This is a awesome hotel. The service was the best I have ever had. This was the best vacation me and the wife have ever had. The only problem we had was my sandals were stolen on the beach the first day, but everything else was so good it didn't matter.
Beach area to small no umbrella or bar on beach
4th time and going back
Our agent Michelle Duquaine was top notch in our booking. Rooms are average and clean. Hotel is very clean. Food is good and a variety. Beach very nice (not large), perfect for relaxation. The only down side is the sun is gone by 5:30-6pm last week in february and first week in march. To the right of the beach is a ferry to the island. Great boat ride. Feel safe walking our of the hotel in the hotel district. Would go back in a heart beat. Apple people were readily available if we wanted to book a excursion. We are strictly there for RR!
The resorts food and accommodations and staff were great. The entertainment was the same as two years ago. If you want people to return change it up.
Low shelf alcohol
Did not like the well drinks. Poor quality of choice of wiskey and rum.
Riu Cancun Review
I stayed at Riu Cancun Feb '18, I was very happy with the Hotel Staff, they really go beyond expectations to make you feel comfortable and enjoy your vacation. The hotel is clean, the food is fresh and with variety every day. The beach is truly turquoise water in this area and the swimming pools have a great environment with music and pool bar, I also felt safe at all times. I would definitely book this same place in the near future and would recommend.
1. Apple vacation representative on-site all day.
2. Beach was well-maintained and clean.
3. Room was old but clean.
4. Entertainers were doing their best.
5. Convenient location of hotel.
1. Pool was cold and hot-tub was not even warm enough!
2. Only 4 small (8 person max) elevators for such a huge hotel, long waits times.
3.So many food options but quality was average.
4. Service at restaurants needed attention.
5. Very few pool-side seats get good sunshine due to main building covering the sun.
6. Inside the restaurant there was always a burnt oil smell, not good enough ventilation.
7. Hotel has very old design and spa is located very far to main spots.
Very nice, and very clean.
My wife likes to experience staying in different hotels, so she is really picky about returning to same hotels, but she would be happy to return to this one. In fact we are coming back next year.
Seeing that this was our 3 visit to this hotel, we were disappointed that the services weren't as good as they use to be. The pool had bugs and leftover sunscreen floating at the top of the water, the renovations missed the mark on trying to give it a modern feel. It looks rather cheap and poorly designed. The guestroom smelled like a sewer. The roof needs to be repaired as we were on the Annex Building on top floor (6th floor). It rained during the evening which then leaked into our guestroom setting off the alarm which then leaked orange water down onto the nightdtand and bed that we were sleeping in. We shared with the staff what happened, we can back and they put a bathroom towel over the nightstand and changed our sheets. Lastly, the last morning we were there, we saw a cockroach crawling on the floor and up the wall. We shared with staff at check out and they thanked us but didn't seemed concerned. The Riu Cancun was a special place as my husband and I met there, married there and sadly will not be returning there after this last experience. On a positive, staff was friendly. Fidel in the Italian restaurant was AWESOME!
I loved the hotel, the beach, and Tracy from Apple Vacations was AMAZING!!! I will definitely be booking with this company in the near future
This place is great. Even with a three year old. All the fun you want can be had. Visit the RIU Cancun. If your on the edge, just jump. It's a great place. Food, fun in the sun, night time fun also. It was perfect for what I was looking for/needed. Thank you riu, we loved it

I love this place!!!!
I love this place!!! Went not that long ago... the service is amazing, room and refreshments topped up daily! We with my friend. The enterainment was a little cringey - but its all about the holiday. Pool Bar was brilliant. I would suggest booking restaurants a few days before because it gets busy!
The Riu Cancun is a really great hotel, the service here is great and the rooms are really spacious, the only downside to the room is that there is a door that links two rooms together, for 4 nights we had an extremely loud group of American lads who woke us up on a few occasions. The food here is tasty although it does get a bit repetitive and the themed nights are not really themed atall. The entertainment team here are quality! They are up at 9am down by the pool playing games and making up activities. They then put on a show at 21:30 and then at 22:45 take you out on the strip. All the bars are pretty good but I would really recommend drinking at the bar in the hotel lobby. The pools here are Great, the quiet pool is the best to have a swim in although it does get shady round there around 3pm. All in all we had a great holiday just a shame about noisy guests!!
Stay somewhere else
The Hotel Riu Cancun is poor at best. I came to this hotel with a group of 8 for a Bachelorette party so was not expecting luxury, but was still disappointed in the service and quality at Riu Cancun.
First, the hotel allows guests to smoke cigarettes in the pool resulting in a large amount of ash in the water. Not sure the last time the pool was drained but in addition to the ash it is very very murky. I was not able to enjoy the swim up pool for these reasons.
Second, on our third night staying here we returned from a night out to find that there was no running water in any of our three hotel rooms. That means no showers, no flushing toilets, no sinks to wash you face or brush your teeth. When the front desk was alerted they showed limited concern and offered no compensation for the issue. It was fixed by morning, but very disappointing that we were without water in the first place.
There is no room service, but they boast “24 hour food in the sports bar” which is cold, leftover hotdogs in a refrigerator. No hot food 24 hours. Do not come back to Riu Cancun from the nightlife hungry....
The rooms are average with dated decorations but seem clean, and the food at the buffet is decent so I am offering this place a fair two stars.
Just landed this morning and depressed already!! Booked through Tui Holidays for 2 weeks. Check in was quick and all rooms have sea view. Rooms were huge and very stylish with a gorgeous bathroom which was cleaned everyday! Entertainment was amazing around the pool area so funny lots of games to play. Wake up early to do your towels as by 7am they would be gone! Had bad diahorrea from the food great selection of food but my stomach is sensitive so didnt always agree with the food. Do not book excursions with Tui its overpriced we booked with sports caribe within the hotel and alot cheaper and coco bongo VIP is a must it is a spectacular show bar! holiday was soo amazing the holiday blues are oh so real!!!!😁😁
Loved it... but don't expect tranquility...
Just reading some of the reviews it seems some unlucky folk booked this place without realising that Cancun attracts lots of young Americans looking for a party - the hotel was full of them! (But we knew that and kinda went to Cancun for the same thing!)
Food buffets and restaurants all amazing - selection incredible - someone has said that the food was similar each night, but unless you intend to put a bit of everything on your plate, then you can try something very different each mealtime - avoid mixing Mussels with Pizza and you'll be able to have a seafood meal one night, and a high-carb meal the next night - get me?
Pools are good, although the swim up bar pool really is vile - I dread to think what man-made (literally) substances are in there - but we were too drunk to care really, so just ignored it and hoped the chlorine was tearing up those clumps of all sorts! lol
Bar services was good - better if you tip, but good all the same - as far as all inclusive resorts go, this place is good - great location and good value for money.
Want posh, peace and pocket charms? Don't stay here. Stay in the Maldives or summat.
Hope this helps! :)
