I was concerned about staying at the Radisson Blu because quite frankly I am not a big fan of Radisson Blu. Whenever I think about it, the image of a 50 years old man with a boring marriage to a much younger wife full of demands comes to mind. So I was quite happy to learn that Radisson Blue in Rome is much more contemporary and with different types of guests. The best part about it is the location: it is one block away from the main train station in Rome and also the subway. I was able to go anywhere without taking much time - which is always good during a trip. However, two things bothered me a lot. My room had two separate beds, which of course means (and the hotel surely can predict it) that I wasn't with anyone I would take showers with. I was with my mother, in fact. But that didn't stop the interior designer to think it would be a swell idea to have on glass door through which anyone can see you showering. Come on, it doesn't take a genius to understand this is not contemporary, hype or cool: it's just plain stupid. The other thing that bothered me a lot was the reading light by the bed. It worked fine, but I could not lean on anything to read. The reason? No headboard. There was one, but it couldn't be fixed in its place because the reading light wire was in the way. Again: it doesn't take a genius to make it work! (The headboard, I should explain, is attached to a wooden panel behind both beds). The verdict: you can stay there and it will be great (you'll even get 30 minutes for free at the SPA!), but be sure to ask about the room shower and conditions. They are usually fully booked, from what I've seen, so getting another room might be tricky.

We chose this hotel for our 6 night's in Rome honeymoon. It was very handy to find, and check in was fine, nothing bad to say but could have been warmer. Lobby was spacious and kind of weird looking. Reception desks v cheap looking. Cool dark hallways, something I've seen before, room looked nice but small. V flimsy fixtures, bedside lamps broken and wonky. Bed was lovely and comfy. Bathroom n shower separate, spots of mould in shower. Yuk. Ate in poolside restaurant as we arrived late, nice but v expensive. Breakfast great, loads of variety and tasty. Got a great massage in spa. Pool needed some maintenance but nice and peaceful with towels supplied. All wait staff were really nice and service v efficient. Chose this modern hotel as I didn't want to stay in an ancient tumbledown hotel but some of the decay already evident here was very disheartening. I daresay this hotel will need to spruce up massively to be considered a 4 star. at least the staff were 5 star!

We've been here for two hours - apparently the door to our room needs to be coaxed open...but has required divine intervention by a long suffering maintenance bloke on the two occasions we needed to get in. One touch service on the phone re restaurants is directed to Marco the long suffering room service bloke who doesn't do bookings - he does club sandwiches. Zest Bar on the roof looks terrific but service is a bit lacking - getting a beer and a valium, and later the bill was tricky - the only devoted attention was from the plentiful insects. Ah the rooms - renovation in progress it seems to remove the shower and toilet as room centrepieces - pity getting in is a challenge. Our room is apparently renovated - sort of. Hallways are reminiscent of Lubyanka in its heyday. I could be a stylish hotel but that would take a bit of work! One pleasant and obviously tortured reception staff member made a booking with a local restaurant - I'm on my knees hoping for a drink and a decent meal before resuming the challenge of the Radisson.

I would like to point out that my husband and i had stayed in a few Radisson hotels before so we were disappointed that this hotel did not live up to that standard as far as we are concerned. Though we understand what renovation means in a hotel, we certainly would have appreciated if we were apprised of that fact before hand...before accepting our reservation in fact. It is only the polite thing to do! We were really looking forward to a relaxing holiday. Instead we had to deal with messy corridors, workmen here and there, absent room service menus, not up-to-par coffee machines, difficult to sort out light switches, etc. etc. moreover, it is a shame that a top hotel like this should be serving instant coffee for breakfast.

On reading some of the recent reviews I am wondering whether my recent stay in Rome was at the same hotel. All of the hotel staff were courteous and helpful, the standard room I occupied, with my husband, was clean and the bed very comfortable. There was a good choice on the breakfast menu and evening meals in the Zest Bar were also excellent , bar staff were extremely nice. I never once felt threatened when out walking in the vicinity of the hotel. The location of hotel next to the station makes getting to and from the airport a breeze, trains are every thirty minutes.The staff on the main reception were very charming when checking in and out of the hotel . On the whole I had a wonderful stay, echoed by my husband, in a beautiful city.
