I have spent two lovely weeks from 4 - 17 July at Occidental Allegro with my 4 year old daughter. This was our first holiday to Mexico and AI board. I do not normally bother to write reviews but I thought I will do it this time as I cannot fault this hotel. I will split it up into sections as other people did as I think it is easier to read and help me that I do not forget anything :-)
Food: Me and my daughter are fussy eaters but I can not fault the food. The food in the buffet was nice with plenty choices, each day is different cuisine for a week and then it will repeat but I do believe that's how it works in most AI hotels. Personally because of the heat we were never that hungry anyway but we always found something to eat and it was nice and warm. I am sure that no matter how fussy anyone may be....you will always find something to eat!! Some of the waiters in the restaurant were more friendly than others but you will get that anywhere. Overall, we never walked out of the restaurant hungry or disappointed!! We have tried the two of their a la carte restaurants, the Italian and Mexican - I preferred the Italian - the food was delicious (salmon) but I know many people liked more the Mexican....maybe it was just what we had ordered (Lamb and Fajitas).
Room: The rooms are basic but I did not pay for a five star hotel so I did not expect a fiver star room, as long they were clean which they were I was happy as we hardly spent any time in the room anyway. We stayed in 3315 which is on first floor with the thatched roof that I think has some pros and cons...we never had problems with AC in this room and were never too warm in the room I think because of the ceiling being so high. However, what I did not like that you can hear some creepy animals crawling on your roof during the night or in the morning birds singing above your head and making noise (nothing the hotel can do about this) and it does not mean that everybody will experience this! I know people were saying that the ground floor rooms are too warm so you will just have to decide what will you prefer. Some people said that they had leak but we experienced two storms during our stay at night and never had a drop in the room! I have contacted Silvia via emails and facebook before our stay and requested mattress topper which was great and I would recommend it but also at arrival I was given a VIP bracelet that gave us a few extra freebies which definitely made our stay more pleasant... thank you Silvia once again for this :-).
Also someone mentioned that they had problem to open their room with the key, which I have experienced as well but Silvia told me that if you have a cell phone next to the key that will deactivate it so be aware of that....as I did not have any problem since I knew that and kept it separately!
Entertainment: Each day there is a mini disco at 8:30 and then night show at 9:30. My daughter joined in few times but then she just wanted to watch but she still enjoyed it....they do some dancing and then some competitions. I have not seen all of the night shows as my daughter was sometime too tired and to be honest me too :-). The one I have seen...some were better than others but I would never just walked away because I could not watch.
They had some external sources to do the show such as fire show at the pool, Brazilian dancers and Michael Jackson(my favourite), however, the Allegro entertainment team always worked really hard to make people laugh....they were some participating competitions, which were funny to watch!
During the day they are plenty activities (around/in) the pool to chose from and any age group such as aqua gym, salsa, volleyball, zumba, etc...as well as competitions that I enjoyed to watch and were fun. The entertainment team do try their best to get people participate in the activities and are really friendly, smiling and most of the staff remember your name, which I really liked....my daughter got definitely spoiled for an attention. Special thank you to these guys Israel, Ever, Phillipe, Jesus, Imman, Ruben and Salma for working so hard and made our holiday even more enjoyable...hope to see you again.
Kids Club: Well, here is maybe one downside at this resort. Basically, the Eden Village that is for Italian people have their own kids club (Tarta) and it seemed that most of the kids at this resort were Italians...so few times happened that when we turned up at the Kids club...she would be the only one there, which she did not like and we would leave. The Italian kids club would however, sometime come to the kids club to do some activities there and my daughter would then stay because she was not alone there, although she would be with AIDA (the kids club supervisor) doing activities with her. Once my daughter got to know AIDA that also became her's best friend ...she did not mind stay even if she was the only one and wanted to even have a lunch with her and AIDA did, which was really nice. There were days that other children would join in but it was really depends who did arrive. I am not saying this is the hotel's fault as I do understand that Eden Village is a separate company and wants to provide their own services (most of the children did not speak any English) so it was hard to get to play together...and some of them were not even interested.
Anyway, overall, my daughter still had a ball and AIDA did a fantastic job to keep her occupied and made some beautiful things that we could take home as keepsakes...Thank you AIDA
Trips: I only did two trips during this holiday as I was limited what I could do due to the age of my daughter and also I wanted to have more relaxing holiday. I have booked outside the hotel swimming with the Turtles, which went fine but I would not recommended as I did not feel comfortable that we were picked up in an old car that i thought it will brake any minute and there was only one couple with us and just the whole thing did not feel professionally done....however, we did swim with turtles and the people were nice.
The second trip we have done was Excaret and I can not say anything more than just PERFECT...must do when in Mexico...we had a fantastic day. I booked it at the hotel with the guys in red t-shirt and we went for the package including buffet lunch (we had it at the beach) with stunning view . It is expensive $159 but I was lucky that I did not have to pay for my daughter as under 5's go free! but it is WORTHY!!
Otherwise, what can I say? The beach and ocean is absolutely stunning at Allegro - the best I have seen so far!! I know that some people were not happy with this hotel for various reasons because we all have different standards and expectations. However, I think if you do not expect a five star hotel because you are not paying for a five star hotel you will not be disappointed!! Me and my daughter had a fantastic two weeks of vacation and I was already looking to book another holiday at Allegro for next summer....the staff and beach make it worthy to return...miss you Allegro!!

