The rooms are very outdated. The resort is too spread out. You have to walk a good distance to get anywhere or wait for a train. Pool area is excellent. Food was better then any all inclusive resort we have previously visited. We had no hot water for hours one day. The next day we had no water at all for a few hours.
Food was NEVER hot via buffet at best warm. It would be illegal to serve that way in the US. Hotel check in was a mess people cutting line, under staffed at front desk, took forever to find my reservation. Check out was the same and they charged us 1.00 each hotel exit fee, which I found out no on else from our group got charge. I blame on the hotel management for under staffing at key times, no proper training on customer care and how to meet or exceed expectations. Employees seemed to want to help but just could not execute. Others in my group experianced worse with wrong rooms from what they booked to when they walked in room. Just a hot mess.
Not impressed, The I enjoyed the pool more than the beach. The food was god awful and our floor in the hotel was disgusting. It was filthy and sandy. They never swept, only mopped the sand around with cleanser and water. Our toilet didn’t work. Our patio door was broken. We only got wash cloths one day out of the entire stay. And the pillows on the beds were awful. I slept on my airplane neck pillow instead. The only good thing about this place was the pool, the scenery, the staff was friendly and of course, the free drinks.
the hotel and staff were great. No issues getting to and from by walking or Train. Beach had no issues getting a chair, but the loose seaweed was everywhere. Pool was large and clean, but too deep in most places 4.75 feet average. could not get from swim up bar with drink. Was looking forward to the teen club, but it was closed. No Arcade. grounds were beautifully maintained. Food was good at all restaurants and buffet.

This hotel was a complete let down from the ratings. you can't get anywhere without a golf cart ride or on the train that goes by. Nothing is easily accessible. The Apple Representative at the Hotel - Alex was the rudest person i ever dealt with. It is a shame that he even wears a badge representating a company like Apple. His customer service skills definitely need to be refined. Very difficult to get the room consistently cleaned with towels daily. I was very disappointed in the hotel. The pool and the beach along with the weather were absolutely the best. I would not go back to this resort, you can't get anywhere without usinga golf cart that they drive around.
Melia Caribe Tropical is an excellent resort hotel. From the beginning to the end of my vacation I received nothing but excellent service!
Everything was so nice, Staff so friendly and nice. Would absolutely recommend this place. I just had two things I wasn't happy with. Could not get washcloths and no one came to clean our room the last day. We had no clean towels. We spoke with other families when leaving,and those were the only complaints they had also. Loved the trip.
Very Nice Grounds but food/service lacking
Grounds were very nice and well keep. Unfortunately the food quality was subpar and lack of service at pools and beach was frustrating and allowed the plastic cups to become garbage. After complaining the service and pool/beach was much better but the food quality was still only average. Spend the extra for the Level or better yet go the Hard Rock (which is more) where the food and service will exceed expectations

Beautiful grounds and room. Service unsatisfactory
Our room and the general appearance of the hotel was excellent. However it was very disappointing the lack of service from the wait staff and the quality of the food at the buffets. The wait staff was unresponsive and acted like we were bothering them when we asked for a beverage. At one point my wife and I had gotten our food from the buffet and proceeded to complete our lunch and not one waiter came to see if we wanted anything including water. Also the food was cold everyday. The food in the Italian restaurant was much better however the wait staff wasn't any better.
a GREAT time!
The hotel upgraded us to a room by the beach for our 25th wedding anniversary which was so nice of them. Loved that there were golf carts to take us up to the main lobby all the time. Even if none available, it's only a 10 minute walk and it's a very pretty walk. The place is beautifully landscaped. The beach was plenty big enough to accommodate all of the guests. A great little artesian market about 1/4 mile down the beach with anything you wanted to buy for souveniers....jewelry, shirts, hats, sunglasses, pottery, paintings, rum, chocolate, cigars just to name a few. Very friendly people at the market and hotel as well. Love the excursion to Catalina Island. Scuba people were very nice and I felt very safe snorkeling while my husband dove. Meal on Catalina was fabulous! Bring extra money so you can buy the lobster to be grilled for you at the meal. Just a wonderful experience in the Dominican!

