We've visited a Barcelo in Costa Rica 4 times.
Jul 17 2013
3 times in Playa Langosta, 1 in Tambor. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the beach is great, and the food is very good. The staff are very capable and friendly. The Barcelo definitely has a Costa Rican flavor that we really enjoy.

Barcelo Playa Langosta Costa Rica

At arrival we were assign a room that had mold on the ceiling, the Swiss Travel Rep was nice enought to help us get another room. no mold, but not very clean. You also had to keep one of the 2 room cards you were given to keep light and ac attached to the monitor at all times. The food was the same every night, rice and beans and chorizos, pork, chicken or bad steak. The Wi fii that we paid for was turn off the 2nd day, and can only be used at one device at a time. We would ask for towels for the room, they never had clean towels available. The only good thing at this resort was the alcohol and fresh fruit at the bar.

We really loved it. With friendly staff, excellent food, very very clean, awesome mountain views, the beach was a stone throw from the hotel pool. We could sit at tables in the pool bar and look out at the ocean. Really lovely sunsets and postcard perfect views.

Barcelo at Langosta Beach Tamirindo
Aug 03 2011
We really enjoyed our week at the Barcelo. We would return and recommend it to others. I believe the resort carries a 4 Star rating and that is probably accurate; however, we were completely satisfied with the amenities and food. We were not notified about our departure details as promised. We called on our own and obtained the information.

Good affordable alternative

This is my 2nd time staying at the Barcelo. This is a good affordable all-inclusive hotel. The buffet gets old after awhile but most buffets are average. We like this resort as it is close to town. Most of the other all inclusive resorts are far away.

Occidental Tamarindo

I enjoyed my stay with Occidental Tamarindo. The location is quite close to the town, just a 5 minute taxi ride. The reception is very quick with scheduling a taxi when you need one. The cost is $5 one way, but it beats walking 20 minutes. The staff at occidental are very friendly and will make your stay enjoyable. Shout out to Jaquin, Damian, Jeannette, and Carlos. The food at the buffet is good, serves your typical costa rican food. They also have a chef standing at the corner of the buffet who make omelets for breakfast and grills various meats for lunch/dinner. He is sort of hidden, so look out for him. There is one other restaurant on site that is only open Thursday-Saturday and you must make a reservation at least a day ahead. I do wish they had more fine dining restaurants, but overall the experience was great. The resort is right on the beach and not overly crowded. Alcoholic drinks are decent, just find the right bartender to hook you up, a tip helps. :) They are also willing to make drinks that are not on their drink menu as long as they have the ingredients. They have zumba in the morning, dance classes in the afternoon, and a show in the evening around 9pm. There is a dance club as well. Beach volleyball was one of our favorite activities to do. Once again you will enjoy this resort for many reasons, but the staff made it the best.

It was fine.

We enjoyed the trip, but it didn’t feel like what we expect from an “all-inclusive”. Staff were wonderful and helpful and courteous. Bathroom was never properly cleaned. Buffet food was subpar; restaurant food was excellent.

All Inclusive-Not!!

The hotel was nice but we were told that there were 3 restaurants and there was not. there is a buffet that was horrible and the same every day. A snack bar that I would not even attempt to eat at and the 3rd restaraunt that is only open friday and saturday and the food was awful. The bar was only open from 6 to midnight and no alcohol in the room. And you could only use the internet in the lobby. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!!

Just Okay

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and were not impressed. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. We would not stay again. The resort grounds were very pretty and the staff did a great job of keeping it clean. The staff was also always friendly. However, I have been to other all-inclusives which were much better. Occidental only included one buffet restaurant in the all-inclusive package which was just ok; quality of what you would expect from a buffet. They were 40 minutes late checking us into our room after we were already exhausted from a full day of travel. The Wi-Fi did not work in our room and it barely worked in the lobby. We had to request coffee pods for the in-room coffee machine each and every day, they never supplied them. They also advertise a mini-bar in-room; however, it is simply coke, water, and fruit juice; no alcohol. They do not provide washcloths and after cleaning our room one day, the housekeeper took all our towels and never provided new ones - we had to ask the front desk twice to get them. Finally, the bars ran out of tequila on Monday and did not get it back until Thursday. We ended up spending a lot of time in downtown Tamarindo which was a 20-30 minute walk or $5 shuttle ride from the resort.

Great location

Our family of five (3 young adult children) enjoyed this all inclusive resort. It is on the beach but has a great pool too. The food was good and accommodations were very comfortable. Any issues that arose were always handled quickly and efficiently. The staff impressed us the most with their friendliness and willingness to help make our stay enjoyable.
