Sun Palace - Exceptional
Great experience. Ask for 6th floor upgrade facing south, worth the extra cost for the view
had stayed in this hotel last summer and service seemed a little better than- not horrible but not what it had been. Also the room service carts are extremely noisy at 6 am (knew that time each and every day) The need to address that issue. Also at the spa they hadn't changed the disposable face covers on the massage table - very disturbing to see someone's make up on there when you are to put your face in the same one.
Friends and Fun at the Sun Palace
We thought the Sun Palace was a very nice place with excellent food and service. The only small things lacking are the small pools, the lack of daytime and night time entertainment and no buffet at dinner. There are only 4 restaurants and no buffet.
The only problems we had was the paint was chipping off the walls on the balcony so the balcony was always littered with paint chips. The only other problem was the reception of the Apple Rep. No one met us at the airport baggage claim and no one told us to look for an AMSTAR rep versus and Apple Rep. The Apple Rep never showed up at the hotel to help us arrange transportation to the airport on our date of departure. Apple was not impressive this time. Very disappointed.
My wife and I came here for our honeymoon, and were constantly blown away by this hotel, the views were fantastic, the staff was consistantly striving to make our stay even better, and there were only trivial things that were left for us to complain about.
LOVED THIS RESORT!! WOULD RETURN 100 TIMES OVER!!!
Absolutely loved this resort! Beautiful white sand beach, perfect turquoise water, drinks are excellent! Hotel staff is wonderful and always go above and beyond to satisfy guests! Only about 250 rooms from what we were told, it was quiet and intimate, but we also met some great people and had a ton of fun! The food at this resort was hands down the best all inclusive food I have had to date! Can't wait to go back, hoping to go with family and friends in the future!
they had a time share person from beach palace talk to us he was terrible
sun palace resort
a beautiful couples only resort. Very special welcome at the door, exceptionally nice workers who were very accommodating, food and food service excellent. A relaxing stay with no worries. One minor issue with the hot water regulating in the shower. And a little confusion over who was to direct us to activities and such, hotel people got our attention first.
Very clean and beautiful. I had one problem. Air conditioner was not up to par first night. Guy came and changed the filter, said it was dirty, and they gave us another room that evening. Food was excellent. Service is friendly. You have to leave a room key in a holder mounted on the wall in your room, or your a/c and lights don't work. Also, if you leave your balcony door open, it shuts off your ac.
for the general manager
Upon arrival, we were not told to go to the service desk where they provide information on restaurants in other hotels. (upgraded to consierge) Asked consierge about the wok and with times of michael jackson show at beach palace and was not told men had to wear pants and couldnt go in. they need to be made aware of correct information on the excursions. were told we needed towels at wet n wild, we didnt. Ferry times to go to Island Mareja were wrong. were told we would receive chairs at coco bongo and werent. last year they provided popcorn continuously in the lobby bar and this year i had to constantly ask for it. Twice we had to put out beach chairs and umbrellas ourselves. there was no staff to do that. last year we were given romantic dinner as part of upgrade. this year we had to use 300 credits which was not worth it. they forgot to bring us the appetizer, were short on staff, the appetizer and dessert were so small is was a joke. Last year they gave us more towels and decorated our bed with one at night. this year we had to ask for towels. i had 2 massages which were over the pool area and could hear the bass from the music at the pool. even asked the therapist to make music louder in the room.Andfinally when we checked out. they didnt take our bands off and when we got in the van for the airport,we had to get out for them to remove them. It was such a disappointment this year compared to last year. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful but did't give the correct info. they should all go to these excursions to learn about these items so when your guests come to your hotel and cancun, they will be correctly advised.
We spent six nights and had a great time. The staff and food are wonderful. The beach is one of the most beautiful that I ve ever seen. We will return!

I have just returned from an 11 night break in this hotel.
It was lovely.
Everything about this hotel was great, the beach was stunning and the staff are amazing.
Everyone has a smile and nothing is to much trouble. The food is the best I’ve had at an all inclusive resort.
