Nice vacation; good pool, great weather and great drinks
JUDITH B.
Apr 25 2019
We had a nice stay. The check-in and out process was quick and efficient. The room was spacious but bed was HARD. Daily maid service was very good. Everything was clean except the drinking glasses in the room. I do wish the hotel would switch to disposables. I did not see clean glasses on the maid's cart, so have to assume they just rinsed them out, if they did that. The restaurants were just okay. Buffet food is buffet food. The made to order omelets were fantastics. Drinks were fine. We did go to the no reservation required steak house and were admonished because we did not have reservations. I had the ribeye steak medium rare and it came out well done. A couple nights later we tried the steak house again. This time my medium rare ribeye came out rare. No consistency at all. The fruits and vegetables were always the best part of the meal. Wait staff was always attentive. The pool was great. The pool area needed many more lounge chairs. They were all reserved already by 930am. Pool closed by 7 for chemicals. It would be nice if the "Surfin" bar pool was "adults only". There were so many small kids using the long table there as a diving board/dock. the beach was beautiful but needed more umbrellas. Pool games and night time entertainment was just that, very entertaining. We laughed a lot. The drinks were delicious. Best mojitos ever. My lens fell out of my glasses, so I asked the main desk staff to ask maintenance for a small screwdriver. The desk agent just said they would not have one, did not even ask. Doesnt every maintenance dept have various size drivers? Our AmStar rep at the hotel was very nice, informative and helpful. Our transfer back to airport was right on time and efficient. Thank you very much. It was a nice vacation. I would go back.

Simply amazing

I have always liked the RIU hotels. This one was very nice but to large for my taste. We are seniors and we logged 10000 steps by noon just walking from the room to activities and food areas. Our room was almost as far from the food as possible. The food was ok, could use some seasonings.

Really didn't like having to leave the hotel at 9:30am for a 1:30 flight. The drive there was no more than maybe30 minutes. I find this has been the norm when booking an Apple vacation.

This is a nice resort. The rooms were nice, the food was good but I don't know that this would be the resort I would return to. Our room, though nice, was on the small side. Our outlets didn't work. Maintenance came, but they were still iffy during the whole stay. (We heard this same complaint from everyone we talked to). The pools and beach were real nice. The food was good, but there wasn't a lot of choice in term of dinner options. The entertainment staff was real nice, but there was not a lot of activities going on. Kudos to the resort for their earth friendliness. I love that the cups were recyclable and that they didn't hand out lots of extra toiletries in plastic bottles.

I was unhappy with my room! Paint from ceiling chipping and items in room was broken. I called to move to better room and they would not accommodate me. I never want to stay there again. Staff was friendly but my room was horrible which made for a bad stay. For 5 star rating the bed should have been better and the room should not have smelled like mildew.

If I have to find one negative, it would be that the pillows need to be replaced or provide more than two flat ones.

My husband and I recently stayed 5 nights at the Riu Bambu. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The pool and beach area were also beautiful. We had a fun evening at the Riu neon pool party. We enjoyed the water park also, small but a nice change of pace. There was a significant language barrier with the front desk, bartenders, and restaurant wait staff. Being an international destination we were surprised how much of a difficulty this was. I had to call the front desk late one night due to the huge fight occurring in the room next to us, and the person was unable to understand any English. Thank goodness for the Google translator. We were disappointed in the bar selection. They didn’t have much if any drink mix beyond the over sweet slush mix in the Bunn frozen drink machines. The food at the buffets made us uneasy as it was not kept at a proper temperature, most was lukewarm at best.

I loved the Riu Bambu! It was beautiful, there was such attention to detail with the decor and the maid service was outstanding. Every day there were fresh flowers and animal sculptures made of sheets and towels to decorate my room--what a lovely touch! The service was outstanding across the board. All of the employees were kind and welcoming and helpful. The food was awesome! Bar service was excellent. I never felt pressured to leave tips but always wanted to because of the amazing service. Pools and beaches were beautiful. There was always something to do with the entertainment options. Overall, I absolutely LOVED my stay here and would recommend to anyone!

Everything about the resort was amazing! Everyone was very pleasant and always had a smile on their face. We traveled with my father who is in a wheelchair and the resort was very accessible for him. Food choices were nice and very good! We didn't go away from any of the restaurants hungry, that's for sure. Nightly entertainment was very good! Definitely worth getting there early to get a good seat! There were plenty of beach and pool lounges too which isn't always the case at some resorts. Will definitely recommend to family and friends!

