We booked a King Deluxe Ocean View Balcony. We got 2 Queen beds instead. The staff explained ..."Oh yeah, when you book with Apple, there are no guaranties." The hotel is a tired old property. Thankfully they are currently renovating. The renovation will continue through December 2017. The food is ok, but VERY overpriced, twice what we would pay in the USA for comparable quality. Drinks too. The staff was super friendly. The beach is gorgeous! We will go back to the Omni Cancun next time, and we won't book with Apple since rooms are not guaranteed.

The Westin Hotel & Spa was fantastic. The grounds were sparkling clean, the staff all spoke English and seemed to be very happy from the cleaning staff to the restaurant servers. Very friendly always saying hello or good morning. We loved the atmosphere and the beach was absolutely stunning! It was rare that we couldn't find chairs to layout on and while the hotel was fully booked it didn't seem over crowded. The rooms were well appointed and clean and honestly even more than that, the bed and pillows were super comfortable! We definitely recommend this hotel especially if you don't want a party environment. We went during spring break but had no issues whatsoever. There were no roudy guests or issues whatsoever.

Very nice hotel. I felt that the price we paid was commensurate with the hotel we were getting. Overall great value for our dollar. Extremely friendly staff and always remembered your name and where you were visiting from. They made me feel like we were staying in a five-star resort. Hotel itself was obviously older but was obviously being maintained to its maximum. You could tell they were spending money on making the hotel count where it needed it.

Can t cash a small Che ck, won t change a dollar into a peso. Tried to over charge Me for our prepaid room, no adequate lighting in the room, few towels, very long walk up ramp to get to front of hotel, no handicap assesibity! Never go back there!

When goingto theWestin Spa & Resort Cancun, always selectto stay in the Royal Beach Club. You will enjoy a lovely breakfast (included) which had a respectable variety of hot selections, fresh smoothies, and a beach view. Terrific service. Likewise, you'll enjoy a private 3-hour happy hour nightly. Another perk of the Beach Club? Your giant balcony with lounge chairs - and all ocean views. These are not perks that the guests in the main building enjoy. The pools at the beach club and the main hotelwere pristine, modern, and afforded us MORE ocean views. The beacheswere clean, andwe waded out into the ocean on clean sand and in crystal clear water. More like swimming in a pool than in an ocean. This beach is probably among the best in Cancun. Note: Do not cometo this resort if you want an all-inclusive with lots of food choices. Do not come if you wantpre-planned activities, nightly entertainment, and a party atmosphere. This is a quiet, sophisticated resort. Our room had beautiful, modern furnishings and a comfy bed with crisp, white linens and duvets. Our view was fabulous, and the beach-side service was perfect. The Westin Resort & Spa Cancun I have attached above the apple rating for the Westin Resort & Spa where we stayed for the 1 night. I have also attached what apple defines as a golden apple. I have stayed at several Cancun properties and just cannot believe that this Westin is considered a 5 golden apple. On Saturday afternoon at 3pm I went down to meet with the apple rep as that was the time slot that was given to me. Prior to that I called the Apple customer service number in America. I explained the situation stating we were very disappointed in this property and wanted to be relocated immediately. She said that the best way to go about moving is to touch base with the local Apple rep. In speaking with the local Apple Rep Gustavo, I again explained our disappoint with this property and told him that in no way was this a 5 golden apple. He told me that he would call me in an hour with hotel options. Well, about an hour and half past and we had no return call. I then called the local customer service number and they connected me to Gustavo. Apparently he had tried to call us but the PHONE in the room did not work………. He then gave me pricing that we would have to pay to be moved to the Riu hotel. We said no problem and that we would like to move first thing in the morning. He said that he would have to confirm with the RIu in the morning and that we should meet him in the lobby at 8am. We were in the Westin lobby at 8am but there was no Gustavo. Again I called the local Apple customer service number and they put me in touch with him. He then told me that all of the Riu hotels in Cancun and Playa del Carmen were sold out….. We booked a standard ocean view room, based on the room description on the apple website it shows that balcony or terrace is included. When we reached our room we had neither, the bellman said that if we wanted a balcony we would have to pay for an upgrade. The information they are listing below is misleading and false. Before we checked out the next morning I made them adjust the up-charge for the balcony room.

Great cozy beds and amazing staff. I had a small accident and asked the concierge if he could get antiseptic so I could clean my injury. I felt like it was asking a lot do I backed out and Went back to the pool. Within 5 minutes there was a staff member at my beck. If you're looking to get away and have the comfort of home on the beach. Without all the hype and price of high end resorts. Choose the Westin. 5*

We loved the close proximity of the ocean to the hotel and we loved the pools on the lagoon side and on the ocean side. The ocean side had a warm bubbly pool with seats all around which is not deep and our little grandchildren loved it. When the sun was obscured by the building we all went over to the lagoon side and stayed outside enjoying the beauty of the fading day in the 3 pools.

