Relaxing week at the beach

We wanted a week away from the city and decided to revisit the Hapuna Beach Prince. We last stayed here when it was first opened 20 years ago. The hotel is a great place to do nothing and enjoy the pool and beach. Hotel - The hotel is very large. The week we were there it was not busy and we were happy to have the place almost to ourselves. We opted to self park as it was cheaper than valet and did not mind the long walk to the room. The management company has deferred a considerable amount of maintenance and it is starting to show. While the wear is showing, everything was clean and the grounds are beautiful. Room - Our room was in building 3. This is a long walk from the lobby but it had a great view of the beach and ocean. We like listening to the ocean at night. Very easy access to the beach and pool. The room was clean and everything worked perfectly. The furniture and carpet were shop very worn but functional. The TV is a Sony Wega about 20+ years old. Internet access was easy and it worked fine. There were plenty of really nice towels and the mattress and bed linen were fine. If you want towel refresh in the evening, call housekeeping. The refrigerator in our room worked fine and so did the dual cup coffee maker. Two people can get ready in the bathroom. It needed a refresh. but was clean. Dining - We had the breakfast buffet and thought it was very good. We ate in the restaurant once for dinner and enjoyed it. The prices are typical for resort dining with an excellent ocean view. The cushions on the chairs in all dining venues need to be replaced. Pool and Beach - In the summer, the beach is usually nice for all water activities. When we were there, the surf was up and we spent most of time at the pool. The hotel provides chairs and umbrellas at the beach at no charge. The pool needs to be redone (new deck surface - new chairs) but is very nice. It is only four feet deep. The hot tub works and is HOT. Service - We found the staff to be very helpful. They treated us with dignity and respect at all times. There were times that we found understaffing but no waits that we found too long. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. It was restful and relaxing. We rented a car so we ate dinner at off site properties.
