Apple Vacations Traveller Reviews
The vacation from hell
Lets start with transportation. Don't take the Apple Vacation provided airport to hotel transportation. The transportation is not exclusive to your hotel, it can be any hotel property. We spent hours in a hot uncomfortable van. The actual ride is 45 minutes from Cancun Airport to Riu Palace Mexico, and the cost is only $40USD. Upon arrival the hotel front desk staff was highly inattentive, there were 6 hotel staff at the desk, but only one of those people were checking people in. There was only one other couple checking in and at the desk in general. The desk staff ignored us as we waited approximately 15 minutes to be served. During that time any one of the staff members could have discontinued what they were doing to acknowledge us or inform us that we were waiting for the one staff member checking people in. Once attended to, we were upgraded to a jacuzzi room. Our room was great looking, however over the course of our stay we learned it's downfalls. First of all the room would never cool below 24 degrees celsius, or 75 degrees Fahrenheit. There was a ceiling fan but when on high overnight to provide comfort, it dried out our eyes and sinuses. The tub, shower, and sinks were all crusted with hard water scale. The property should take better care of weekly maintenance to prevent this. We had to clean our shower's rainfall water head in order for it to spray a normal pattern. The sinks were almost unusable as the mesh diffusers were caked with water scale that beyond a trickle the water sprayed all over the counter. The tub was unusable as it produced a very disgusting tub filled with brown water which left a ring on the tub. The food and dining staff were excellent! The drinks seemed a bit watered down, had to order doubles, and most soft drinks from the fountain were flat. Look for the bottled soft drinks. The beach was meticulously maintained and a walk down the coast showed the staff kept up on the seaweed maintenance. Unfortunately we met the hotel doctor during our visit due to a fall. The entire place is tile and combined with evening humidity is very slick. If you need to see the doctor be sure to have cash, and even though the doctor is RIU staff, you can't charge his $140USD fee to your room.
Have been here numerous times
We have stayed at this resort at least 12 times. Always had good service. We have known most of staff all this time and they always remember you and what your likes are.
Seems the quality of linens, towels have declined. Resort is also showing age even though it was updated a few years back. We will still visit here and have always been pleased with RIU Chain hotels esp Palace level
Great service, great people
The people at Riu Palace Mexico were fabulous, friendly and helpful every day and provided excellent serve with a smile daily !
So far this has been the best hotel I've stayed at since coming to Mexico. The staff went above and beyond to make sure you were happy. The pool was clean. The beach was beautiful! It was a great place to come to relax and forget about your stress for a week.
Review about hotel
The hotel was absolutely beautiful - the food however needs some flavor. There was no flavor to the food at all.
Over The Top
The Riu Palace, Tiviera Maya - Mexico were efficient, courteous and pleasant from the time we checked our part of 9 into the hotel until we checked out 7-days later. The catered to every need and request. The staff was proactive in providing the type of service that you dream about 51 weeks a year.
My family and I had a wonderful getaway! Apple took care of everything! Our hotel was gorgeous and the entire staff was very pleasant and went out of their way to accomadate us. We are already talking about planning a return trip for February 2018 bit for a few days more. Apple was point on and we felt like royalty! The food was delicious and the resort was spotless. We highly recommend booking with Apple vacations, they definitely took great care of us! Thank you Apple vacations, we look forward to booking our next adventure with you!
Second trip to Rui Palace Mexico
Great resort, great staff and great beach. We will most likely be back for a third time. Really appreciate the fact you no longer need reservations for the specialty restaurants.
My biggest issue was with the spa. It was as if they had zero training or knowledge of massges.
I thought the Riu Palace Mexico was fantastic! The lobby, pools, bars, and beach were outstanding! My only negative critique is that my husband and I were not aware that men must wear pants to the restaurants on site. He did not bring any pants at all therefore we would not enjoy dining at any of the restaurants. How sad!
