Not all inclusive resort & Bad service
I took my mother here to celebrate her 70th birthday. Holiday Inn resort made it a horrible experience. At check in the guest service rep was rude to my entire group of 10 people. She rolled here eyes, gave snippy remarks such as "like I said your room will not be ready till 3pm so go do something!" The lobby bartender lady was rude. I asked for a drink that included rum she asked me did I want rum in it I replied but of course. She slammed the drink on the corner the drink was poorly made you can clearly see the rum in the frozen drink. To make this more weird she demanded a tip. While waiting for our rooms we wait on the Amistar rep to tour us and tell us when our departure time will be for the shuttle. She never toured us, told us to come back the day before because she does not know when the shuttle would come to get us on the day of departure. We kept the do not disturb hanger on our door. To only come back to our room with the housekeeper inside cleaning. I explained we did not need service she told us well I am going to finish up here. Then stood by the door waiting for a tip! Finally my friends and I wanted to part take in the water sport paddle boating. Of course we did need help a little bit the life guard came to help. All is well until things was not going his way and he yelled at my friend and told her "GET THE FUCK OUT THE BOAT!" then flipped her foot out of the boat. To print off your boarding passes it cost 15.00 for 10 mins on the pc to print. Finally, not all the restaurants are all inclusive some is at a cost this is in addition to what you have already paid. The one restaurant Sea breeze was nice yet it was up charge (another additional fee) if you wanted steak. Overall I will not go back not all inclusive the staff was so rude on top demanded tips. It was a good trip to Jamaica if you just do not deal with none of the staff there or eat there. Just do not go to this one at all.
Never Stay there again
Our room was to be a Junior Suite. It was very small, couldn't move in the bathroom and no bathtub. No room service like I was promised. Elevator didn't work half the time, and construction on our floor the entire time. If we hadn't been out on excursions most of our trip, it would have been a disaster. Very disappointed in the hotel. Up charges for everything!
My family and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree for 10 days. We really enjoyed this property. It is a little dated and could use a remodel but is very clean and the views are amazing. We found the staff to be very helpful. We enjoyed the a la carte restaurants and the buffet. Our apple representative at the hotel, Chantelle, was very helpful and gave us great information about excursions.
Nice for budget minded people.
For a smaller resort it is very nice and clean. Very family friendly. We didn't have children with us, so the adult pool and section is very nice and away from the main pool activities and kid commotion. The little island of the beach was so enjoyable and the snorkeling around it was awesome. We never had a bad meal from any of the restaurants. For those who are budget minded, this is a nice place, but don't expect any frills. If there is are any drawbacks to this resort it would be that two of the four restaurants are not air conditioned and neither is the buffet, so if you like to get out of the heat to eat, sometimes it can be a little warm and humid during dining.
Facility was smaller than expected. Staff was wonderful.
Low end generic
The housekeeping staff were pleasant. Most of the staff seemed to hate their jobs. If you want lots of free food, loud Jamaican music and free sweet drinks go to the Holiday Inn Montego Bay. If you want good service with out an attitude go someplace else.
The hotel was great for the money spent on it. Depending on circumstances we would go back again.
Family Friendly Hotel
This hotel was perfect for our family of four. Our 2 kids: ages 7 and 9 had a blast playing in the pool and in the water of the Caribbean. As parents, we felt comfortable letting our kids walk to the different areas of the resort without us constantly by our side. Would definitely love to stay here again!
We had a fabulous time on our vacation. The Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and always greeted us with a smile. This hotel was not the fanciest, but it was perfect for our family. There was a lot for our kids to do and I felt comfortable letting my five year old run around a litle on her own. The food was good, there were things that were excellent each day and things that could be improved, but overall there was plenty of good food that both the adults and kids enjoyed. The property was well-maintained and large and it never felt really crowded. Also, I felt very comfortable, it was a family friendly place and I felt like there were people of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, cultures, etc all just having a good time together (which was refreshing with current events). All in all we had a great vacation and I would return (tomorrow if I could)!
