Apple Vacations Traveller Reviews
Not the best experience
Was just ok. Least favorite of all hotels we have ever stayed at during our many trips to Cancun over the years. The hotel is nice but did not like that all restaurants have dress codes for males. The buffet requires men to wear shirts with sleeves and all other restaurants require reservations and men wear pants and some require long sleeve shirts. I understand the need to be presentable during dinner but being on a beach vacation it was annoying to be turned away for not having pants! We made a reservation for one night because we were told they had slacks that they would provide but when we arrived for our reserved time were told athat they had lent all slacks out leaving us with having to eat at the buffet which was not that good. We also had to eat out in town twice because the kids did not want to eat the buffet food as there was very limited selection. We also upgraded our room which was not worth the money we paid. The bar service was not good at all. Bar tenders acted like robots had to get there attention to help us instead of them asking us what they could help us with. The worst part was we saw a rat running around in greenery twice! Upon check out no one asked how our experience was. Will never stay there again.
Grand Park Royal Infested with Bed Bugs and Poor Customer Service
I am doing a review on a resort that my family and I stayed at in Cancun and I want to make sure that no one sends their clients there, EVER!!! I did an all girls trip and we stayed at the Grand Park Royal. It was a total of 11 people and we booked 5 rooms with double beds. Arrival Day: We go to check in and discover that they do not have enough rooms to accommodate us so they proceeded to try to put us in these too small, disgusting rooms. 1 king bed and a murphy pull out bed, the furniture in the rooms were filthy and the rooms smelled bad! We refused to go into any of those rooms so the offered us the Presidential suite along with 2 rooms with double beds. The presidential suite had 2 double beds downstairs and 1 king size bed upstairs. so technically the room only held 4 people comfortably but we settled on that and put six people in the room with a roll away.
The next thing we explained to them was that we were a group and we would like to stay in the same area of the resort but instead they put one of our parties in a building that was far away from everything and on top of that one of the ladies staying in that room was handicapped and couldn;t walk long distances. We explained this to the staff checking us in and they proceeded to tell us we would have to pay for an upgrade in order to get double beds in the main building. After going back and forth with them about the fact that they were supposed to have these rooms for us because that is what was booked and calling our travel agent who contacted the Apple vacations representative and he came to the desk and spoke to the staff they agreed to move them into the main building at no additional charge. Meanwhile, they had a golf cart but refused to provide a person with a disability a ride to the main building to eat. The next day we go back to the front desk to have them moved into the main building as agreed upon the day before and they again refused to move them into the main building without us paying for an upgrade. The Apple representative was no where to be found even though he was supposed to be at the resort daily from 8am-12pm. We demanded to speak with the general manager and after some back and forth they finally sent the general manager who eventually agreed to move the ladies with no additional charge. The staff at this resort was absolutely rude and unaccommodating, they refused to pull tables together so that we could sit together as a group during a meal and when asked why this couldn't happen we were told " I don't know, we just can't do it" They were obviously prejudice against black people. I went to the counter to exchange some money and was told I had to stand in this long line but when a white person walked up to the desk and asked to do the very same thing they immediately exchanged their money and did not make them wait in the line and when I addressed this issue they played dumb and said it was because of the amount I was trying to exchange which was only $20. In addition to the disgusting rooms and poor customer service, the resort was extremely boring, they did not have many activities going on and it was a complete ghost town by 9pm and there was no food available after 10-10:30pm you had to order room service however you can only order room service 1x per day or it was a $15 charge per person!!!! THE ICING ON THIS NIGHTMARE CAKE IS THAT THIS RESORT IS INFESTED WITH BED BUGS!!! Upon returning home from this nigttmare of a vacation I noticed that my daughter had what appeard to be bites all over her legs. I took her to the doctor who confiremd that they were bed bug bites. Now I have to be concerned with possibly bringing bed bugs home from this disgusting resort.
high pressure sales
This hotel is clean and nice, but their management is way too pushy trying to get you to join their member program. They failed to bring us our honeymoon package and when they finally did, the chocolate cake read "happy birthday". The infinity pool and swim up bar were under construction the entire time, as well as other guest rooms so there was loud noise in our room all week. The wait staff and bar staff are excellent. It is the management that needs work. We may return to Cancun but we will never stay at this resort again, and we will be telling our friends and family that as well.
Find another hotel
This was our 7th trip to Mexico. We always have fun and are not overly critical. But this was a bad experience. The ac did not keep the rooms cool, there was major construction, ants in the sink, and the food was ok at best. On two separate nights we got rain and the rooms flodded. Not just a puddle, but standing water from the sliding doors all the way to the bathrooms. We also got pulled into a 'short presentation' regarding the hotel's holiday club. We waisted 1/2 day and had to escape an obnoxious sales team. We have been to Mexico several times. May not return after this experience. We are disappointed with the hotel and with Apple. We tried to return home early and got little help from Apple. Our only consolation was two bottles of bad champagne. Please consider another hotel. We will not stay at this one again. We truly feel like we wasted our money and one week of vacation time.
