My friend and I were looking for a four-day trip and after searching several properties online, we decided on the Allegro partially because of the price but mostly because of reviews. We had been at another great property in January but thought we would try somewhere else. We were not disappointed in the least and I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a smaller place. It's about 50 mins from the airport but the location was awesome! The staff, from front desk to beach bar to buffet, were all very helpful and friendly. The daily activities team are lots of fun!
We only ate at the buffet this time but it was very good. The shows are entertaining at night. Only thing is there isn't anything to do at night after the show . There is a small "club/bar" but only a few people...mind you it could have been the time of year we were there. But for those who want to go party or dance downtown playa is very close ($10 cab ride) and 12th ave is a great time!
Our room was small but quaint and clean. There is a hammock and table and chairs on every balcony.
I'm looking forward to bringing my children next time! Thanks to the amazing hard working staff!
We stayed here for 5 days in October for a family trip. I like the way the hotel was set up with there being 8 rooms to a building. It was not set up like a typical hotel with a long hallway full of rooms.
That being said, the room itself could have been much nicer. Several people in our group wanted a king sized bed instead of the 2 full sized beds but there weren't any more available so many of the couples got stuck with 2 full sized beds. Also, we booked our trip a couple of months in advance and only 2 families out of the 5 that went were able to have rooms that were close together. Also, our travel agent suggested we arrive early, to make the most of our short stay, so we did. But none of our rooms were ready until after 3:00 PM. We were told we would be able to put our luggage in a locked room until our rooms were ready, but instead they were put in the lobby at the bellman desk, out in the open and not secured. We will never arrive anywhere now before our rooms will be ready, since all we did was sit by the pool and wait and hope our luggage didn't disappear.
The beds themselves were hard as a rock. The beds were on a concrete frame, and you could definitely feel it. There was air conditioning and a ceiling fan, so that helped our sleep quality. We were in an upstairs room and the stairs were very unsafe, the treads weren't level and you really had to watch your step or it would be very easy to fall. Since there were stairs, there were no elevators anywhere that I saw, so that may be an issue for people needing easier access to the amenities. The walk from the pool to the lobby and restaurants was very steep, which was hard for some of the people in our party.
The pools and the beach were very nice, though. There was entertainment every day by the pool and every night near the lobby and the entertainment staff was fun. As far as the bar goes, the only beer there was to choose from was Dos XX lager on draft. You had to pay extra for any other kind, so that didn't really seem very "all inclusive" to me. The specialty restaurants were extremely limited in menu choices. It was kind of comical, actually. The buffet was the best bet as far as having a lot to choose from. The pizza was good, too.
The hotel was in a good location, it was a nice, short taxi ride to 5th avenue, where there are lots of shops and restaurants. Many of the staff also spoke English, which was good since most in our party did not speak Spanish. You are given a towel card when you arrive, so you can always get fresh towels, which was nice. The activities desk was kind of disappointing. One person in our group rented a snorkel and it was only free for an hour and it was cheap equipment, at that. You also had to pay to use the wi-fi and it was very slow.
All in all, we felt safe on the hotel premises, which was very important to us. I would not stay here again, given that there are so many other hotels in the area to choose from.
Being a First Club member, our stay was very good thanks to the constant care of the staff led by Francisco. He has brought much to the First club since my joining in 2003. Jessica, head concierge at Allegro Playacar, was very kind and professional. Her assistants and the bar tenders were great. I hope to return every year and see my Mexican friends that make me feel like family. The food was very good and my waiter Issac at the Italian dinner was wonderful. Many thanks too all as we look forward to seeing you all again next year. Edward Bittner proud member of the Founders Club.
Me and my wife went there on september 2015. For the price, I think it was the worthy trip I ever made. Cool place, great activities and animation crew, good food and we were well received. It is not one of the high class place of the area but if you just wanna spend a great time and get what you are paying for, and listening to travelers who were staying at hotels around, the Allegro Playacar is definetly a place to go.
We booked this through Funjet Vacations which we had used before and were very pleased. Not this time. Starting at the beginning, I give credit to Frontier Airlines for a good flight. Their baggage rules are different then most carriers but they board the back of the plane first which is the smartest thing ever! We arrived at the hotel around noon and since check in wasn't until 3 we were given our wrist bands in order to enjoy the amenities while waiting for our room. That impressed me so started out great. We got to the lobby desk at about 5 minutes till 3 to check on our room. Trust me, when this place gives you a time, they won't budge by even one minute! The description on Funjet of the superior room was completely and totally bogus! We booked with the Anniversary package being promised various things on our anniversary. The lobby desk told us we needed to speak to guest services about that. At guest services, he barely looked at our marriage certificate and said they will do various small nice things for us on that day. Needless to say, on our Anniversary we got nothing. It became quite clear later that unless you were young and flirty with the guest services guy, he could have cared less that you were there. Our room was horrible! Funjet's description of this room was close to the pool or beach. We were close to nothing! When I approached the lobby desk about the room, I was rudely told that it was a superior room and the other rooms were $50 a night more. Then he walked away. I would have hated to see the "inferior" room. Our room consisted of double beds (anniversary, really?) The floor was very stained, the thermostat came off in your hand when you touched it, the bath gel in the shower fell apart when you touched it, our bathroom window was broken and the beds were like sleeping on concrete! In fact, when I looked under the sheet, it was concrete with a box springs and a one inch piece of foam over it. I like a hard bed but this was awful.
I would love to give a review about the specialty restaurants but trying to get a reservation was impossible. We were told they were both booked up for all the nights we were there.(Again by guest services) When we walked past the Mexican restaurant, there were 3 tables in use. Most of the staff was very nice and our housekeeper was amazing that she could even make that nasty room look livable, but it's that small percentage that can ruin your vacation. The pools were very nice and the beach was beautiful which is probably the only reason I'm giving them the rating of 2. The drinks were good but the food was mediocre. The buffet was very limited on selection and one night when my hubby was napping I went to eat by myself I was told (very rudely) I couldn't set at the only available table because I was by myself. I can state it was the worst anniversary ever and I will not return to that hotel or area again. When you went shopping in the downtown area, the regular shops acted as though they didn't want you there and the local shops tried to rip you off. I've always loved going to Mexico but I wouldn't recommend this hotel or vicinity to my worst enemy.
