It was a perfect vacation! There were a couple of minor things I wish could've been better!
Loved the resort, very nice, very clean, friendly people and beautiful! However we asked for King beds in 2 of our 3 rooms, and that didn't happen...which really stunk for 2 of the couples on our trip. The waiting in line for reservations every morning was RIDICULOUS...it meant we couldn't sleep in AT ALL. The line began forming at 7:30 and if you weren't in line by 8:15 you were basically screwed for a decent, if at all, reservation for a sit down meal. They didn't start taking them until 8:30, so we learned early in week to plan on being in line for at least 45 minutes to an hour. That really stunk! And we ALWAYS complain about cigarettes smoking. This was the first resort, however, that didn't have designated smoking areas, so there was no avoiding it. Despite those minor things we had a blast!

Para ir a los restaurantes a la carta tienes que hacer reserva y nunca hay, solo puedes reservar de 7am a 11am de los 5 días que estuve solo pude ir un día, al japonés y la comida fue borrosa. La comida del bufete era espantosa. El bar de la piscina cierra a las 6 pm y los tragos no se pueden tomar saben a jarabe. La verdad que muy mala experiencia. No tiene servicio de habitaciones. No te limpian la habitación solo hacen la cama, no te cambian las toallas. Dicen que tienen free wifi en dos zonas del hotel y en ninguna de las dos funciona. Muy pésimo.
IFA is a very comfortable hotel. The buffet is decent, and the menu changes daily. It is open at convenient times. The pizza/grill is also open at very convenient times - whenever I came back late from the bars/clubs, this is the only restaurant that is open, and they have pretty good burgers and fries available. All 3 restaurants that require reservation for dinner are excellent. Make sure to call or visit guest services early on the day you would like to book because slots go fast. If you have excursions scheduled and are unable to make it, you can book the night before, just show your receipt. Nightly entertainment at the theatro was fun (10-11pm) - dancers are great and have good energy. Lots of good crowd participation. Different show every night. Unlimited drinks at the bar are great, especially in the pool. Go for the mamajuana shots and the cocoloco drinks - the local favorites. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Most speak little to moderate amounts of english - if you speak some spanish, it is easier to get by, but the staff is always friendly, polite, and professional and try their best to accommodate you. Especially loved Emmanuel at the front desk (night shift), Carlos in guest services, and Junior and another very nice bar tender whose name I can't remember but he played Romeo Santos music for me at the Jacuzzi per my request because it was too quiet! Disco Fantasy was fun too. I went earlier in the night and there wasn't a lot of people yet (11pm-2am); but from what I heard from other guests, it becomes more fun after 2 AM. Overall had a great stay and would recommend!
Pretty resort poor service
The resort was very pretty and our room was very comfortable. The man cleaning our room did a great job and was friendly as was some of the bar staff. Luis from Apple tours was helpful the first two days but then he disappeared without warning. There was another Apple tour person for a day but for the rest of the trip we had no one. We weren't helped with our trip out of the resort. The people working the desk at the resort were invariably rude to guests as were some of the people working in restaurants. We also were harassed constantly by people selling within the resort.
Was wishing for a better experience....
While the rain season is something you cannot avoid, there were a number of glitches during our trip- ones that really shouldn't have happened. Details as follows:
1. We lost power at the hotel for the larger part of an entire morning (Monday).
2. Our dinner reservations for El Caribe restaurant were mixed up (at Guest Services). As such, we had to make alternative plans. The customer service component of this mishap/experience was disappointing. The staff in this particular restaurant were not helpful, ushered us away from the restaurant, and made us go back to Guest Services to inquire as to what happened. In doing so, we were unable to find said gentleman, who come to find out- was on dinner.
3. The 12-18 inches of water we received on the Monday of our trip flooded the pool, shut down all outdoor entertainment, and unfortunately, the hotel offered nothing indoors to do (i.e. a recreation room/building).
4. Our television went out.
5. We could never access the Wi-Fi hot spots (labeled as free)- even in the designated areas.
6. We lost hot water within the bathroom of the hotel for at least two days (showering concerns).
7. It was difficult to hear some of the entertainers throughout the day, since a significant part of the resort was under construction (new buildings).
8. We had to discard of our own garbage, and find our own supplies (towels and toilet paper).
While there were a number of concerns we had on the negative side of the scale, the experience also came with several other benefits. Those who did not fully speak the English language went out of their way to find someone who could fully communicate with you, if you needed something. The performers were great (evening theater experience). The wait staff at the hotel were great- they ran a well-oiled machine, were friendly and courteous, and really seemed to enjoy their roles. They made you feel welcome, and they cracked jokes with you, and many went out of their way to help you make the most out of the experience.