We spent Feb. 10-17 at Riu Bambu and were delighted with our stay. The resort was beautiful and had many gathering places. Our rooms were clean and the air conditioning worked great. All the buffet meals we had were excellent. Great variety of choices. The fish every day was outstanding. We especially liked that there was a smaller, quieter buffet next to the smaller swimming pool. We never had any issues getting pool chairs. The beach was the most beautiful onje we have had on our 10 all inclusive vacations. The resort was maintained and cleaned consistently. The Asian Buffet was outstanding - had Peking Duck! The other ala carte restaurants we tried were sadly lacking in service and food quality. The steak house used reservations and we had to wait almost an hour for our food after being seated. The steaks were not up to the standard we have had at other resorts. The Kulinarium used a beeper system, and we had to wait over an hour to get a table, and once again, we were disappointed in the food quality/quantity. As stated before, we enjoyed all the buffet meals immensely, and partook of them the rest of the week. We did visit the Asian buffet a second time, as it was so good. I enjoyed the liquor dispenser in our room! Overall, we greatly enjoyed our week at the Riu Bambu, and would not hesitate to return there!

We booked this trip at short notice with tui. It was for my husbands birthday. It started okay till we arrived at the airport in Punta Cana,we were a meet by a man dressed in a tui uniform who took our cases and took them to the coach ,then demanded a tip !!was very rude when we didn’t have money to give.got very verbal. Our transfer took about 45 minutes due to dropping off at 4 hotels We were staying at a Rui,we have stayed in quite a few before ,we arrived at hotel bambu, looked lovely from outside, but appearances aren’t everything We didn’t receive a welcome drink, after a long flight would have been a welcome appearance. We checked in and a gentleman gave us a map and took us to a sign and said you are in block 10 it’s that way .the hotel is massive!!!!we found our room finally. The room was lovely The only staff we found to be friendly were the cleaners ,they decorated our room on husbands birthday ,and she was always friendly and said hello. The steakhouse restaurant was a total joke, you have to book .i booked for husbands birthday and asked for a cake . On the day we went down and were seated ,I didn’t know you could kill a ribeye steak ,it was terrible .the lady who showed us to table went along all tables saying is it ur birthday,it was written on the ticket I gave for my booking ,she then brought out a. Cake and they sang happy birthday, took the cake away so we waited thinking we would get a piece of cake......no chance!!!!!!the cake went to 3 other tables and was left on the last one .....was gutted ,spoilt day. The hotel is geared up for the younger people, and if your older the entertainment team ignore you .on one occasion one of the team came and started talking to us ,he stood eyeing up the young girls and kept losing wat he was talking to us about.i did say why don’t u just go and chat her up instead of making an idiot of ur self ,it was embassing. Pool parties were the Baine of my life,3 times a week ,behind our room ....very loud .when I complained I was ignored . One of the reps Judy was lovely helpful. She helped us with pick up details for departure.they do not put up boards for departure pickups, they send a text ,I didn’t have phone on due to how much it costs ,when this was mentioned at the welcome meeting with a different rep ,we didn’t get an answer and just laughed ,the welcome meeting was just one big sales pitch. We have stayed in Rui s before and can actually say was disgusted by this hotel and didn’t enjoy my stay. Will not be staying in another one after this experience. It was such a shame as Punta Cana is beautiful. Sorry about the rant , but really did spoil our holiday

ARRIVAL: really prompt from the airport. We got our room keys, everyone had someone assist them with their luggage, and off we went to our rooms. We walked into the room& it was mediocre (I can deal with that) BUT they had shoved two bed together-we had called sunwing prior to request just one bed. We went back to the front desk, Very politely we told them that we were a couple and we had made sure to notify prior. Without any hesitation they apologized & told us we have been upgraded to the deluxe room. Excellent customer service! GROUNDS: easily the best kept/cleanest resort i've ever been to, Seaweed was no issue at all FOOD: great. The only thing that I can say is the whole "7 restaurants" is slightly misleading. All of them are buffet style except for the steakhouse & kulinarium. the food at the others are all basically the same. Steakhouse is AMAZING, kulinarium-food was good but the service was too slow DRINKS: Delicious drinks. the lobby bar is incredible, the service in the evening is the best ENTERTAINMENT: The parties they host are outstanding! It was like being at a nightclub! if you want a clean beach, great customer service, tasty food & you like to have a mixture of great partying and relaxation, you've found the spot. In regards to the 'rude staff' im shocked bc I never experienced that. I think that being pleasant, patient & polite serves you best. These people work tirelessly each day. They don't need someone giving them a hard time for insignificant things.

Not the greatest but OK!

