Was denied entry

When my wife and I landed in Punta Cana I was denied entry into the country. Which didn’t make any sense seeing as that was our third time going there. So we flew right back to Chicago. Worst honeymoon ever

Family Vacation

Our family vacation to Punta Cana and specifically RIU Bambu was tainted by the fact that our entire family got sick after eating at one of the restaurants in the property. However the food in general was fair at best. I left my vacation sick and disappointed in the quality of the food offered and served.

We recently stayed at the RIU Bambu for 7 nights. There were 4 different occasions we went to shower and there was no hot water. Supposedly it was fixed our last night around 7PM so we were unable to shower after our beach day before dinner. The next morning before check out when we showered; the water was barely warm. Having no hot water 4 days out of 7 when we wanted to shower was not appreciated. We complained at the desk with no adjustment to our bill etc. We talked to our Apple rep. and he didn't really seem to want to pursue anything on it for us either. There was construction going on and they said this was the reason for the hot water issue but guests should have been compensated for the inconvenience.

The stay at the Riu Bamboo was comfortable/safe and a lot of fun. We booked this resort specifically for it`s No SpringBreakers policy----Several days after our arrival around 300 plus Springbreakers showed up and the peaceful beach/pool was a thing of the past. Riu Bamboo does not enforce this Rule. Also--long pants a dinner --not enforced. Dinner Reservations--won`t take them We booked a Deluxe room---which was a mistake---the standard rooms are updated and have a nicer layout--we ended up moving to a standard room even though we paid for "Deluxe" Over all had a great time--

This was our 6th stay at Riu Bambu and we keep going back because of the beaches and the staff. The resort is very nice and they are making wonderful upgrades to the resort. The people are absolutely the best.

The hotel is very clean, staff very friendly people. The pool amazing, clean beaches with the ability to walk over to other hotels. Food was good, plenty of choice, I can't see that anyone would be stuck finding something they liked.

Location is perfect! Beach is outstanding! Staff is so kind and friendly! Omelette maker in the main dining area is great! My family loves him! Also our house keeper was so sweet! Fransico and Pablo at the beach kept us happy! They are great! Only negatives are the beds (too hard) and the food isn't the greatest. But, we've been here 3 times and we will go back!

It is a massive Hotel, the food quality was poor, Breakfast was O.K. lunched were terrible, hard to find anything good, much less warm. The dinners were hit & miss, the best restaurant was the Mexican. An exception was the spread they put out for New Years Eve, that was good. Our rooms were O.K. , nothing special, but at least 2 blocks from the Beach. Great Beach! Pleanty of Palm Trees & shade, lots of chase lounges. Very Good weather

HORRIBLE FOOD
ANN E.
Jan 05 2017
Food was horrible and repetative in lack of quality and taste. By third day, I was ready to leave hotel since food appeared to be prepared to ease kitchen's preparation rather than to please guests. The specialty restaurants were no better: similar food in quality. Front desk and maintenance were lackadaisical; noone came to repair room phones which were not functionable during entire vacations even after several requests to front desk; same for leak in the ceiling on last night of stay. Hotel advertised as free Wi-Fi in lobby area. Found out that only two can log on per room even though we paid for 4 people in room. Beach was the best part of the hotel. Nevertheless, I will NOT ReTURN due to the poor quality of the food and lack to respond to issues raised by guests. Lastly, the waiters were less than responseive;they almost appeared as if they did not want to serve you. For instance, they clean the dinning table for you and leave without placing silverware, plates or drinks. On a few ocassions I had to get up and chase a waiter to provide me with a glass of wine, asking him whether wine was served with the meals(japanese restaurant). Overall experience was less than memorable which leads me to conclude that an all inclusive package is not the way to go. Food and service throughout your vacation makes or breaks your enjoyment. I must say this vacation was A BAD ONE WHICH I WILL NOT REPEAT!

I was told by an apple representative that the small size luggage could be carried on and was free. I was charged $90 down and another $90 back. We didn't want to check baggage and have to wait for our luggage so we used the small free size and were still charged. I have those receipts and would like to be reimbursed. The hotel was ok clean wise. The rooms smelled very moldy. Our fan fell while spinning. You can tell they recaulk over gross caulk and repaint over mold. I understand that this is probable part of the climate and likely hard to avoid. I believe about half the stall liked vacationers and half did not. They seemed annoyed with us and we're pretty easy. Our maid was awesome. Front desk was very helpful. The onsite Apple guy Reggie was very helpful. Our excursion was amazing. The Riu Bambu charged $32 US dollars for a $8 bottle of suncreen and their gift shop items were all way way over priced. I had a massage and it was same price as the US and it was awesome. Riu bambu had wifi and that was nice. Frontier flight was a direct flight so that was awesome.

