Didn't Get the Room We Reserved
We booked a King Deluxe Ocean View Balcony. We got 2 Queen beds instead. The staff explained ..."Oh yeah, when you book with Apple, there are no guaranties."
The hotel is a tired old property. Thankfully they are currently renovating. The renovation will continue through December 2017. The food is ok, but VERY overpriced, twice what we would pay in the USA for comparable quality. Drinks too. The staff was super friendly. The beach is gorgeous! We will go back to the Omni Cancun next time, and we won't book with Apple since rooms are not guaranteed.
Super clean, relaxing, comfortable environment with friendly staff who speak English.
The Westin Hotel & Spa was fantastic. The grounds were sparkling clean, the staff all spoke English and seemed to be very happy from the cleaning staff to the restaurant servers. Very friendly always saying hello or good morning. We loved the atmosphere and the beach was absolutely stunning! It was rare that we couldn't find chairs to layout on and while the hotel was fully booked it didn't seem over crowded. The rooms were well appointed and clean and honestly even more than that, the bed and pillows were super comfortable! We definitely recommend this hotel especially if you don't want a party environment. We went during spring break but had no issues whatsoever. There were no roudy guests or issues whatsoever.
Very nice hotel. I felt that the price we paid was commensurate with the hotel we were getting. Overall great value for our dollar. Extremely friendly staff and always remembered your name and where you were visiting from. They made me feel like we were staying in a five-star resort. Hotel itself was obviously older but was obviously being maintained to its maximum. You could tell they were spending money on making the hotel count where it needed it.
Failure to a comparator!&
Can t cash a small Che ck, won t change a dollar into a peso. Tried to over charge
Me for our prepaid room, no adequate lighting in the room, few towels, very long walk up ramp to get to front of hotel, no handicap assesibity! Never go back there!
Perfect destination for a quiet, intimate vaction - perfect beach and service!
When goingto theWestin Spa & Resort Cancun, always selectto stay in the Royal Beach Club. You will enjoy a lovely breakfast (included) which had a respectable variety of hot selections, fresh smoothies, and a beach view. Terrific service. Likewise, you'll enjoy a private 3-hour happy hour nightly. Another perk of the Beach Club? Your giant balcony with lounge chairs - and all ocean views. These are not perks that the guests in the main building enjoy. The pools at the beach club and the main hotelwere pristine, modern, and afforded us MORE ocean views. The beacheswere clean, andwe waded out into the ocean on clean sand and in crystal clear water. More like swimming in a pool than in an ocean. This beach is probably among the best in Cancun. Note: Do not cometo this resort if you want an all-inclusive with lots of food choices. Do not come if you wantpre-planned activities, nightly entertainment, and a party atmosphere. This is a quiet, sophisticated resort. Our room had beautiful, modern furnishings and a comfy bed with crisp, white linens and duvets. Our view was fabulous, and the beach-side service was perfect. Thank you,Westin!
Westin was a very nice resort but my Apple representative never showed up to explained any services.
The Westin Resort & Spa Cancun
I have attached above the apple rating for the Westin Resort & Spa where we stayed for the 1 night. I have also attached what apple defines as a golden apple. I have stayed at several Cancun properties and just cannot believe that this Westin is considered a 5 golden apple. On Saturday afternoon at 3pm I went down to meet with the apple rep as that was the time slot that was given to me. Prior to that I called the Apple customer service number in America. I explained the situation stating we were very disappointed in this property and wanted to be relocated immediately. She said that the best way to go about moving is to touch base with the local Apple rep. In speaking with the local Apple Rep Gustavo, I again explained our disappoint with this property and told him that in no way was this a 5 golden apple. He told me that he would call me in an hour with hotel options. Well, about an hour and half past and we had no return call. I then called the local customer service number and they connected me to Gustavo. Apparently he had tried to call us but the PHONE in the room did not work………. He then gave me pricing that we would have to pay to be moved to the Riu hotel. We said no problem and that we would like to move first thing in the morning. He said that he would have to confirm with the RIu in the morning and that we should meet him in the lobby at 8am. We were in the Westin lobby at 8am but there was no Gustavo. Again I called the local Apple customer service number and they put me in touch with him. He then told me that all of the Riu hotels in Cancun and Playa del Carmen were sold out….. We booked a standard ocean view room, based on the room description on the apple website it shows that balcony or terrace is included. When we reached our room we had neither, the bellman said that if we wanted a balcony we would have to pay for an upgrade. The information they are listing below is misleading and false. Before we checked out the next morning I made them adjust the up-charge for the balcony room.
Great cozy beds and amazing staff. I had a small accident and asked the concierge if he could get antiseptic so I could clean my injury. I felt like it was asking a lot do I backed out and Went back to the pool. Within 5 minutes there was a staff member at my beck. If you're looking to get away and have the comfort of home on the beach. Without all the hype and price of high end resorts. Choose the Westin. 5*
the room made it
the ocean was steps from my door the room made it
We loved the close proximity of the ocean to the hotel and we loved the pools on the lagoon side and on the ocean side. The ocean side had a warm bubbly pool with seats all around which is not deep and our little grandchildren loved it. When the sun was obscured by the building we all went over to the lagoon side and stayed outside enjoying the beauty of the fading day in the 3 pools.
stay at the westin
Very nice and clean room. Service was good. The view from my room was quit pretty. Food was good.

