Our family had a great time on vacation. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was evident that the employees fully understood and embraced the corporate culture. On one occasion my husband and I stepped on a piece of broken glass in the pool. The life guard quickly attended to our cuts and another one immediately entered to pool to inspect for further glass. The whole situation was taken care of in less than five minutes. I would definitely recommend Riu resorts and Apple Vacations.
Overall the hotel needs a makeover. It is not comparable to the 3 other Riu Palaces I have stayed at. I found the new policy of no reservations for ala carte restaurants frustrating. Dinner became a cattle call and totally unorganized. I was unaware of this policy when scheduling the trip My biggest complaint was the total lack of enforcement of Jamaica's no smoking policy. I had to move chairs constantly at the pool, There was frequent and very open use of marijuana at the pool despite many complaints to management. It appeared no one was in charge. On a positive note the wait staff in the restaurants were wonderful especially Mario and Damion.
Can't wait to return!
Very satisfied, my first all inclusive, can't wait to go back, excellent service and staff, food selection is great, food quality was decent, beach was excellent, pools were good. My only complaint was how one had to line up for dinner in a restaurant and the vendors on beach some were aggressive, otherwise excellent place!!!
Everything was great but...
Food was good and could always find something to eat even if it was only the vegetables and the fruit. Entertainers were extremely talented but the shows were not my style. Only went to swimming pool twice and bother times the drunks were out of control. Enjoyed the beach so much more.
Awesome vacation again
Third time here all with apple vacations. Yes we will go with them again
2017 Spring Break
We stayed at the RIU Paradise in Negril and could not have been happier. Even after our first room was a "smokey mess" the staff quickly changed our room and even upgraded us to an ocean view. The food was always fresh and available. The beach was magnificent and the pool was always a fun place to be in the afternoon. We enjoyed cocktails at night while watching the dancers. The entire resort staff was accommodating and went out of their way to make us feel special.
I was understanding that when you go to a all inclusive you didn't need to tip not Jamaica -employees looking for a hand out all the time- not very friendly for sure also everywhere you turn someone trying to sell you drugs very disturbing - the Apple rep there screwed up my birthday plans- when we had them set and he insisted we change them and the tour was cancelled and then not tell us until the last minute. overall very poor country and people want you to pay for it. will never go again
Upon booking- our American Airlines flight number was VUHLEE the names traveling were:
We booked over 9 months ago- June 27.2016, and had requested three ocean front junior suites- on ground level. Bonnie Thompson had also called to ask for an anniversary themed room, and was told that it would be accommodated. When they went to their NEW room "Happy Honeymoon" was bannered across their door. Nothing on the first day. Obviously it is an anniversary not a honeymoon- but no big deal
Upon check in, we discovered that our rooms were on the second floor. After we had been told NUMEROUS times by calling the resort and our travel agent that our room would be ground level. We were told that our rooms could be moved the next day. My father in law has had a knee replacement and is unable to walk up and down steps without assistance. He said he would deal with the room for one night.
The next day two of the rooms on the first floor were available, however my fiancées and my room was not. We were told by Jadine and another girl- Sheenah? That our room would be available around 11 am on 3/11. Upon calling to check on our room it still wasn't available---around 1 pm. I called the front desk from room 6109. The girl on the telephone asked if we could pack our bags and then we would have someone come grab our bags to put them in our room. While walking out of room 6109 we received a phone call and was asked if we could put our bags into their room 6109- the anniversary room- since ours was not ready. We went up to our room 6215 and grabbed our bags and carried them down ourselves. We waited over ten minutes for help, and they had not arrived. We carried our five bags down to room 6109 and I called the front desk and was told david was on his way up to help. I told her that we had carried our OWN bags down the flights of steps and had taken care of it. We found David on the stair case upon leaving room 6109 and gave him our room keys. The front desk and David are aware that we CARRIED OUR OWN luggage down. I talked to the front desk today and they told me- that their staff stated that we did not carry our own luggage down and that the staff did. That was not the case. David had said that he would've put our bags into a closet. What closet I have no idea. So all day we had to Cary our valuables to the pool and beach.
