Love Riu
Dec 05 2017
This is our second time staying at Riu Playacar but our third time with a Riu resort. I love that they have activities throughout the day for everyone. My kids are teenagers and are very active. They don't just want to lounge by the pool or the beach, so having volleyball, football in the sand, water polo, etc. keeps them entertained. The shows in the evening are excellent. We have never felt the need to leave the resort but we do like to explore things about the countries we are visiting. We went to Xei Ha and it was exceptionally beautiful!! would totally go there again.

Riu Playacar

Overall the hotel was good but we are not likely to return. We previously have stayed at both Palace resorts and they are much better. We had ants in our room the entire trip and the food was hit or miss. One night we ate had bad fish (smelled rotten) but thankfully did not get sick. The beach and staff are excellent! On a separate note we were disappointed by how apple vacations handled the luggage prepayments. We were never informed that you have a couple of days preflight to pay for them or you have to pay directly with Frontier at an upcharge. We felt that since this is an all inclusive package out of the country at a minimum carry ons should be included in price.

Not The Last
Oct 16 2017
This was our first all inclusive vacation and we chose Riu Playacar based on price and reviews. We were not in anyway disappointed. The hotel staff were all outgoing and helpful, the facilities were clean and constantly kept that way, the hotel room was comfortable and very well appointed with new fixtures, and the pool facilities were top notch. I was so pleased with our stay that I am already looking for a return trip.

The resort and staff was top notch. Very friendly and clean. The food could have been a little better. It was kinda getting old eating the same stuff day after day.

First class experience for our first visit
Apr 01 2017
This was my first trip booked through Apple Vacations as well as to Mexico. I could not have asked for a better experience. Starting from the booking of the trip to the transportation, to the hotel itself, the trip was perfect. The staff at Riu Resorts was so accommodating, I don't think I have seen a cleaner hotel and facility. The entertainment staff was so fun and overall, it made this a vacation I will never forget. Thank you so much to Apple Vacations and Riu Resorts.

Riu Playa, Great trip
Mar 26 2017
My wife and I spent 7 nights with 3 other couples at the Riu Playa from March 17 to 24th. I would recommend this resort to anyone on a budget that still wants the 5 star treatment. The hotel is not a 5 star resort but, for the price of a 7 night trip, it is perfect! Rooms, pool area, beach are great. Workers are very happy and always willing to help. No major issues for any of the 4 couples during the week. My biggest complaint was the food was never hot. Luke warm most of the time. However, the food was good (not great, good). Compared to other resorts in Cancun, the Riu food is top notch. We have been to Mexico/Cancun approx. 10 times and we will be returning to the Riu. Most likely the Riu Palace next time so we can have room service. Again, great value!!

We loved the size of the hotel. We loved the daily activities and the size of the pools. The only thing we didn't like was the food. We didn't starve but everything seemed to be overlooked and dry. If you could put the Riu Yucatn food in the playacar it would be the perfect place.

Great place to stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They work extremely hard. Lots of fun activities you can get involved in or you could just relax and enjoy the sun. The beach was well taken care of. The food was good, a bit repetitive but enough of a variety for everyone to find something they'd like. Unfortunately, my wife got food poisoning for the last 36hrs of our vacation. She thinks it was from the salad. We met another gentleman who also got food poisoning and thought it was from the salad. It may have been rinsed in no potable water. So skip the salad!

