Sun Palace - Exceptional
Great experience. Ask for 6th floor upgrade facing south, worth the extra cost for the view
had stayed in this hotel last summer and service seemed a little better than- not horrible but not what it had been. Also the room service carts are extremely noisy at 6 am (knew that time each and every day) The need to address that issue. Also at the spa they hadn't changed the disposable face covers on the massage table - very disturbing to see someone's make up on there when you are to put your face in the same one.
Friends and Fun at the Sun Palace
We thought the Sun Palace was a very nice place with excellent food and service. The only small things lacking are the small pools, the lack of daytime and night time entertainment and no buffet at dinner. There are only 4 restaurants and no buffet.
The only problems we had was the paint was chipping off the walls on the balcony so the balcony was always littered with paint chips. The only other problem was the reception of the Apple Rep. No one met us at the airport baggage claim and no one told us to look for an AMSTAR rep versus and Apple Rep. The Apple Rep never showed up at the hotel to help us arrange transportation to the airport on our date of departure. Apple was not impressive this time. Very disappointed.
My wife and I came here for our honeymoon, and were constantly blown away by this hotel, the views were fantastic, the staff was consistantly striving to make our stay even better, and there were only trivial things that were left for us to complain about.
LOVED THIS RESORT!! WOULD RETURN 100 TIMES OVER!!!
Absolutely loved this resort! Beautiful white sand beach, perfect turquoise water, drinks are excellent! Hotel staff is wonderful and always go above and beyond to satisfy guests! Only about 250 rooms from what we were told, it was quiet and intimate, but we also met some great people and had a ton of fun! The food at this resort was hands down the best all inclusive food I have had to date! Can't wait to go back, hoping to go with family and friends in the future!
they had a time share person from beach palace talk to us he was terrible
sun palace resort
a beautiful couples only resort. Very special welcome at the door, exceptionally nice workers who were very accommodating, food and food service excellent. A relaxing stay with no worries. One minor issue with the hot water regulating in the shower. And a little confusion over who was to direct us to activities and such, hotel people got our attention first.
Very clean and beautiful. I had one problem. Air conditioner was not up to par first night. Guy came and changed the filter, said it was dirty, and they gave us another room that evening. Food was excellent. Service is friendly. You have to leave a room key in a holder mounted on the wall in your room, or your a/c and lights don't work. Also, if you leave your balcony door open, it shuts off your ac.
for the general manager
Upon arrival, we were not told to go to the service desk where they provide information on restaurants in other hotels. (upgraded to consierge) Asked consierge about the wok and with times of michael jackson show at beach palace and was not told men had to wear pants and couldnt go in. they need to be made aware of correct information on the excursions. were told we needed towels at wet n wild, we didnt. Ferry times to go to Island Mareja were wrong. were told we would receive chairs at coco bongo and werent. last year they provided popcorn continuously in the lobby bar and this year i had to constantly ask for it. Twice we had to put out beach chairs and umbrellas ourselves. there was no staff to do that. last year we were given romantic dinner as part of upgrade. this year we had to use 300 credits which was not worth it. they forgot to bring us the appetizer, were short on staff, the appetizer and dessert were so small is was a joke. Last year they gave us more towels and decorated our bed with one at night. this year we had to ask for towels. i had 2 massages which were over the pool area and could hear the bass from the music at the pool. even asked the therapist to make music louder in the room.Andfinally when we checked out. they didnt take our bands off and when we got in the van for the airport,we had to get out for them to remove them. It was such a disappointment this year compared to last year. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful but did't give the correct info. they should all go to these excursions to learn about these items so when your guests come to your hotel and cancun, they will be correctly advised.
We spent six nights and had a great time. The staff and food are wonderful. The beach is one of the most beautiful that I ve ever seen. We will return!

another great vacation in the sun palace
Just got back from Sun Palace Cancun after another great trip. Staff at this hotel are excellent in every department,dined in every restaurant and can recommend all of them, best meal was the buffet night for Mexican holiday.Bar staff and waiters could not do enough for you special thanks to Paul and Pedro and all the other staff too many to mention.Thanks also to Erik front of house who helped us this year and also two years ago on our first visit thanks to all and hope to see you in the future.
Relaxing and Romantic
We travelled to the Sun Palace as a nice getaway, were greeted very kindly and given a nicer room than what we had booked. I asked the concierge to give us something quiet if possible and we got room 203. It has a beautiful view of the ocean and a little back pool...the hotel next door is being remodelled so it can be loud during the day but they do not start work very early so it is not a problem.
The people in the hotel were very kind and helpful, I was weary about the Timeshare pitch but I was lucky to cut the speech short when we arrived and when going to the SPA booking I let the guy there know I would not be interested in any pitch and did not want to be disturbed regardless of how much "funny money" they offered us. He was cool and "unfroze" those credites without us being hassled.
