You will enjoy more if you spoke Spanish
I should have known but the primary language is Spanish. Most of the staff at the resort spoke only Spanish.
This was our first trip to Punta Cana and to an Iberostar Resort and we were not disappointed. We stayed 5 nights and would definitely go back. The resort was beautiful and the service was excellent. Very clean and comfortable. We did wish they had more seating for the specialty restaurants though. Overall one of our best vacations and would definitely go back.
Dominicana was a fair hotel with decent service. Definitely not golden apple material more like a 4 red apple rating. Food was good bar service lacking as they were very understaffed. If you speak English you will be at a disadvantage- not many staff or guests speak English.
Wish we knew more
First off things were nice I just wish we were educated more by the Apple booking agents. From what I have learned some of the resorts in the Dominican cater to Spanish Speaking individuals and this is absolutely one of them. Also, the kids clubs were very lacking which is not what was relayed to us by Apple at the booking time. The Amstar group at the resort did not do what they said they would a few times (said they kept forgetting) We were allowed 3 reservations for the restaurants which we tried to book when we first arrived but there were not even 3 open bookings left for us to take advantage of. This is the second time I have used Apple Vacations and the first time was by far a better experience
Not a 5 apple
I have stayed at multiple resorts, all booked through Apple. To rate this hotel a 5 Apple is a far stretch. It was a fair hotel. Nothing amazing. The service was poor compared to other 5 Apples ie: Secrets, Dreams, Riu, and so on. There was nt enough staff for the amount of guests, bar service was poor, front desk was not helpful. We normally stay at a AM Resort or Riu Palace. This was our first Iberostar experience and will be our last due to the drastic difference from Iberostar to the above mentioned resorts. I recommend sending your Apple agents back for another evaluation
Stayed for relaxing week. Food was ok but nothing great. For a 7 day stay you only get 3 restaurants...talk to the manager to get 1-2 more. I got diarrhea for 48 hrs from the drinking non bottled water. Message at spa was good but 20 min short of time so I felt a bit ripped off. Great for families. This resort cleans the seaweed on the beach and others don't do as much or as well. If no kids I would stay somewhere else but we had an awesome time. Toilet in our junior suite didn't flush well so that was major negative. Maid came at 5:00 PM everyday as we were returning from the beach/pool and excursions. Good spot for diving or snorkeling
We are disappointed is our overall opinion. The use of '' Guest Service " is a misnomer. All but 2 of the 5 guest service people are really there to sell time shares. Although we realize we are in a foreign country given the number of Americans who come a little more emphasis on English would be appreciated. We were also disappointed in the Dominican Republic overall.
Review of Iberastar Dominicans Resort
Reasonable resort with reasonable accommodations.
The buffet and bar service personnel were excellent. I feel the food is definitely geared towards European clients. Didn't like that dinner reservations are required and then not available many nights, yet when we did have reservations there were many open tables. Our room's AC was inadequate and we asked to be fixed a few times yet not fixed. One day our room was not ever cleaned. And didn't appreciate construction in the lower level rooms that could be heard all day and early morning.
Enjoyed the Stay
We stayed 5 days ... rooms were good except 'sewer' smell coming in the vents during the night (awful!). The room also smelled musty but understandable. We loved the enthusiastic servers and bartenders. Enjoyed the beach & pool entertainment. Food was okay; seemed to be leftovers every day. Ala Carte dinners okay; servers seemed to rush us on ordering though. Noticed leftovers at those dinners too (steakhouse especially...only the steak was new). We didn't like the panhandling 'inside' the hotel grounds on our way to Mexican restaurant. Very tacky...we didn't mind them on the beach or at shops but on hotel grounds was frowned upon. Found a cockroach in one of our rooms. Noticed hotel staff pushing mops a lot but the floor was dirty...think they were just going through the motions. Upon check-out, there was no Apple representative to be found--we had no idea where to wait or who to ask. Had a phone call charged added to bill, but they finally took it off before leaving. We had no idea where it came from. Didn't like the 'sales pitch' of nicer hotel when making reservation for Ala Carte dinner. All-in-all it was a nice vacation but thought you'd like to know about these items. We requested two rooms next to each other but didn't get; worked out okay though. Really liked the custom omelet station at buffet. A couple of us had digestion problems but luckily Imodium helped. Mostly enjoyed the beach and hanging out at the pool. Very nice pool. Also loved the grounds; beautiful.
Best Vacation Ever!!!!
We had the best vacation ever!!! My husband and I stayed at the Iberostar Dominicana! The resort was awesome! We had rain the first night we were there and a little the next day, but after that the weather was beautiful!!! We spent time at the pool and the ocean. We went to Sanoa Island it was beautiful! Picking up a giant starfish was amazing. We also went on a "Reef Exploration." We snorkeled with stingrays and nurse sharks, had a massage, and snorkeled over a coral reef. One of the best half-day excursions ever!!!! The bartenders and waitresses were great!!!

