Apple Vacations Traveller Reviews
Catalonia Resort is AWESOME
This was the best vacation ever. Fell in love with the employees of the Catalonia. The staff at this resort were the best.
The resort was beautiful, the hotel room was so-so
My husband and I took our honeymoon here. The resort itself was beautiful, the bar staff was exceptional, the food at the restaurants was amazing. Our room however was just okay. The bed wasn't very comfortable, we had cold water the first day and a half in the shower and sinks and we had to request maid service 2 of the 5 days. We loved punta cana and will return someday but maybe to a different resort or pay additional money to upgrade to a nicer hotel room.
13 women stayed at the Catalonia Bravaro Resort May 16 through May 23. The Apple representative "Robinson" did a wonderful job in taking care of us through the week. The beach was beautiful, our room was clean, the staff was very helpful and courteous. We had a problem with our bathroom sink and it was taken care of as soon as we called for help. My daughter had a problem with the door handle to her room and it was also addressed as soon as we called. The food was great with a wide variety of choices. Some of us did excursions and had great times. I cannot wait to return!
Check in was annoying. Had to prove three times that we had pair for the privileged junior deluxe sweet. They couldn't find our reservations even after showing our Apple documents. We asked for two beds with upper floor room. Put us in one bed room with ground floor. We did change rooms and was told that Apple did not pass on this request. Had to call for bath towels several times because none were left in room after maid cleaned. I guess they do not have quality control or a check off list when doing the rooms. The staff at the breakfast and lunch and buffet were not very good. We had to get our own coffee or water each time even though there were staff there to do this at every meal. Very slow. A Russian couple called them sloth. I wanted to go first class on the entire trip and only the flight on united was what I expected. I would rate this vacation as a 1 star at most.
After a day of the ravel, we waited a long time on the shuttle for them to leave for the hotel. When we finally arrived the checkin took forever, even going through privileged check in. Food wasn't very good, beck and pool were amazing! Took forever to get drinks at the bar and no cake around the beach to take orders, we stayed in a privilege room which is located near a night club, never again! The bed shook until 2am pumping music, we were exhausted from lack of sleep. Maid service did the minimum required. We loved the coffee shop and the ambiance of the lounge area.
Old hotel, updated but some things were severely out of repair
The hotel was mostly fair to good. We had to change rooms because of some outside repair going on next to our patio. Our second room had a couple of major plumbing issues. They took care of one and the other we just lived with because we didn't want to move to a different room again. Food as generally good. The beasch was not cleaned from the seaweed very well.
This was a very nice hotel with friendly staff that were wanting to please the guest. We had a blast!
Okay hotel, go for the beach. Otherwise, wouldn't recommend.
The hotel is beautiful and clean. The beach is by far the hotel's best quality. The food was good but not the best - lots of options at the buffet. However, you are only limited to one night at each of the four sit down restaurants, which is ridiculous and inconvenient. When we checked in, our first room did not have working AC. It took two calls, two in person requests and an entire day before we finally just got a new hotel room. The new room was nice, clean and updated - which was certainly not true of the first room. The staff were nice but frankly, not overly helpful or easily available.
Good golf resort but falls short in other areas
Nice beach, golf course and grounds. Rooms are dated but clean. Nothing gets fixed we had a ceiling leak for almost the entire trip. There was no hot water for the last three days. Air condition does not really cool the room. Buffet bar service is slow. Alcohol is such a low grade most is not drinkable. Buffet service is poor you can not get a beverage for your life. Buffet food is fair you can get full but that's about it. Specialty restaurants are better and service is good. There is such pressure to go to see their representatives for their vacation club, you are never left alone! We did the presentation that was to take 60 minutes, 2 1/2 hours later after a very hard sell we escaped. They try and get you to upgrade to a decent room at the cost of $70 a day when you get there, if you plan on doing this go to a better resort. The juice bar on the beach and the pizza snack bar are good. If you have any mobility issues this is not the resort for you. Very spread out and the walking to get around is absurd, we were walking over 6 miles a day ( just when we had our phone on us. ) there is a lack of bathrooms around the resort also. Nightly entertainment was fair. I would give this resort a 3 star rating comparing it to the other Apple resort we have been to.
Way overrated!! Never going back!
Rooms were filthy; numerous holes in bathroom ceiling tiles. Bathtub dirty with hair in tub when arrived, not cleaned until third request on day 3. Stained dirty sheets placed on bed day 2 and when complained they dropped off sheets for us to change bed. Air conditioning in room never cooler than 75/78F. Twice had to wait for over 1 and 1/2 hours for beach towels after told every 15 mins they were on the way, dryer problems. Hotel rep insisted on an hour meeting day 2 to explain other Catalonia resorts so we would book direct next time. Felt like hard sell time share push and we rejected meeting 3 times. We paid up front and didn't want or need any "meeting". Wine in restaurant watered down to the point it was laughable. Food was plentiful but the best meal was at Wendy's at Punta Cana airport as we were leaving. Also first real air conditioning we had in entire trip was at airport. First Apple Vacation; likely last. Definitely never returning to Catalonia Bavaro and unlikely to be duped into another Catalonia resort. Hotel staff was friendly and except for cleanliness the staff was very good. Beach was beautiful.
