Services at hotel
The staff and the services provided were outstanding
Beautiful place to stay
Everything was wonderful from the minute we checked in. The front desk people were so friendly, the service throughout our stay was great. The room was cleaned a couple times a day. The food was some of the best I've had at an all inclusive resort. The pools and pool areas were clean, the beach was nicely kept up. Besides for the weather, which could not be controlled, the trip was great all the way around!
worst vacation ever
the worst hotel I have ever stayed at
We decided to escape to Punta Cana this year and Riu Palace Macao was our destination! From Dari at check in to FrNces from apple we were off to a good start. Maid service was exceptional however hotel maintenance was poor; our phone was broken the entire week, we were told the man that repairs that was on holiday. Air conditioning in the rooms was hit or miss with our last night a total miss when the room hit 88 degrees. Again we were told nonchalantly that the entire building was without ac and they hoped to have it repaired that day(as we checked out). So a few bumps in the road but back to general service like Francisco who took his personal time to help us obtain a bulb syringe from town and Juan who kept my glass full (most often with ice water). The area is beautiful as is the resort! Food was mediocre as were drinks but cerveza was nice and cold! We would go back, probably earlier in the year when not as hot! Great time!!
10 Year Anniversary

We had the absolute best vacation ever!! Our anniversary trip could not have been better. The room, staff, beach, pool and the animation team was simply the best! SuperMambo was our favorite of the animation team but we loved Aleesa too! We really loved the whole team because they were amazing. SuperMambo definitely brought the party every time he entered the room! He taught us how to salsa and made us crack up the whole time. We adored SuperMambo!! He made our trip so fun!! I have nothing negative to say at all! The resort was gorgeous and relaxing. I read so many mixed reviews when I was researching resorts and I have to say the negative ones are just RIDICULOUS!! I mean I don't think this vacation could have gone better! We enjoyed every second. The food was great and there was a huge variety. I tried grouper for the first time and that's my favorite fish now. We are planning our next vacation back to the Macao as soon as possible. Even though there are many resorts in Punta Cana I can't see a need to try any other when we obviously found the best! When you go look up SuperMambo for a good time!
The hotel and staff is just what we expected with Riu. We have stayed in Riu Hotels in several countries and it has always been a pleasant experience. The resort was well maintained and overall the staff was courteous and attentive (there is always one or two that don't make you fell like you are at home). The entertainment staff did an excellent job, along with the bar and service staff. The maid service did a fabulous job with taking care of our room and the resort. The food was excellent, a lot of variety and different selections each day. The dessert bar was out of this world. Our only dull spot of the trip was with the front desk on check in day (our room was not ready at 3 pm) and the staff did not seem as though they knew how to handle it. Once the Front Desk Supervisor was called over he was able to straighten it out. The worst part of the trip was SPIRIT AIRLINES, they nickle and dime you for everything, it cost my family an additional $305 just to get our luggage and seat assignments. I would never fly Spirit again and Apple Vacations should not even include them in their packages.
we had 4 couples traveling and were all givent he same area which was good, however, there was construction outside our room balcony from 7 am to 9 pm everyday.
The driver lost my luggage. It was found at the second hotel which was 15 minute away from my hotel.
riu palace macao
upon check in we were told our room wouldn't be ready until the next day, at this point we were offered a upgraded suite for 1 night. the lady at the desk said it was free for 1 night and if we wanted to stay in this room it would be 80 dollars more a night. the next day at around 9 am we checked and were told to check back later, at 12 noon was told the room wouldn't be ready until after 2 pm, I complained about having to unpack and repack and missing time at the beach but was told there was nothing that could be done at that time I asked for the manager and got the same run around, after about 10 mins of complaining and threating to write bad reviews the manager pulled a room key from somebody else's envelope and told me to go pack our bags and call the desk and they would send a porter up to move us. before we could even finish without us calling he was at the door. my recommendation to any body wanting to stay at riu macao is to not accept any temp upgrades unless you want to spend some of your vacation moving from room to room.
From the moment we arrived, you feel like royalty. The service staff was amazing, always serving with a smile. The staff works endlessly to make everyones experience one to remember. The ocean was absolutely amazing, you won't be able to take your eyes off of the vibrant blues and the ocean breezes are perfect! My husband and I would wake up each morning, eat a big hearty breakfast, suit up and go from beach to pool all throughout the day. We never had trouble finding two chairs and a beautiful view. In our suits we would have lunch at the Krystal Fusion overlooking the ocean. I would highly recommend this restaurant. After lunch we spent more time relaxing by the pool and the ocean. The pool and beach side drinks were A+ In the evenings we would dress up and enjoy a meal at one of the specialty restaurants. We tried all them going back to our favorite- the steak house several times. It was a perfect getaway!
This was an adults only resort. I had expected fun entertainment all day. The shows at night started at 9 ish and ended around 11. The disco did not open until midnight, the pool was closed at 6pm.

My husband & I just returned from a 1 week stay at the RIU Macao. Despite some misgivings due to the negative reviews I had read we had a wonderful stay at this resort. We did not have any issues during our stay & enjoyed all the amenities this resort had to offer. I liked the fact it was adults only, we walked through some other resorts and they were mobbed with kids.
Check-in/Checkout was a breeze, fast & efficient. We had a later flight on our departure day so we were able to enjoy the buffet & lounge after the noon checkout. I had emailed ahead of time to request our room near another couple we were traveling with and they had this all taken care of.
