11 time in Iberostar - Best resort
This is our 11 time in Iberostar Dominicana. We absolutely love this resort. Keep doing what you are doing, we will be back again!
Good: The staff was great everywhere: maid service, restaurant and bar staff, entertainment. The beach was beautiful. There was seaweed, but that is just a part of nature.
Areas To Improve: The rooms are dated. The bed and pillows wer comfortable. There was only one outlet in the bathroom and only one under the nightstand. This was annoying. The liquor was 90% off brands. There was no Bacardi or Captain Morgan and the Vodka selection was weak. The only beer was Presidente. The pool did not have built in loungers so you can be comfortable and cool in the water. I've never been to a resort that doesn't have them. The steak restaurant was very good. The omelette and pasta bars were good. The cooks worked very hard! The fresh fruit and bread were delicious. The rest of the food was just OK. After 2 times in Punta Cana and several in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, I prefer Mexico.
Fair and friendly
The pros, friendly attentive staff. The room comfortable, weak air. The food average seems the same at all hotels. The strength of the alcohol week same as all the others. The service always excellent. Cant blame the staff for owners policies. The beach however is beautiful but the palapas are so close together there is no sun to tan in. So basically you need two spots one for shade then move to the end of the palapas to see the sun.
Great hotel, layout was good. Very clean, excellent staff. Food was ok. Nothing to write home about. The drinks need much improvement. Beer is good.
Second time visitor
We LOVE the Iberostar! 1st time we stayed at the Punta Cana, this time we were in the Dominica. Both rooms were well appointed, buffet food was good. French and American food was horrible. Steak house was awesome. Pools are HUGE with a great party atmosphere. Beach was a bit crowded, but get there early and reserve a good spot and you're set for the day. Would we go back? In a heartbeat!
The staff there are above average! They are what made our trip to the Dominican excellent. Jensy, Lori and "Mr. Solution" went above and beyond! Thank you!
Iberostar Dominicana....great beach
The beach at this resort is fabulous! Bar service on the beach is lacking..lucky to see a waiter once in a day. Food was fair....buffet items always cold. Servers very pleasant.
Pool and beach good. Horrible food, entertainment and service.
Pool, beach and bar areas all good. Hotel was adequate after switching rooms because the bathtub wouldn't drain and bathroom door wouldn't close. New room had a fridge that didn't work. Asked for it to be replaced and that never happened. Food entertainment and service all unacceptable. No one at this resort speaks English and all entertainment is in Spanish. Tipped people over $200 on this trip and was thanked for such less than half the time. Not even eye contact from bar tenders and a head nod half the time. Nothing but buffett food for breakfast and lunch. Even the restaurants offered up sub par food. Only good meal I got all week was in sea food restaurant surf and turf. This was followed up by a 40 minute wait for desserts than never showed up. The shady casino is another story into itself. Only casino I've played at in my life where a 21 on blackjack can lose if the dealer has a 21. Asked for an explanation on this and I was greeted with a no hablo English. This was honestly the worst vacation of my life and wouldn't return to this place if it was FREE. My vacation time is priceless and should have obviously paid more and went somewhere else. I discounted bad reviews I read about this place but honestly. They weren't bad enough.
Nice if youíre on a budget
The hotel was clean and the staff was nice. The food was not great and I got really sick about half way into the vacation. The beach was packed! You have to get there before 9am if you want even the slightest chance of getting a chair. So much seaweed too. We had a handful of Maintenance issues in our room (mini fridge didnít work, toilet ran constantly, and the radio was busted). They didnít fix anything when we asked. We did love the spa though and spent a lot of time there. The fitness center was also very nice. Drinks were okay and the service at the restaurants was fine. Nothing special.
The bed was pretty hard. We woke up with back aches every morning. Our fridge in the room was broken and we told the front desk 6 times and it never got fixed. The hotel grounds was beautiful and very well kept. The sit down resturaunts were difficult to schedule. Technically we should have gotten 3 but we were only able to schedule one.
Poor Food Quality & Worn Down Facilities
Old facilities, mold in places in bathroom, AC not very great in room. Grounds well kept but trash from rood repairs spread about. Slippy restaurant floors. Food not very good, poor flavor and quality. Steaks barely cooked above raw. Bland. Staff was very nice. Beach and pool were great.

This was our first time staying at the Iberostar. Punta Cana has 4, one for everyone's budget. We stayed at the Iberostar Dominicana which was 2 out of 4 (low to high) as far as price. My first observation was that you must be open to international cuisine, international music, and international people. My husband enjoyed practicing his 2 years of Spanish. I remembered some key phrases from Sesame Street (lol).