The Weston R&S is one the best location in Cancun clean sand swimmable water peaceful location. Now if you visiting between June and Sep get ready for one of the amazing ocean phenomenon that come to the shore ( hatching sea turtles) right in front of the hotel at night . The hotel after the renovation is excellent from food room pool and specially their services, I will defiantly goes back .

We got upgraded to junior suite for being platinum room 1117. But the room was very outdated and the balcony door was not even opening. The floor was super cold and all the noise from hall way came to our room. Never experienced something like this Staff however is super nice and friendly Breakfast was a disappointment no fresh juices at all. At local hotels in playa del carmen this was standard but here all concentrate juice. The royal beach club is nice with compl. Cocktails from 4-6 pm Better than other lounges in the USA but still not like asian or UAE standards... Beach also very nice. We loved it and beach chairs seam to be new! Wish rooms would be more modern and breakfast selection better. Thats why i had to deduct 2 stars

This place is nice, staff is friendly but not overly helpful. Food and service is just average. My kids had a great time at the flowrider, Jonathan was very friendly and made sure they had a great time. The teachers at the kids club also made our kids feel welcome. Thank you Tamara and Nubia!

THE UPSIDE: The hotel is located on a beautiful stretch of beach. Many rooms have views of not only the sea but the coastline and reef. For the most part the staff is extremely friendly and aim to please. Although dated, the rooms are clean and spacious but be advised the square footage quoted in the room detail includes the balcony. THE "CON" UPSELL: Upon-arrival be prepared for an upsell to upgrade your room that may sound too good to be true. Confirm whether the rate being quoted is for the "discounted upgraded suite" daily rate OR an "add on/upsell to the existing reservation room rate. Buyer beware! There may be misrepresentation (i.e. blatant lying) and READ what you are signing! THE VACATION CLUB TRANSITION: The hotel is transitioning to a vacation club / time share and is being renovated in stages - you must understand the GLITZ and the BIG focus of the current operation is selling the vacation club. The lobby and two main pools have been upgraded - other areas and rooms although kept relatively clean are rather dated and well past worn. The Royal Beach Club has NOT been renovated. During our visit there were no construction issues. Apparently, all work was being done inside the rooms of the building currently being renovated. It does appear that a nice facelift to a pre-existing understated exterior facade is underway. Be prepared to get the vacation club sales pitch. Fortunately, it wasn't high pressure and we were underwhelmed by the incentives so it was easy to just say "NO!" Other guests BTW may be staying at highly discounted rates (i.e., paying a weekly rate equivalent to discounted market daily rates) for participating as prospects in the vacation club sales pitch - which makes the upsell tactics even more irritating - especially, since I'm SPG Platinum. THE AMENITIES: The outdoor pools and hot-tubs are not heated - so if the air temperature is less than 80 degrees you may be uncomfortable using them. There is an adequate work out facility, the men's spa area is very small and the "heated" Jacuzzi - was a bit of a joke - for it can only accommodate two adults - not sure of the women's spa accommodations. There is surfing water feature (for a charge) at one of the pools and two dated tennis courts but no other amenities such as fitness classes or bicycles. There was a schedule of activities for children. DINING: The food at all the outlets was good at best - there was ample variety in the breakfast buffet but it still got boring after a few days. Upping the quality and rotating less variety could be helpful. The Royal Beach Club serves an attempted creative mini-meal at happy hour - let's just leave it at that. Avoid the concierge's recommendations or at least double check the reviews of any restaurants recommended. After experiencing poor service and getting deathly sick at a highly recommended restaurant we found great restaurants on Trip Advisor and Open Table - some even gave a 10% discount when we mentioned the hotel's name. GETTING AROUND: The hotel is a long distance from other restaurants, bars and shopping - cabs are on-site, the bus runs very frequently - even in the evening and is inexpensive - especially, if you pay in pesos. THE UPSHOT - Despite re-negotiating the upsell - it left a sour note on our stay and in retrospect - we truly felt conned. Thinking back, I often found a sense of spirits lifting when we left the resort property to shop and dine - that says a lot. When one checks-out and pays the bill, you have to remember you are paying for a stay in the current not the future state of the resort.

My wife and I stayed at the Westin in December for our honey moon. We were treated like royalty. Elizabeth in particular was outstanding. I still have pictures of the rose petals on the bed. The resort was very beautiful!!!