Arrived via Premium Club flight from Gatwick. Worth the upgrade. Excellent attentive service from cabin crew and comfortable seats. On arrival at the Riu Playacar, Vidal checked us in. You pay tax on arrival of about 50$ per person. We were given fruit juice during check n. Vidal was lovely and asked where we would like our room. After discussion he suggested Block 5 as it was nearer to the beach and further from reception. Great call. We stayed in room 5318 ( top floor was our choice), which was just at the top of the stairs (note no lifts). Room was lovely, big and spotless. Nicely decorated. We noted on day 2 that when guests left 5317, decorators entered and touched up the room. Good to see they maintain standards. We had a view over the main avenue to the pools, our room was on the best side of this block. No afternoon sun but really not a problem when it’s so warm anyway. Teodore kept our room immaculate during our stay, thank you Pool areas were spotless too. We used the main pool ( to the right when walking towards beach) and also the pool bar. We sat on the patio area near beach (lowest level) for easy use of the pool bar. Staff were great. Constantly bring drinks whether you have asked or not. Lively music which we normally hate but it’s such a lovely vibe at the hotel is was enjoyable. The beach was amazing. No shortage of sun beds. Waiter service. Soft white sands from the hotel all the way into the sea. No seaweed or shell in the sea. Lovely warm water. Plenty of big waves and shallow waters. The best beach we have been on. There is yoga, aerobics and fun games to take part in if you wish. Kayaks, catamaran and jet ski hire available too. Buffet restaurant can not be faulted. No end of choice. Freshly cooked omelette and eggs for breakfast amongst a choice that was endless. Good choice of teas x coffee. Courteous staff. Great for evening meals too. Freshly cooked meats x fish, there were salads, vegetables, soups, pastas, pizzas the list is endless. We preferred the buffet restaurant. The Italian was so-so,,, the Mexican was not good at all. Starters were good but we waited about 30 mins for mains and when they did arrive they were stone cold! I think there was confusion in the kitchen to be honest. A shame, but never mind. We just decided to stick with the buffet from there on as you can’t go wrong Honestly have no other complaints. Staff were amazing and there was a good mix of guests in terms of age and nationalities. Plenty going on all the time if you wish to join in but no pressure if you didn’t want to ( we didn’t but was nice to observe) Check out was efficient. We paid $10 to keep our room til 1pm. our cases were collected from our room and taken to the luggage room at 12.50pm. Transfer back to the airport was straightforward. You pay tourist tax of 1270 Mexican pesos in the check-in queue. Note you can pay in sterling £50 or US$ 50 also, but you cannot mix currencies. Fantastic flight home Will definitely return to this hotel

All-inclusive getaway on perfect beach

This was a 5 day couples getaway for us, and they gave us a family room with 3 separate beds when we had asked for a king. They rectified it the next day, but a little frustrating. The new room was very nice. The only issue was the smell of mold/mildew. This might just be me, as I'm very sensitive to odors. We left the sliding door open all night and the fresh air was great. Only saw one mosquito the whole time. Third floor room not a problem for us. We enjoyed the family atmosphere and the buffet was very good. I was somewhat apprehensive of an all-inclusive that included unlimited alcohol, but never saw anyone drunk. The drinks were delicious with minimal alcohol and great service. Spa massage very nice. The beach was amazing!! Rows of tall palm trees with chaise lounges all around. A dream come true for me. Drinks offered by wait staff all day on the beach and by the pool. Sorry, no hot tub. For me, the bonus of a Starbuck's RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET was super! Best mocha I've ever had. The walk into town through nice neighborhoods was great. This was a deal through Delta which included airport transportation. Ivan was super, but the guy who took us back to the airport dropped us at the wrong terminal. They took care of it quickly and we made our flight. Short but great getaway!

I loved this hotel, stayed 2 weeks and got back on 15 Jan, pools were good beach was amazing food was plentiful sometimes needed to be a little hotter but all well cooked, the staff never stopped. Stayed in block 8 on 3rd floor( no lift but only 41 steps) and room was nice, the only complaint about the whole resort is the connecting doors, it’s a single thin door so you hear everything in the next room, surely every room doesn’t need to connect, get rid of some, Edvardo who looked after our room was the best and Willy in restaurants was always on the ball great place just sort the doors

Best Christmas Family Vacation

Stayed at the Riu Playacar over Christmas, and had the time of our lives! The service, food, entertainment was perfect, and the visit from “ParaSanta” made it unforgettable. My children adored the RiuLand staff, and us adults thoroughly enjoyed the games of beach volleyball and acquarobics. I really appreciated the Buffet set up. My 5 year old is a picky eater, So I was grateful for the kid friendly options being available next a wide selection of exquisite adult fare. We will return soon!

A very nice place

A good mid class place. Small in the midst of a huge complex. The rooms are fine. The food is good. Service is also very good. The Italian restaurant in the lobby is very nice. Great beach. A nice place for a daytime walk into town.
