We had a wonderful trip. The resort is small, not crowded at all. Always found lounge chairs on the beach. The beach was beautiful and clean. Buffet was good and always clean. Two things we were not completely satisfied with were the amount of people walking through the beach on the resort trying to sell things. It was a constant stream of them. The dinner reservations, we were only only allowed to make reservations for 2 of our 4 nights. Not a very good service. When we did go in the restaurants were empty, so not sure why they wouldn't take more reservations. Unless to keep their costs down. The food and service at the restaurants were excellent.
Viva Wyndham Azteca
The only 2 "complaints" I have are VERY minor - - - (1) it was a bit challenging to regulate the room temperature. While it was a comfortable temperature, the humidity tended to be a bit higher than we'd have liked. That may have been due to the first floor room, however. (2) It would have been nice to have more seats around the pool, as by the time the pool opened at 8am, they would be already full. Otherwise, the trip was absolutely AMAZING. :)
Viva Wyndham Azteca 4/2017
Very comfortable beds, but sham pillows outnumber real pillows; as for more. Buffet restaurant good - but for Mexico where the ancients drank chocolate - there is almost no chocolate on the dessert bar :-( . Hotel is kept very clean and gardens are continually maintained. Lovely breeze on the beach and there are lots of chaises under palm trees for shade. People do reserve the chaises around the pool, but even if there were twice as many chairs, I suspect the situation would be the same. Unfortunately, for those who need to monitor their children in the pool, there are not too many options. I was actually thinking that it would be useful to have ones own transportable folding chair, perhaps there is somewhere to buy one in the area. There is a gift shop to purchase souvenirs, goggles, sunscreen, etc. The rooms are air conditioned, and the public spaces have a nice breeze and didn't need it (we went in April). Do not get a room by the bar unless you stay up late, due to the loud music. Kayaking on the ocean was fun, and one of the guys will take you out on one of the catamarans (both free). We did not go to any of the specialty restaurants, so I have no tips/opinion to provide.
Viva Wyndham Azteca
This is an older facility with simple room furnishings however service is excellent!
two hotels for the price of one
Stayed at the Aztecia but was able to use the facilities at Maya. Beach was beautiful at both resorts.
Best Beach Vacation
The Viva Wyndham Azteca in Playa del Carmen is the best all-inclusive we have stayed in on the Riviera Maya Mexico. The size of the hotel allows the staff to get to know you and your wishes immediately. The staff was amazing. We were amazed at the beach and never had a problem finding an unoccupied lounge chair to our liking. The specialty restaurants were by reservation only, and although our stay length only allowed us two reservations immediately, we were able to visit the reservation desk each afternoon and get an available spot at one of the restaurants for that evening. Being able to eat at both the Azteca and the Maya gave us six different restaurants to chose from. It would be difficult to decide which of the four was our favorite because we enjoyed great meals and service at all of them. We will definitely return to this wonderful hotel.
Average Hotel not quite a resort.
Not much to do, no air conditioned space other than you room. The proximity to town was a plus. I've stayed at more than 12 resorts in Playa del Carmen and this one was second from the worst.
Not the best experience
We have certainly stayed at much nicer resorts in Mexico. This resort met minimum requirements. Very family orientated, with absolutely nothing to entertain adults. Food was acceptable, but nothing to brag about. Bartenders were excellent. Beach was gorgeous. Don't spend money on wifi service, don't expect soap or bottled water.
My resort was excellent. It was my first all-inclusive and I was very pleased. Everything was great. I started getting sick of the food towards the end but, I feel like that is a common thing with resorts. Overall though, five stars.
Apple Rep in Playacar
Rep was great at arranging things in the schedule to accommodate us.
We always found something to eat, but at the buffet for dinner there was hardly any fresh meat. No carving station with beef, pork, duck, turkey. Every night was the same things, usually with some kind of sliced beef in gravy for your meat. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and pizza were served for dinners.

I stayed at the Viva Azteca in November 2017 for 7 night, with my girlfriend and my Family. We reserved through Settemari Club.
As we reserved through the agency, we had a transportation service from Cancun Airport to the Village by bus, which was quiet funny because Settemari entertainment Team made us feel at ease ever if we were all really tired after 11 hours on a plane.
All the F&B outlets, were very good, with lots of variety. We really enjoyed every meal, even if the most special place for us was the beach bar, which served great burgers & other things 24/7.
All the staff was extremely nice, the whole entertainment Team Settemari made us enjoy every second we spent in the village, and gave us precious suggestions about what to do in the surrounding area.
In particular, I would like to mention Samantha who with her knowledge, her smile, her simpathy and her professionalism went really over and beyond our expectations and made our holiday a dream come true.
We are looking forward to coming back to Mexico!
No hot water.
