. Check in was smooth for the most part, I asked as usual if they could accommodate an upgrade for us like you are supposed to ask :) - he said let me check - came back and said his boss approved an upgrade as a New Years gift - we were thrilled and tipped him accordingly in USD. A few hrs later my husband and I realized that he had ripped us off and we never received an upgrade at all. We went back the next day and we did get our tip back and 3 days later an upgrade to an Ocean front room by the pool but it left a bad task in our mouth the entire week. the only upgrade we got was closer to the pool, we asked for Premium Upgrade and they said NO.
Resort: Gorgeous, very well maintained and clean however it is VERY VERY large. For sure one of the largest we have stayed at, however their tram service throughout the resort was extremely well ran. Just not sure if I want to spend my week waiting and riding a small train everywhere. Reminded me of the Bahia Principe Coba where we had to ride the tram to get from one resort to the other.
Food: Many restaurants and Buffets, always a ton of food, usually we are sick of the food by the end of the week but that wasn't really the case this year. the problem we faced was that we have two food allergies in our family. One to Pork and One to Shell Fish. The Shell Fish was pretty easy to stay away from as it was cooked separately, BUT, the pork was a different story. They had big grills and cooked the beef, chicken and pork all on the same grill. This made for a very worrisome vacation EVERY meal - we finally got a letter written up in Spanish and it helped, they accommodated the allergies very graciously as long as we asked. And I am happy to report no one was ill from the food in general OR even better from the food allergies.
Rooms: very nice and large. We had two and both were layed out the same, large bed (hard) jaccuzi tub in the room, nice walk in showers, I couldn't say a bad thing about the rooms even if I tried, very lovely and well maintained and cleaned daily. Beverages in fridge re-stocked every other day which was fine for us.
Beach: WELL, by far one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever been to, it was breathtaking long and white sand, plenty of palapas and beach chairs. Water was warm and slightly rough but fun to play in the waves. Trust me if it was dangerous my kids would not have been in the Ocean - however, we always went in and were right by them in case they lost their footing from the undertow.
Pool: There were a few but of course the main pool was large and very nice, swim up bar was excellent. No complaints with the pool at all.
Beach Grill: Great for afternoon/lunch time snacks serving the regular burger, dogs fries, and a couple other things, also right by a second and very handy buffet so you could get a bit of both.
New Years Eve Gala: Incredible and had a great time - very well done folks
All in All - Had a wonderful week, resort is incredible although very large , there were a lot of kids and families which was great for us - the one observation I have is that there are NO pool activities what so ever until 3:30 when the dude comes to the pool with a stereo and speaker and does water aerobics - there should have been activities all day around the pool and for the kids - that was a big ZERO as there was non
If the guy at the front would not have lied to us we would give it a 5/5 but other than that it was awesome and Daniel the Customer Service Manager did apologize and tried to make it up to us
PS : the resort is only like 25 minutes from the AP so another plus in their favor.
Some impressions I would share with future travelers
I visited Bavaro Princess for 7 nights including the New Year. I liked the hotel, beautiful territory, nice park with ducks, peacocks, turtles..Clean rooms with cozy balconies. The beach and pool are really nice. What I noticed on the beach - there was no lifeguards at all on the whole territory, I checked. There were many on the two hotels from both sides, but no even life savers on ours! The last 2 days were really wavy! I did not see anybody who looked like a lifeguard.
The food in main buffet was fine, but kind of poor comparing to other hotels of the same class and price...When I am on vacation, I include bacon into my breakfast. This bacon was fried on such old bad oil, so I could not eat it - any day! Sorry, but it tasted and smelled like machine oil! I think the kitchen should know about. The guy who makes crepes, was great!
Another couple of things.
Restaurant Peskador is awful! I know what the red snapper looks like and tastes. This fish was never even close to it (like the menu says). It was not edible. The people served before us, just left after tasting. We did the same right after. The fish soup was bad too. The girl with us, who ordered "meet" and vegetables", did not fine the meat in the plate of dark greasy rice (was rice considered a vegetable?!) with pieces of fish or whatever it was. It was really bad experience. Do not go there.
The Gaucho Restaurant was good though. Great pork ribs and other dished were good too! Thank you.
The hibachi grill was fun, good food, great guys. This place has no reservations, but I think they should be, because they sit you only if they have 10 people for the table, so you never know how long you need to wait to be seated, and you depend on other people if you are not group of 10 (we were 4 only, so had to wait for 40 minutes). In this case reservations would be a help.
The rest i can't complain, everything was good, friendly staff, nice little trams driving you around the hotel, etc.
I think I had to say all i said, it may help the hotel do something and improve their services in certain areas.
Great resort for all ages...
Stayed at the Bavaro Princess from December 26-January 2 with my wife (we're both in our late 30s) and our two boys (3 & 7). I was pleasantly surprised at the overall quality of the resort, and I would recommend it. My detailed comments are below, including just a few negatives at the bottom.
We found the service and food to be excellent. Perhaps it helped that both my wife and I speak spanish, so whenever we asked for something the service was quick and came with a smile. That being said, I was impressed at how clean the place was, there was staff in the lobby with a big mop-broom constantly ensuring the floors were clean and tidy. The guests seemed on the classier side (I never saw men walking about the lobby without shirts) and you can't enter the restaurants without shirts or with wet bathing suits. We really enjoyed the food, especially our kids, who are fussy eaters - they had their choice of everything (more on this below). The grounds are nice but need some minor upgrades, although there was some ongoing work while we were there (and it was not disruptive); the beach is big and there is lots to do - volleyball, watersports, etc. The animation staff does a terrific job of engaging people throughout the day. On our second day there was a mid-afternoon foam party in the pool, the animators were all dancing, and the kids thought it was a riot.
The resort is fairly large, but there are golf-cart shuttles to take you from the beach to the reception and back, so you can either walk for about 10 minutes and stretch your legs or kick back for a few minutes with other guests in a cart.
There is a wide variety of food at the buffet and we enjoyed the fact that most nights were different (spanish, italian themes, etc). The spread on New Year's Eve was fantastic. The quality of the food is very good and it's really tasty. I suppose the only downside is that after 7 days of indulging you start to feel the waistline expanding...There are several restaurants in case you get tired of the buffet, we did not try them only because the kids really liked the buffet.
I would recommend this resort for people from ages 0-60. It's great for kids and young families; teenagers have lots to do during the day. I noticed groups in their 20s having heaps of fun. If you're over 60 you might find the resort a little too big and 'busy', lots of music and people everywhere. One thing to note, the first few days after we arrived, the resort was very quiet (surprising considering it was right after 'Xmas). But on December 30th the place really filled up and I did find it a little hectic (the beach chairs were all taken by 10AM and the restaurant became a zoo).
Negatives: not very many, but a few things to caution you on if you go. There are a few 'licensed promoters' who work at the hotel and hang out outside the main buffet. They try to grab you and sell you your next Princess vacation. I politely told them no on the first day, and each time we left the area I just walked past them. It's disappointing a resort like this would try to up-sell you during your vacation. If the manager of the resort reads this, please re-consider not allowing this practice. There are also licensed people who try to sell you activities around the pool and the beach. Again, just say no. It was a bit annoying...The other thing is if you have young kids and you are walking on the path to the beach, the path is very narrow and you have to really be careful of the oncoming trolley-cart, especially at night.
But overall, a great place, and I can't stress enough how good and friendly the service was!