I must say a special thanks to the Public Relations lady that I bumped into in the lift, and she arranged for our room to be decorated for my husbands birthday. (I’m so sorry I didn’t catch her name) Hopefully we will get to return to this hotel soon.
I went with my girlfriend for 6 nights in January. First trip to Cancun for each of us and we booked this place because of its good reviews on Trip Advisor and because it didn't seem like a party hotel (it isn't). We are 25 and were possibly the youngest people there, but that was great because we got a relaxing, fun environment without crazy late-night partying.
The reviews were 100% accurate regarding the staff. They are amazing and it really makes the experience go from 4 stars to almost 5 stars. They are respectful, professional and good at their jobs. We went to all the restaurants, ordered food on the beach and had room service multiple times. The service was always quick.
The hotel itself is a 4 star hotel (as advertised). We had a Junior Suite and it was nice but not fancy. The jacuzzi was pretty sweet though. The dining areas are somewhat elegant, the halls and lobby areas are nice, the spa was clean and the gym is very good. So definitely 4 stars, but don't expect Ritz Carlton luxury.
The drinks are outstanding. Top-shelf liquors and any kind of cocktail you want. The food was good. Again, it isn't world class dining but who really expects that at an all inclusive. It was tasty and there were plenty of options. We liked the Mexican place the best for dinner. Breakfast/lunch was awesome (we liked it better than the dinner restaurants).
My one complaint was the quiet pool was under maintenance and there was no warning about this. There were loud construction noises coming from it during the day and it hampered my ocean view. Based on what I saw, I would expect this construction to carry on for at least a few more weeks.
Overall: 4.5 stars. I would recommend.
Great Stay, except...
Let me start off with the fact that my wife and I enjoyed our week at the Sun Palace and will return later this year. There is one issue you should be aware of and that is most of this review. I am hoping the sun Palace sees it, but i am sure they have and have decided to continue with the practice.
We stayed 7 nights at the Sun Palace in january 2018. We purchased the vacation through Costco. It included resort credits, a costco card, to/from airport transfers and 7 nights all inclusive.
We had been to mexico once before, 12 or more years ago and have been going to Jamaica since. This was our first couples vacation to mexico.
The airport is very hectic and we were approached non-stop all the way thru. We thought we made it when someone said sun palace and we followed them over. Never follow anyone over anywhere. They pressured us, lied to us and told us many untruths about our resort. We finally got out and found our transportation.
When we got to the resort we were greeted with towels and a drink and it started to become less stressful. We could not check in yet but they gave us a slip that allowed us to use facilities until our room was ready. They emailed us when it was ready but we were not reading emails so we found out by checking with front desk.
We were approached by the sales people who "allowed" us to go to lunch since we were starving, but they were waiting for us when we left. We sat down with the sales person and she told us we could get additional spa credit and a tour for free if we went to a 90 minute presentation of their new resort at another Palace resort the next day. We took it and the next morning they paid for a taxi ride down the road to another Palace resort where we met with more sales people and were introduced to Alex, who sat with us as we ate breakfast and we had a relatively nice time learning about the resort, the company and Alex. So far so good. Alex then went to show us some rooms at the resort that members could use and even pulled over a passing member to ask them if they enjoyed the membership. You can tell the type of guest based on the color of the band. Black, Silver and white were members, all other colors were not. We had Yellow.
After the tour, we sat in a special room with others doing the tour/sales pitch and Alex started talking numbers. The membership plans are expensive. He started off with the two lowest which were for 100/200 weeks and the cost was 30,000 or 50,000 USD that required a deposit of like 10% and then you could pay off over 10 years at 10% interest. When we said no thanks, Alex came up with additional combinations of weeks/level, threw in interest free, threw in additional free weeks, etc. The key here is that you had to say yes right now. You could not go and enjoy your vacation, it was a now or never offer. We said no and that brought on sales person two.
the new sales person introduced himself, Alex told him what the offers on the table were and then said good bye and left us with him. He sweetened the offers, he gave more weeks, he gave more free weeks, he pressured us also, now or never. We said no. That of course brought in the big guns and he handed us off to another sales person, a manager, a top sales man, not really sure. He sweetened the offers also. By this time we were being offered:
35 weeks at the lowest membership level, 2 weeks free and 2 weeks half price and the cost had dropped to 13,200 with zero interest to pay off. Quite a drop.
