great hotel for budget minded
This is the third time staying at the Riu Naiboa since its remodeling . The rooms are clean and comfortable. The food has been upgraded with a good selection of different dishes. They have added a water park that both adults and children can enjoy. There is a walk to the beach down caribbean street that we enjoyed the beach is beautiful with a beach shack for lunch if you do not want to go back to the hotel . I recommend this hotel for the budget minded.
DO NOT STAY AT A 4 STAR HOTEL IN PUNTA CANA
the Worst all inclusive EVER
I cannot believe how much I hated this hotel! We had to move because I got so violently ill- I would be embarrassed to represent this hotel- the Riu next door was so a great improvement but from this experience it will be a long time before I ever consider using apple vacations again- for $2000 it was a major let down
Great service ! Recommend +++
The price of $3885.00 compared to the rating this time was not worth it. The food was acceptable but nothing changed on a daily basis. You had to wake up before 7:00 am to see the mafia looking guy to make your dinner reservation at the one restaurant. they only accepted about 25 people a night for the 7:00 sitting. I am not eating at 9:00. That was awful. The beach was dirty and horrible. The plane was horrible.
The overall trip and stay was nice. The beds were excessively hard and uncomfortable. We have stayed at other Riu resorts before and found the food selection very limited this trip compared to others. The service was excellent from all of the staff. It just seems like this resort is the economy riu of the Dominican Republic.
Our room was very nice, clean and our maid kept our frig stocked with plenty of water and drinks. The food was mediocre, a lot of the food was the same day after day. The coffee was instant coffee, if you want the better stuff you need to go to the Buda Bar . there you will find cappuccino and espresso. very hard to get dinner reservation at restaurant,, we were told we had to see the manager of the buffet at 6:45 am to book time and then we were not going to be guaranteed a table.
Fine but not great so you get what you pay for
We actually switch hotels to the RIU Macao as the room at Niaboa was really small and we were overlooking the parking lot. Also heavy sewage smell. The Macao was great!
Worst vacation ever
The hotel staff didn't listen we told them everyday that the refrigerator was not stocked they said that happens sometimes and did nothing to fix the problem they also put us over the nightclub that stays open til six am food was awful the only thing nice was the weather was sick for three day's talked to front desk almost everyday about somethings and in one ear and out the other this hotel was by no means a four star would really have to look again before traveling with Apple you should sent someone down there without telling them who you are and see how they treat you....
The staff for the most part was very willing to help us with anything. I found a cockroach in our room the 1st night, but never again. The food was very bland. We were under the impression we could go to any of the pools, restaurants, and bars within Riu and that was not so, we could only those at Naiboa. The excursions were fantastic! Loved Omar from Amstar, he was very helpful. The beach was beautiful! The shops on the way to the beach we ok on prices, but the vendors were very pushy. We called for more soda on Tuesday and were never told that the staff that stocks this was not in and we had nothing to mix the drinks with until Thursday, even tho we called numerous times. The stay was ok only due to we didn't spend much time in our room.
good for ****
apple representative was not helpful at all. couldn't get any fly information. Problem w/ beach towels, the pool service open at 8, and the staff didn't want to give towels in evening, so we can go on beach early. the potatoes always not fully cooked, meat overcooked.

Stayed her for a week on a last minute deal .Staff very friendly .Food good and plenty of choice .Room good clean but view from no to much. Pool and amenities good .Music very loud around pool had to go to beach to escape it .Beach was very good even tho took a bit of battering from hurricane . Could have done with a bit more entertainment in evening .In all not a bad holiday .
Nice Staff But!!!
We visited this property over Christmas and will never stay there again. The rooms are old and not maintained, no privacy locks while you are in the room and if you asked for something brought to your room there was no knock no warning they just opened the door and came in. Unacceptable. They hardly changed the sheets and the rooms were musty. The food was ok at best repeat repeat repeat.
The staff did the best they could and were for the most part accommodating and friendly. The owner of this "resort" should be embarrassed he has not invested in updating this facility while the sister resorts seem to be updated and clean. Also no noise control in the middle of the night, just let people make all the noise they wanted until 3 or 4 in the morning.
Nothing against the staff but don't stay there its not worth what you might think is a deal.
Are people booking the wrong destination, wrong hotel or just expecting tour operators to be honest?