We absolutely LOVE this place! The people are aMaZiNg! Keshawn, Damian, Richard, Kwasi, Paul, Christopher, Rossonai, gosh we love them! The service at all places in the hotel was great and the entertainment team did such a great job with the kids--and adults; although I have to give the bartenders, especially Richard and Damian, credit for the adult fun as well. This was our 2nd trip here and we're already counting down to next year!
average hotel. the beach is the star of this resort. rooms need updating(bathrooms are very small. food quality is ok, drinks are weak and sweet. no frig in rooms, thus no drinks buy your own water. staff is great. if your a smoker this is a non smoking resort(questionable) overall we had a great time. montego bay is wonderful.

I can't possibly say enough about my stay. The resort was amazing. Staff was incredible and always had a smile and a hello for you. Food choices were endless and the restaurants were top notch. For what you get for the price, there's no better place you could stay.
Boring, long check in lines
Long check in lines over one hour standing in line with baby. When I got to the front I was directed to a side room for IG customers. I refused to join vip list and went back to the front. Limited meal options. Insufficient staffing at bar and restaurant. No real entertainment.
Loved every minute!
Not sure where to start, but seriously I loved it!
This all-inclusive deal is worth every penny for the following reasons...
Breakfast, lunch and dinner is buffet style and there is a good range of dishes to choose from and all the food again is top quality. I was really impressed with the omelettes being made right in front of us each morning.
If you fancy something fancy, book a table at one of their restaurants. There are a few A La Carte restaurants - we ate at the Caribbean Fusion restaurant and the food was delicious.
There are places to eat around the resort during the day, so you are never hungry. The bar serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day too. If you are a drinker, you'll have to try the colourful cocktails.
The room was spacious and had a lovely view of the well-maintained gardens.
There was everything you needed, including your own safe deposit box, an iron and ironing board.
The only issue I had with the room was the lighting. The room seemed dim at times, and the lights were mainly in the corners of the room.
The bed was comfortable.
Throughout the day there are all sorts of fun and games for the whole family including bingo and dancing competitions.
The evening shows include singers, dancers and musicians. All very talented and interesting.
They all seem friendly and helpful. Special mention to the guest services people who helped me with a problem.
If you are buying snacks or biscuits - very expensive!
About a 15-minute ride from the airport
Overall: Had an excellent time. Would definitely recommend. I can't wait to go again!
Great hotel if you allow yourself to forget about the cons...
I arrived here alone for a getaway with friend. On arrival I was greeted by a not so friendly member of staff (Shadé was her name) although she did smile it did not last.
I was allocated a room on the FIRST FLOOR in building 1 (best wifi spot). I assumed first floor was above ground and not actually the literal ground. Basically for a four storey building the highest floor will be called the fourth floor and the bottom floor will be 1st instead of ground so be weary of that. the lifts take forever to move and the buttons are missing.
the next morning I requested that they moved me to the floor above that which is 2nd floor, with a partial ocean view.
rooms 2-7 are advisable if you want to just relax
rooms are generally clean, with the amenities depending on your room type. American cable tv shown - you should only be in your room to sleep!
my first night went really quick and I fell asleep to the noise of what was the regular evening entertainment - I was really looking forward to these over the coming nights, only to find that they were repetitive which I'll mention about later.
the weather wasn't the best but that was beyond the staff control- during the day the entertainment staff did their best to keep everyone's spirits up by having regular competitions and games.
the pool was cold - maybe this was down to the rain, but the ocean from each end of the hotel was beautiful, nice and clean.
when the weather got better the pool was very busy with loads of children who seems to enjoy their stay.
portside restaurant - the hotels main restaurant.
breakfast was great - buffet style with the food cooked to the tourist liking - not authentic tasting Jamaican, but edible. large range of drinks some watered down to the bone, the drink dispensers I advice to use.
lunch is also buffet style, something to gear you up for the rest of the afternoon.
dinner buffet again, great selection of food I doubt you'd go hungry. dinner closed at 10pm if you're feeling peckish still, the barefoot bar and grill serves drinks, burgers, fish, grilled cheese sandwiches with fries.
evening entertainment usually starts at 830 where guests decide whether to stay and have a drink in the inside lobby bar or make use of the hotel shuttle to margeritaville or pier one. I always stayed for the hotel entertainment but soon came to find it was very repetitive. magic show was sarcastically surprising, they will have a different performer everyday, singing the same songs, bob marley, ub40 you name it. dance performances the same. however, I cannot fault them at the same time as new guests come in everyday and may not realise its been repeated.