Best Beach in Cancun, Better Staff
I was scared. I read some of the reviews. Typically we stay in 4 and 5 star hotels. This was a total risk for us given some of the reviews and the renovations.
When we arrived the hotel was under major renovation. Honestly, my first reaction was "uh oh we made a mistake." But within a few hours I realized that I was wrong. This place is in the best beach location in Cancun. And their staff is absolutely amazing. Carlos is the head of all restaurants and staff, but he rolls up his sleeves and gets involved with each guest, and his entire staff follows. One of our favorite guys works the swim up bar in the main pool, his name is Francisco. He will make you special drinks unique to you, and he will also challenge you to a game of "Pigs." It's a dice game similar to craps, but hilarious and so fun.
We stayed at the "Royal Beach Club" section, but both sections are connected and you can roam back and forth. Our balcony room overlooked the ocean, but as soon as you opened the front door you can see the beautiful Lagoon too. You quickly realize that you are living in paradise. Even though there was constant construction noise while we where there, it didn't matter at all to us, that noise simply faded away.
Luis and Mary give the best massages, and they made my wife so happy and we say them throughout the resort. Each time they were so nice and made us feel at home.
We met many guests who have been coming to this place for 10+ years. They don't want to stay anywhere else. It's very much like a family atmosphere. If you treat the staff with a little bit of respect, they will treat you like family.
The entire staff at the beach club was phenomenal, David, Vincente, sorry I can't remember all their names, they were just so great. David even had the kitchen make my wife special pancakes on our last day.
There is another Westin in Cancun, there's also a Ritz Carlton. You can stay there for a little bit more, but here's the thing...
This location is the #1. Just south is neighboring Club Med and that's it, meaning there is a Jedi that kicks out and protects the ocean from rip tides. We were able to swim the entire time and it was awesome. If you walk up the beach you will see the waves are too strong to really swim and enjoy the ocean. The water is completely clear, a light green and blue water that's difficult to describe, but so beautiful.
There's another thing... Those places are really crowded. Some of the typical Westin guests moved to this Westin (formerly known as Westin Regina) because there's nowhere to sit at the pool / beach at the "upscale" Westin. This place isn't a party atmosphere, it's laid back. And it's exactly what WE wanted. You have the restaurants, bars, pools, but you can also sit under a hut on the beach completely in solitude.
So yeah, the rooms aren't a 4 star. But it's nice. And they are renovating all rooms so you can request a new one and I'm sure it will be 4 star and some maybe even a 5 star very soon.
You just have to decide what you are looking for. It also depends on the type of person you truly are. If you go on vacation with a positive attitude looking for the "good," then you will have an amazing and memorable time at the Westin Resort and Spa. If you are someone who looks for "all the things that are wrong," then you should probably stay at the Ritz or the other Westin Lagunamar, because those will have "less wrong." Although I'd argue you will still be miserable, ha!
If you are looking for all inclusive, we learned you can actually buy a "day pass" from neighboring Club Med. It's about $100 per person. Includes all meals drink and activities I think. We actually didn't do it, we loved this place so much.
Anyway, I never write reviews, but I loved this place so much that I felt compelled to write.
Not up to Westin standards
Luckily we only stayed at this hotel for two nights as it is far from being luxurious.
Check-in was already difficult when I asked for a let checkout, with staff berating me about their policies and just rolling her eyes. Luckily later a manager called who was very accommodating. Still, not off to a good start.
We stayed in the Club tower and had lounge access included. The lounge was pretty standard and open to the club pool. The first morning we were pretty much ignored and helped ourselves until a manager (I think) approached us when we were leaving asking if we wanted coffee.....yes, 30 minutes ago. When we informed him that we were leaving he simply barked at us to wait and sign a check.
Else, staff was very friendly and helpful. But, the lounge is quite dated. And so is the pool and the area around it. Everything looks like it needs renovations.
The room was large and the bed comfortable, but it was very dated. Furniture was very old and looked awful, the bathroom was tiny.
This hotel has probably seen better times. I won´t be back.
From bad to worse 2018
I decided to give the hotel one last chance I stayed again and this time they put me in a room that it was outdated and does not match any of the pictures on the website also there was no water and no hot water for 6 hours. 160 us dollars for this 2 star room . I'm also included the apology that their management gave me a free breakfast buffet which are turned down for of that room for being inadequate and no water please see pictures When the water did come on look how dirty it was... the management would not let me cancel to my reservation and go to another hotel
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in May.
As is typical with Westin hotels, the service was superior. Everyone was extremely friendly and overly helpful.
The property is beautiful and well-maintained with multiple buildings, restaurants and bars. Travel between buildings can be done by golf carts that are readily available.