I have stayed at Riu Naiboa twice and am returning in May this year. I go to this hotel because I have seen others in the area that do not appeal because of size (too big) or location (not the best area on the stretch for beach activity). Prices for holidays in this area vary from under ÂŁ900 to ÂŁ2500 in May and I can really not see that much difference in how you could get better value than Naiboa. Really what would I get from the staff that is different as they are all recruited from the local catchment area. Staff at Naiboa are as good as you get anywhere for what they are paid and what they have to do. The set up of the hotel is fine although about half a mile from the beach, some would like the walk and others would not but myself and my wife do not need to pay an extra ÂŁ500 to be a little closer to the see. Even those hotels that are on the beach may need to walk the same distance if they are at the back of a hotel that has a beach front location.
In reality the whole area is much like any other purpose built resort, a lot of big hotels next to each other with a long sandy beach with warm waters. All inclusive hotels around the would are pretty much the same for food, all adequate but some a little better than others, little to do but pool, beach and in house entertainment including unlimited drinks.
We go to Punta Cana for the sea, sun, relaxation and most of all to play golf. Our day is breakfast, stroll to the beach, sun ourseles and swim in the sea, back for a beer in the pool bar area about 11.30am, quick simple snack and picked up by our wonderful driver for transfer to Punta Blanca golf course at 12.30. We play golf back to the bar at about 6pm, few beers, dinner 7.30-8pm ish, bar, maybe entertainment and bed by 11pm... repeat next day.
We have not been on any of the trips so cannot review but these are the same for all hotels so you will not get better trips by going somewhere else.
Ok when we arried last year we did have a dirty pillow (smell discusing and stained)..It was replaced when we complained but this can hapen in any hotel. Room service (maids) was exactly the same as we have experienced in other destinations such as spain, turkey, tunisia, portugal as they all do a great job often relying on tips for additional income because their wages are so low.
If you want value for money Naiboa is great but research what you want to do first. We pay just over ÂŁ1500 each for our holiday in total including 13 rounds of golf over 14 days. This cannot be matched in Europe by a long shot.
Obviously some hotels are a little better than others and reading reviews where someone wants a 10* luxury holiday for peanuts makes me wonder about what they expect out of life. I guess they just believe tour opertaor marketing.
If you want a big hotel with lots of pools then do not go to Naiboa
If you want to be on the beach then do not go to Naiboa
If half a mile is too far to walk then do not go to Naiboa
If you want to walk to the nearest town or village and see local sights on foot then do not go to Punta Cana
Horrendous hotel please don’t waste your money!!!!
We booked this hotel for the good reviews it has had on trip advisor. I don’t know who is writing these reviews as this is possibly the worst hotel you will come across. Excrement on walls in our bathroom, toilet didn’t work, flies all over food and variety very poor. The internet is only in lobby. We complained like many others did and was moved to the Riu Bambu which was an improvement. On arrival at this hotel we started to explain we had been sent over from the Naiboa but he cut me short and said it’s ok
It happens all the time. Which says it all! The director at the Naiboa was rude and when I tried to explain how disappointed we were he cut in and said I think it’s a good hotel and wouldn’t listen to us. There was definitely no customer service ( none of the customer is always right) we were wrong according to him. I have emailed Riu direct to speak to somebody direct but have not had a response I also think TUI should remove it from there website. It’s a block off flats with a swimming pool and minimum facilities. Avoid this hotel!!!!
It was just OK
I was disappointed with this resort. I was hoping for much more.
The rooms are very dirty and outdated. Roaches, musty smelly and the towels always felt dirty. We didn’t have a screen door so we couldn’t have the door open unless we wanted to be eaten alive by bugs. Bring bug spray!
The grounds and buffet restaurant were always clean but the area around the pool could have been cleaned up a bit more. Left over limes and cigarette buds from the day before.
The pool itself was clean and we really liked the kiddie pool area.
Bar staff and restaurant staff were always very helpful and kind. Selection was good and food was fresh.
Only one a la cart restaurant which we were told was steak and Italian but we never saw a Italian menu. The beach bar was great, but with a toddler it was sometimes a trek to get there.
The beach was beautiful but agin a bit further than we anticipated.
The weather was perfect and overall we had a nice time but we wouldn’t go back to this resort.