Grand Park Royal
Hotel Concierge was relentless about timeshare and even followed us down the hallway trying to get us to come to a "special breakfast" which we repeatedly declined. As a result we avoided the concierge at all costs. Lounge bar is outdated and bar ceiling leaked during a rain storm. Entertainment at pool was ongoing each and every day, all day and into the evenings making it difficult to relax by the pool. Other than that overall hotel and service was very nice.
Good Quality Mid-Sized Resort
Hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly. Food was just fair. Being on the Gulf you would expect a variety of sea food which was not the case. Lowest priced rooms were a good size but the bathrooms were very small. Comfortable bed and pillows. Nice view of the pools (2) and the beach/gulf. Walls were paper thin and you could hear the rooms next to you. Other quests said that you should take an upgraded room. Adult & Family pool. Pool lounge chairs were very uncomfortable. Overall a good hotel for the budgetminded vacationer.
Great place but needs more nightly entertainment
Food and rooms were great but resort lacks nightly shows. Not enough indoor bars to lounge. There shouldn't be a charge to use the gym.
Not a Five golden Apple
The food was only a 2.5 star and there were only 2 restaurants besides the buffet. Not one restaurant had real butter or any bacon for breakfast. The last day the staff basically ignored us. Our phone was shut off and we could not get any water or beverages. We went to the desk to get some water sent up and they ignored us again. All the other days they came immediately? Not sure why? Our toilet broke twice, the light switch broke and the elevators were not working. Someone slipped and fell on the wet floor while we were there and taken by ambulance to the hospital. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and I would change the ratings to a 3 apple too!
There is good and bad in every hotel. When I travel I truly love to experience the culture of the state/country I'm in. The Grand Park Royal Caribe didn't feel like a chain it still could grasp a Mexican atmosphere throughout the entire hotel grounds. Staff was pleased to. Food and beverage could use improvements. Overall a fairly good experience. We
Outstanding Beautiful Resort in a Great Location
Reason for the Selection: We chose this resort based on other reviews. We like to read many reviews including the negative ones in order to get a complete understanding of the venue. Carlos (Management) responds to almost all of the reviews and this told me he cares about the opinions of his guests. This was a factor in our choosing this resort.
Initial Impression: The resort has a good curb appeal. The lobby is large with good air conditioning. There is a nice circular bar and a small snack/ice cream restaurant near the check-in area. Appeared very clean. The staff was very helpful. Concierge
gave us a brief overview of the resort but this led to a time share sales sign-up.
Rooms: We stayed in a Villa Deluxe (rm 6124) and had a spectacular ocean view outside our bedroom. The room was about 400 square feet and the separate bathroom was quite large. The balcony was about 70 square feet (very nice size.) The room was very clean and the staff (Indira, Roberto, and others) did a great job keeping our refrigerator stocked, room clean, and attended well to our requests.
Our double beds had only average mattresses. Air conditioner ran constantly but room was never below 80 degrees (good not great.)
Food: There are three main restaurants which require dinner reservations. The Asian and Italian restaurants had great ambiance. The food selection and quality was very good. We did not consider the Mexican restaurant to be as good because their menu was very limited and was seafood based. The buffet was very nice with a large selection of foods. The chefs cook omelettes, pasta, fish, and other choices depending on the meal. There are many local dishes, salads, vegetables, deserts, etc. The food quality is good. I do not understand why anyone would not like the experience. However, every review has personal experiences to be considered.
Finally, the street tacos at the snack bar next to the buffet are fantastic!!! I highly recommend that you stop by and experience this. They are cooked on the spot.
Entertainment/Amenities: The beach is beautiful!!! We had our own cabanas and lounge chairs. There are two main pool areas on the property. The water is quite warm and there are pool bars in both areas. The evening shows are pretty good. The Michael Jackson show was very entertaining and the performers were very talented. The comedy show was also fun. The resort has a private lounge if you stay in the Royal Tower or the Villa's. This was a nice place to relax and get appetizers and drinks before dinner. The spa is nice but not extravagant. Three members of our group had facials or massages which were about $100/hr. Very expensive but a nice indulgence. The gym costs eight dollars per day. The good part is that it is not crowded and you can get a good workout with weights, treadmills, and elliptical machines. There are activities planned throughout the day but this is not over done (which I thought was good.) The roof top bar (above the Italian restaurant) is a very peaceful spot to view the lagoon in the evening.
Staff: Very hard working people in general. Bell boys did a great job. I saw people cleaning constantly. Waiters, cafeteria workers, bartenders, room service, and room cleaning were all outstanding. Even the Expedia representative (Cristobol) was great.
Even though we paid our gratuities as part of our package, we did not hesitate to tip the staff an additional amount because they did a great job! Based on reading previous reviews I am under the impression that Carlos D. (Manager) has given his staff the feedback they need to perform better.