Our room 6111 was not ready until after 4:30 that day. When we were told that our room would be ready around 11. When I finally went to get my room key, we were given duplicates to room 6110. And not ouroom. So after walking all the way to our room the keys did not work. Had to walk back to the front desk to get our new keys. We then carried our luggage again from room 6109 to 6111.
In my father in laws room 6110 there has been more issues that the front desk and the manager Andrew have been made aware of.
While my mother in law was using her hair dryer it completely burnt up. It does not work. She was in the shower yesterday and pulled the curtain down because of how slippery it is in all of our rooms. Andrew said that rubber mats will be provided in our rooms. While they attempted to watch tv the first night in their room- the tv would not turn on. Apparently the fuse is blown in the socket and every time they attempted to turn it on the entire rooms power would shut off. The front desk was notified. The tv is now plugged in- but the socket has not been fixed. this is a fire hazard and the staff obviously does not care to fix this issue.
I have enjoyed my stay, but all of these inconveniences have made our trip no where near as happy as it should've been. The front desk has done nothing but claim that their staff has not told them anything. I was basically called a liar by carrying my own luggage down- because staff claimed they carried it Dow. There was nothing that they could do and that is why I am writing this email. We have spent close to 14k on this vacation and I can be honest I will NOT be back to tropical bay palace. This is mine and my fiancée first trip out of the country and it has not been the best.
Been to a lot of inclusive, this one did NOT disappoint, only negative was the pool bar was not very clean, but the beach makes up for it. Would definitely go back again!!
would be nice to have more entertaiment
the entertainment was basically dance/musical 6 out of 7 nights, live reggae band would be nice, after all it is Jamaica
This hotel is amazing! The beach is beautiful, the grounds are well maintained, the staff is friendly & helpful. My husband & I traveled with my sister & her husband. We booked the private travel option for the ride to & from the airport. My brother-in-law accidentally left his cell phone on the shuttle after we got to the hotel. We called Apple & they took care of it. The phone was waiting for him at the front desk the next morning. Amazing service from Apple! Something like that could have ruined the vacation but Apple came thru! Thank you Apple, we will always be loyal customers!

Lovely All Inclusive Family Resort
We spent a week at Hotel Riu Palace Tropical Bay, with our 3 kids aged 24, 21 and 15. Finding a holiday that pleases all of them is a challenge and this one fitted the bill. Beautiful old colonial style resort (though I was told that they are about to update it, which I think would be a pity, because it's lovely as it is), although it was high season summer, it never felt overcrowded. Staff are warm and welcoming. Rooms - we had Junior Suites with balconies - sea views - beautiful, spacious. However our room was damp and cold. Sheets were always cold and damp, our clothes felt cold and damp after being in the drawers, and it was uncomfortable. I think our two rooms were 1212 and 1213 so try and avoid staying in those (though only one of them was damp). The view was stunning though. And the alcohol on tap was a great hit with the 24 year old. The pools are lovely, guests aren't allowed to save seats with towels so there are always deckchairs available. The beaches are stunning, the sea is clear and warm. We had a little rain each day - to be expected. It in no way impacted on our enjoyment. The main buffet restaurant for breakfast was excellent. So much choice. The lunch buffet also was fabulous - often loads of seafood, and salads, and jerk chicken bbqs on the beach, and pretty much everything else anyone could want to eat was available. The individual restaurants were not good. They are trying too hard, lack any atmosphere and the staff seem stressed and tense trying to make them something they're not. The only exception was the Bloody Bay Steakhouse which was more chilled and the lobster was good. The Japanese restaurant was really bad - sushi coated with crushed crisps, no dips, I'm not sure the chef had ever been to Japan. You can eat and drink the entire time you're there and you don't need to leave the resort, though it's nice if you can. Saying that day trips anywhere are prohibitively priced - for 5 we were looking at $800/day. Needless to say we didn't do them - most of them are boozy boat trips to waterfalls. We wanted to see a bit of off-the-beaten-track Jamaica, not just the tourists getting pissed. If you get the chance go to Zimbali Retreats - the Mountain Cooking Studio - now that is a good day out. Other info about the hotel - impossible to get bored - every type of watersport, pool and beach activities, evening entertainment every night - a great entertainments team, a great hospitality team, a spa, numerous bars, everything's included, it would be difficult to have a bad time.