Good holiday. Hotel as expected
Stayed 16/7/17 to 27/7, but late in doing review. We do our research and knew this hotel was the older type. We have stayed at iberostar before and knew it would suit us. Not to hung up what star it is three four not a problem.
Great check in from Stephanie given room 4274. Large comfy beds. Good shower. Usual fridge/safe coffee etc yes the hotel is a bit jaded but it's older style as mentioned. Old lampshade covers and few stains on wall but no problem. Room was very clean and kept that way during our stay. A nice large room, a/c worked well no complaints.
Time share selling in reception not a problem, a simple no was fine and they are only doing their job. Found the constant sellers on the beach a bother this year.
Preferred buffet on punta Cana side with all the ladies, Vanessa and yeduleki and the others. Buffet had plenty of good food for everyone. The ladies looked out for you and showed you to a table which we didn't get in Dominicana
I found the house wine ok. We ate at pool bars for lunch, plenty good food there too.
Beach was beautiful plenty of beds and shade. There was the usual bed hoggers, beds still empty at two or took bed at pool and beach. We still got beds. Entertainment on the beach every day was good along with bbq's and paella. Pools nice but too busy for us.
Watched few shows, some better than others. The star friends very friendly and work so hard with lots of energy and enthusiasm they are to be praised.
Only managed to book two restaurants at times we wanted. The gourmet was good. The American one had very nice well presented food however there was no atmosphere.
The grounds are immaculate and pretty and hotel is spotless everywhere.
We had a very satisfactory holiday with no complaints. All the staff work very hard for their guests.
Decent hotel but it's definitely not a 5 star hotel
Hotel is old and needs updating. Grounds are kept clean, wifi in rooms stink. Service was good from most of the servers, some were rude, but overall a good experience. Food was decent at the buffet. The restaurants that need reservations were average, i would definitely go with the Mexican as one of your choices. Others were so so. Don't like the fact that they push you to see the grounds of their higher class hotel and try to sell you something. I opened out of that, as I heard from a few friends who had horrible experiences.
Great entertainment, service and tasty food
We traveled to Iberostar Dominicana for a week (August 16 to the 21 / Room 4049)with my kids for our summer vacation and we picked this hotel base on the TripAdvisor ratings and the fact that it's kids friendly. Our arrival was smooth and the front desk was extremely friendly and welcoming and were able to accommodate our request of a room near the pool. Our bellman was very informative and we learned that he is been working at Iberostar Dominicana for 6 years which is a good indicator that a business is well run. We definitely are coming back to this place and will recommend it to our friends and family.
The pools: we love both pools and the fact that one is cool and the other one is warmer. I personally admired and loved the service at the pool bar since the staff was always in a good move and remembered my favorite drinks. Special thanks to the ladies and the told friendly bartender that had always a nice smile and dance while serving you.
The beach: The beach was warm and addictive. The white sand and clear water was a super plus. We did the banana boat and it was one of the most fun activities we done and we are looking forward to do it again.
Food: We tried the Oriental, Sea food and the Star Caffe and our favorite was the Star Caffe. The churrasco was delicious and melt in your mouth. My daughter ordered the Double cheeseburgers with bacon which was delicious and my son had the BBQ ribs which were also super tasty. However, my kids loved the Buffets and all their choices from pasta, sea food and Spanish food.
Entertainment: We loved the nightly shows and got there early so we can find a great spot to enjoy the show. My kids loved the final dance of the night when the audience gets on the stage and dance the Iberostar anthem, Dale pa ya dale pa ca. Special thanks to Sexy papi for his great attentions to my kids and to Mini-cooper for always Acknowledging us and saying hello. Great recognition to the super engaging ceremony masters for making everyone laugh so hard.
The Room: The room was beautiful and comfortable. The AC was blasting and the room was freezing cold. Our housekeeping lady was amazing and always cleaned the room spotless and let us beautiful towels figures with flowers which my kids loved.
Ok maybe slightly above average
I would prob give 3 1/2 stars as I feel it's better than average but not quite 4 stars. The place is clean. Grounds are nice. The employees are nice. Never had a problem with staff. Stephany was our rep and she was nice. Helpful at getting our reservations for dinners. She did ask about the "timeshare" to see property next door. They don't say it's a timeshare tho they say "promote the brand". We didn't end up doing it due to an illness but they never hassled us or gave us any issue for not going. So I am not sure what all the negative reviews are about. I enjoyed my stay. Wish they allowed more than a couple sit down dinners as this would make it easier to pick and feel like getting good value for the money. Overall I did have a good experience and I would recommend your hotel to others. The food was decent for all inclusive. We went to the steakhouse, star rock, and Asian restaurants. They were all decent with the star rock being my favorite. The only issue we had with the room was the sliding door to the patio was hard to open and close and after the first day there could not get it to lock so had an unlocked door all week. Otherwise no issue with the room it was adequate.
Horrible experience in room!
On third day at resort two men enter my room without permission or knocking on door. They were up to no good. They ran away and we follow. We were in room 5091 report it to front desk and Guest Reltions. Nothing was done. Don't let your guard down. No response from resort or no one. There were 57 people and so many things happen.
