Hotel is located is Playacar, best spot in Playa del Carmen and maybe best spot in Riviera (close to most of tourism points). In this area you could find several hotels, in a row, one of them Allegro now a Barcelo Hotel.
First of all, (if you read this and renovation is finished skip this part) hotel must be closed because are in middle of huge renovation that affects you like a customer. Instead of working in a single spot now (august) are working in four different spots at same time. If this hotel was huge maybe will not affect you, but in this small hotel means you are resting in a construction site. Therefore now is not recommended to visit.
Rooms are smaller than Riviera standard but functional. Bed is huge and confortable, air con works perfect and also a ceiling fan is available. Bathroom is small and some rooms have bathtub and others shower. Some areas are wet due to condensation inside and take care of your feet. TV is located in top of a cabinet (quite odd because inside are a coffee machine that must me switch for a smaller TV)
Buffet restaurant has two main areas, one cooled by ceiling fans (not recommended) and other by air con. Oddly most of people ate at ceiling fan area (hottest area) and some reviews talk about hot inside buffet. It is your choice but restaurant had a cool area (next to the other area).
Food is great, no complains about it, good quality and enough of everything. I try Mexican Restaurant and it is ok, more fusion than Mexican but ok. Italian is usually full of Italians and I am not interested. Beverages are also great, first quality brands, maybe beer from Modelo (not a Corona, more like Barrilito) is just slightly bad than others alcoholic drinks. Wine is also great for an all-inclusive.
Beach is perfect, best beach in area and top three in Riviera Maya. Pools are great, one next to main bar and other behind. Food around area is great, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, great selection.
Staff quality overall is good. Restaurant 10/10, bars 9/10, front desk 5/10, animation 8/10, room service 10/10 and guys trying to sell you 0/10. Front desk is not good, people are not rude but not solve any issue. Time sharing guys must remove (I don´t do it) a full set of stars, rude and very boring people, are located in middle of lobby next to buffet and exit therefore everyday try same trick.
We love the Allegro Playacar!
Smaller resort, everything within walking distance.
Probably the prettiest beach in Playa Del Carmen.
Very quaint and has the feel of Mexico!
Good variety of food, the friendliest staff very accommodating.
2 pools, 3 restaurants, and a great pool side Buffett for lunch.
Had a wonderful time and will be back soon!
Stayed here for a week late in July with my daughters and thoroughly enjoyed it. The pools are good(one quiet and one full on) which means you can get away from the entertainment if you want. Beach is fantastic and only 1 min away from the pool bar. Staff all very friendly and those around the bar give great service if you tip them early in your stay. The food was not bad and not brilliant. Breakfast is the high point(omlette man was brill) The dinner was poor, not enough clean tables, area very hot and sweaty and food just ok. After the second night we took the taxi into playa del carmen so we could have a better dinner. Biggest frustration was the wifi($50) for the week and coverage makes it almost useless and a waste of money. My tip would be if you are on the Wyndham hotel side access their wifi as it is only $35 and speed was good. Overall - would I go back, yes if WIFI coverage improved and was free as it is most places in EU now. Oh last comment - stop the sales guys outside breakfast hassling the guests to go on tours/visit sister hotel - very amateur.
We enjoyed a fun family trip to the Allegro Playacar resort. The beach is beautiful and the pool and grounds are nice. Everyone was friendly. The food was good and plentiful. The construction is being well handled. The rooms aren't large but are nice and clean and cool.
We took our 2 children to Playa del Carmen to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We are First Club Members but have never visited this Occidental location before. We loved it! Having the entire top floor of one of the 2 storey-buildings facing the pool and ocean was ideal - we loved laying out on the hammocks at night and listening to the waves crashing. The rooms were beautifully decorated, air conditioning kept us nice and cool - and they were always kept very clean. The beach is stunning with clear blue water. We enjoyed kayaking and sailing, and participated in many of the resorts activities (their staff was excellent). We enjoyed the grounds - always well groomed, loved the wildlife (iguanas, woodpeckers, etc.), and the kids loved the pools and basketball courts. Restaurants were all excellent, in particular the Italian one. Drinks made at the bar were also delicious. We would occasionally eat our breakfast or snacks in the first club lounge, but most of the time we'd eat at the buffet and snack bar for breakfast and lunch. 5th avenue filled with shops and markets was only a 15-minute walk away, and it is such a quiet neighbourhood that we felt very safe leaving the resort to check out the shops. They catered to our every need, and we will definitely return!