Not what I expected - The Level
My first impression upon arrival was - based on the pictures on line and my first impression was â€śthis place is greatâ€ť.
Over all the staff are all accommodating. The room was well kept. The fridge was stocked with sodas, beer, water and juice. Coffee area also well stocked. Thereâ€™s always somewhere to get a snack in addition to room service.
The propriety is huge and Iâ€™m not sure if itâ€™s a result of the FIRE they had back in January 2018 (which was not mentioned on the web site) but things seem very confusing. Example: the Dominican restaurant doesnâ€™t serve Dominican food itâ€™s international and Italian. You think staying at a Dominican inclusive resort would represent their food..right? The faculty is under restoration and things are shifted around but you have to figure that on your own.
All major events: pick-ups / excursions are conducted in the MAIN LOBBY. Remember your main lobby otherwise youâ€™ll be confused. There are 2-3 lobbies.
There are multiple out side vendors in the main lobby and you donâ€™t know that theyâ€™re not a part of the hotel until you try to get help from the hotel staff regarding one of these vendors.
There are gulf carts to shuttle you back and forth and 4 different trains - Green / Blue / Orange / red trains.
Room: clean, however as advertised there was no premium pillow choices noted or offered.
The beach was full of seaweeds, could be the time of year - not sure but again on the site the beach is clean and beautiful. There are enough lounge chairs and cover â€śluxury lounge areasâ€ť but you have to claim it before 7AM, no joke. We were never able to get one because we were not getting up at 6-6:30 AM to get premium seats.
The included premium liquor is not exactly true. You have to pay for some top shelf drinks.
Dinner on the beach: again, it might have been the time to year (May) was far from romantic as stated by the waiter who walks around and sells this promo. The catch is you have to buy a bottle of wine. Why is wasnâ€™t romantic: it was windy so your food was cold and there was nothing special about the menu.
Shopping: for some reason the staff (thatâ€™s correct, the staff) pushed for us to go shopping in the mall infront of the hotel. Iâ€™m suspecting they get a referral fee perhaps? The price of the gift shop was very competitive and reasonable.
The staff kept telling us we look â€śDominicanâ€ť Iâ€™m still on the fence if that helped in customer services or hindered customer services?
Conclusion: what would help future vacationers - upon arrival guest should be provided with a quick breakdown of this huge property. It clearly helps if you speak Spanish. Overall I would still recommend this facility.
Keep in mind: customer service is not on a â€śNew Yorkâ€ť minute but more so on island time.
Service was horrible
I was very surprised with this resort and the service, I thought service was going to be different knowing that Melia is a well known resort with great locations all over the world. I checking in here yesterday I did not had a reservation for yesterday, I arrived a day earlier than when my reservation was but on their website they had different prices than here at the front desk, very disappointed with booking one night, it took me almost two hours at the front desk to book one night there was no customer service, the guy st the front desk did not show us anything but gave us an envelope with the key. We did not know where anything in the hotel was, had to figured out myself. Food wasnâ€™t that great how is it that this is an all inclusive resort but the steak house and the hibachi are not include. Not happy at all specially with the service. Than I had this girl following me around telling me that I would get a free dinner at the steak house for allowing her to show me the resort.
Mixed review on the hotel
The Melia Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana is a beautiful resort with great views and relatively good service. Upon check in and check out the wait times for these were very long and unreasonable. Many people waiting to check in actually complained. Our bags were dropped off at our rooms without a hitch and when leaving it was an easy call for the bell boy to bring our bags to reception. Our rooms were clean and kept well so it was a comfortable stay although most of our time was spent at the beach or pools. A few days prior to arriving I was asked for the room bed preference and I liked the fact that two separated beds were in the room as I had asked for my friend and I.
Proximity to beach: When I called in regards to making a booking, I specifically asked if the rooms were close to the beach to which I was told all the rooms are close to the beach. This is not true as although our rooms were close to reception and the dining restaurants, the walk to the beach was more than a 15 minute walk.
The food at the restaurants was good as well as the service although there was a bit of a language barrier sometimes with the waiters but that is to be expected if you are travelling in a foreign country and being served by locals. I generally enjoyed breakfast especially the large fruit selection. The all inclusive nature of the resort was also a great plus with great service at the bar and pool areas.
The beach was kept clean and absolutely stunning. My one gripe though is there are great pools but the use of the pools closed at 7. I would have expected the pools to at least have stayed open until about 10pm due to the fact that its quite dangerous to swim in the ocean at night and as it is an isolated resort its quite difficult to go anywhere else although there was nightly evening entertainment in the lobby after dinner.
One last thing to note is that Melia Caribe Hotel is a kid friendly zone but there was still room for safe adult fun like drinks at the pool bars, there is an adult only alternative on the same property called the Level. If one is looking for an adult only experience it is worth it to check out the Level.
We traveled in Mid April and the weather was great, it rained a few days in the morning but within 30 minutes around 9am the skies were clear and it was nice and warm. All in all though it was a great stay.
Upon arriving to the Melia Caribe resort the customer service was lacking. We asked to be upgraded to "The Level" because if not you have to pay for room service and have to take trains around the resort. Our request was overlooked and we were told we would hear from them. Its our last day here and still have not got a call. The food is horrible, I was sick from the lack of freshness and overall variation in the food. They only have 4 restaurants to choose from not 8. The wait for water or coffee at dinner was usually around 10-20 minutes. One day water was brought to me with a fly in it. There was construction being done on the resort and our view outside our room was a pile of bricks and a BIG building. We woke up to banging and work being done every morning. We booked an excursion and paid for two activities monkeys and zip lining and never did the zip lining. Losing out on 70 bucks. The beach was beautiful but it was a 15 minute walk or a 15 minute train ride to the beach, so this distance made it not really feel like a tropical vacation. PLEASE! use your money else where! The customer service at this resort is horrible and if you dont upgrade to the level you will be treated as second class citizens. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED.
Great stay - Thanks to Kids Club!
We just returned for Melia Caribe, it was our second time there and we had a great time, especially because of their kids club (Kid Zone). We went there when my son was 1 year old for the first time and now on our second trip he's 3 years old. We could drop him at the Kid Zone during the day without any worries and they serve the kids breakfast and lunch if needed. The facility is great, very clean and with a large team of coordinators, very friendly and well trained and they also had a packed schedule of entertainment (themed parties, arts and crafts, games, shallow Kid Zone pool with dedicated life guard, assisted climbing wall, 'outings' to the beach for games etc) for the little ones. My boy had a great time and every morning he asked us to go to school (meaning the kids club).
Would definitely recommend this resort, especially for parents with little ones looking to have great child support to enjoy the pool, beach and spa. Fantastic week, thanks to all the Kid Zone staff!
Retornamos recentemente do Melia, essa foi nossa segunda vez no hotel e recomendamos esse resort, escolhemos esse resort principalmente por causa do kids club onde pudemos deixar nosso filho (3 anos) algumas horas durante o dia.