Our assigned concierge, Israel explained how the week would go. He was "excelente" excellent. He made himself available whenever we had questions, concerns etc. The resort was all inclusive but they also gave special coupons depending on the number of nights you stayed. Coupons were for the casino, the spa, an upgrade to your room etc. I used a coupon for a discounted aromatherapy massage. This came with 2 day access to the spa pool and sauna.
Our room was good. We had a King Size Bed and a mini bar full of complimentary drinks. We used the larger bottles of water to brush our teeth. We were told not to drink or brush our teeth with the tap water. We had a balcony that to the left you caught a glimpse of the beach and elsewhere were shops. There was a drying rack for swimsuits. I had to get used to only 4-5 English television stations.
I really enjoyed the morning buffet of croissants, pancakes, waffles, omeletes, bacon, eggs, muffins, smoothies, etc. The nightly buffet was okay; however, by staying 6 nights we had 3 reservations for their specialty restaurants. We chose seafood, steak house and Asian. We enjoyed the specialty restaurants but I wish I had known the steak house was on the beach. I wouldn't have worn my new sandals (lol).
The pool was great. Everything from 1 ft. to about 5'11. I took water aerobics, dance lessons by the pool and my husband played volleyball in the pool and on the beach. There were spotty showers daily and the ocean current limited the time to canoe, sail etc. The current also brought in a lot of seaweed.
The nightly shows reminded me of a cruise ship. Rock, Carribbean Fantasy, Lion King and Boogie were some of the themes. I was really impressed by the show hosts and hostesses who knew several languages. After the show, a disco opened. We went the first night. There were a lot of young adults and Spanish music. I would like to know if the disco did other music other nights but not opening until 11 p.m. we never made it back other than the first night.
I would do Iberostar again. They take pride in keeping their resorts clean (saw them cleaning the pool), maintained (we saw people painting) etc. I try not to go to the same places twice but Iberostar is in 18 countries so I have choices.
The resort is beautiful and the staff are very kind! There is always something to do, they have live shows and music every night. The beach and pool are great. We booked our excursions through Yannick in the lobby -he was awesome and helped us choose which tours were right for us - go to him for your excursions!
Beautiful hotel but bad customer services, some of the staff very nice and the rest very bad, the buffet food bad but the Mexican restaurant, the French and the Japanese excellent.Entertaiment very good.
Pick another resort
We recently spent a week at this resort and the grounds were beautiful, along with the pool. There was a slight language barrier but we were able to figure that out early in our trip. Housekeeping took great care of our room. Rooms were clean and spacious. The concierge, Gregory, was amazing and helped us from the moment we stepped onto the resort until the time we left. The Wi-Fi is free but spotty in the rooms. Much better reception in the main areas.
I struggle with how this is a 4.5-5 star resort. I would not stay here again for a few reasons. #1 - the rooms are outdated. There were areas of mold in the room and in the bathroom. The room smelled musty and was always damp. The furniture was old, tile was cracking in the bathroom, the room key reader was rusting and falling apart. The mini fridge barely kept our beverages cold.
#2 - the food wasn't all that great. Between the restaurants and the buffets, the food was bland or not well prepared. I rarely finished a meal because I didn't like it. If you aren't able to get a dinner reservation at a restaurant, your only choice is to go to the buffet. The restaurants also have part of your meal at a buffet style set up. I'm not sure that the food was kept to temperature safely. Oddly enough, My husband and I managed to come home with some sort of digestive issues accompanied with cramping, diarrhea and fever. I'm still not sure what I even ate.
#3 - The staff was inconsistent. 50% were very nice, and worked with us through the language barrier. 50% were very very rude, to the point of not bringing us our drink or serving us during dinner service.
#4 - The drinks were all watered down. You could barely taste the alcohol in the drinks that were made.
#5 - There was little to do after 6-7 pm. The pool closed at 7pm and if you got dinner before 8 pm, there wasn't much to do until the show of the evening. If you didn't want to stay for the show, you could sit at a bar and drink, or go to the casino. That got old after a few nights and by the end of the week, we were bored with nothing to do after dinner!
Based off of these things, we were only able to truly enjoy about 3 days of our trip. This was our first time in an all-inclusive resort. If this is how they all are, I'm not sure we'll do an all-inclusive again.
This is our 6th time at the Iberostar and we absolutely love it. Rooms are clean, food is great and the staff is amazing. The entertainment is always good from daytime to evening. This was our first time bringing our son who is now 12 and he loved it. We always felt safe in giving the kids enough space from their boring parents! Would highly recommended the trip!
