Second Stay Better than the First
When we asked our children where they would like to go over spring break they both said they would like to go back to the Riu Tropical Bay Palace in Negril because they liked the staff there so much. When we arrived were were very happy to see that all of our favorites were still at the resort, and even better yet, they remembered us. Everyone went above and beyond to treat us like family and make us as comfortable as possible. My youngest is autistic and the resort staff saw to it to make sure that he was having fun and well looked after. Our 17 year old daughter had fun as well, taking in water sports, watching entertainment, and even participating in karaoke. On our final night there we were surprised to find a table reserved for us and adorned with flowers. After dinner, our waiter presented us each with Jamaican flags. We don't take a lot of family vacations and like to spend our money wisely. We feel that this trip was well worth it! We made many priceless memories! If things work out, we'll be returning around Christmas time.
Riu Palace Jamacia
The facility appearance was very dated. The actual sleeping rooms were fabulous, housekeeping for the room was outstanding. Check-in service was terrific. Service on the beach was lacking. There was plates and cups spread around the beach with food left overs causing numerous birds to be present and walking/flying amongst the guests. The food was delicious, better than expected.
Rooms on the bck of the complex are very noisey due to the highway nearby. The TV in our room did not work and needed a new wall cable installed. There were stray cats walking around the outdoor dining area every night.
My husband and spent ten days in February at the Riu Tropical Bay Palace. It was exactly what we were looking for. When we first arrived I was a bit nervous that the swimming pool was too small but I soon realized that it was even needed because the bay was so calm and clear, much better than the pool. We have been to several all inclusive resorts over the past twenty years and we both agreed that the food was the better than most all inclusive resorts. Although, the resort is a little older we felt the entire resort was clean and well kept. The staff was amazing and a great attribute to the resort. We are already planning a return visit.
Excellent Resort! Riu Palace, Bloody Bay, Jamaica
Let me begin by stating this was our second stay at this resort. The reception/check-in was quick. We did not like our room as it was near the road. The next day we requested to be moved if there was a room available. They pleasantly agreed and moved us with no problem. All the staff are friendly, speak English and very helpful. The food is delicious whether you eat at the buffet or any of the restaurants. We appreciated that we did not need to make a reservation any longer. One just has to be in line by 6:00ish to be seated for the 6:30 serving. We sincerely enjoyed each of our meals. The beach is absolutely amazing - just can't get any better in our opinion. The sand is nice, the water is clear and beautiful. There were ample activities if you wanted to join in and fun to watch if not so included. We had breakfast one morning and talked with a couple in which this was their 18th time to the resort. It does not disappoint!!!
Riu Palace Tropical Bay
After traveling to all inclusive resorts for 24 years, we find this hotel is not rated correctly. It's rated a 6 Golden Apple but it's really more of a 5 Red. While the beach is excellent and food is very good, it is definitely lacking in service, mainly the attitude of the staff. The majority of the staff were either not friendly or indifferent. It advertises top shelf liquor but few were to be found. We could not get a mixed drink with dinner, only beer or wine. When we asked, we were told we could "get it yourself". We've never found this at any other all inclusive resorts, even 4 apple! There was only ONE bathroom for the entire beach and pool area. With 800+ people this was totally unacceptable. We feel most people used the pool and ocean for their bathroom facilities. No wonder the pool was always dirty and cloudy! For these reasons, we feel it should be rated a 5 red apple at best.
Great location in Bloody Bay, nice white sand beach, good food and service, needs better liquor selection and entertainment. Small property but very friendly.
Definitely not a 5 golden apple
This resort is beat!! It is closing for a refurbishment in 2018 but we chose this hotel based on the Apple rating and it is far from 5 golden apples! It should absolutely not be rated that. Other guests felt the same about the condition of the complex. Felt deceived by Apple and will definitely check other travel companie ratings of a resort before booking in future. A shame I love the Negril area but the only official bar area was at the lobby. There was a small bar open in the evenings and the pool bar during the day. We had to go to the other Riu Resort to watch the football playoff games as no televisions other than in your room. Riu needs to step up their games and Apple Vacations needs to give true ratings.
The staff was great and the hotel was one of the better ones in Negril. I was disappointed that I paid for an oceanview and when I asked for a second or third flor rom, I was given a partial view overlooking the dining area.
