Apple Vacations Traveller Reviews
We had a wonderful trip. The resort is small, not crowded at all. Always found lounge chairs on the beach. The beach was beautiful and clean. Buffet was good and always clean. Two things we were not completely satisfied with were the amount of people walking through the beach on the resort trying to sell things. It was a constant stream of them. The dinner reservations, we were only only allowed to make reservations for 2 of our 4 nights. Not a very good service. When we did go in the restaurants were empty, so not sure why they wouldn't take more reservations. Unless to keep their costs down. The food and service at the restaurants were excellent.
Viva Wyndham Azteca
The only 2 "complaints" I have are VERY minor - - - (1) it was a bit challenging to regulate the room temperature. While it was a comfortable temperature, the humidity tended to be a bit higher than we'd have liked. That may have been due to the first floor room, however. (2) It would have been nice to have more seats around the pool, as by the time the pool opened at 8am, they would be already full. Otherwise, the trip was absolutely AMAZING. :)
Viva Wyndham Azteca 4/2017
Very comfortable beds, but sham pillows outnumber real pillows; as for more. Buffet restaurant good - but for Mexico where the ancients drank chocolate - there is almost no chocolate on the dessert bar :-( . Hotel is kept very clean and gardens are continually maintained. Lovely breeze on the beach and there are lots of chaises under palm trees for shade. People do reserve the chaises around the pool, but even if there were twice as many chairs, I suspect the situation would be the same. Unfortunately, for those who need to monitor their children in the pool, there are not too many options. I was actually thinking that it would be useful to have ones own transportable folding chair, perhaps there is somewhere to buy one in the area. There is a gift shop to purchase souvenirs, goggles, sunscreen, etc. The rooms are air conditioned, and the public spaces have a nice breeze and didn't need it (we went in April). Do not get a room by the bar unless you stay up late, due to the loud music. Kayaking on the ocean was fun, and one of the guys will take you out on one of the catamarans (both free). We did not go to any of the specialty restaurants, so I have no tips/opinion to provide.
Viva Wyndham Azteca
This is an older facility with simple room furnishings however service is excellent!
two hotels for the price of one
Stayed at the Aztecia but was able to use the facilities at Maya. Beach was beautiful at both resorts.
Best Beach Vacation
The Viva Wyndham Azteca in Playa del Carmen is the best all-inclusive we have stayed in on the Riviera Maya Mexico. The size of the hotel allows the staff to get to know you and your wishes immediately. The staff was amazing. We were amazed at the beach and never had a problem finding an unoccupied lounge chair to our liking. The specialty restaurants were by reservation only, and although our stay length only allowed us two reservations immediately, we were able to visit the reservation desk each afternoon and get an available spot at one of the restaurants for that evening. Being able to eat at both the Azteca and the Maya gave us six different restaurants to chose from. It would be difficult to decide which of the four was our favorite because we enjoyed great meals and service at all of them. We will definitely return to this wonderful hotel.
Average Hotel not quite a resort.
Not much to do, no air conditioned space other than you room. The proximity to town was a plus. I've stayed at more than 12 resorts in Playa del Carmen and this one was second from the worst.
Not the best experience
We have certainly stayed at much nicer resorts in Mexico. This resort met minimum requirements. Very family orientated, with absolutely nothing to entertain adults. Food was acceptable, but nothing to brag about. Bartenders were excellent. Beach was gorgeous. Don't spend money on wifi service, don't expect soap or bottled water.
My resort was excellent. It was my first all-inclusive and I was very pleased. Everything was great. I started getting sick of the food towards the end but, I feel like that is a common thing with resorts. Overall though, five stars.
Apple Rep in Playacar
Rep was great at arranging things in the schedule to accommodate us.
We always found something to eat, but at the buffet for dinner there was hardly any fresh meat. No carving station with beef, pork, duck, turkey. Every night was the same things, usually with some kind of sliced beef in gravy for your meat. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and pizza were served for dinners.