We just returned from a weeks trip, with Family, all I can say is I usually do not write reviews , but I feel I have to this time, read all the reviews about the A/C! and they were 125% correct it was so hot you had to take a cold shower before you went to bed every night, but you still sweat all night, it had to be 90 degrees in the room around the clock, TERRIBLE! and as far as the cleanliness there were bugs, and lizards in the room as as well, there was always a putrid smell in the bathroom. As far as the food, its Buffet food, which could be good sometimes, not hear though. BAD.. and the pools were always dirty with foam floating in them,,, the beach was PERFECT though that is my only positive part of the trip the beach and the town 5th ave was great.. SOCIAL MEDIA GROUP ha Hilarious, you are getting a better room from Slyvia( we dealt with her prior to coming down and at the resort numerous times) ya ok I found out from the staff all the rooms are the same, and they get the same complaints daily, air, dirty, pool, bad food! Please people do yourself a favor do not stay here under no circumstances... you would be better off driving down the highway and throwing your 1000s out the window.... As I said this is actually the 1st review I wrote in my life,, I just do not want any one else to be taken.. we also complained numerous times and nothing was done...
We have been every where in the carribean, Aruba, Jamaica, Virgin Islands, Mexico numerous times, Cayman Islands etc... this was by far the worst!

I'm very disappointed with this place. They didn't have a room for us, stuck us in what was supposed to be a better room for one night. It was small and with 2 roll away beds stuck together. Told us to come to the lobby at 9 a.m. we were then told they would have a room for us at 2 pm. NOT ACCEPTABLE! !!! The one dining buffet was not to bad but nothing to get excited about. The entertainment at the pool was the best thing they offered. I will never recommend Allegory and am disappointed that Occidental has their name on this place. Oh and did I mention the harassment about buying a time share? This was a very bad first experience in Mexico
Was very surprised how awful our experience was, the travel agent assured us it would be wonderful !!!!

We went to a travel agent and he highly recommended this resort , told us it was great !! So , never being to Mexico myself we agreed to it. When the bell boy took us to our room there was no air conditioning, we said to him how hot the room was and he said oh no it's working fine. We slept two boiling nights in this room and after making a big fuss they finally moved us to a room with working air conditioning. The water pressure in both rooms were horrible, was hard to have a proper shower, they told us it's the water pressure and nothing they could do. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable, made it hard to sleep. TV remote wouldn't work, couldn't change channels. We were warned from a friend to keep our valuables locked in the safe ,which we did, because she had money stolen at her stay there. The food was TERRIBLE, not enjoyable at all , the same with the two restraunts the Mexican and Italian the food was terrible there as well. We would never return to this resort or recommed it to anyone, were going 5 star next time, we learned our lesson.

My return visit to the Allegro Playacar was not as good as my first time there. I had booked a superior premium room and was disappointed that I received a room in Building 51 without a pool or ocean view. I expressed my dissatisfaction and was met with a shrug of the shoulders. Last time I was in Building 55 with a wonderful view of that amazing blue sea!
After two days at the resort, the A/C started to fail, and the room became warmer than the outside temperatures, making a good night's sleep impossible. I informed the reception person twice about this problem before a repairman arrived. I actually had to wait in the room 4 hours for him to show up, diagnose and repair the system, and then it failed again! At the same time I had water leaking through my bathroom ceiling and light fixture. I called reception and no one arrived that evening or the next morning. By this time I insisted that I be moved to a similar class room with working A/C and no leaks and after several hours was told I could move into a room behind the tennis courts next to the lobby in Building 22. I refused this atrocious downgrade, and requested a manager. Ms. Ivonne Gonzalez heard my tale of 5 days with insufficient or non working A/C and immediately secured a room in the Vacation Club section for my last 2 nights at the resort. I waited another 1/2 hour for a bellman to transfer my bag, then decided I would just roll it over to the new room myself. This whole process took from 8am to maybe 3pm, so another day was lost in paradise!
The new room was quite comfortable, with working A/C, a superior bed, a small kitchen area and an ocean view. Perhaps I should have realized that front desk personnel cannot make room change decisions and spoken to the manager sooner.
The grounds, food, and other services were quite satisfactory, as I mentioned in my 1st review. I did experience a bit of a problem getting ala carte restaurant reservations, only managing to secure 2 for my 8 night stay.
I have another reservation at this same hotel in January, 2015 for 10 nights. I have sent an email to the Allegro about the issues I encountered during this stay. Their response will determine if I return to this Allegro a 3rd time.
