Scuba Divers Dont Use this Hotel
Having stayed at this hotel many times we were very disappointed on our last visit in April/May 2018. We were repeat guests mainly because there was an excellent Dive Shop, Marine Life Divers, which the owner has now seen fit to get rid of and then posts a notice in reception implying their dive insurance is dubious (which it is NOT). This left a very bad taste in our mouths. In addition the place is beginning to look run down and the atmosphere is not as welcoming as it used to be. The food is very boring and to my mind the owners buy the cheapest ingredients they can - consequently the all inclusive rates are very expensive for what you get.
If there were 6 stars you guys would definitely get it
I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my h heart to everyone at Samsara. This resort was one of a kind just like every single employee there and exceeded my expectations. My best friend and I loved every single second of it and even though we went for 10 days it wasn’t long enough. We will definitely be back soon enough and next time we’ll be there longer. Not only is the resort beautiful, but it was very clean and well taken care of always. The service was amazing and trustworthy and everyone always had a smile on their face. They took care of anything that we needed and made sure our stay was amazing as possible, which it was. I want to shout out, peter, omar, junior, RandyLee and Owayne for making our time absolutely amazing. I recommend this resort to every person out there. You will not be disappointed, I promise!
Great HAM Radio Operating Site
Spent the first week in May at Samsara Cliffs and have to say I was delighted from beginning to end.
First off, this wasn't the average vacation, this was a HAM Radio Dx Vacation, and it was my first one. I am a licensed operator in Canada, and obtained authorization through the Jamaican Government to operate in Jamaica.
Having been to Jamaica before, I have done the tourist traps, the beaches, the falls, the ganja tours, etc, and have always found Jamaica to be very busy and active. For my vacation I was looking for something a little more out of the way, smaller and quieter. Samsara was IT.
I rented Pillar Hut T3 and it was awesome, for what I needed to do. Before arriving at Samsara I phoned ahead to discuss my plans, and to make sure I would be able to set up antennas and radios to operate. The staff was very accommodating, and ensured me it would be no problem.
I arrived at Samsara a little later than normal, but the staff was very attentive and welcoming. Peter was great, I had a lot of equipment and bags, but he was right on point with a Trolley to haul my bags to the hut. Can't remember the hostess name, but she accompanied me to my room and explained everything to me, regarding the area, dining options and times in the area, etc. There was a little welcome gift for me, which I thought was really nice (some rum and coffee).
It was a little after dark, but I set to work getting antennas up and my station on the air. Next morning, I was up quite early watching the boats head out to catch some fish, a boat stopped and invited me along, I declined, but I regretted it after. It would have been a great time, so if you get the opportunity, jump in the boat and go fishing with the locals.
Breakfast doesn't start until 8am. This is a little late for what I am used to, I'm up at 5am most days, so I just made sure to get some fresh fruit and keep in my hut, as well as coffee filters for my room so I had coffee in the morning. The breakfast buffet is awesome, fresh eggs cooked to order was amazing, the fish fritters were great, fresh muffins and fruit, and great service from the dining staff and cooks. I Have no complaints about the food or the staff at all. Shout out to my boy Maurice, and the ladies in the dining room.
Entertainment in the evenings is only 2 nights a week, and only for a couple hours each night. The overtakers was the name of the band, and I loved them immensely. I am a big supporter of local music and business so I tossed a few dollars in their guitar case over the course of the evening and they ended up giving me a couple of their CD's. I don't own a CD player, but the gesture was greatly appreciated, and seriously you've got to hear them, they are really really good.
Bar closes about 10 each night, but there are bars just outside the Samsara Front Doors that are safe and welcoming as well.
I never got in the pool the entire week I was there, but it was a nice pool, clean and kept nice and tidy. I did swim off the cliffs, and it was cool to swim in the ocean and have ladders or steps in the rocks every 25 feet or so to get out, Gardens were awesome throughout the property, gardener got me a couple coconuts to drink from.
Ciao Jamaica accross the street has great food. And you must try their Pizza... I don't even like pizza much and I ordered from there twice and went to eat in there once. The Jerk Chicken Pizza and the Pepperoni are definite must try, And although I was expecting much for a Steak in Jamaica, it delivered. Flavours were amazing and everything was fresh. again, impressed.
House Keeping staff were good. Came daily and made up the room, left fresh towels, turned down the bed at night. Again great service.
