2016 XCaret

We were supposed stay at the Allegro Playacar and were moved due to construction at the Playacar. The move went super smooth, we were met by Kinga and all of my guests were upgraded to the club building. XCaret as always is an awesome, beautiful resort. The only complaint is that the club hot tubs are not only hot (understandable) but the pumps never seem to work. Minor, Minor, issue all things considered. Entire staff is great and this is one of our favorite places to go More>

We spent one week here as family and we loved it. Very positive for me was that it was not crowded, although most of the rooms were booked out, there was enough space for everyone, we never had problems finding free seets in the restaurant, free place at the swimming pool or on the beach. We prefer swimming in the sea, this hotel is great for that, the beach and sea is just in front of it, you can take long walks along the beach, aprox. 20 minutes walk from the hotel there is a nice place for snorkeling. Rooms had a great atmosphere (I advice a room upstairs with the straw roof), were comfortable and clean (every day a different animal from the towels was created - lovely), each room had a hammock to relax in. Staff was friendly and helpful, food was great. I loved watergym with our great animators Eric and Vincenzo, and zumba lessons on the beach. The garden was beautiful, taken care of regularly, our children loved watching different kinds of animals living there (lizards, squirels, racoons ...). Definitely recommend this hotel. More>

Another vacation at the allegro!!

We came back to the Allegro in August, our home away from home in Playacar. This would be our fifth time here, and this is our choice of resorts in the Mayan Riviera. We were a little afraid of what we were to find, as Barcelo has bought over the Occidental line, and we love the intimate feel of this resort, and would hate to see it change. There were renovations being done while we were there, but did not interfere with the vacation at all. The buffet was up and running, as was the daily entertainment, and bars...etc, so no complaints there. Check in was fast and friendly, we got the room we requested, and the charm and homey feeling we loved and still love was still there. We found some old staff that are still there, so it really felt like coming back home!!!! We were fortunate enough to get a preview of the new rooms, and we loved what we saw!!! The rooms have been updated with stylish accessories, but still has the charm that we, and many repeat customers love !!!!!!!! so, this will not be our last vacation at this resort!!! The beach is as beautiful as ever, and my daily ritual was a walk to the left, or to the right of the resort!!!! Awesome way to start the day!! Food was fantastic, breakfast , lunch, and dinner!! STAFF...... best people you will ever have the pleasure to deal with,,,, We notice that the resort vendors were no longer there in the evening, this was a little disappointing, as we look forward to them after dinner. I hope the Barcelo will be bringing them back after the renovations, as we missed Alejandro, our cigar man!!!! Bring him back !! We have fallen in love with the Allegro Playacar, and can't wait to come back and experience the new Barcelo... More>

We recently stayed at this hotel as a large group. We were a little surprised by the level of work being carried out, as we were previously advised it was "light renovations" by travelbag. After one week of our stay the main reception had dramatically decreased to make way for the new lobby, and the main restaurant above was shut down, so all meals had to be eaten at the bar by the pools/beach We had issues with our room; poor air con and a major leaky roof following a storm (water pouring through the light fittings! Eeeek) We were offered another room and had to move ourselves due to the time of the night, and it was much better for us. I suffered accidents due to the concrete being wet, and also a terrible slip resulting in a head injury on the tiled ramp leading to my mothers room for which the doctor was called. I know that signs were dotted around, but the walk ways need addressing before someone is seriously hurt. It has taken weeks for the lump on the back of my head to go down. Just be very cautious as you walk anywhere as all surfaces that are wet end up like a skating rink (including the concrete) But apart from the issues I have raised we had an amazing holiday. The beach was stunning, and the staff were absolutely amazing! Victor, Alex, Erika and Alfredo took care of so well! We really could not praise them high enough. So friendly, kind, thoughtful and wonderful with our children. We miss them dearly! We would like to return once the renovations have been completed just to see if it is as good as barcelo has planned. I would like to think that he would keep on such wonderful members of staff, as they truly are wonderful people More>