My husband and I were here the 2nd week of September. Andrew at the front desk knew we were celebrating our Anniversary and upgraded us to an oceanfront room on the bottom floor, as there are no elevators and my husband has had several knee surgeries recently. Check in was fast and pleasant. The resort is older, but is kept clean. We have stayed at other Riu properties and have not been disappointed yet. There are 2 pools, one with a swim up bar. G'ivan was the best bartender there, always pleasant and friendly. The beach is the best we've seen. The water is clear and still (except during hurricane Irma). There are vendors that walk the beach, a simple no and they leave you alone. There were wait staff that delivered drinks at the beach and the pool area. Lunch time there is a jerk hut or they cooked seafood at the pool area, both were wonderful. Natherine was our server at breakfast and lunch, always there with a smile and remembering our drink orders. We are the buffet every evening, sitting in Jermaine's section. He was a fabulous server, even had a decorated table for us for our anniversary. He took excellent care of us. The food at the buffet was good, no complaints from either of us. The entertainment staff was exceptional! We've not seen shows as fabulous as these! They have such an excellent dance troupe, they seemed professional! Sweetie, Diamond & the others kept us busy during the day with games. Sweetie is excellent at her job.
We hope to return to Riu Tropical Bay in the future!
A great resort for the money
This makes the 3rd or 4th time I have stayed here and it is always good, you cannot beat the hotel for the price . I have stayed all over the Caribbean , Costa Rica and Mexico so I can compare the resort to others. This is on really nice beach and beautiful blue water and the location is close to Negril.
Check in was great as usual and fast , I would like to especially thank Andrew at front desk for going out of his way to make sure we had great trip but saying that ... they are all good at desk. We only ate at buffet and it was pretty good this time , it had something for everyone and I have no complaints.
The beach bar was much better than in past and really a good overall experience at resort . Granted the hotel is showing its age but it is still a great deal for money , we stayed at Montego Bay Riu Palace in April and we honestly liked this resort better.
I have posted this many times and you should read this .... if you want Couples or Sandals you should pay and get that , which will be double, but if you want a nice tropical resort right on Bloody Bay with nice beach that is reasonable, this is the place.
If you have any questions , just let me know and I will be happy to answer.
We picked this place because of its location and proximity to our favorite resort,Couples. The facility itself is beautiful but longing for updates in many areas.
The rooms are very outdated, from the paint to the furnishings and especially the bathrooms. The bathtub/shower is very antiquated and you almost need a step stool to get in!!!
The dining hall and restaurants are adequate and nice but again need updating. We found the food to be above average in most dining experiences and the variety offered was very good.
Kudos to the Chef!!!
Pool area is quite small even with 2 pools available and again needs updating, especially the filtration system.
Beach area was large and clean with the normal "walking merchants".
The staff was tremendous in all areas very friendly and willing to accommodate any needs. With that being said, the bartender at the lower pool bar needs some further training and encouragement.
All in all, we had a great time but probably expected a little more for the price we paid-
Luv negril more than my time in St Lucia , my and my hubby booked our stay January of this year and got a very good deal with expedia the only thing we booked separately was our private transfers and tours these were booked with TCJ Tours very friendly team you can trust them . The resort was perfect getaway for me but next time we will book in April these hurricanes can be a big let down . The beach is beautiful if it was hedo i would have made love there . The staff were very hip and had me singing to all the local songs at the bar , the nightly entertainment was great and we had allot of fun. The rooms were great i met other folks from Canada there i cant say we didnt buddy up and rock the city.
Jamaica has it all cant wait to come back next year.
