This was our second visit and we enjoyed it as much as the first. Excellent facilities and friendly staff.
Our only complaint would be the very poor cuisine in the seafood restaurant . The food was cold and tasteless.
Air conditioning was broken all week. They offered to change my room once at midnight. I was ready for bed not to repack and move
Great place to visit
That's our second time at the Occidental hotel. Staff is very pleasant, food is also great, plenty of variety for every picky eater. They also have club for kids, very friendly place. Highly recommend to everyone.
I would like a partial refund
I upgraded to an ocean front room and it was not ocean front. It was pool front with a view of the ocean in the distance. With this upgrade, I was supposed to receive free wifi. It worked for 1/2 of the days I was there. The phone and TV stopped working half way through my stay as well and was not fixed. There is no beach service for drinks. you have to walk to the bar.
Complaints about our stay
Room was ready until after 4PM. No handicap accessibility to specialty restaurants. Our room was cleaned every day from 3:30PM to 5:30PM. Not all towels were replaced. No hot water in our room for 2 full days. Never hot water for jacuzzi on our balcony. Not all personnel were friendly or helpful. Wake up call on last morning was 35 minutes late. Lack of information provided about resort at time of check in. We had to find things ourselves. The resort itself was the prettiest we have ever stayed while in the carribbean but service was below standard. Last day we were there I saw a live roach on the buffet food in the buffet restaurant.
Not what I expected or paid for.
I would love to speak with an Apple Rep regarding the absolute nightmare of a room we were given. I was incredibly disappointed and disgusted by our room. It was filthy with wet walls, a leaking shower ceiling and exposed wiring just to begin with.
Occidental Punta Cana
We enjoyed the hotel very much. The pools are great and the beach is fantastic. The food is overall very good and lots of variety. Check in was slow. We had 3 people and were placed in a room with just one bed, but that was quickly resolved by the hotel staff, which was great. I would NOT recommend agreeing to meet to learn about their 'travel program' unless truly interested. Our room was simple but I liked it a lot. Grounds are very nice. We enjoyed our stay.
Occidental Punta Cana
I've been to this resort several times. Before this latest trip, the last time was about 8 years ago. They have made great improvements to the resort. However some things have deteriorated. The food quality isn't the best. The water pressure is fair at best. But overall for an all-inclusive it's a good value for your dollar.
The check in process was slow and the staff unprepared. I question why photos copies of our passports were taken.....never had that happen before on trip to Punta Cana or Mexico. The nightly entertainment shows were all very similar. While the performers are very talented, more variety should be explored. There were rarely enough bartenders at any bars to serve all the guests, unless you were waving tip money at them. There was no apparent consistency for daily games/activities to be found. It appeared you had to hope that a staff person tracked approched you to participate. Instead, a daily time schedule of events and their location would be helpful in planning the vacationer's time. on the plus side, the food and service in the various eating venues was excellent! The grounds were spotless and well kept and security was excellent. Maid service was inconsistent from day to day, but eventually was completed.
This hotel caters mainly to Spanish speaking people. We had the worst service at this hotel that I have ever received. One night we waited 1 1/2 hours for our entrees. We finally got up and just left.
Checking in took over an hour. Was suppose to have rooms next to family and did not happen. TV didnt work took a day after talking to 7 people to get done. Hotel had very limited bartenders and always had a line of 10 deep or more. No communication as to what was going on every day. Had a fight in the room next door kept us up for hours. Would have expected at least an apology for happen.

great beach and food â€”â€”â€”disrespectful bartenders
This was our 4th time at this resort-3 times at first club and this time at royal club. We liked the rotating menu at RC and the staff was very nice. Liked the fact that there was a beach bar open until 11pm:) beach is alsways awesome!
The most disappointing part were the bar tenders at the royal club beach bar. While bartender genisis was loving, welcoming and took care of everybody with a smile- bartender Franklin and Carmen were the opposite. They were very disrespectful, unfriendly and talked about people in the RC. While we donâ€™t speak Spanish we understand it and noticed the insults several times. They were also â€žcomplainingâ€ś that people drink too much or ask for the grey goose vodka, sometimes we were just ignored at the bar..people are there to have a good time and not being judged. That was definitely disapppinting :( While we liked everything else we might considering choosing a different resort the next time.
Punta Cana is beautiful but pick a different resort
Service was awful, food choices were very limited, almost impossible to book into the a la carte restaurants, swimming pool and swim up bar were good but there was very limited shaded spots by the pool or the beach.
3rd time at Occidental
This was our 3rd time at Occidental Punta Cana. I found this hotel had the cleanest beach. The staff cleaning the beach were always out there cleaning. We were impressed. Our room and balcony were great. We were in building 23, top floor with high ceilings. Not one bad thing to say about the staff. They were great. If we were missing something in our room, my husband would write the cleaning crew a note and we always found what we were missing. The animation was great, always getting everybody involved. I found the food at the buffet better last year. This year I found there was less selection, except for the desserts. The desserts and presentation was excellent. The restaurants were very good. The oriental, Italian, and the steakhouse. Very good. The pizza upstairs was also very good.Occidental needs to bring back the umbrellas on the beach. They are the only hotel that have no palapas. Not a good sign. They need more shade. We walked for miles and it was sad to see that this hotel was the only hotel lacking the umbrellas. The hotel has put in elevators but they omitted to put an elevator going to the second floor. For people in wheelchairs, well they had to be carried up by the staff. Overall a great hotel and I have to say very very clean.
Great relaxing Vacation
Check in and check out was prompt. Trying to get wifi was ridiculous, we had to attend a time share meeting which the manager was very rude and insulting. This property is one of the cleanest Iâ€™ve ever stayed at. The place is absolutely beautiful. I found there was alot of walking and not enough bathrooms and the entertainment poor. The food was good but not enough variety. I would recommend this resort but will probably never return. The staff wasnâ€™t very friendly, but like I said it was clean comfortable and we had a relaxing vacation.
Could Have Been Better
Pros: The room was spacious and clean. Jacuzzi tub on porch worked great. Oceanfront Room. Maid service very consistent. Awesome Beach!
Cons: Overall food and alcohol not very good. Alcohol only good at First Club bars. I felt consistently harassed by staff, even after I attended their vacation club presentation. My boyfriend and I did not qualify because of our separate addresses. It did not stop the various â€ś concierges â€ś from asking about attending every morning. I dreaded the walk from Building 26 to the lobby. Many of the staff looked unhappy to be there. I visited another resort while in Punta Cana and the employees there were much friendlier. Check-in very, very slow.
