Apple Vacations Traveller Reviews
Not impressed, The I enjoyed the pool more than the beach. The food was god awful and our floor in the hotel was disgusting. It was filthy and sandy. They never swept, only mopped the sand around with cleanser and water. Our toilet didnít work. Our patio door was broken. We only got wash cloths one day out of the entire stay. And the pillows on the beds were awful. I slept on my airplane neck pillow instead. The only good thing about this place was the pool, the scenery, the staff was friendly and of course, the free drinks.
the hotel and staff were great. No issues getting to and from by walking or Train. Beach had no issues getting a chair, but the loose seaweed was everywhere. Pool was large and clean, but too deep in most places 4.75 feet average. could not get from swim up bar with drink. Was looking forward to the teen club, but it was closed. No Arcade. grounds were beautifully maintained. Food was good at all restaurants and buffet.
June 2017 Visit - Please read before you book
This hotel was a complete let down from the ratings. you can't get anywhere without a golf cart ride or on the train that goes by. Nothing is easily accessible. The Apple Representative at the Hotel - Alex was the rudest person i ever dealt with. It is a shame that he even wears a badge representating a company like Apple. His customer service skills definitely need to be refined. Very difficult to get the room consistently cleaned with towels daily. I was very disappointed in the hotel. The pool and the beach along with the weather were absolutely the best. I would not go back to this resort, you can't get anywhere without usinga golf cart that they drive around.
Melia Caribe Tropical is an excellent resort hotel. From the beginning to the end of my vacation I received nothing but excellent service!
Everything was so nice, Staff so friendly and nice. Would absolutely recommend this place. I just had two things I wasn't happy with. Could not get washcloths and no one came to clean our room the last day. We had no clean towels. We spoke with other families when leaving, and those were the only complaints they had also. Loved the trip.
Very Nice Grounds but food/service lacking
Grounds were very nice and well keep. Unfortunately the food quality was subpar and lack of service at pools and beach was frustrating and allowed the plastic cups to become garbage. After complaining the service and pool/beach was much better but the food quality was still only average. Spend the extra for the Level or better yet go the Hard Rock (which is more) where the food and service will exceed expectations
Took to long to check in
Beautiful grounds and room. Service unsatisfactory
Our room and the general appearance of the hotel was excellent. However it was very disappointing the lack of service from the wait staff and the quality of the food at the buffets. The wait staff was unresponsive and acted like we were bothering them when we asked for a beverage. At one point my wife and I had gotten our food from the buffet and proceeded to complete our lunch and not one waiter came to see if we wanted anything including water. Also the food was cold everyday. The food in the Italian restaurant was much better however the wait staff wasn't any better.
a GREAT time!
The hotel upgraded us to a room by the beach for our 25th wedding anniversary which was so nice of them. Loved that there were golf carts to take us up to the main lobby all the time. Even if none available, it's only a 10 minute walk and it's a very pretty walk. The place is beautifully landscaped. The beach was plenty big enough to accommodate all of the guests. A great little artesian market about 1/4 mile down the beach with anything you wanted to buy for souveniers....jewelry, shirts, hats, sunglasses, pottery, paintings, rum, chocolate, cigars just to name a few. Very friendly people at the market and hotel as well. Love the excursion to Catalina Island. Scuba people were very nice and I felt very safe snorkeling while my husband dove. Meal on Catalina was fabulous! Bring extra money so you can buy the lobster to be grilled for you at the meal. Just a wonderful experience in the Dominican!
The Apple/AmStar representatives don't communicate with each other. When my wife was injured the representative arranged for a special transport to the airport but never let the representative at the hotel know. It took a day and a half to get that straitened out. Although it a rarity, you should have transportation to and from the local medical facility. Our stressful event was only compounded by having to figure out how to get to and from the those facilities.
First time at Melia in Punta Cana
The Apple rating is not accurate on the Melia. The staff lost my daughters pants that contain her medicine. They were not very helpful in finding the pants. It cost my daughter $46 to have a brew prescription filled. The food was average compared to other resorts that we have stayed at in the past. The best food overall was the lobster and steak that cost us $39 dollars each. We had to call twice to have her luggage picked up on the day we were leaving. We held the bus up 30 minutes because of this and the slow check out process. Overall, this was an average resort and needs improvements in food quality and entertainment activities.

Unbelievably Beautiful Resort
I booked the Melia Caribe Tropical after our outstanding experience with the Melia Peninsula in Varadero, Cuba. We were astounded by the beauty, size and bounty of this gorgeous venue. There was a great variety of restaurants and food and it was mostly very good to excellent. The Dominican people are so gracious and welcoming. We felt so comfortable everywhere. The beach, the beach! Clean, warm and wonderful, just steps from the fabulous free form pool, with its swim up bar. The grounds were large and spacious, with plenty to photograph and lots of naturally landscaped space to enjoy. You could walk to the restaurants, pool or beach or you could hop a train, or catch a staff driven golf cart. Whichever you chose, it was easy and pleasant to get around. We had a Junior Suite and it was just lovely; easy to make your home for a week or two. I would return to this paradise in a heart beat.
Winter get away
The resort was very nice. Very big resort. rooms were clean. sometimes there was a language barrier. The staff was very nice. Wish they had more going on at the pool, Didn't like they catered to the Jocio Group so much.
Wouldn't return - big and disorganized
We spent a week over New Year's at the Melia Caribe Tropical. The resort was very disorganized. No one was there to greet us when we checked in, there were no signs, the actual check-in process took almost 2 hours and we were put in room that were the furthest from the beach. One of the people in our party had mobility issues. The check-in packages were inconsistent (mine didn't have beach towel vouchers or a map) and no one showed us where our rooms were. Once we found our rooms, on our own, we waited 4 hours for our luggage to be delivered (after travelling for 12-13 hours, waiting 2 hours at the checkout in Canadian clothes....) On the evening of New Year's Day, the main buffet restaurant and 'tropical lobby' burned down. We were evacuated from our rooms but given no direction as to where to wait until we could return to our rooms. They juggled restaurant service around, but none were close to our rooms. Because of the fire, they also stopped sending the tram up the road that connected our room to the beach and now main restaurant. It was a 20 minute walk from the beach to our room. Our companion with the mobility challenge ended up spending much of the rest of the week in his room as he couldn't walk to the beach and hotel staff were not particularly responsive when he called for a golf cart. I would not choose to go back to such a large resort.
People were so accommodating and attentive to all my needs
Absolutely go back. I was working most of the time but they were wonderfully helpful and friendly. They worked tirelessly to make our event great. I loved the rooms very spacious. A large selection of food and drinks
Another Wonderful Vacation at the Melia!
Beautiful Jurassic Park-like resort. We have come here 2 to 3 times every year since 2007. Crystal clear water and white sand beach. Great food and adult beverages but the best part is the staff who are consistently pleasant, polite, friendly. caring, pampering, and knowledgeable folks. We'd like to especially thank Carlos Kingsley and Hector Perez - Guest Service for helping us with our room selection. German Diaz - server in the American Grill Breakfast Buffet always treats us like family and could not be nicer; our friend Jhoanny Guerrero - who keeps our room spotless and is always there whenever we need anything and who left us a beautiful towel decoration every day; Yoci Perez - Tropical Pool Bar who is always very warm and friendly and fun and who always greets us with "la familia"!