This place is not for Americans... caters to europeans
We were grossly disappointed in our choice of this hotel. The food was the same every single day and was disgusting. By the end of the week we all had lost weight. My husband and I love wine and were disappointed in the fact that the wine was served out of a turpentine jug.. not kidding. They have four specialty restaurants but in order to get into the restaurants you have to call ahead at 9 AM in the morning or wait in line in the lobby with 100 people deep . Completely ridiculous . Our TV broke on Tuesday it took four days to fix it because no one could speak English and kept blaming it on a satellite problem ! My family has traveled all throughout the Caribbean Mexico and have never experienced a disappointment like this place. The only positive I can say is the hotel was kept clean and the beach is beautiful but they seaweed is bad!

Hard other than that it's a great hotel.
Hotel very bad. Horrible and rude service. Construction everywhere. High pressure sales people all over the on the property trying to sell jewelry, rum, paintings, activities, massage-
The hotel has been undergoing a major renovation for at least a year now. Then the buildings are done, they are done right and in superior condition. However, the repairs are taking a long time. The pool had only about 25% of the deck space available for chairs, and they are bolted to the ground and cannot be moved. That is a big minus. It affects adversely the number of people in the resort at the present time. Recommend getting information on timing for completion before going there. Entertainment wise, it is among the best in Punta Cana. The theatre and the disco are the best facilities around. The theater entertainment is excellent if you like dancing shows; but ultimately lacking in diversity. Every night is essentially the same; just different dance routines and costumes. The food is fair at best. The buffet quality is not very good. The restaurants are average to above average, but you have to call at 9:00 am or you cannot get a reservation. We like the resort (this was our third time there) because it is smaller and has a cozy feel, and will go back because we like the theatre and the disco. But, we will wait now until the resort is 100% done.
For the price per hotel rating...a good deal. all support staff were very helpful. Room issues were taken care of promptly. The buffet food was good, the specialty restaurant food and service was very good. The buffet a la carte order and cook station was the best of the buffet. The nightly entertainment needs improvement. The remodeled hotel rooms were very nice and modern. Would suggest that a comfortable sofa be installed in each room. The site was large, the beach was not immediately at the hotel door step, but was on the property and they had golf cart shuttles every five minutes.
The food could have been better. There wasn't enough variety and the flavor was plain. The hotel room could have been cleaner. Not enough towels, the bed comforters had stains and the bed itself was not comfortable.

Overall great holiday
Just returned from a two week holiday with my boyfriend and we had a great holiday. However there are a few things that could definitely be improved.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, well maintained. The pool areas are lovely, plenty sunbeds and good atmosphere at the bigger pool if you like it more lively. One down side Is the pool was sometimes a little dirty with dead insects and dirt which could be cleaned more often.
Rooms are lovely, we stayed in bungalow 1166 which was very clean and spacious. Air con is great when it works, we had issues with this with numerous power cuts.
Food is nice, although buffet can be repetitive but you expect this at the end of a 2 week holiday. Downside of the buffet is there are a lot of flies which is unhygenic around food. A la carte Restaraunt's are especially nice, just make sure you get to guest services at a decent time in the morn ing to book. Pizza bar is the best pizza we have had and ate this almost every day!
Beach is very picturesque and what you would expect from a carribean beach. However I was surprised at the amount of sea weed on the beach, this was particularly bad due to the hurricane. However staff work hard to clean this up!
The majority of the staff were friendly, however there are the odd few who don't know how to smile. I found the reception staff weren't as helpful as I hoped and they don't seem to be able to give you an answer to any issues you may have. Eg no power in rooms which meant no air con overnight which is awful in that heat! Jordan on reception is very helpful and friendly and an asset to the hotel.
Bellboys also very friendly never forgetting to say hello and stop in the Buggies to pick you up.
Animation team work hard and put on a good show throughout the day, I can't comment much on the night time entertainment as we only went once and wasn't really for us. The night club is fun when it starts getting busy.
We also bought tickets for coco Bongos which I definitely recommend if you like a good night out.
Overall we had an amazing holiday, there are a number of things in the hotel that prevent the hotel from being a 4* however if you aren't too fussy and want a relaxing holiday with decent food and drink, nice scenery and pools then this is the place for you.
Do not trust this hotel !
I have stayed 10 days ! Hot water works at random times AC is the same! Clean towels hardly reached our room! The pool was dirty! During my stay they had to give new key about five times to my room technical fault! The staff was arrogant not helpful at all! Food was almost the same all week! The sea was beautiful location excellent ! Same about managements. Needs a good shake up! Definatelly not 4 star service!
Power cuts to regular not the standard for Dom Rep
I have regularly travelled to the Dominican Republic starting back 10 years ago when power cuts were common but the hotels always had generators so it wouldn't affect the travellers.