We stayed for 2 weeks at this hotel with friends having returned to the UK yesterday - here's the good, bad & ugly long report Entertainment (not to be confused with pool parties!) The shows are late on an evening and rank amongst the worst I have seen ever. . . . . all lipsyncing & same dancing everynight.. . . yes I get that they are supposed to be family friendlly but young girls showing their almost completely bare backsides & suggestiive writhing & at times males pretending to strip is not what I consider to be family entertainment but hey maybe it's a cultural thing although I'm not certain who with! I do know I have been to other hotels where the entertainment has been fabulous and have still managed to exhibit amazing latin dancing with skimpy clothing without sexual connotation. I can't comment on children's entertainment during the day but entertainment for adults was repetitive and seemed to cater for those coming in for short stays. Not a problem for me as we don't tend to get involved in this but may be something you might want to consider. Entertainment Staff On the whole I saw a lot of young entertainment staff working their socks off day in day out but a few concerns and observations to remark upon. Like others in their reviews I was perturbed to see several of the young male staff flock around female guests who were very often under the influence of drink. At one of the pool parties one staff was actually groping the bottom of a young girl and more whilst her unsuspecting boyfriend was stood not far away and going backwards and forwards to the bar. Totally unacceptable. Another day I saw AJ (team leader?) making ugly faces behind a couple who had walked past him by the pool and other staff laughing at him. You are employed to make guests happy not rip the life out of them. Sad but instances like these tarnish the other hard working members of the team Pool Parties Fabulous and open to all adults - great mix & great fun. Apart from the one instance above, the entertainment staff were brilliant at these events - goodness they have stamina. But I want to mention the guys that work to keep everyone safe there as well - walking around and stopping people standing on the tops of ledges, making sure that only the RIU guests are there (we saw some people being asked to leave because they weren't bonafide guests) - hats off to them for doing a fabulous job. Also the staff keeping the toilets clean and in working order - amazing work so a huge thank you those as well. Rooms We were lucky to be in a quiet villa area. The rooms were comfy - bed hard which was great for my husband but no so for me. Oodles of hot water & great water pressure. Electrical sockets were a bit rubbish - not all worked but we did manage - I have a CPAP machine so it was essential I had a socket that worked - you may wish to bring an extension lead if you have the same issue Housekeeping Rosina was fabulous and so friendly. She kept everything spotless. We had nothing going missing as others have reported and we did leave things out as well. In fact the hotel was pretty much spotless most of the time. I never had a problem with lack of hot water, soap or paper in the toilets, spillages were quickly dealt with, windows were clean, hand soap dotted everywhere - brilliant stuff Bar Staff Yes there a few that weren't so friendly & got the drinks mixed up but heck they have a hard job serving seemingly thousands. On the whole they were very hardworking and ameniable particularly the small bar on the beach. Restaurants & Food Excellent food for the most (exception being Sports Bar - that is not food and very likely to give you a bad tummy). We enjoyed all the restaurants and in particular the Steakhouse & Kulinarium. A huge thank you for the staff at the Kulinarium for arranging a birthday celebration for our friend - you were superb! Smoking Why do you let people smoke in the pools? Why do people want to smoke in the pools? It's a rather gross thing to do and even more so when there are kids swimming about. Please consider smoking areas - it was hard to find seats away from people smoking all over the hotel. Beach Beautiful beach and well maintained. the only gripe was not enough fixed shade for those that don't want to bake & burn in the sun. Moving your bed every 10 mins to keep in the shade isn't relaxing at all All in all however we had a great time. Would we go back - no - but that's because there are so many other places to visit that tick more of our boxes but we met many people that loved the place. Different things please different people

I would not recommend this hotel. I would consider myself as very flexible, I am one of six kids so I can tolerate a lot. This stay, challenged me. I found some of the staff to be very rude, of coarse not all. We did have some very good experiences, especially in the main restaurant, the Colonial. However, we were able to get reservations for the steakhouse after having to wait in line for almost an hour, and had the worst restaurant experience. The staff were so so so rude, we ended up leaving before our meal was served. Just some general comments, the kids club had very few activities for the kids. The shows did not start until 10-10:30 pm, there was no place other than the main restaurant to grab a cup of coffee in the morning. I have stayed in many all inclusive all over the world and this one was by far the worst. It’s actually the first time writing a review, but I really felt like I needed to let you know.

Best resort I have stayed at so far!

Loved this resort, it was very clean, and the service was amazing. I have no complaints at all. We left moderate tips for the maid throughout the stay and our room was always immaculate, and we had tons of water every day, there was no issue with acquiring bottled water at all, it was everywhere. Plus there were self serve ice, drinks and water machines in several areas of the property. The air conditioning in the room was almost too efficient and we had to ask for blankets, which came within 15 minutes of our call. In fact anything we asked for was provided within half an hour to our room. The staff were lovely, professional and respectful. The gardens were immaculate and several pools to make use of. Plenty of sun loungers, no problems finding a spot. Beach is on the Atlantic Ocean, so could be a bit wild and some seaweed around, but nevertheless, shallow waters, swimmable, and tons of sand and shady palm trees. The food was by far the best I have ever had at any resort. I felt it was cooked more freshly, and they did accommodate western tastes very well. Much less of the slightly questionable stews etc that we have come across at other places. There was no shortage of kid pleasers like fries, pizza and pasta. Tons and tons of fresh salad and fruit and delicious cheese and crackers. There was a carvery every day and at breakfast the bacon and eggs was amazing! There was a good mix of all ages, and despite the fact that our room was right beside the pool, once the door was closed, you couldn't hear any outside noise. The weather was HOT, endless sunshine, and the week went by in a flash. Usually I am eager to get home after 5 days but this time, I was sad to come home. Really enjoyed it and I would definitely stay there again.
