We've visited a Barcelo in Costa Rica 4 times.

3 times in Playa Langosta, 1 in Tambor. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the beach is great, and the food is very good. The staff are very capable and friendly. The Barcelo definitely has a Costa Rican flavor that we really enjoy.

At arrival we were assign a room that had mold on the ceiling, the Swiss Travel Rep was nice enought to help us get another room. no mold, but not very clean. You also had to keep one of the 2 room cards you were given to keep light and ac attached to the monitor at all times. The food was the same every night, rice and beans and chorizos, pork, chicken or bad steak. The Wi fii that we paid for was turn off the 2nd day, and can only be used at one device at a time. We would ask for towels for the room, they never had clean towels available. The only good thing at this resort was the alcohol and fresh fruit at the bar.

We really loved it. With friendly staff, excellent food, very very clean, awesome mountain views, the beach was a stone throw from the hotel pool. We could sit at tables in the pool bar and look out at the ocean. Really lovely sunsets and postcard perfect views.

We really enjoyed our week at the Barcelo. We would return and recommend it to others. I believe the resort carries a 4 Star rating and that is probably accurate; however, we were completely satisfied with the amenities and food. We were not notified about our departure details as promised. We called on our own and obtained the information.

This is my 2nd time staying at the Barcelo. This is a good affordable all-inclusive hotel. The buffet gets old after awhile but most buffets are average. We like this resort as it is close to town. Most of the other all inclusive resorts are far away.

Seven dollars for half liter of water at gift shop - we won't be staying

Stopped at the Occidental today for a possible future stay. The grounds were very nice and the pools were beautiful. Staff was polite. Stopped at the lobby gift shop for an ordinary bottle of water, nothing fancy. The attendant scanned the bottle and said 7.50. I said 7.50 dollars in disbelief and he repeated it. No apology, no smile. Kind of like you'd imagine a bandit on the street. No, I didn't buy it.

Decent stay

Me and my husband stayed here for our week in Costa Rica. I was slightly disappointed by the state of our room. We had a very hard time opening our door as it seemed to be pretty old. I think we might have been in a building that had not yet been updated. The room was relatively clean but I could tell it hadn't seen a deep clean in a while. There was a lot of dust on the top of the mini-fridge and the bathroom looked like it could have used some more attention. The balcony was really nice but the lock was broken (usable but broken), the curtains were older and musty and the rods were rusted. I am really not one to complain about a room because if I am on vacation I really don't plan on spending much time there but I was slightly disappointed. Also, there were a few times where we were left without a bathmat and the floor was EXTREMELY dangerous when walking out of the shower. We were also left without toilet paper or tissues sometimes after the room had been cleaned. There were only a few times when we were given a hand towel or a wash cloth. I am also not sure if our sheets were ever fully changed because my side of the bed always seemed to have the flat sheet untucked (being pulled up by my sleeping the first night). Would have also been nice to have a 'Do Not Disturb' sign for when we would come back to the room to change after breakfast. The redeeming factors were: 1. The pool! Very clean and nice cool water for the hot days 2. The staff -- especially Edwin who is the bartender at the lobby bar. He is extremely friendly and attentive to empty drinks and mixes really good drinks (and definitely does not skimp on any booze!) Also 2 of our waitresses from the A la carte restaurant and I wish I could remember their names because they were so fantastic and incredibly kind. 3. The cleanliness of the common areas 4. Most of the food (some nights were better than others but I thought most nights were pretty good -- although different cold options during lunch would be appreciated) Overall, we did have a pretty nice stay but definitely were some things that could definitely be improved on and updating that is needed.

One night stay. Wish it were my whole time in Tamarindo.

Just booked a single night here because I had already booked another place in Tamarindo for the remainder and the week and it was too late to cancel. This place is so nice that we seriously considered just forfeiting the other place and booking here instead. Everything, pool, staff, beach, inclusive meals, room and the hotel grounds are wonderful.

We don't usually stay at an all-inclusive property but the price was great. However, the biggest surprise is this property is located on a national preserve and the beach is so spectacular (remote even). Absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful landscaped grounds, friendly staff, and awesome activities! The food was delicious at the buffet .... but not American....and that is part of the fun of experiencing a new culture. Hotel is 1 mile to town - take a taxi for $5 (too hot). Note: Tamarindo is a surfing destination....waves are not always friendly for swimming....just be safe or actually go surfing.

Fun trip!

We stayed here for 7 nights and had never been to Costa Rica. We enjoyed our stay and the staff are wonderful! Carlos is our favorite and deserves a raise! He is helpful, always put a smile on our face, and hard working! He was the only person I saw serving drinks to people at the pool. Staff in the dining area were helpful and work so hard. I noticed many staff members work all day everyday! The entertainment staff were fun and we especially enjoyed the morning workout in the pool! The grounds are beautiful and full of nature. We saw many types of birds, lizards, and a few monkeys. The beach is amazing and we had fun at the pool! The 4 star rating is because of the food. Wish the food had more variety but I also know that this all inclusive is typical of the many I have been to in Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.