The food selection was broad and an effort was made to provide a variety in what we ate, but it wasn't excellent in any capacity. I was let down by all three restaurants, where the food was bland and either over or under cooked. They excelled in the buffet offer, however so I wasn't too put off. Shout out to the crunchy bacon and the amazing croissants, as well as the made to order taco bar
This is an all inclusive hotel, food and drinks are great. We stayed for a week in early September, this was the 4th time we stayed in this hotel. We became VIP members since our second trip, that is how much we like the hotel, amenities and service. As remembers, we are guarantee a room in the concierge level and ocean views, the rooms are clean, comfortable and have a Jacuzzi tub, also the balcony is very spacious. Cleaning crew comes 2 times per day to restock items, the mini bar has all kinds of drinks and snack, there is also an espresso coffee machine.
Stunning Hotel & AMAZING STAFF
I booked this hotel in sept 16 for a surprise trip for my husband, I booked a lagoon view room, and couldnt wait to get there...
On arrival, we were greeted with a hot towel and very big smiles from the very hard working meet & greet, they showed us to the reception area, where a very sweet young chap ( so sorry im no good at remembering names), greeted us, and checked us in, we were then offered an '' upgrade'' to ocean view, as I had specifically wanted the lagoon view, we said that we would take a look at the lagoon view first, then check the ocean view, and we could decide on viewing...
I had not seen many if any reviews on the lagoon view, so I was a little worried as to what we would see, but, the room was stunning, very spacious, hot tub and double sunbeds on the balcony with the perfect....ish view of the lagoon, just what I wanted and paid for, BUT....the only thing that stopped us from staying in there was the BUILDERS & CONSTRUCTION PEOPLE NEXT DOOR!!!... I couldnt believe it, so we said ok, we can have a look at the ocean view, we went to floor 8 from floor 3, he opened the door.... and WOW WOW........
The room ( 810) was fully decorated out for hubby and I with rose petals over the huge bed, around the tub, the table, that had a bottle of red wine and 2 glasses, there was also a sweet little birthday card for hubby! and an anniversary banner for us, , we took one look out of the patio window, and we were speechless, we opened the door, and the view was so die for, we didnt need to say anything more... this was definitely the room for us for our 2 week stay.
Yes it did cost a little extra, but it was better to pay the extra than have construction workers waking you up at 7am...I really wanted the lagoon room, so I could post a review of it, had it not been for the construction workers, we would have stayed.
So this maybe a little long winded but bear with me, ;
We stated to the reception that we wanted to just go to our room, and shower, change and unpack, we did not want to be bothered by the resort credit people, we were so tired after our 10 hour flight, we took the decision not to go with the resort credits, and they did not bother us after our arrival.
A polite, firm no thankyou is all thats needed.
our room ; 810
An amazing room, with everything that you could possibly need ;
Huge shower, separate toilet, twin sinks & mirrors, big wardrobe with hangers, a coded safe, massive hot tub, huge bed ( very comfy), table and chairs, bedside cabinets, drinks cabinet, mini fridge ( re-stocked daily), lots of drawers, and a balcony that was small but had a small table and 2 chairs so you can sit relax and admire the stunning views.
There is also air-con, which was brilliant, its so cool in the room when you return from the pool & beach.
FOOD & DRINK ;
On the all inclusive, everything is paid for, and at your fingertips.
There is 24 hour room service, that we did take advantage of especially for breakfast, A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO '' OUR LITTLE VICKY,
You have a room service breakfast menu ticket, that you can complete and leave on the hook of your door before 3am, and for most of our stay, our little Vicky arrived with morning coffee, and breakfast, at the time we asked for, and with a huge smile, she has to be the BEST waitress on the team, We miss you already Vicky... xx
You have a choice of 4 restaurants to eat, The Mexican a la carte, The Italian, The Oriental and The stake, we did visit all, and only complained about one meal during our stay.
A big thank you to ; Mauritizio ( hopefully I have the spelling correct), Ivan in the Oriental, Frieda in the Mexican, and the 2 beach servers, ( again so sorry I forgot your names, these guys work so hard, walking the beach making sure that your drink is full, if its empty they check to see if you want a top up, they really do earn their tips, also a big thankyou to the life guard on the beach, he kept us all safe when storms were approaching, he knows what hes doing, people pay attention if he blows his whistle, its for a reason, he also plays a apart in the Turtle Conservation, ( more on that later).
Thankyou to all the staff that assisted us to have an amazing holiday. You guys are Sun Palace, keep up the good work.
Overall the food & drink were very good, there is always something that you can eat, and if you dont see something that you like, then ask the staff, their motto is '' its a pleasure'' and they all do an amazing job, if you do not ask, you wont get.
