Relaxing time in Paradise
This resort is clean and relaxing. The low key small scale of it makes it very appealing. If you want a relaxing vacation this is the place for it!!
This was our second visit to this resort
We stayed at Allegra Playa Car in 2015. Since then there have been some updates, which were all very nice with the exception of the removal of the grass umbrellas on the beach. They were replaced with palm trees. We appreciated not being attacked by time share people. They now approach it as a vacation club, with much less aggression. The entertainment staff is not as good as back in 2015. The resorts in the area usually put on a nice super bowl evening. All the bars on 5th avenue were running the super bowl on an English speaking channel. They really dropped the ball on it this year. Victor chose to run the biggest night of American football in Spanish. All of the audience with the exception of about six people spoke English. During the commercials they would turn up the lights so you could not see the screen so Victor could play football trivia games with the audience. One time, they turned up the lights while the kicker was going for the extra point. Some of the entertainment staff were much friendlier than others. Some would not even make eye contact.
Review of Allegro Playacar
The wait-staff was excellent. The great ones remembered us from day-to-day. The beach was awesome!!! The front desk staff was not all that helpful. The "concierge" only wanted to sell us a timeshare. Our bathroom smelled like a sewer and the bath water came out brown each time we turned it on. There were certain areas of the grounds that always smelled like sewer and the public bathrooms were gross. The buffet was ok but we did not enjoy any of the restaurants. The entertainment was so-so; there was even a time when they stopped translating in English because there weren't enough Americans and Canadians in the audience. That was a little frustrating.
we had trouble with our room the first and second night. once we overcame the room issues the resort was great. I understand the resort had some remodeling done. the room I was in should not have been listed as available. The resort was able to find me a more accommodating room.
Facility was worn and dirty, swimming pools were filthy and had no filtration or water treatment, swim up bar was controlled by ignorant parents with toddlers sitting at the bar all day, the food service was poor quality, nothing like our previous trips to this area, witnessed a child pissing in pool after parent removed diaper, air conditioned spaces weren't air conditioned, entertainment was lousy, people overall not courteous at all, just a cheap resort overall, wouldn't recommend it to anyone!!!!!!!
Facility is old and very worn, no upgrades, people not very friendly, food was terrible at all buffets, pool had no filtration and was filthy daily, witnessed parents allowing child to piss in the pool after diaper was removed, the best thing about this facility was the beach!!!!!
Decent place to stay.
Beach was nice, restaurants slow, front desk uptight and not very friendly, food decent, toliet did not work for 3 days had to fill with shower head to flush, maintenance puzzled by need of new flapper? Rooms need updated. Overall was decent place to stay but probably would find better next time.
bed bugs after being upgraded
My wife and I arrived at our hotel the lobby was very aged the marble countertop sticky and the particular person checking Us in someone unattentive. After checking in we went to our room very dark had a smell we took a look at the sheets and there was hair on the sheets and disdain. I went to the front desk complaint about this they were very apologetic he said we will upgrade you it will be the same kind of room only closer to the beach ok. The room in the condition of the room still not good stains on the tables on the floor we had twin beds this time one had hair when did not. I told my wife I would sleep on the air bed she could have the other. She needed to leave immediately however we could not make arrangements with Apple fo leave. During the three-day period my wife experienced a lot of bed bug bites we know these are bed bugs because they're not sand fleas and looking at the conditions of the mattress how healthy they looked under the sheets with the cheap foam cushion on top it was bed bugs not mosquitoes and gnats and fleas bed bugs we even looked it up online and there were some sample pictures that matched what my wife had exactly this was pretty much torture for her. On the fourth day we were able to speak to an Apple representative and make arrangements to get out of that place we transferred next door to the Royal Hideaway Hey sister Resorts of where we were staying. We did have to pay significantly for the upgrade but it was well worth the money it was good to leave where we were. As for the Royal Hideaway perfect. Donn ovshak Oklahoma City Oklahoma USA
Departure Transfer Confermation
I usually need to spend valuable vacation time on the phone to confirm my departure transfer to the airport. It would be beneficial to to streamline this procedure.
Great beach and resort
The beach is one of the best. The food is adequate but we didn't come here for a food trip but for the sun and surf. The staff is amazing. We had to change rooms and Ivan and Ivonne were so kind and helpful and exceeded our expectations with a complimentary message. The room we were in (5711) was outstanding. I like the small feel of the resort and that it doesn't feel like a "cattle call". You get to know others because you run into them regularly.
Given the price it was great!
Great price, nice beach, nice staff, clean basic resort.

Would love to go back
Probably the first resort that I’ve been positive I want to come back to. Well laid out, beautiful, small resort with a beautiful huge beach (and lots of loungers). The rooms were clean and nicely decorated – rather small but loved the thatched roof on each building and enjoyed the hammock on the deck.
Wonderful food! We went to all three a la cartes – Mexican was delicious, Asian very good, but maybe we caught the Italian on a bad night. It was cold, noisy and the food was a little disappointing. One “not so great” is that the a la cartes seem to be short staffed. But considering how little staff they work with it was efficient.
Evening entertainment was very good for such a small resort. And the entertainment team did a good job during the day as well. The pool where the entertainment team worked during the day is a plain rectangular pool. If there are activities there it’s fun, but to swim around in, nothing to really see. One concern we had was during the foam party – it is very fun for everyone and we enjoyed sitting by and watching, but the foam builds up so much that a little girl (about 4) walked too close to the edge of the pool and slipped in under the all the foam. If her father hadn’t been right there and we hadn’t been watching no one would have known she was under the foam. Very scary and something to really watch for. The quiet pool had a couple of sections to swim around in, so a little more enjoyable.
Wonderful staff as well. Very friendly and quite efficient in their work. Very pleasant stay. We will watch for good prices for it again.
It was nice... average
Resort was nice and clean... buffet always was fresh and different each night. Serving staff at the Bar and Buffet were AMAZING!!!
Staff at the Front Desk as well as our Air Transat staff at the hotel could not understand us and we almost ended up with extra charges because of miscommunication. Would maybe recommend more training to them.
Rooms were very small though and just felt very routine each night. Not a lot to do at the resort. Disco didn't open till 11 - DJ usually showed up around 11:30 and then had to set up.
It was a nice holiday - but I do not think I would go back to this resort.
Paradise in Mexico
Tips & Guidelines? Everything was wonderful - a truly relaxing vacation - loved it. The location and everything within the resort, the drivers who picked us up from the airport in Cancun and who picked us up at the resort for our return to Cancun were great. The porter who met us at the airport (Terminal 4) - eased all our concerns in finding our way around to leave the country (first time travelers to Mexico). We will be back!
We stayed at the Allegro Playacar for the 2nd time. Staff is excellent, grounds are kept up and rooms are clean. Great resort for the money! A good variety of restaurants, food and nighttime entertainment.
Allegro Playacar Excellent Experience
Enjoyed the pool, buffet, entertainment, ocean beach, bar drinks, room cleanliness and friendly staff....would stay again definitely. Overall one of the best places I have stayed in Mexico ever. Location close to Playa Del Carmen was a plus as well. Congrats to the staff and Mgmt for creating a great resort to enjoy.
