Not worth what we spent

Jul 13 2016
Based on the experience we had in previous resorts and how we spent nearly double last year's trip, we expected to have a more "luxury" stay. The hotel overall was nice and the staff friendly, but the biggest thing that was disappointing was the quality of the food. We didn't have a single restaurant we HAD to return to. We classified everything as "good enough to eat".

You don't get what you pay for

My high school friends and I planned a 40th birthday getaway for us all over President's Day weekend. The price we paid for 4 nights was hardly acceptable for the quality of the Heaven resort. 1. One of the rooms our group had not only had a broken thermostat, but the shower's water temperature fluctuated terribly. One second scalding the next freezing. 2. The same room above was also MUCH bigger than the other two, although we were supposedly booked in the same type of room. Not to mention this same room above had strawberries and champagne, the others did not. We are all high school friends and not lovers, so this didn't necessarily matter, but why did one room get them and the others no? 3. Room number 3 had ZERO hot water 4. For $1400, I would have expected a MUCH better selection of liquor. I can understand not providing top end cuts of meet for the restaurants and such, but liquor should be a given. Absolut is NOT top shelf Vodka. In addition, the bar areas were just a complete mess. Who knows how much bacteria among other things were all over the bottles. 5. At Zen restaurant, we waited over an hour for a table, (seated at nearly 10PM), and then waited over an hour to even get a chef to cook our hibatchi dinner. 6. Coffee was never refilled in the room. Used glasses were left on the shelves when the room was cleaned. Towels were discolored. Almost yellow instead of bright white. Overall cleanliness was just dirty in my opinion. 7. Servers on the beach for the resort were not very attentive. They would bring a tray of drinks for the large party sitting in front of us and disregarded anything our small group wanted. I will say the Spa there is fantastic. That is the one saving grace the place had. Food was mediocre at best. The Ciao Italian restaurant was the best of the restaurants we ate at. The Heaven Bar was good, but could use updated music(not much current music was played), and the bars were again dirty, and bartenders had no idea how to make basic drinks. No Fireball liquor, no vodka any better than absolut. Very poor experience overall. Would not go back.

Great hotel decor and amazing spa

Dec 11 2015
The decor in hotel was very cool! Service was amazing especially the bar tenders and wait staff. The front desk didnt activate our wrist bands for getting into the rooms so our whole party of 25 had to come back to get them activated:/ Also we were in building 4 and our room was in the middle so no easy way to get in and out - a lot of walking to each end of the bldng. Not sure why there isnt an door/exit in middle of bldng. The spa was amazing!!! Decor and the masseuse were fantastic. Loved club heaven and live bands in lobby but pool entertainment non existent - except for Foam party which was super fun! The food was mediocre - my seabass was undercooked and steaks overcooked. Ive had way better Mexican and pool buffet only served burgers and wings - could have changed it up! Hotel upsells too much too - we had to use resort credits which had fees associated for good wine, sea bass, seafood platter - never had to do this at other all inclusive resorts. Credits were a way for hotel to make more money even after we spent so much. We did appreciate special treatment of bdays in our groups but we had to do a lot of convincing and begging to get it - even tho we were a big group of 25.

Our hotel room did not have a hammock as advertised, was on the first floor and partially faced a wall. Not ideal considering it didn't seem very busy/full at the resort. There was also a bad odor coming from the floor drain in the room and they were doing construction on a scaffold in front of our patio one of the days there. It was also noisy starting around 8am since the hallways are open air.

Fantastic stay with a few minor exceptions

Hotel was very nice and food was very good for an all-inclusive. Staying in adults only "Heaven" was great and rule was enforced. Negative is limited seating and even more limited umbrellas. Guests were out saving chairs at 6:00am. Hotel should add list of major bands performing so guests can avoid or attend during those dates. Unknown to us, a major band played and drew a crowd we would have preferred to avoid. Check-in was very slow. It would be nice if the list of daily activities/entertainment was delivered to the rooms nightly (like other resorts) or at least made available at the breakfast restaurants in order to avoid daily trips to the lobby. These items are minor and I would go back.

I read some bad reviews about this resort but after be there for 8 days I am not sure why. The staff was amazing, after one day they knew who you were and were more than happy to make you comfortable. I spent most of my time at the swim up pool bar area and Aldo was fantastic as well as Alejandro and Bernie. The rooms were clean and nice, the maid and room service were great.