Bar prices were a little expensive, but if you choose the all inclusive option you won't have that problem. I bought some red stripe and put in my fridge, and some rum, but still visited the bar several times a day to chat with O-Wayne and enjoy some down time from the radios.
Souvenir shop is great. The owner is from India and his prices are great. I bought all my souvenirs there, not need going anywhere else to shop, he has it all.
What else can I say,,, the place met my expectations, I was thoroughly pleased with Samsara and I definitely will go back. If you're looking for a 5 star hoity toity resort, then this place is probably not the place for you. If you're looking for a real jamaican experience, away from the crowds of people and noise, away from the beach and maddness, then Samsara is your spot. Don't mind the somewhat dated decor, you're not going to spend much time in your room anyway.
DON'T MISS THE SUNSETS,,,, Spectacular
Thanks to Nestor, Melissa, Maurice, O-Wayne, Peter and Omar. You guys made my week an awesome one. Can't wait to come back for another week maybe next year.
Is there 10 stars?
Had the most amazing experience at Samasara for 10 days with my best friend. Had a cute little cottage with a hammock on our porch in a beautiful garden view setting. The cliffs were a great feature here. We cliff jumped quite often & snorkeled along the cliffs. Everything was kept very clean & organized while we were there. The staff did an exceptional job with making our trip. Peter is a such a sweetheart, he would walk us across the street everyday. Omar can make anyone smile, he would shuttle us to and from the beach everyday. Owayne & RandyLee were great to talk to at the bar as well. Zain, Jounior & the rest of the cooking crew & staff had excellent customer service and bonded very well. The 2 brothers who run Samasara are very helpful & sweet! We will FOR SURE be back. Can’t wait for our next experience in Jamaica. Thank you for everything & I HIGHLY recommend everyone go check out Samasara Cliff resort you will not be disappointed!
We were a group of four adults plus our 14 months old baby. At first glance, I got a little scared of what kind of a week we would have but was soon convinced it would be perfect.
Restaurant : The food choice was limited, but truly awesome. Everything on the menu was nicely cooked and results were mouth watering. We are experienced travelers, love seeing/tasting local foods and have a thing for Jamaica so it was perfect for us. They had a high chair for the baby and the entire serving staff were MIND-BLOWINGLY-SWEET to the baby. It felt so comforting to know we weren’t bothering them even when he was a little sulky with 40 degrees fever. They kept high-fiving him, playing peekaboo and even picking him up, just to make him a smile a bit. A five star service from Maurice and Sharniela. (Maurice, you’ll make the best dad Jamaica’s ever seen!) ;)
Only hiccup : restaurant opens only at 7pm! So if travelling with baby or young children, prepare a couple of pouches or snacks to make them wait till then. ;)
Rooms : The rooms are Caribbean-style decorated and could use a slight refreshing but are very clean! (Which is pretty much all we care for) The sheets were changed daily and air conditioning worked perfectly.
Cliffs : The absence of a beach, in my opinion, was unnoticed. The ocean is accessible and warm. They have beach chairs and beds around one of the pools for shade. Swimming with the baby was however limited to pool only since feet don’t touch the bottom of the ocean... which was fine! And if ever you’re a beach person, you can take the free shuttle around 10 am and comes back at 4 pm. It’s also only 5$ US for a cab. Cliffs are our place in Negril. My parents have been over 25-30 times and myself have been around 6-7, and our heart is here. The vibe is low-key, relaxing and closer to Jamaican culture than anywhere else.
Expeditions : Here I must say... GET OUT OF THE HOTEL!!!! Jamaica is one of the most (if not THE most) beautiful islands in the Caribbean and must be seen. If your unsure because of safety purposes, hire our friend Junior, directly from hotel. He was soooo nice to us, and his first goal is to keep you safe at all times. We went to the Appleton Estate (with baby) and had an amazing time. We had rented and driven cars ourselves in Jamaica before but it’s ao much easier and safer with him. He even repaired my flat-tired-stroller before we actually spoke of hiring him for the tour and never asked a penny for it!!!!!! Truly a gem.
Overall rating : We had a beautiful time, even though the baby was sick at first. The staff inside and out the hotel made allllll the difference. The owner/manager told us off because we were flying a small drone in front of his house, although all my husband wanted to do was a great video of the coast (cliffs)... which made us feel bad and uncomfortable... but apart from that, I must say eveything and everyone were absolutely perfect.
P.S. Wifi is acceptable for pretty much everything we do daily (post pics on Facebook, emailing, etc)
Thanks everyone. One love.