' TO BE PICKY OR NOT TO BE PICKY"

Good afternoon ! We ( friends of over 25 years, ages 59 and 66 ) arrived home from the DR on Dec 04th .our wish list when we booked was to have : a room close to the beach, pool and restaurants and on the ground floor, Nice beach, good food,over-all clean place and some rest. All on the list was met ! Our room was 2105, a corner room, smallish but with ample storage. A few items with the room were : key cards did not work initially ( fixed), broken hair dryer ( replaced promptly) , only 1 /3 of the room outlets held plugs tightly in place. On the positive side, the fan and A/C worked great ! There are no wash cloths here, so bring some from home if this is important to you. Our room was cleaned daily and on 2 occasions, towel art was made with the soiled towels. The fridge was well stocked with soda, beer and water. The liquor dispenser was never re-filled and that was of no concern to us. A bit now about the restaurants : You can visit the A La Carte's all you want. However, they are not all open every night. There seems to be a rotation with them. Out of the 5 nights we ate at them, we DID NOT WAIT ONCE to get in. These restaurants are a mix of self serve and ordered items and the service varies from place to place. For example, there are many staff working in the gourmet restaurant, but very slow service and most of the items on the menu are served cold anyway.....so what took so long ? In general everywhere, the food was only warm with the exception of the hot potato wedges served in a basket at the Steakhouse...they were delicious and hot !! The Colonial is the main Buffet. It is large and bright inside, but the noise level is incredible, as there is nothing to absorb sound. there are 2 outdoor eating areas, quieter and we really did not see many bugs or birds out here. We only ate breakfast here and the food choices and quality were fine. Mamajuana's is the beach/pool restaurant and we ate there daily at lunch and left quite satisfied each time ! A bit about the BEACH : soft white sand, very walkable for a long way in each direction, wavy water, but with no strong under current the week we were there, lots of chairs and shade if wanted, some sea weed, but hey....it is on the Atlantic Ocean !! Be aware, there are topless sun bathers, cigar smokers, empty cups, straws. Garbage cans located at the walkways and were often over-flowing. There are government certified sales people all over the place on the beach...a simple NO , and they were on their was. We did obviously note that the vendors were targeting the younger guests. A BIT ABOUT THE WASHROOMS : from the lobby to the bars to the beach, all the washrooms we encountered were very clean and well supplied....GOOD JOB and appreciated ! A BIT ABOUT ENTERTAINMENT : There was a lot happeneing entertainment wise throughout the day, but we were there for the beach and quiet time. Families could enjoy RIULAND play area and a show in the evening geared towards the children. We actually watched this one evening and it was cute and appreciated by the parents. We found not much to do in the evenings after dinner but to sit and drink....that is not us, so we walked around some. A piano bar would have been nice. The one adult show we watched was of poor quality....we did not take in another. A BIT ABOUT THE LAY OUT: RIU Bambu is located in a series of several RIU properties. We had exchange privilidges at the RIu Naioba only, but did not venture over here. There was a water park close by as well, but we did not visit there either....it did look fun though. All the resorts are connected by walkways and the entire property is gated. The staff say it is safe at night. Of all the properties we walked through, the Bambu is the most compact with the least about of walking to get to things. The property is very pretty and well cared for....there are also resident cats who come out to play at night. There are shops located between some of the resorts....we found them to be shamefully over priced for dollar store quality items ! A BIT ABOUT BEACH MASSAGE : over-all a good experience with ladies who know what they are doing, but when the massage was over, the sales pitch began. The " rep" doing the pitching was speaking too fast, not making any sense and was all over the place with her prices. I have to say this spoiled the whole ambiance of the massage and we just got out of there fast !! Had a good laugh over it too ! A BIT ABOUT COUPONS : If you are a SUNWING CLIENT, you can ask for a coupon book from the front desk. No ask, NO get....nobody is forth coming with anything here. We attempted to use these coupons, but there is always a " catch", so not worth it and rather laughable ! A BIT ABOUT SERVICE : We are not high maintence people and really had no great wishes or demands from any staff. That being said, we did not feel we got great or above average service from anyone. Like the rest of the 2017 world, the staff were on their phones a lot, talking and laughing amongst themselves,....We did not feel they were that friendly !! A BIT ABOUT THE CASINO : There was a small casino located on the Riu Macao property. there was a shuttle that took us back and forth. Our Sunwing rep did not know about this shuttle until we told him ! Anyway, the casino is small with mirrors on the wall to make it look bigger ! The staff there are too plentiful and sort of hover....it was very uncomfortable and one visit was plenty ! In closing, we got out of this vacation what we wanted, so left quite satisfied. Feel free to ask any questions and Than ks for this opportunity !