there are 5? other in-hotel restaurants which need to be reserved a day in advance.
staff service vary depending on what their role is.
front desk staff are not helpful, they'll leave you feeling helpless (I say this because of an personal issue I had) and are usually from uptown which may mean they'll treat you depending on how they perceive you.
restaurant staff and bar staff are so friendly they work hard, they're usually the ones who rely on tips in return for their hard work and I cannot fault them.
bellmen, gardeners, maintenance guys, housekeeping are very nice too, they greet you well.
the hotel has a mini market, a few stores that sell souvenirs, clothes and toiletries. can I just say the prices are daylight robbery, they are smart as they know not everyone will be comfortable leaving the resort to buy things.
on my last day, check out seemed easy. it rained hard and I called front desk for bellman service, he came up for my luggage and left without me. I gathered my things and came down shortly after to the luggage hold where he was nowhere to be found. I saw my luggage in the room but I didn't know I had to receive a ticket until my transfer was 15 mins away. they wouldn't give me my luggage until I wrote a statement and identified items in my luggage. I wouldn't say my stay was bad because of this though. just be smart.
I'm sorry the review may seem all jumbled up
OVERALL the resort is a three star, which you have to keep in mind. forget about the cons, the staff work really hard, you'll never get hungry, the resort is safe, build relationships with the staff and lastly have fun! - your stay may be better.
My second time, and second time still good
We visited here 19 years ago back when it was Holiday Inn Sunspree. My parents got married in the hotel and I remember being 10 years old and thinking how big and grand this hotel was and loving that I could go and get popcorn whenever I wanted. Coming back with my family and now my own son, I still found the hotel big but obviously things change and I wasn't a small girl looking up at the buildings in awe anymore. What I needed was a hotel that could help me with a small 4 month baby and had good quality food which I could pass onto him through breastfeeding. I wanted a hotel where I didn't feel uncomfortable breastfeeding too.
Holiday Inn didn't disappoint. The hotel is 10 minutes away from the airport - great after 10 hours on a plane with a squirming baby. We arrived pretty late at the hotel, so check in was quick with no queue. We were met with welcome drinks, which again, very helpful and needed. We were shown to building five and our 3 rooms were all next to each other. I had asked in my booking for two doubles, as I was sharing with a friend but wanted to co-sleep with the baby in our own bed. We were given a room with one queen. Luckily, my parents had a room with two doubles so we swapped. I was quite surprised to see they'd given us a room without a bath - not ideal when you have young children. Reception told me to come back after 2pm the next day for a room swap, but by then I couldn't be bothered to move all my stuff again.
Rooms were basic. TV played American TV shows. Air con was a huge unit that I couldn't quite work out and which made us all quite ill. The hot water in the shower was not constant and would turn cold sporadically. But the maids were really hard working and our rooms were always spotless (though on some days they did come to the room quite late on).
The weather was a bit hit and miss, which obviously the hotel can't control. This meant the pool was freezing. The sea (and beach) were lovely though. On a few days it rained and the staff tried hard to put on some entertainment inside, but it was very limited and we found ourselves without much to do on those days.
Breakfast was amazing. Everything you could want. It alternated every other day with different items. One day there would be fried bread, the next pancakes.- for example. I just wish they had plantain everyday, and not most days (as I love it). Great drinks selection in the buffet area and the staff would help with alcohol etc. They always found our big party a nice table with space for the buggy. But lunch and dinner weren't as great as breakfast and some of that food was a bit hit or miss. Lunch, however, you could go to the snack bar and get burgers, hot dogs, fried fish, chips and grilled cheese. There was also a jerk chicken hut. So food was not ever an issue. The pool bar opened at 10am but it was really short staffed so there was always a queue. Jodie, who works there, was so so friendly and made a real effort to learn my son's name and always come over to see him when she could.
The animation team were good. Not the best I've seen. In other resorts, they are entertaining from morning to evening with games, competitions, dressing up etc. The team here did a couple activities but were pretty quiet otherwise. Terry was always fun.
The hotel was very clean and the staff worked overtime to keep it beautiful and spotless. There were designated smoking areas which I really appreciated. Also, the bar staff used to make something called a Bob Marley, which they're not allowed to make anymore and no one could tell me why. But a Shark Bite was pretty good too.
4 stars. I'd go back tomorrow if I could!