We finally said no and he escorted us to the desk where we would get our free spa time and tour to zip line adventure.
That was a very unpleasant experience and it took aver 2 hours of our time. The thing is, after a few days at the resort, we might have said yes. We liked the food, we liked our room, the people were friendly, more friendly than we had at Sandals in Jamaica. If they had outlined in detail the different options and allowed us to think over the course of our week there, we might have signed up to one of the offers. But instead of being open and honest and allowing a couple to go discuss they decided NOW or NEVER was the best approach and we always suspect that approach and say no. They were the car sales department of vacations.
If they were to send us the same offers now, with a good explanation on what they included and I could compare them, we might choose one. We are planning on returning to the Sun Palace and would be willing to check out one of the other Palace resorts also. They could have had us if they did not use the high pressure, used car tactics. If a resort/resort company is good, the product will sell itself. We have been to Sandals 6 times and never had this issue. If sandals had a Mexico resort we would probably have gone there. We wanted to go to Mexico a few times.
So my advice is to say no to the 90 minute presentation unless you enjoy that stuff. We were only going to do 1 tour anyway and would have paid for it out of resort credits or our self. The 90 minute + sales pitch was the one negative we had our whole vacation.
the Sun Palace is a small resort and they do have areas marked off for the VIP people, but they are small and there is plenty of beach. The food was good but there are only 4 restaurants. We liked the Italian, Mexican and Steak restaurant. The Thai one was not as good, but we only went once, so we may have hit a bad time. We waited a long time to eat and they forgot our soup but remembered before we complained and we had our dinner and soup the same time. The people were very nice and the food was good though.
We will be returning to the Sun Palace because it was small cozy and very friendly. It does not have stuff like windsurfing, sailboards or such, but for a couple looking for a romantic retreat or a couple looking for a relaxing retreat, it is perfect. If you like to party and need a lot of activities at the hotel, then the sun palace is not for you.
This was a return trip for us. We were bumped to The Sun Palace last year due to an over booking. As a result, we were given a complimentary stay for one week. We had a few choices of resorts but we chose The Sun Palace, as we had such a great time last year.
We had very little expectation for our trip this year as it was free. We figured we would get the worst room in the hotel and sub par service. Well, were we wrong!!! Upon arrival, we were automatically upgraded to a junior suite, which was lovely. We were asked if we would be celebrating anything during our stay and my husband told them that I would be celebrating my birthday. On the day of my birthday, there was a beach party with a live band who sang "Happy Birthday" to me, as well as a cake was provided. It was great fun! When we returned to our room that night, it was decorated with balloons, confetti, rose petals and an awesome cake made of towels!! As well, champagne and cake pops were sent to our room!! If that wasn't enough, my husband and I felt the tremors of an earthquake in Honduras as we sat on the balcony! I joked with my husband by saying " The Sun Palace even arranged to have the earth move on my birthday!"
The rest of our stay was perfect. Everyday our housekeeping staff left some sort of surprise sculpture and the turn down service always left some sort of surprise as well! The staff throughout the resort was awesome as well. There was not one thing I could complain about.
The only downer was I ended up with Pink Eye, but I could have contracted that anywhere, as we took the bus a few times. The pharmacist that I talked was very helpful and provided me with some drops that brought some relief. He told me there was a bit of a problem with Pink Eye in Mexico this year.
So, thank you Palace Resorts, for your very generous gift. We will never forget you!!
We had a fabulous relaxing stay at Sun Palace for our honeymoon in June. The location is amazing , on the beautiful white sand beach. It seems to be in a quieter area than some of the hotels further up the strip, but this suited us perfectly as we wanted a romantic relaxing stay.
Everything about this place is 5 star - the beautiful interior, the jacuzzi baths overlooking the ocean from your room, the amazing sun loungers on the beach with waiter service!
The all inclusive is great, fantastic choices, and we particularly loved the Italian resturant for a more romantic feel.
I would highly recommend and would love to visit again!