Rooms were spacious & clean. We had a deluxe junior suite with a large bed, soaking tub, sitting area, and my favorite a huge walk-in shower with a rain forest shower head. There was a dispenser in the shower labeled shampoo/conditioner/body wash…..not sure how 1 container could be all three but it worked for us. They also have small bottles of body wash, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion if you preferred. We were in room 3416, 2nd floor near the pool. No elevators but an easy walk up to your room. I worried it might be noisy because it was so close to the pool area but that never proved to be a problem. The cleaning lady (we had the same one all week) worked very hard, they cleaned in the morning & we had turndown service every night. We learned if you needed washcloths to ask for a ‘face towel’.
Pool/Beach Area was very nice. We spent most of our time by the pool with the swim up bar. You get a towel card, one per person and trade it in every day for new towels. The beach area was very nice, lots of lounges with shade but the water had rough waves while we were there. There did seem to be a lot of seaweed on the beach. We had no trouble finding a lounger with shade. Keep in mind it is the Atlantic Ocean so the water doesn’t have those true Turquoise Caribbean colors. The sand was nice, we walked the beach every morning & night. You can walk along the beach or there is a lighted path at night to walk on. We always felt safe. We were approached by people trying to sell things but you just said no thanks and they left you alone. All of the staff were friendly and always smiling, trying to make sure you were having a good time.
Nightly Entertainment was fun. The entertainment staff works very hard to try to put on a good show. They have a rotating 2 week schedule of shows, it just depends when you arrive what shows you will see. We saw dancing, a magic show (which was great, the magician kept taking watches off volunteers on the stage, my husband was one of them and he swears he didn’t feel him get it off!), and a Michael Jackson show, which was great also. The shows start between 9:45-10 pm and usually lasted 45 minutes to an hour. They also have a nightly Bingo game which starts at 8 pm.
I was pleasantly surprised by the food. There is a nightly Buffet whiches starts at 6:30 and has different themes every night. These include International, Mexican, Gala, & Caribbean. Breakfast & Lunch are buffets also. I thought the food was fresh and tasty with quite a large assortment. No one in our group had any intestinal problems. They also have specialty restaurants at night, the Steakhouse, Italian, and Japanese. We only tried the Steakhouse, it was only okay, but we liked the buffets better. I did like the fact you did not have to make reservations at the specialty restaurants & men didn’t have to wear dress pants as stated in their dress code. Most men did wear nice dress shorts, the women seemed to dress up more.
All in all we had a great stay at this RIU, would definitely recommend it for a relaxing vacation!
Spent two weeks at the Palace Macao in January 2018. The first thing to mention is the wonderful staff. Friendliest reception staff we have ever met. Special note of recognition to David, Alba and Roberto for the wonderful welcome and giving us a feeling of security. The people who served food, cleaned rooms, made drinks, served them, animation most of you were so good at your jobs. Food is very good. Everything seemed to clean, well prepared and presented. The buffet is consistently good. A la carte steakhouse was excellent, enjoyed Krystal and the Italian were also very good. Not crazy over the Japanese restaurant but with three others to choose from and buffet how do you complain? The beach and water are clear and clean and for the most part chairs available. The pools are a nice temperature. My only gripe same as every resort is people who leave a towel on a chair they are not using thus preventing someone else from using it. We did three trips, one to Catalina Island which had very good snorkelling and lovely beach. Day trip to Santo Domingo was also very good but not for people who have limited mobility. We found it interesting and loved seeing the cave with the 3 Lakes but again many steep stairs. The huge disappointment was the deep sea fishing. My husband went, did not see a life jacket and the waves were 8 to 10 feet. Not worth the money in his opinion. Riu Palace Macao is a very well run resort and the size of the resort makes it a breeze to get around. Would go again.
Spoiled by the diving club
Returned for a second time love this hotel but could never return as the use of the pool by the diving school spoiled our holiday, getting pushed out of the way and where they just dumped their gear everywhere ruined our holiday, wouldn’t of been as much of a problem if it was guest from this hotel but they weren’t even staying in the palace Macao sort it out Riu.
I'm a fan of RIU properties. This was the 5th one my wife & I have stayed at, and the Palace Macao ranks relatively high on our list. As is typical, the property is clustered amongst other RIU resorts and you are free to roam around all of them. I'll preface my next statement by saying that we have 5 children and 4 grandchildren: We greatly enjoyed and appreciated the adults only policy at the RIU Palace Macao. It was quiet and relaxing, with just poolside and nighttime entertainment. I thought the best food was at the buffet. The ala carte restaurants were just OK. The pool and beach have plenty of lounge chairs. There is ample shade, with both umbrellas and palm trees, if you're like me and love the beach but can't take too much direct sunlight. The bar service was outstanding throughout the resort. We opted to spend a little more money and get an ocean front suite. It was well worth it. The room was spacious, clean and up to date. One word of warning - the resort is set back from the beach. Although you may technically be ocean front, you won't be right on the ocean. Check it out on google earth or maps. Overall, we loved the RIU Palace Macao. It's consistent with the RIU brand.
We are just over half way through our stay and have to be honest and am finding it disappointing. The food and bars are ok but to be honest but get repetitive after a few days but you won’t go hungry.
The rooms appear refreshed but are old with the shower needing a good clean. Only one head works, the other one is full of limescale and mould. Our telephone goes off at random times of day or night as well.
My parents room had a plug hanging off the wall.
The worse thing though was today. We went for lunch and came back to our pool side where we had been all day to find they had put table right next to our beds for a party they were planning three hours later. I went to reception to speak to a manager to be told there was nobody and a supervisor came and spoke to me. I explained to him what has happened and the fact that my farther was blind and they had just out tables in front of his bed. He wasn’t interested, said it was the entertainment people and he could do nothing.
To be honest we have spent a lot of money to come here and it doesn’t seem value for money or experience. A lot of people say it is a relaxing adult area but it is really noisey as well. Try somewhere else.
