Poolside staff lead games were too loud and too long. You could hear it on the beach so it was not relaxing for me.

Nice place although they had lots of construction going on. I feel like I should have been made aware of this and moved to a different villa. Long waits at some of the restaurants, but the food is all good so it was worth the wait. Clean beaches although there is a lot of seaweed (that does get cleaned up in the morning). Make sure you bring water shoes to get in the ocean as it is very rocky for the first 50ft or so. Overall would go again and recommend when they are not doing major construction.

Pleasant Stay with a Beautiful Beach

The resort was conveinently located in the Puerto Adventuras area which offers a multitude of activities, wildlife, and activities. The resort was just a short walk away from the l;little village, shopping area and the Dolphin Experience, which was really cool. The beach and reef just steps off the beach were amazing. We spent numerous hours snorkeling with the snorkels we brought ourselves. We ran across, rays, puffer fish, barracudas, star fish and an array of unique sea life. The beach and reef alone were worth the whole price of the stay. Just walking around the resort daily we also came across, Spider monkeys, plenty of geckos, iguanas, and other interesting creatures and plants. The rooms were good and clean, food and restaurant options were awesome, We spent 6 nights and never ran out of different delectable options to dine on. The excursions we took we also fantastic! Puerto Adventuras is just a 20 minute taxi ride from all of the shopping and amentities of Playa del Carmen. The transfers were quick, staff all very polite and a very accommodating Apple Vacations representative at the hotel every day! I was once again VERY VERY happy with all of Apple Vacations staff, booking process, and total package value! I definitely recommend the Catalonia Resort and Apple Vacations!

Our family of four traveled to Catalonia for 7 days and had a great time! The staff was so welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed all of the restaurants and buffets. The entertainment staff was excellent and the kids were never bored. The only downside is there is not much of a beach but it was swimmable for the kids and there were quite a few fish we saw while snorkeling. Highly recommend this resort and we will definitely be back!

The theater was too hot to stand--we went to one live performance, and they were good, but the heat was too much. It seemed everyone was expecting a tip all teh time. The beach was very rocky into and out of the water. The "mercado" wa horrible! We had to run the gauntlet every night to get to dinner. The vendors were aggressive, even following after you! When we didn't stop to look, a vendor insulted us saying "You don't like Mexicans!" We did not expect so many opportunities to be parted from our money on top of the cost of the trip.

The staff are fantastic! Very nice, very friendly. There are a couple of things to point out before you book your stay: 1. There is a beach, but the sand does not go into the water. Once in the water the bottom is very rocky. 2. You will get harassed to go to a presentation on how to become an Elite member at least twice a day. 3. Food is excellent, sooooo many choices you will love the food. 4. The staff is extremely friendly and very pleasant to talk to. 5. Dive shop is very nice, knowledgeable and tons of great diving very close. Some you can walk right to the marina and hop on the boat. Less than 5 min walk. 6. There is a small community called Adventurs Plya with a few resorts, shopping, condos and homes. You can ride the free bikes all over the little community. 7. The resort and grounds are immaculate! They keep it extremely nice and clean. 8. Apple will not tell you (not sure why...) when you arrive in Cancun you will go through customs, then get your luggage, then you need to go outside the airport to find out what bus or van to get on. There are people in the airport that look like they are there to help you, but they just wan to waste a bunch of your time trying to sell you excursion packages. Keep walking to go outside and find someone in an apple shirt and ask them what bus or van to get on.

A good resort with a few problems

January 3-10 my entire family went over all we all had a good time. This is a great resort for the price and family friendly. We didn’t really like how you could only eat at the nice restaurants a certain number of times. The buffets we okay el Mercado was by far the best with the biggest selection of food. The creperie was not good the crepes we rubbery and there wasn’t enough in them. The best restaurants are the Mexican and the Toppas roof top restaurants. The staff at the resort is amazing all extremely friendly. The night shows were okay and there’s not much night entertainment witch was fine for us. There is a sectioned off part of the ocean that is a coral reef that is owned by the Mexican government witch you aren’t suppose to go in but it was not labeled. If you wanna rent their kayaks there’s normally a wait. The pools were kept cold. We spent one day at Xcaret witch was really fun and the resort offered a taxi for a set price but make sure to take a photo of the set price so they charge you extra. The rooms could use some upgrading but you aren’t in the room much. One bigger issue was the toilet wouldn’t always flush and we were on 4th floor and we ran out of water in the shower like every 5 minutes witch was really annoying. Really enjoyed the catamaran rides they offered.

Ok for the right price

We stayed here at the start of the year. When booking we’d booked a room with two double beds but on arrival we were shown to a room with a king sized bed. Not a big issue really, the room was nice and looked like it had just been refurbished but being two males we rang reception to ask for a room with two double beds. We were then taken to the other side of the hotel where the rooms hadn’t been upgraded yet. Unlike the last room this one was very old with poor lighting and even poorer facilities. The shower broke on the first day so we had to call maintenance. Day 2 we went to use the shower and again the pin had broken so we had to have a bath. We called maintenance out a further two times before they finally fixed the problem. Staying on the showers, the hot water was intermittent throughout our stay. One of us also got a little electric shock from the hairdryer as they use normal plugs in the bathrooms. Having stayed in worse places it was bearable but having seen what rooms others were getting for paying the same as we did added a little salt to the wound. The food was ok, after eating the buffet food for a few days everything seemed to taste the same but the omelettes for breakfast were good. The restaurants were nothing special and you either have to get there really early or really late.Although it’s all inclusive you seem to have to “bribe” the bar staff to get the nicer alcohol and larger measures. The beer and cocktails are served in little cups that will be refilled but tip the bar staff a few $ and you won’t be able to drink them fast enough. Tip him enough and you might actually get a glass to drink out of. It’s important to remember that whatever tip you give only lasts for that day. When you next go to the bar you will be served in plastic glasses until you drop another large tip on the bar. You will get local spirits without a tip but the more you tip the better the spirit you get. It might be a Mexican thing but personally I thought all inclusive meant that everything was already paid for. These tips soon add up too. If you don’t tip the service isn’t great nor are the measures. The same goes with the cleaners. If you tip the cleaners daily they make animals out of the towels and give you lots of bottled water but no tip no extras. The cleaners do however do a good job regardless. The daytime entertainment is very repetitive in the day if you’re chilling by the pool.It seems to be the same music every day, over and over. I know the review might sound negative but if you can get the hotel for a good price that you think is a bargain then it’s worth visiting. All the little niggles are bearable as long as you haven’t paid too much for the holiday.Just be prepared to tip all the staff and when booking request that you stay in one of the newer rooms.

My 2nd visit to this gated community in Puerto Aventuras There are a few hotels to stay in. They range from all inclusive to B&B. The hotel was good. Room needed a refresh. Food excellent with great choices in the various International restaurants. More of a family hotel so not a good choice if you want peace and quiet The marina area is interesting although not a fan of Dolphins etc in captivity. Dived with Dive Aventuras who are a top dive outfit looking after their clients every need.

The resort was incredible!!! The staff were super amazing and very friendly and entertaining. I loved all the food selections and they even had gluten free options. There are so many restaurants and even 5 pools. The mini club (Staff Erik stood out and made my son comfortable there) and evening entertainment was above expectations. I loved the options of the two beach areas and lagoon. Great location near all the attractions. The only negative would be that the beds are not very comfortable. I would highly recommend this resort to family and friends and would go back in a heart beat. Thanks for the amazing family vacation.