Great Vacation

Interesting venue to say the least. Not your typical beach resort as in looking at it, but what was the special thing you come away from this resort was thier ability to make you feel welcomed and the internal operations of this resort probably will impress you beyond your expectations as soon as you arrive and go for initial look and see. Not the biggest resort and definitely not your best beach but it does not take a back seat to any other resort out there due to the efforts of all of their staff and events that they offer to keep your attention. My wife and I stayed for 2 weeks and the weather was not the greatest but their staff worked their butts off to overlook the weather issue and made it seemed it was sunny and hot every day! I am not going to say it was perfect because it was not, but nothing is, you can always find something to complain about but here they made their imperfections go away with great service, genuine concern for your stay and did everything to make it enjoyable. We stayed on the Heaven side and visited the Hacienda and both locations were hopping. Their entertainment team was fantastic so they get our first shout out! I will miss some names but the whole team did a great job and should be told they do. Smiley, Lucy. Willis, DJ Warrior and all of their team were second to none keeping everyone going. Our best meal experience came on our final night as we went to Le Petit Cochon where my wife and I had a fantastic meal. The waiters were spot on and the food was delicious. All the other restaurants were good also but this one stood out for us. Heaven bar was good for winding down the evening and it was a great setting where the pool tables are, very classy. the bar team was exceptional and could make any drink you requested and taste the best. Great job to all of the bartenders there! Room was a little small but we took advantage of the sky terrace. Nice and private and a great place to kick back and relax. We used it numerous of times and I will hi-light very private. Room service was the best especially for using the sky terrace as we ordered food and drinks and they showed up well under the time they told you upon ordering. This was the best 24hr room service we have ever experienced. Kudos to this team. You are going to be asked to sit on their Vacation packages and from our experience from other resorts including other Hard Rock locations, Legendary does present here a no pressure presentation. not saying they won't try everything to entice you but they are not as viscous as other ones we have taken in. In summary, if you are family, couple who appreciate people who try to go out of their way to help you, this is the location to go to. They are human but when you have a concern they bring it back big time. There are other locations that offer this service for a whole lot more dollars so we were quite pleased that we did not spend unneeded dollars to get first rate service like we received here. We will be back in the future. Thanks again for a great 2 weeks Sandy & Cathy Martin

The BEST Hacienda Team!
MeganPohl, Piqua, Ohio
Sat Jan 20 08:16:50 EST 2018
The Hacienda team were probably my favorite part of this resort. They were the friendliest, kindest people who could help you out! Jack and Manuel were helpful with setting people up, Said and Rulo were the BEST DJers around. They were so funny you wouldn't even understand. If you needed something to eat or drink, the resort would gladly serve you some. RuLo was the guy who helped you around and communicated with everyone what was happening. If you were playing volleyball, he would teach you how to serve. All in all, everyone there was the nicest people and took care of you.

Will be our second time here - looking for suggestions

Resort Hopping Part 2
tomscube, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Fri Jan 19 13:45:23 EST 2018
We’ve been vacationing in Mexico and the Caribbean for over 10 years, always all-inclusive, usually Riviera Maya. This time around, we decided to sample two resorts on one trip. Our first stop was a 4 night return visit to Now Jade, which is about an hour away by taxi. We capped off the trip with 3 nights at the Hard Rock. Arriving at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya Hacienda, the smell of gasoline from landscapers was almost overwhelming. Once inside the lobby however we were greeted quickly and courteously, and noticed the “Go on, take the money and run” Steve Miller lyric adorning the wall, before being quickly checked in and given a complementary upgrade to a Sky Terrace room that features 2 rooftop loungers and a spa tub. The rooms are on the smaller side (perhaps a consequence of the stairs leading to the Sky Terrace) and can be noisy. On the plus side, the TV is better than what we have at home, and the mini bar includes a dispenser for vodka, rum, gin, and whiskey, if that’s your thing. I had a Bacardi and Coke “because I could”. While our room (8325) was close to the lobby area where most of the dining is situated, it was also close to a parking area and the “beep beep beep” of a bus backing up every 15 minutes or so. Our first impressions of the food were good at The Market, which does double duty as the buffet for breakfast and lunch, and a steakhouse at dinner. Hacienda guests also have access to the Heaven (adults) side a quick golf cart ride away, thought the entire property is sprawling with over 1,000 rooms. We dined at the French restaurant since the Italian had a waiting list an hour long. Although the dress code is relaxed, most guests seemed willing to play the part and dress up anyhow, and the filet mignon and gourmet service were both stellar. Frida’s, the Mexican restaurant on the Hacienda side, is also open for breakfast. They have lovely outdoor seating with a view, and made to order pancakes. On our second night, we went for Toro, the steakhouse on the Heaven side. Usually steaks at Mexican AIs are not that good, but the NY strip was excellent. No skimpy portions here either; even the desserts were generously sized. My Negra Modelo always arrived in a frosty Mason jar glass; a nice touch. The Heaven side was definitely the fancier side, with a bigger lobby, the Heaven nightclub which looked like something out of a gangster movie, and elegant blue outdoor lighting. Hacienda had one thing Heaven didn’t: brick oven pizza, poolside. On the last full day of our trip, I rode over to the Heaven side to see what the pool scene looked like. On the way in I was offered a welcome drink, a margarita on the rocks – it was the best damn margarita I’d ever tasted at 11:30 am. Most nights live music is featured in the lobby of both sides. We settled in at 9:30 in the Heaven atrium as the band was setting up and doing sound check. The night’s cover band opened with Def Leppard’s Hysteria and while they were good, the sound level was just too much for the space, and we left before the first song ended. Yes, we’ve been to rock concerts; yes, it’s called the Hard Rock, but for an audience of around 50 to 100 people, tops, do you really need to turn it up to 11? If you’re a true beach lover, the Hard Rock Riviera Maya is not for you. I really did try to like the manmade “illusion” of a beach, but the beach beds are only available for a fee, and the lagoon water is cold and slimy on the bottom. The day before our departure, a notice was slipped under our door advising that a planned power outage would begin at 6 am on Sunday morning. When 6 am came and went I didn’t think much of it, and we both took our showers. Just as my wife was finishing up at 7:45, the power went out as announced, along with the water. Food was available in the buffet and the reception area had power, and we were able to eat and check out with no problems. During checkout no one tried to hand us an iPad to fill out a survey, h was refreshing. While waiting for the Olympus van to take us to the airport, “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd was playing in the lobby. Would we come back? Probably not, but only because there are so many other resorts we’ve yet to experience.