Bottom Line: If you want a relaxing yet fun experience that is more adult oriented, this place is for you. The evening dress codes at the main restaurants serve a purpose and keep a classy yet fun atmosphere. The property is beautiful and clean. The food is good for an all inclusive (considering the price) and the resort has an authentic Mexican feel to it. If you keep your expectations realistic, you will find a great value at this property. Management cares and it shows!
Room Tip: Get a Villa, they are worth the extra money. Try for an ocean view.
Total of 7 in our party 4 sisters, 2 nieces and 1 Cabana Boy(Husband of 1 sister)It was fantastic, weather great, food and bar was good not great but okay, beach nice had lot of sea weed so stayed in pool most of the time. Main pool very warm water and lot of kids, the fresh water pool was cooler and less crowded, entertainment staff in evenings was fantastic, day we was at other pool so did not participate in day activities. Mexican Restaurant was very good (except men had to wear Long pants), Oreintal was good, could not get in the Italian restaurant. I think the only complaint would be not able to get in to restaurants, and quality of the bar drinks..

Excellent and Friendly Resort
We stayed at this resort for 6 days 7/27-8/1 We enjoyed our stay and cant wait to go back. The things we liked the most was the convenience of being in the hotel zone and the friendliness of the resort staff. We felt very safe while on the resort as well as in town. Vincent at the lobby bar was fabulous. He kept our drinks full and was happy to see us each night. Alfredo in the restaurants was also one of our favorites. He was very accommodating to our needs. My husband did not pack pants to wear to the dinner at night and Alfredo graciously had a pair waiting for my husband every night so we could enjoy the meal. Daniel and Miguel were also some of our favorite waiters. But they were all nice and made us want to return again! The only negatives I have to say about the resort is the entertainment at night was not good at all. The magic show was not good and that was the only show they offered in the theatre other than the Michael Jackson tribute (which we missed seeing it) There are no night clubs or anything to do on the resort after 10 pm The adult pool is not really and adult pool as there were kids in the pool all the time. I wish we could have utilized the fitness place because it was REALLY nice. Almost better then the gym we have back home. We did to the Timeshare tour and we did buy a few timeshare "credits" If you decide to do the tour ask for Hector. You will not be disappointed and he is NOT a high pressure salesman. Hector is now one of our very good friends! This trip we took was just me and my husband. Next time we will bring the kids. This resort is VERY family friendly.
Honestly, I was kinda disappointed. First of all when we were in the check in they said they were going to give us a deluxe room with a swim up terrace . But once they actually gave us the room, it was on the third floor. We went back and we complained to get a room on the first floor ( as they mentioned it was the same price) but they said “ they were all taken but I’ve only seen three rooms taken. Also , when we went into the hotel, we were not offered drinks as everyone was. The room is nice and the bed is cozy, and I especially like the shower. The view is stunning. The beach is okay because of the seaweed, but the ocean is such a beautiful color. The pools are really pretty and I recommend take a cute Instagram pic near them. As for the entertainment, there are activities all throughout the day, but they are rather on the simpler side as to Sandos caracol. They still have a lot of options of entertainment so I give that a 6/5. As to the food, I say is was excellent. The food is delicious and yummy, and so were the drinks at the bar, and I love the bar because they have a lot of kid friendly drinks. Lots of options. But as to the service, I am extremely disappointed. The bell service took our luggage and didn’t give it back until ever, the pizza lady was extremely rude and only gave me 4 slices at once as to all of the Spanish speaking people she was nice ( I think she did didnt like us be we are Russian) and the house keeper didn’t flush after herself. The towel rude is stupid and reminds me what teacher do At school to get a pencil ( give 1 card for a towel) and the dress code for men ( my cousin is 15) and they treated him as if he was naked as he was clearly following the dress code. I’m giving this a 4.4 /5 as this one week vacation is super fun for a cheap price.
This is a great hotel.
1. The check in was smooth. There are options for upgrading at the moment. We upgraded to tower. Beautiful room with amazing view. This room includes a butler which I saw maybe one time.He will make your reservations for dinner. He supposedly reserves a Bali bed every day and brings you drinks at the pool/beach. Never got that. Not a biggie but if you pay for it.
2. Buffet, it’s ok. They don’t have a huge variety but the service is great. Food is not bad.
3. Pool, bars, beach: every area us super clean and the staff is great. Pool bar should be adults only.
My opinion is that they should not allow children where the bars are.
4. Lobby Bar. Vicente was great. We went every night before or after dinner. He already know what we like to drink.
I would definitely recommend this place. Staff is friendly, facilities are clean. Don’t let them lure you into a “presentation” or a “gift” (time share/vacation club sale) I have never seen so many sales persons. It’s a bit overwhelming.
We left a very bad hotel and found this one. Oh we were so much happier. We were greeted and treated so well when we arrived. The rooms were comfortable but the beds were a bit firm for our liking. The restaurants were fun. The food was good. Not great but we didn't come for the food. The drinks were good. The pools were lovely. I would like a bit more shade at the pools. The whole atmosphere was so much better than the place we left and really it was exactly what we wanted and needed.
Great Family Trip
