Not what the photo's show
instead of a king bed we got 2 doubles, how romantic. went to call the front desk and the phone did not work. there were no towels. After the second day, montizuma's revenge and the Apple Rep say'sno over the counter must see the doc$$. on the last day, I find the anti-med in the store downstairs. It is an illusion.
This hotel was not one of the fancier ones in Punta Cana, but the description given is spot on. Pictures are exactly what is shown. It has everything you need. It is well kept, clean and everything to keep you entertained. We would definitely stay at this location again. In a previous review it mentioned the elevators not working properly, that is true also. The worked for most of the time. They were slow and small. They also were very hot inside of them. But your only in them that long. Overall it was a great experience. I would also recommend this location.
No return to Barcelo
Other than our Bellman, Waitress, and Towel Boy, the service was awful! We were watched and followed at the Gift Shops. We asked if additional merchandise was available in back, the worker said maybe. We asked if she could check and she said no. We asked our kids to put everything down, that we would not buy anything while she was working. The staff in the Buffet was awful! Not friendly, not helpful. The staff in the sit down restaurants were very nice and helpful.
Good food, bad room experience.
We had water leaking out of the bathroom ceiling for more than 4 days. I asked twice for room change and it was denied. We did not have clean towels in the room for 3 days and our complementary bottles of water were never refilled.
The beach was beautiful and loved access to the beach equipment, chairs were always available. The food was mostly unrecognizable to Americans, theme nights were not relevant at all. Restaurant staff seemed to ignore us most of the meals, very rarely were we served drinks - we had to help ourselves when others all around us would be served. Check-in was the most unorganized process I have ever experienced, very poor first impression of the hotel staff! It seemed to us that the only way to get service or help was banging on the counter and speaking loudly lin Spanish. Room attendants didn't understand that a group of 4 people needed 4 towels and 4 washcloths every day - we would have to go get our own every day. Nightly entertainment was a joke - same dances/moves each night just a change of costume - not entertaining! The pools were beautiful and the 2 staff running the "Aerobics" were a lot of fun! If you just want the beach and pool they were wonderful!
Great potential but lackluster service
The hotel, grounds, pool and beach were beautiful, but service was highly lacking. The rooms were fine, but could use some updating, improvements and general cleaning.
It was an OK experience
The Hotel advertised 7 restaurants only 3-4 were open .... You had to make reservations... They served the same type of food in the buffet everyday .... Our hotel room at cockroaches coming from the restroom..
Don't believe all the negative reviews!
First of all, don't believe all the negative reviews. This place was exactly what you pay for and then some and I would most definitely go back! These people that are complaining have champagne taste on a beer budget. There wasn't any problem with checking in and we were greeted by smiling employees and a waitress brought us all a drink while we were waiting. They directed us to our room (2303) which was beautiful just like the pictures on their website. The resort is good size but after a day you know where everything is so it's not that difficult to figure out. Food is decent and out of 6 of us none of us got sick.. This was our first time staying at an all inclusive but from what I've gathered from friends the food is like that at pretty much any resort. The Japanese restaurant was by far the best and the waiter and chef were hilarious! If you're expecting a waitress to follow you around and get you drinks every 5 mins, you need to go to a $6k+ resort where they do that. There are bars everywhere and if you're too lazy to walk 5 steps to get your own drink, you need to go to a more expensive resort.
The drinks are by no means watered down..One drink and you'll be feeling good! Tip a couple dollars and it'll go a long way. As far as staff being rude..We never came across a single rude person. Everyone was awesome and always had a smile on their face. And remember, these people work 16+ hours a day and NEVER stop and they are still very friendly!! Yes, many of them don't speak very good English but these people have to learn several different languages! If they don't understand what you're asking, they'll find someone else who does.
The pools are amazing, the beach was amazing, the grounds and the entire place are very clean and there are constantly people working and maintaining the property.
Again, if you are expecting the Ritz, spend the money and go to the Ritz. This vacation was worth every penny spent. I have 0 compalints with Barcelo Punta Cana!
Side-note: We did not purchase internet because we wanted to enjoy ourselves and be disconnected. The other two couples that we were with purchased it and it worked all week with no problems.
Room Tip: Our rooms were in buildings 2 and 3 which is quieter on that end of the resort

Stayed April 2016, traveled as a couple
Great Spring Break Destination - But not for families... and have to work to understand service expectations.
Too much weight and preference given to spring break college students. Very loud and too much of a party atmosphere. As a paying family, we felt like we did not matter. Late night partying and constant loud music grew tiring. We were told this was not a "big" spring break destination. Nothing could be further than the truth. Had to ask for cleaning service 4 of the 7 days. Did not know what to expect and had inconsistent messaging on making dinner reservations. Staff was overall not helpful here. No snacks available. Resort was not interested in customer service.
The entertainment team was amazing! So fun and made the trip that much better! I didn't want to leave!
The expectations we had set according to the information on the Apple Vacation website were high and when we arrived each one was met. We had a great time and the apple reps before leaving and while on vacations did a great job making sure we were completely satisfied. I will always recommend Apple Vacation. Very impressed and happy.

Occidental Caribe is perfect!!
we stayed at the Occidental Caribe for 10days!! All Inclusive! It was amazing. we had a room facing the ocean view! Buffet was delicious with everyday different menus! The restaurants were amazing! There was entertainment, casinos, and a club, theatre. you can not be bored with all this fun! We booked our excursions from the resort. The pools are beautiful as so is the beach, where we spent most of our time. The best of all is that for all this the price is so reasonable. We will be back!
It was a great trip and I will recommend anyone. If it wasn't for the hurricane I think it would've been a much better trip. I really enjoy it and I am looking forward to return again. The staffs were excellent.
This was a horrible choice for our honeymoon. Staff were rude and not helpful. There were many times that we asked for items to be replenished and they said they would but it never happens. The food was awful. There wasn't much variety on the buffet and the a la carte restaurants weren't much better. The staff was not friendly and would just point instead of offering directions. The property also has times shares and those individuals hang out by the buffet at all meal times and harass you about going to a presentation non stop.

Stayed at the Occidental Caribe hotel Monday September 11, 2017. Upon arrival we were surprised to see that the main pool and the kids water park were under renovation which was the only reason why i choose this hotel. Spoke with the Air Canada representative Carlos who arranged for a free upgrade to the Barcelo Bavaro Palace resort. Thank you Carlos. You saved my vacation.
As far as this hotel, on my very short stay, i noticed really old facilities, leaky bathroom ceilings, less than average food. Some waitress and bartenders were not friendly at all
Overall this hotel might have been decent back in the day but it needs some serious upgrades and maintenance.
