From the moment I walked into the resort it was one disappointment after the next. The check-in process is slow and the staff are rude. The reservation process for dinner is complicated and if you arrive to the resort after 3pm you cannot make reservations. Everything was so, so dirty. SO dirty. Fixtures rusted through, ceilings full of water and mold, falling-apart furniture, it was a true mess. I have picture of all of this - and will be emailing Apple to go into detail since this isn't the half of it. Very, very disappointed.
Barcelo Dominican Beach Resort
The resort itself was okay. We had a few issues with our rooms (4 in total) that were in need of attention. Our bathroom ceiling was leaking from the above A/C unit which left our bathroom floor very wet and slippery. We were moved to the room next door. Two days later that bathroom ceiling was leaking from the above A/C unit! We let the front desk know but I don't think anyone ever came to look at it. We were to the end of our stay so not sure what was done about that leak. Another room in our party had A/C issues (it was not working) and after commenting three times that was finally repaired. I understand that this particular resort has recently been sold and there are plans to close it for remodeling/rebuilding. Some of the areas are in need of upgrading. That being said.... The beach area was always cleaned early morning of seaweed and it was a beautiful beach.
good hotel, no hot water
room had an excellent hot tub, but there was no hot water. The mini bar had nothing in it, couldn't get any thing put in it, mini bar = 0
Relax!!!! You have come to the right place....
You have chosen the best resort where nature is at very best and its at ocean front. Service and cleanliness is extraordinary...throughout the resort. Food choices are great for any nationality. Spent 3 days with full fun under the sun. 86-90 degree in November. yes that's right.
Disappointed with Apple vacation representative
The majority of time when I travel I do it through Apple VAcation and have always been happy this time it was disappointing no one at airport waiting the way they usually are had to ask someone else for assistant, didn't see the rep. Until 3 days after I arrived and my confirmation for pick back to the airport was never confirmed nor was the book update with the correct information I was in the lobby since 1:30 thinking they are comin at 2 and I had to gave the receptionist call find out what time they were coming for me. Very disappointed.
Would not recommend
We went to this all inclusive for our honeymoon...turned out to be the worse trip we have ever been on. When we arrived we were brought to our ocean view honeymoon suite room, that the guy had a hard time even getting open, the room smelt musty, the toilet seat was broken and falling off, the safe was rusted and loose from the wall, the lamp shades seemed to have mold on them, the patio door lock was broken and would not lock, the mini fridge was broken and rusted and the hallways leading to our room was very dirty. Once we put in a complaint about the room, they said they had to downgrade us. Our second room was better then the first but still far from satisfactory. The main pool at the resort (with the swim up bar) was empty and getting repairs, the beach was full of seaweed and cigarette butts and we were consistently being asked to buy things by various vendors. The food at the resort was gross and the restaurants were dirty. We both got very sick while there and ended up coming home 4 days early. This resort is very falsely advertised.

I am very satisfied, my Vacations was extra, real paradise, low price for 7 day vacation, less than $ 1000, flight from Chicago to Punta Cana. Transfer from Airport to Hotel was fine. People are very friendly and they providing the best service. My hotel Barcelo Dominican Beach was 10 minutes from airport. Check in was about 2 minutes, check out also about 2 minutes. Most tourist from Easter Europe, Russian, and also Germans, 95 % Russian friendly Resort. I did meet anyone from USA. I had a room next to swimming pool block number 8. Inside room is old TV and small fridge, some sprite, coca cola and Alaska water. Huge king size bed. Phone, AC was great, no internet because was very expensive. I slept very well. Restaurants are good, buffet food was good. Customer service very good. Local People from Barcelo Resort speaks Russian, some German, French and Spanish. Front desk employees kind and helped me a lot. There is ATM machine inside hotel but international fees are about $4. You can buy internet access is $30 for 7 days. Bathroom was nice. I met some wonderful Dominican Republic Girls from Santo Domingo. Disco during night time from 11pm-2am. electric outlets same like in USA. You can pay with $ American or Peso or Euro Currency. I like this place very much. No Air conditioner inside buffet. Buffet is open. No problems at all. I was there alone and I had a great time. I am Polish and I have different point of view for standards in hotel. I will recommend this Barcelo Dominican Beach to anyone. Cheap vacation with airfare included. United Airlines flight was very good. I want to go there one more time. A+++
Good place to stay, but not a lot to do!!
We did go in the off season however there was not a lot to do, pool bars close at 6pm, they play the same 2 songs over and over for the entire 7 days we were there! 3 of the 7 days they had locals selling stuff at the hotel, not just in one place but half the facility, so with that, you are constantly being hounded from them. Room wasn't ready when we got there so after 12 hours of travel we had to wait and additional hour in a half for a room. The buffet was the exact same everyday, nothing thrilling but when you are hungry you will eat, I was there 2 years ago at a different resort and absolutely loved it!! I'm sorry to say I wouldn't go back and don't expect to see an apple vacation rep because they never came back to the resort dyer they dropped us off at the hotel!! Not good business!!
We had trouble with the shuttle service as soon as we arrived. Check in was a disaster... Took forever... The hotel, not so clean and the food was horrible. To end a bad vacation, the shuttle never picked us up from the hotel, we paid for a taxi and still missed our flight and had to spend a night at the airport and get the next flight out. Overall, the worst trip ever taken.
Bathroom - ceiling leaked, all contents were soaked. Forced to move to new room.
New Room - balcony slider did not open/close, TV cable was in/out, toilet didn't flush.
Beach - weeds were never raked in the morning, always messy.
Food - lunch areas beyond general buffet only served hamburgers, hotdogs, fries and pizza...not a lunch of choice when at beach or otherwise.
Electricity - went without electricity all day, coming on at 11PM, ate dinner at buffet but could barely see food to make a plate, had to be escorted back to room in dark, only had a candle in room, no A/C even after it came on, had to call room service for repair.
Front Desk - employees extremely slow, long waits in line.
Internet - paid $30 for week, didn't work, took 4 trips to desk for reimbursement.
Excursion - scheduled zipline tour, rescheduled due to rain, Donny simply moved appointment without checking system, once arrived was told it was not offered that day, instead had to do Buggies.
Hotel is pretty russian oriented. Russians very pushy and rude. Food was poor.