So to travel to Punta Cana in 2017 and stay at this hotel and have regular power cuts with hours of no food service at the restaurants was not what expected especially from a 4 star hotel. We have days without aircon in our rooms and for the whole night one night. We had a 5month old baby and it was an uncomfortable night. The worst part was at 8 pm I phoned reception to ask if the aircon would be on soon and was told yes one hour. After a few hours I phoned back I was told it would be 10 minutes. I went to the shop and the staff were emptying the fridges and said no aircon or power would be on all night. I again phoned reception to clarify this and was told it was coming on in a few mins. However it wasn't until 1pm the next day the aircon came back on. Lies from staff is really upsetting also makes me wonder if this was planned maintenance! On the plus side the next day we were due to go home and explained due to the heat the baby didn't sleep and we would like the room until 3pm free of charge once discussed with the manager he allowed us to use the room until leaving.
There were to many days when dinner service or lunch at the pizzeria was cancelled.
The guest services take 3 days to sort out guest problems. We had villa 1151 and there was rain at the hotel. The roof was leaking onto the bed we put a pot under the dripping which was moved and soaked the bed but was not fixed. Three days of constant complaints and finally we were moved. 3 days sleeping in a damp villa isn't good for anyone's health. Overall disappointing service!
The restaurants are lovely but a big queue from 8.30 every morning to book.
The pool is disgusting floating green and dirt in the main pool with swim up bar. I cut my feet on the bottom of the pool. The other pool is better and cleaner.
The free wifi never works and you can get 7 days for $40 in internet centre which wasn't the greatest but worked throughout the resort.
The beer is 2% at all inclusive and wouldn't affect the frogs around the pool. The food isn't to bad. I enjoyed the restaurants.
The prices are steep for exclusions but they do have some lovely places to see and Dominicans are very talented proud friendly people. The dinner staff are lovely!
I wouldn't visit this hotel again there are better hotels locally with better customer service.
We still enjoyed our staff but disappointed with the quality and lack of pride and service to the customer did put a downer to our stay
Even Irma couldn't spoil our Holiday
Just returned from a brilliant 14 day holiday to the IFA Villas Bavaro. Staying as a family of 4 we stayed in the bungalow type buildings closer to the quieter pool. We found the room a little small for 4 people but adequate. The air conditioning in the room is a god send! 2 Pool areas both fine with plenty of sunbeds and no mad rush to get up early and reserve beds. We preferred the quiet pool as the main pool can get rowdy and impossible to get served at the swim up bar due to people hogging the area.
We ate at all of the restaurants and although the food isn't perfect it is edible with plenty of choice to satisfy even the fussiest of eaters. Yes at the end of the 2 weeks the food gets repetitive, but we get that at all the all inclusive hotels that we goto.
The staff work tirelessly from early morning until late at night to make sure that you can have the best holiday that you can, whether it be the maids cleaning your room, the cleaners constantly picking up cups/rubbish from lazy holidaymakers, to the bar stafff who work long hours but when treated correctly themselves will always have a smile and a laugh with you. I have seen that people complain that some of the staff's English is limited? So is my Spanish but it didnt stop them or me trying to be pleasant, it doesn't cost anything!
Hurricane Irma passed over us whilst we were here and although it didn't hit direct and cause any damage I felt that at 1st the hotel were a little slow getting information to the holidaymakers, this caused a bit of confusion and panic which slowly eased as the impending hurricane came and went. The next morning was a hive of activity getting everything open and back to normal as quick as possible and full credit again goes to all of the staff for allowing people's holidays to return to normal as quickly as possible,
There are a few things that could improve this hotel, one being air conditioning in the bars and restaurant's as the heat at night is still uncomfortable after getting showered and changed. The other is the tightening up of the dress policy, in the restaurants at night you don't expect to see people still in their beach shorts and vests or even at La Vela in the day people sitting eating soaking wet or in their speedo's !
Aside from that the holiday makers themselves could also help the hotel by binning their rubbish when its finished with, learning to queue, not picking food up with your hands when tongues and forks are available and perhaps being a little more courteous to the staff who who work long hours in the heat to make your holiday a good one.
We booked this hotel on recommendation from out local holiday company Was shown the pictures from the hotels website etc Told that a member of staff had been and reported it to be perfect So we booked
Upon arrival the reception booking in was a complete farce Over an hour to get a room key and a location Upon getting to our room the swipe cards didn't work Back to get keys reprogrammed , back of the queue again ! Room was indeed lovely
Pool was outside our balcony and looked fab That's where it ended Surface of pool was a floating skin of scum , hair and other debris I managed to scratch my foot on pool bottom and ended up with an infection costing me $928 to see doctor
Food buffet was basic to say the least , flies all over all the food ! The other restaurants are almost booked solid but are poor anyway even if you manage to get a table
The supposed free wifi is none existent unless you go to the designated area at 6am while there's signal
All the staff are helpful but look like you've asked them to do something wrong Getting drinks on English is almost impossible
The entertainment starts at 9:30 pm and is at best adult versions of kids party games
We got friendly with the animation team , best thing this resort have Real asset to them , cocci and big momma
In all I wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone Went for my 50th and was truly disappointed Save your hard earned money And go elsewhere You've been earned