Forcing vacationers to hear a sales pitch at check in then forcing to return the following morning with your spouse for another ,"60 minute" sales pitch it felt like selling timeshares. When I kept refusing it we were taken into the parking lot and told we have to do this in order to receive things that were part of our prepaid package, this was our first Apple vacation and I cannot imagine trusting Apple for another. The rooms were nasty no AC the shower and bathroom ceiling were nasty, our group still laughs and has nightmare about our sheets, the food and the shower. Loved the beach and the guests. Every traveler we ran into stated the same complaints as we did. Dt get me started on the water down wine and no alcohol in mixed drinks. I would bet the many hole in the bathroom ceilings might be checked for cameras,!

First time at a Catalonia Resorts property was very enjoyable. Excellent property from the nicely renovated room to incredible landscaping, quality food options, coconut groves right on sandy beach, pool, bars, great staff... etc.
The only disappointment was the ocean.. not once did we go in due to the weeds. Apparently January, February are bad months for the weeks. The ocean was violent when it was crashing to the reef... no surprise there. The extra fine powdery white sand however was a delight to walk on.
Excellent resort worth returning to time and time again.
Stayed here from 20th November for 2 weeks and enjoyed my stay the beach is amazing the pool was big and clean the food was ok and the snacks are delicious there’s something for everyone the drinks are good and local beer is good friendly staff only downside is the entertainment or lack of it if there was more entertainment it would be amazing but we still enjoyed it and I would visit again in the future
left after a few days
We booked this for the second week of our holidays but cancelled after a few days and returned to the Occidental Punta Cana (see separate review).
First impressions are good-the grounds are beautiful. But after spending time on the beach at the Occidental this one was awful. They have put a large floating device to try to stop the sea weed and it just makes it look like a sewerage outlet. The sea weed would be preferable. The resort is HUGE which can be good or bad depending on what you are looking for.
Despite being assured we were given a quiet room, it was subject to noise from the club on the beach next door. Totally unnecessary to have music blasting throughout the resort from 6pm to the early hours.
They advertise wifi in all areas but it is totally useless. If you need internet access while you are away DO NOT choose this resort.
other reviews mention a booking.com upgrade. This is only if available and we did get an upgrade to a higher "privilege" grade room. The room was amazing-just like the photos.
They offer a "pillow menu" which is a joke as our request just for a third pillow between two of us was ignored, let alone a feather one!.
Drinks were awful at every bar. I gave up trying to get a drink at the "privilege" bar on the beach. One staff member and twenty people waiting. Unless you waved dollar bills there was no chance of getting served. There is a juice bar on the beach and that is the only place to get natural juices.
The waving of dollars was a regular theme here. There are a lot of Russians and it seems to be standard to wave dollars to get service. This was not the case in our fist hotel, The Occidental.
The food was poor and little variety in all the buffets and the a la carte restaurants were very basic and unattractive.
Yan the customer service lady was very helpful and tried her best but after 2 days we couldn't wait to move back to the Occidental.
upgraded room. Good air con.
poor food and drinks.
isolated location so unable to go outside resort.
Lots of people waving dollars to get service.
Really about a 3 1/2 Star.
First off if you read some of the bad reviews on this place you’ll notice it’s the only review they have ever written...
First I want to address some of the negative stuff I read in other reviews.
1. Leaks. Our room in building 6 never had any.
2. Bugs. One Your in a jungle environment but I had no bugs in the room or outside really.
3. Dirty pool. I witnessed it being cleaned in the mornings and it wasn’t bad.
4. Food. It isn’t wow factor food but you will not go hungry. Everything seemed fresh to us.
5. WiFi I never used. Your on vaca put the phone down.
Now my take. Our room was exactly as pictured.
We had a building 6 privilege suite close to pool and beach.
The staff was fine. No super friendly but not rude.
The beach is average to other places I’ve been. I heard it was nicer further up shore.
Drinks are very sugary. The local beer was good.
Maids were friendly I asked for extra water/beer and got a case of each.
The main reason I wouldn’t stay here again is location. I rather be up the beach with the other hotels this is kinda secluded off.
Second would be it’s just a little to boring with limited entertainment.
To me this is a nice getaway if you can get a good deal on it.
My two daughters 17, 21 and I stayed at this resort from Dec. 29th to Jan 5th 2018. We had the most relaxing, fun experience at this property. The grounds are so beautiful, the white sand beach is lovely and you can snorkel close to the resort. The food is good (eating at the buffet by the lobby offers more selection). The wifi is best in the lobby area but there are lots of nice lounging areas if needed. The nightly entertainment was better then the resorts we have been to in Mexico. Our room was clean and the one small repair we needed was taken care of within two hrs of us mentioning it. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. What made this vacation better then most was the incredible entertainment staff. We have never met a group of people who worked so hard to make our stay enjoyable. They were very friendly and really made us feel welcome. Don't miss the resorts Beach Party on Tuesday night. We loved how everyone was enjoying themselves families, couples, singles. We want to thank Luine (Lulu), Jonathan, la Fletcha, Robert, Dennyson, Jesus and Julia for the wonderful experience. We defiantly will be coming back and would recommend this property. Thanks Cherie, Ashley and Nicole from Canada