The rooms were clean and well maintained and we found it to be peaceful and quiet.
One advantage of this hotel over others in the main hotel zone is that it is one of the closest to the airport but yet still right on the beach. We found that to be a benefit.
There were no disappointments here.
If I was to try hard to find a negative aspect I would say, it is about 5 miles from the main hotel zone. But once having visited the main hotel zone, we found no strong reason to return and so our location was perfect for us. If you do chose to visit the main hotel zone, the bus comes literally every few minutes (or more) and costs 12 pesos (yes, less than $1 or $1 even if all you have is USD).
Most excursions pick up from any of the hotels along Cancun's beachside so we found the location to be perfect and the scenary beautiful (right on the beach).
We would definitely recommend this hotel to couples and families as well. It is typical of the high quality standard of the Westin chain.
Love the city, not a fan of the resort
I just got back from spending a little under a week at the Westin Resort and Spa and we were less than impressed. There were several factors that led me to the conclusion that we would definitely not be staying at another Westin property the next time we come back to Cancun.
We booked back in January with the knowledge that there were renovations underway. The booking site indicated that the renovations would be completed by March of 2018. Unfortunately, it looks like those renovations were completed, but further renovations were planned and not communicated, so we arrived to find that there were more renovations taking place. This meant that we spent most of our one planned beach-day being serenaded by the sounds of construction, and that one of the resort’s nicer looking restaurants (Sea & Stones) was closed.
The check-in process was smooth enough, and the concierge called us shortly after we got to our room to ask if we had any questions and said that she had a few gifts if we would stop by and see her later. We coordinated with some friends to get dinner since we arrived in the late afternoon and headed down to see the concierge on the way. She was very nice and polite and gave us a few recommendations of things to do. Immediately after that, she began trying to convince us to sit through their 90-minute presentation for their vacation club/timeshare thing, which we really did not appreciate. I do not go on vacation to be solicited for a timeshare, vacation club, or whatever it is that they call it.
After leaving the concierge and meeting up with our friends, we went out to eat at one of the nearby restaurants. When we got back, we all planned to get changed and go to one of the pools at the building that they were staying in (which was a different building than we were put in for some reason, even though the resort was obviously nowhere near capacity). Not being sure how to get to the pool area of that building, we went in the front door to ask the concierge, only to be pressured again to sign up for the 90-minute sales presentation the next morning. We once again made it clear that we were not interested, and she showed us to the pool area. We spent a bit of time there and then headed up for the night.
The room itself appeared to be recently renovated, though the bathroom left a lot to be desired… For starters, turning on the faucet for the sink is like turning on a garden hose with your thumb over the nozzle. There is no flow of water, just a spray that guarantees that anything you have on the counter is going to end up wet. Secondly, the water in the shower has two temperatures – cold and scalding… Through a lot of trial and error, my girlfriend discovered if you turn the hot water all the way on, then barely turn on the cold water, the shower comes to a tolerable temperature. Turn either knob even a little after that and you are in for a bad time… Lastly – the toilet does not do a very good job of making sure that everything is evacuated (if you catch my drift) when flushing. We had to flush the toilet at least 2 or three times in order for it to actually flush everything down.
Aside from the bathroom, the rest of the room was pretty nice. We upgraded during booking to the “Deluxe Ocean View” option, and the view from the room turned out to be great. The bed was also extremely comfortable.
One other aggravation was that each time that we left the property to walk to the bus or down the street to a restaurant, one of the parking lot attendants would approach us and warn us that individuals representing other resorts would approach us on the sidewalk and pester us into sitting through one of their own sales pitches. This never occurred on any of the days that we were walking down the sidewalk – which was really just about every day. We did find it humorous (and annoying) though that they approached us and warned us about this multiple times when the only ones that had been trying to talk us into sitting through a sales pitch was the resort that we were already staying at.
It didn’t occur to us until the last full day, but the only restaurant at the resort that my girlfriend and I had seen open was the sports bar. The Sea and Stones restaurant on the beach was closed for renovations, but their website showed that they have three restaurants in total. We eventually found that the third restaurant (which is called El Palmar on their website, but is actually called Arrecifes) is actually tucked away nondescriptly in a corner of the lobby that most people probably don’t even glance at. Perhaps if the concierge was not so busy with trying to talk us into a 90-minute sales meeting, they could have covered the included amenities. We were pretty annoyed that we didn’t find out about this restaurant until the last day of our trip, because the food and service was outstanding.
To top off an already negative experience - the final night before leaving, at approximately 9pm, the smoke detector in the room started to chirp every 10 or 15 minutes, as if the battery needed to be replaced. Needless to say, the idea that the maintenance department may not be regularly testing and changing batteries in smoke detectors was a bit unnerving. I don’t know for sure that was the actual problem, but making occasional chirping noises is usually a sign that the battery needs to be replaced.
Overall – we had a great trip. I absolutely love the city and all that there is to do. We will definitely be back – but it will be at a different hotel or resort.