We stayed there for two weeks and we can't complain about anything.
The hotel is clean, our room was always made carefully. They even put some special kind of bugspray once a week or so that the room will stay bug free, no mosquio bites too.
They have good food for breakfast/ lunch/ dinner, and also the a la cart restaurants are delicious, they say you have to book one week before but if you're late and you ask they will usually find a place for you. The staff is always very friendly and try their best.
The beach is a dream, although there's seaweed (I don't know if it's there all year but I guess not) you'll find a nice place under the palm trees to get some shade.
It's 20 minutes away from 5th avenue by feet and 5 minutes with taxi for 90 pesos.
All in all we would recommend this hotel to anyone. You can have fun, hang out and relax.
Visited this resort last week and was thoroughly impressed with the service and quality of the resort. The beach had appropriate shade and was clean. The staff was super friendly and on top of everything. Lots of excursions and I strongly recommend Xcaret (Eco park), book this excursion on the plane if possible as through the resort it is quite pricey.
Best place ever!!!
A huge thank you to the staff at the Viva Wyndham Azteca!!! We had a wonderful vacation! The very best of weather, amazing variety of food! All delicious and fresh! We never tired of the buffet as there was always something new to try! The alacarte options were wonderful! Even got to try the sister resort a short walking distance from our hotel. We felt totally safe and were truly catered to. The staff were so hard working and pleasant. The ocean was warm and wonderful!!! Thank you to everyone who made our trip so wonderful. We will definitely be back for another vacation 😁
This is my second review of Viva Azteca. Still love the hotel and location of it but I was slightly disappointed . The animation team did not display much enthusiasm like in prior visits but they were vindicated with their Game Show performance. Manuel, the bald older but sexy guy, and the dark skinned male with long hair put effort into the show some of the others just went through the motions. Oooh almost forgot the Italian animation guy, he also put effort into his performance. I feel that the quality of the buffet food went down, however, we were impressed with the service provided by Samuel. The food from the pool side bar is great loved the burgers and spring rolls. People at the front desk were rude as usual as well as the guy giving out the burgers at the pool side bar, and the guy handing out the kayaks (the guy handing out the kayaks at the beach was the same guy that played the husband in Maria Maria on gameshow night on 06 Sep 17. Lastly, Manuel at the front desk/bell boy would go out of his way to provide you with assistance . The last review in 2016 I gave it 4/5 this time 3/5. Love the playacar area might try another hotel visit next time.
Italian or Mexican?
We always travel to Mayan riviera because we loved it so much! this time we wanted to try the "Viva" resorts, but we couldn`t figure out if it was mosly for Mexicans or Italians, we liked it because it`s a very small resort that has everything, we liked the food, buffet was always wonderfull! the service and staff regular...
Things we didn`t like was the gym is too petite! not enough space to mover around, which is quite dangerous because you need certain space between the areas and equipment is like one os the basic rules in every gym!
Ths kids club was ok, but they have a mini mini pool outside which hmm don`t think many kids can fit there, we liked the activities they have but it`s too repetitive! like every monday kayak, every tuesday nutella, every wednsday party etc etc.
The shows are OKEY, the only thing that kinda bothers is that we are such a fan of the night shows but there was a group sitting next to us, we became friends and they told us they had already seen a certain show from the viva azteca in another resort, the show of celebrities... we didn`t believe it but they showed us the same dance but different costumes on a youtube video.
So we are bothered by that fact and we wonder if you have the same coreographer or they have been passing eachother the same dances to not be creative enough. I know it`s not your fault, but need to ask and enterview better your staff.
We appreciate that the same entertainment staff that is working all day and afternoon are also the dancers! I`m just wondering if you are paying them enough to keep them motivated, cause I wouldn`t work 12 hrs straight and dance for a small amount of money.
We thank everyone for the service and attention, but would like if they would greet more and be happy when they recieve more non Italian guests, it seems they give some prefference to the Italians.