Average, not worth the cost

Couple both young 22 Arrived 30th Nov for 11 days. Weather brilliant 28 every day, very relaxing as there isn't much to do apart from activities, sunbathing or going to the beach. We found out there was a casino and club but due to it being in another RIU down the road we didn't want to walk late at night alone. Staff didn't tell us there was a bus until our last night which was disappointing. Staff pleasant yet on arrival told by Tui rep the staff expect tips due to the low wage. We always tip and this wasn't a problem however we didn't find we received any more of a service for doing so and after spending close to $100 on tips we stopped this after day 7. Staff hard working some make effort but overall not the best service, not many smiles. Bar staff extremely rude to us, found they much preferred locals and prioritised them over other customers, which became annoying. In restaurant the locals could walk in whenever yet others had to wait. They would be in swimwear and at one time stood on the tables shouting, as we ate in the steak restaurant. Room excellent, huge bed always clean and mini bar restocked every other day. However cleaners did come into our room on 3 occasions while sleeping, and after asking them to come back later due to being woken up and while getting out the shower. Food- lots of variety yet cold or just about warm. Not displayed best either, flys and wasps around. Lots of sea food on offer. Most the week we had rice and beans, chips and pizza. And we aren't that fussy. On 2 occasions staff lady in restaurant was seen downing red wine in the corner and on her knees to where I was sat hiding behind the table. Entertainment can't be faulted the team make great effort to get customers involved and have a great time. Throughout the day and night. We don't have kids but the RIU land was great in the evening. Entertainer Redbull was excellent throughout day at pool doing activities. Hotel very modern and clean, which you would expect from a 5 star hotel. During our stay the hotel was reviewed by RIU inspection staff and we was giving questionnaire on this day there was more staff and a much improved service including new forks. Also was told by staff prior this was happening and to give "good" marks. Did saona island trip which was the highlight. We was ready to come home by day 8 due to the food and being hungry. Would we come back to punta Cana? Not in a rush possibly in a few years but I wouldn't stay here again for the price we paid.

Just returned today six years after our first trip here.

We first came to this hotel six years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it,was really looking forward to returning. Well where do i start,i understand that people who haven't yet gone to this hotel on their holidays are desperate not to hear bad reviews. The problem with this Hotel it looks good but it is all show, The Room looked very nice 1416 not far from the main building,on first arrival we noticed the Flat Screen television had a huge crack in it,you don't go on holiday to watch TV but sometimes whilst waiting to go out half an hour is quite nice. The wall light switch didn't work, but whenever you switched it on the television came on. Toilet leaked,we told the reception nothing was done, finally it broke completely (unable to flush)it was fixed eventually. Air conditioning was set to 28 it couldn't be changed, the room was stiflingly hot, reception informed nothing done. Wifi in room even though we didn't pay for it which was excellent over 15 meg,Free Wifi throughout hotel was excellent. Restaurants awful, cold bland food, catering for the Americans and Germans, who just pile their food high and usually leave the majority on their plates. Pools very nice, beds easy to get. Drinks fine, good beer and all the usual spirits, cocktails a bit boring and bland. Entertainment pathetic, sorry but that is the only word i can think of,why can't they have a piano bar,or even a bar with piped music. The beach is still as good as i remember really beautiful. TUI Reps are a disgrace,we knew our flight was delayed, she lied to our face telling us we had to go to the airport on the bus as arranged as the flight was on time,we stayed 9 hours in Punta Carna Airport,$3 for a water,$8 for a bottle of beer. I have never been on holiday where i was looking forward to coming home,i am genuinely sad to say.

Great first time in DR

It's been over a year since I visited, so I'll be brief. My friend and I (two females in our mid-twenties) visited this resort in May of 2016 for a week and we had a great time. This was my first time in the DR as I've mostly been to AI's in Cuba and Mexico and I would definitely return to the Riu Bambu and Punta Cana. The food was great - always fresh and lots of varieties to choose from. The beach was beautiful - soft white sand and not rocky or seaweed-covered. We never struggled to find chairs at the beach nor the pool. The main pool was usually pretty lively, especially around the bar. The entertainment team was great and there always seemed to be something going on throughout the day and into the evening/night. No complaints about our room - the beds were comfortable and there was a mini fridge as well as alcohol dispensers. The club on the grounds (shared with other Rius) was always busy and we had a great time when we went. All in all, I would definitely return and would recommend this resort to my friends and family.

Great solid hotel with pretty grounds and beach, good food, and great service!

This is a grand, modern property with nice amenities, several gigantic pools, a zillion bars, lots going on, really clean updated rooms, lots of greenspace and a warmhearted, dedicated staff that seem to be willing to do just about anything for you! The beach was clean and well maintained, and they had surprisingly good nightly entertainment. Sure every place has its screw-ups, but this place had very few of them and they were minor in nature (my room had a broken safe, and a toilet that required 2 or 3 flushes to do the job. I didn't even complain about either.) The a-la-carte restaurants were all very good. All this and the price was right.