When were staying there, the GM's were there looking things over I guess. I am a server in the US and I know how we handle situations there. I happened upon on of the big shot chefs, assuming the GM chef as he was not from Jamaica, talking down to the chef working behind the pasta bar right in front of the guests. I didn't feel that this was appropriate behavoir at all. That could have been handled out of the sight of the guests and in a different place. Really made me angry.
Girls Trip 2017
I truly can't express my sincere gratefulness of this trip. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, from the booking to the food to the staff to the room was absolutely beyond any of my wildest dreams! I can't say enough good things about the entertainment staff of this hotel. They were the most hard working people I've ever met! We so enjoyed everything we experienced! I can't stop talking about it! We will certainly be back to this location sooner than later!
Our family had a great time on vacation. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was evident that the employees fully understood and embraced the corporate culture. On one occasion my husband and I stepped on a piece of broken glass in the pool. The life guard quickly attended to our cuts and another one immediately entered to pool to inspect for further glass. The whole situation was taken care of in less than five minutes. I would definitely recommend Riu resorts and Apple Vacations.

1st The Room- exhaust fans don't work. Cleaning is terrible. They stock fridge with our open bottles of soda and water and not every day. NEVER cleaned glass top tables in 8 days. Toilet paper holder fell apart and never fixed. Tissue holder never replenished even as we took the front off for leaning it was just put back on. Never swept room. Radio clock did not work so we had no music or alarm or time, etc...
2nd The Food- it was terrible. Same stuff every day, lunch and dinner. Japenese restaurant was a joke. Steak House was a joke. Italian Restaurant was awful, we got sick, many others got sick and complained. Room service has the least you can get. When we asked about getting a cup of coffee, they said we have a coffee machine. There was virtually nothing on the room service menu. Entertainment was the worst-same jungle music as 15 years ago. Some had to fight for a chair on the beach. Beach servers disappeared after offering drinks and never returned, I could go on, but my review would be a book of the Worst stay in Negril ever.
Wedding at Riu Palace Tropical Bay
Stop planning, and call Sophia at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay!
My husband and I cancelled our hall wedding and decided to get married here with a small group of family present for the special day. Sophia was an absolute pleasure to work with, she made our wedding stress free and complete perfection and allowed us to focus on getting married and not think about the details. Renova spa did my hair and they were exceptional. The minister the hotel organized was fantastic, our ceremony was beautiful! The photographer at the hotel did our pictures and they are so much better than I even imagined - I went with a list of pinterest photos to replicate and his ideas were so much better, unique and stunning. Turn around time on the photos was amazing, we selected our choices and received the edited pictures within 24 hours of the wedding - that would never have happened at home! The food was amazing, our whole party had steak and lobster, there was champagne, and even a wedding cake. The restaurant staff were so great and instructed us through all of the 'typical' wedding photos you would normally take with the cake and champagne glasses, so we really felt like we got the best of both worlds - a little tradition, but the stress free day of a destination wedding. Overall, the resort was quiet and the beach was stunning and crystal clear with no seaweed and stuff along the waters edge. Jerk chicken hut on the beach was sooo good. Look for Mario at breakfast and lunch, he's awesome! We went off the resort to Ricks' Cafe and a really nice restaurant just down the road from it (walking distance), definitely recommend this! Huge thanks to RPTB for the wedding of our dreams and an amazing vacation with our families. Can't wait to come back!
We had a great time at this resort.
We really enjoyed this resort. The beach was beautiful, people were very friendly and the food was excellent. They are doing some renovations in the fall and I'm sure it will bring everything up to excellent standards. Our room was a little dated and had a musty smell to it. Other than that there were no complaints. We would suggest that if you are renovating, some shade huts on the beach would be nice. There is some shaded area but if the resort was busy, it would have been hard to get a spot there.
Renovations Are Needed And They Are Coming
Well as renovations are coming to this tired resort this summer you only have a few months to give it a try. This was our second trip in 3 years, With the new Royalton
just down the beach they are being forced to update the resort and about time. The beach is 5 stars, one of the best in Jamaica, that's why we went. A little seaweed this time which is very unusual. The food was very good a solid 4 stars and the service 4 stars too. The rooms, we were in 1315 ocean front with a very nice view, the room is very dated, clean but very dated a 3 star, the management has done nothing over the years to keep up, example being a 22 inch t.v., pull apart beds and the grounds have been let go. So with the fact that this resort is closing for renovations they are keeping everything clean, well stocked and running very well. No way a five star resort, I gave it a 3.5 and have bumped it up to a 4 because I'm a nice guy.