Riu Palace Mexico
I thought the décor at this hotel was very gawdy. Although I understand why the hotel room was set up as it was, I did not like having an open bathtub in the middle of the room. Although the toilet area was very small. The cleaning products used had a very unpleasant order and the smell permeated through the room consistently.

What can I say?
Been to a few all inclusive places but this takes the grand price. Superfriendly staff, loads, and I mean loads of food all day around. On top of that, as a former darts player, lager 24/7...
The rooms may perhaps not be 5 star but they are good enough for me anyway.
Nice Being Back
Our return to RIU Palace Mexico was great. We were greeted warmly by the doorman, Manuel. Next, Omar at the front desk went well out of his way to help us. Food and drinks were ggood and the beach was outstanding. We needed a little help finding something in town and now Diana in Customer Services came to our assistance. All staff were like this. Got special treatment for a birthday in our group from Antonio in the buffet along with a number of folks from the entertainment staff as they sang Happy Birthday for our friend.
We stayed at this resort last year, we had a group of 15 and four rooms. The food was good, pools and beach were all good. Not over crowded. The resort was relaxed and not a party house like Riu Cancun. Overall we had a great stay, we all had to upgrade our rooms from main level to second level as the rooms were musty and dark.
Excellent apart from Oscar the entertainment manager who doesn’t seem to like the British
Just come back from 10 days and this is our 2 nd stay at this hotel within a year
The hotel and grounds are beautiful
The food is fantastic and the staff work so hard and are always pleasant
But the one thing that really has got to me on both occasions is Oscar the entertainment manager who now I feel is a little bit against the British
He calls out every every evening different countries to find out where guests are from and every evening he failed to call out United Kingdom even when people called out to him the uk
He did the same last year and this time round and sitting by the pool this time the British guests were extremely unhappy about this .
He would say every country possible but NOT United Kingdom especially when the majority of the guests there were British
A game by the pool one morning was shouting out the names of the song and band it was clear he purposely decided not to hear the British guests only other nationalities
Again when they got men to go on stage it was never a British guest there seemed to of been a pattern going on whenever Oscar was around
Would I stay at this hotel again well I’d love to but sadly not why the entertainment manager feels he has the right to treat the British with less dignity than other guests
All other members of staff showed the upmost respect to you whatever nationality you were
Nice beach and resort, rooms and service ok
I've been staying at resorts up and down this area for the past 10 years. In the last two years, we've had kids so no longer staying at the adults only resorts. For a place that allows kids, this resort is one of the nicer ones. The food was great with the buffet being our go-to place for dinners because it had the most option. We tried the other restaurants on site but it was slow and overcooked our food. Really, the buffet is the best here and thursday nights they have lobster and better cuts of beef.
Rooms - If you have a stroller or need an elevator, you are going to want to stay on the first floor as they only have like 2 elevators (by the front lobby area only) and it's really inconvenient to get to unless your room is right next to it. The downside is, the first floor is loud and you can hear people walking by and moving furniture above you. The rooms aren't the nicest we've stayed in, but it's still roomy enough. They do a good job of cleaning the rooms. Restocking the fridge was hit or miss sometimes despite the fact that we tipped. Overall, rooms were decent and we had no issue with it.
Beach - it's definitely one of the nicer stretches of beach in the area with a lot of palm trees for shade and plenty of chairs although they won't let you pull them closer to the water. No rocks to worry about either. Really nice beach.
Service - Again, hit or miss. Overall not the best service. We asked for water bottles at the bar when our room was not restocked for a day or so and room service still kept forgetting and the bartender was acting like he was giving up gold and being very suspicious of us and our water needs? Very strange. We tipped everyone all the time, but honestly, I don't feel like it made a big difference in service or it depends on the person. They weren't the friendliest staff, but maybe we went right around the new year and they felt overworked?? I don't know, it wasn't a big issue for us, just noting that they weren't the friendliest or most accommodating staff.
They have a 30 minute kid show every night that is great for kids to get up and dance. The place is fairly quiet at night in terms of entertainment.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and it was nice that it's close to the shopping area and you can go out of the hotel to safely explore other riu hotels.