The resort was nice and small. The staff was great. Spoke English which was very nice. The room was very nice but we did not have hot water 4 out of the five day. They did fix it as soon as we called. The food was fantastic in the buffet. The waves on the beach were a little to ruff for people who have back or leg problems. Walk to town was 20 minutes not 10 like they tell you. The place is very old but the cleaning crew keeps it very clean. I don't think it should be a 4 star anymore because of the age of the place. Needs remodeling in the rooms.
The beach was fantastic...great soft sand...cleaned up every morning...warm water...shallow beach areas...lots of lounge chairs, never an issue getting one...pull it out into the sun, or leave it under the palm trees to enjoy the warm breeze and cool shade. Lots of room in the pool, as very few people use it...nice warm water. Pool is right by the wet bar and food bar. Food almost always available...ie hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, along with other goodies including fruits/vegetables, soup. Unfortunately the smoothies or fruit drinks only had fresh bananas....I did not see any other fresh fruit being put into drinks, it was all out of "flavour" bottles. Couldn't even get a fresh lemonade or limonade. In the buffet restaurant, Mexican food was served every day which was fantastic....however, out of the 8 days we spent here, only on 2 days did they serve tortillas....figure that?? Tortillas filled with Mexican food is fantastic....plus tortillas have got to be the cheapest thing to supply....what's up? Our room was ok, nothing special, we got used to it. Was very clean. Again, really tight on bottled water. There was one in our fridge when we arrived...rest of the week I had to steal a couple off the cleaning carts so that I would have bottles to refill with water from the bar. They refused to leave refills in the room! Nuts! It was nice and quiet, even tho our room was right beside the pool/bar area. Take a ground floor room, so you can sit outside. Other rooms on other levels don't have enough room on the deck for a chair. Service at buffet was average...some great...some not so great. Breakfast was fantastic....omellets, fried eggs made fresh on a flattop...add whatever you want. Desserts were the biggest failure....they all looked fantastic, but none had much flavour if any. Had ice cream or sorbet instead every night, which was good. Starbucks is a short walk from the hotel...just take a left when walking out the front of the hotel. Just past the small market on the far side of the street a few blocks up. Taxi ride to downtown 5th ave where all the touristy stores are was $6 total for the both of us, and the same coming back. Was surprised by lack of Mexican eating places along 5th ave. Was looking for basic tacos, beans and rice, but hard to find. Ask around. We finally found one, and no exageration, the taco they served me had a tortilla the size of a dollar pancake! What a joke! Overall, we enjoyed our time there...very relaxing...didn't try the a la carte restaurants as all the food comes out of the same kitchen, so we did not expect it to be any different, plus we hate making appointments. Food at buffet was great. Pasta was always a bit chewy, never quite got it to eldante. The entire place was well kept and clean. Would go back.
Small resort that has all you need
Beach location and access very nice. Staff very accommodating, especially Gerardo in dinning and Daniel in sports. Buffet food and choices good. A la cate restaurants excellent. Quiet and cozy resort with every thing within easy reach. Dont need a shuttle to the beach or buffet, like at the Mega resorts. Hotel lobby and facilities good for the price point. Rooms clean and Ok, but beds and interior a little dated. Great for a nice getaway, without being trampled on like at the Mega resorts. If you needed more action, disco and additional activities available at the Sister resort, 8 minute walk. Resort in a double gated golf course subdivision that is safe to walk about anytime. Charming small mall a 5 minute walk on the way to the sister resort. Playa 5th Ave shopping or ferry to Cozumel, $7-8 taxi ride away. Ferry ride to Cozumel island $8 each way, and a must do, if just for the ferry ride itself. Some kid activities here, but it appeared the sister resort Maya had more to offer the young ones. Restaurants and sail boats need reservations early in the day. Bicycles, kayaks, paddle boards, etc available anytime. Didn't use gym, spa, tennis courts, tours service, massage, doctor, etc etc., but was there if needed. No waiter drink service at pool or beach, but pool bar, snack bar, and self service sodas steps away from beach. Every thing is close by. Great staff and safe location, on large beach is all we needed. For the price, highly recommend !!!
New Years Get a way
Great atmosphere, Great beach, enjoyed the Fresa margarita and the Fresa Colada. YUM
Food at the Buffet was a little bland for my liking, the fruit was amazing. Forgot how tasty watermelon with seeds was compared to the seedless, tasteless modified crap we get at home. recommend going to the grill for eggs in the morning.
we tried most of the a la cartes, which were for the most part great. The mexican one at the Wyndyam Maya was fantastic.
Cannot say enough great things about that beach.
Rooms were good, the staff was fantastic. My fridge was refilled every morning.
This resort caters to Europeans, mainly Germans, and they like to smoke, so if you are one of those who are offended by second hand smoke maybe go to a resort that is "smoke free". I wasn't bothered, or chose to not let it bother me, as I already knew there would be smokers there when I booked.
My only complaint was I had to go home..
My recommendation BACON!!!!!!!!!!! not a slice to be found all week.