Ok so the entertainment is not for everyone, during the day, your offered to join in activities such as ; beach vollyball, pool vollyball, yoga, pool games, and more, if you dont want to join in, again a polite no thank you is all thats needed.
Evenings, you have a variety ; Michael Jackson tribute, ( very good show) magician, fire show ( again very good), karaoke, Jersey Boys tribute ( very good), Beach party, ( which got cancelled due to storms), singers in the lobby bar, just keep an eye out for the little posters in the lifts. ideally it could do with a little more variety, especially if your stay is 2 weeks, but all shows were good, we enjoyed them.
We had the pleasure of releasing baby turtles back into the ocean on 3 occasions during our stay, so that people do not get confused as to where to go, if you go to the showers, by the wooden steps that go onto the beach, you will be in the right place.
One top tip from me, if your awake at around 3.30am / 4am, and go onto your balcony, look onto the beach, you maybe lucky enough to see the Mumma turtles laying her eggs, she digs very deep into the sand, and shes there for quite a while, due to my body clock being out of sorts, many early mornings I got to witness 5 maybe 6 mummas laying her eggs, I was so blessed to have been able to witness this, there is a very big turtle conservation policy along the hotel zone, you will see the guys coming onto the beach, and collecting the newly laid eggs, they then transfer these eggs to a protected area, where they then bury them back into the sand until they hatch, guests can then view them coming out of the sand and the conservation guys then release them into the ocean, pending the time of day, they are usually released at around 10pm.
This is a brilliant experience, and not one to be missed.
There are gift shops and a jeweler in the hotel, quite expensive, but very nice, if by any chance you change your mind on a purchase, be warned, they do not give refunds, only an exchange.
Excursions/ trips ; lots on offer
if your wanting to visit the dolphins, I would highly recommend the Platinum Dolphin Swim & Garrafon Park, Thanks to our TUI rep Jason, he saved us a fortune, as I have always wanted to swim with the dolphins, I was going to pre-book via the dolphin discovery website, but decided to wait until I arrived to find out which experiences were the better, I originally wanted to do the trainer for the day, it was a good job that I waited, we were informed that its not the best trip, and was advised to do the platinum as this was a full day, all inclusive, and more time with the dolphins.
I have done a full review on dolphin discovery, feel free to view on my other reviews.
This was by far the best ever experience, and one that I fully recommend
Other trips were available, speak to the TUI rep, you can save alot of money..
You do not need to take your own towels, towels are replenished in the rooms, and there is a towel station just by the pool bar.
There is a clear sign asking guests to return the towels, this is a brilliant idea, but such a shame that some people decided to just leave their wet dirty towels on the sunbeds on leaving the pool & beach at the end of the day.
we felt so sorry for the little guy coming around collecting them all, he piled them high on his body, working so hard, then returning to tidy the beach, ( we tipped him to, so deserving of a little extra in his pocket).
TIPPING STAFF ;
we had no idea of how much to tip, when to tip etc, that we decided to get 5000 pesos, ( £220) for tipping, and by goodness me do the staff earn every single penny.
We tipped every single person that served us, and it was money well spent.
Tip what you can afford, and for great service, these people deserve that little extra, we were never disappointed, and always had good service.
We understand that the '' gratuities '' are included in the price you pay for staying at the hotel, but once again, the staff are the hotel, they are at your service and nothing is a bother to them, wether it be a 20 peso note ( £1) or a 50 pesso note ( £2.50), it helps the staff a great deal.
I know this was a very long review, but if helps then Ive done my bit to make your stay a very pleasant one.
Any questions feel free to send me a message.
There is so much more that I could say about this beautiful hotel, if you have any questions please feel free to message me, Im more than happy to help.
Mr Winkler, its a shame you didnt make yourself known to us during our stay, I wanted to thankyou personally for granting my requests prior to arrival.
Your staff are the ones that make Sun Palace, they are a massive credit to the hotel.
Would we return ... yes, but maybe in a different month, we arrived 25th august hoping for lovely weather for the duration of our stay, but we did have some rainy days and stormy nights, not the hotels fault, its just mother nature,
Again staff reassured us that we were in no danger, ( hurricanes and earth quakes as per in the latest news reports).
We did have some very nice hot days, which we really enjoyed on the beach, so dont be put off, just relax and enjoy.
Was this a 5* experience? ; for us DEFINITELY,
Wife purchased a blue sapphire ring from Sun Palace, Cancun lobby jewelry store using $300 resort credits and paying $100 in tax and excess amount past what was allowed to be used in resort credits. Upon arriving back to Ohio only a week later the blue stone fell out. Jewelry store refused to fix it because it was so cheap and the stone was fake. Hartville, Ohio coin and jewelry stated I had about 75 cents in scrap silver. I called the other couples who went with us and they had their rings checked out. Theirs were also fake. Very scratchy. Food was horrible. Stay away.
