The 'yellow' buildings (I believe in the 500s) are fabulous! The swim up suites / beach ocean view are not nearly as nice as the rooms in the yellow buildings. We were 'upgraded' to 2nd floor ocean view and immediately moved back to the original room (again, yellow building). Food is fair, service could be better. The pool had leaves and bird feathers daily, they need to clean that overnight or early AM. The 'beach' is very rocky and the water smells (October). We've been to secrets before and LOVE them but would not recommend or return to this one.

Checking in was very poor. We got there at noon and our room was not ready till 4 pm. We went to eat at Oceana while we waited and it took forever to get our food. Several restraints were closed and when we ask for lobster it cost us $40.00.

Beautiful view and room, but drinks were lacking

The hotel bars needed a drink menu so guests would have options of tropical drinks and not trying to think of ones on their own. Most of my fruity drinks seemed watered down and not very flavorful and my soda was flat.

Great Resort, Tropical storms are no good, sometimes so are the doors

Upon entering the hotel lobby we were greeted with champagne and cold towels. They guy at the front desk was very nice and even upgraded us to the preferred section at no additional cost. That day we went down to the beach but realized we needed to get back in to the room. I walked back to our room and the key card did not work. I tried the second card and still no go. I walked up to the front lobby and they reset it. Unfortunately same thing happen, the door wouldn't register the card. We went back and forth numerous times and each time the lobby said security would meet us at the room. Security never showed, I asked a guy with walky talky to page security for me and he told me when need to go to the preferred lobby since we were in the preferred section. We did that, and wallah! it worked. It would have been nice to hours before. Other than that the hotel and rooms were nice. Our A/C was very loud and the roof leaked but that only happened when the tropical storm rolled through. All-in-all I would recommend this resort to friends. It was nice and quiet and they always had things going on. Look for GEO if you go there, he is a great guy and tons of fun. The last thing I would recommend the resort do is give guests a list of what stuff around the resort is free, i.e. 2 hour snorkeling and 30 minute kayaks. Other than that the food was good and it was a great week away from responsibility.

Seven Nights

We booked as Preffered guests staying in room 1415. Preferred boils down to the best room locations. Our tub didn't work. The shower never got warm. No matter the tip amount for housekeeping or mini fridge, it was all the same standard service. The food at Bordeaux and room service was our favorite. The pools were fantastic, bar service was great. Massages at Pevonia Spa were amazing. Keeping all this in mind, our vacation was taken toward the end of the busy season. I understand the natural environment is going to deteriorate the hotel and cause some issues with humidity in the room, cracks in the walls etc... There was ONE night I lost my mind. Mosquito night. Not the resorts fault. My husband did not have pants and was refused seating in Bordeaux. Windows was full. Leaving us to eat in our rooms. THAT'S something the resort could have overlooked. Everyone was getting up to leave Oceana and get away from the mosquitoes. Throughout our stay were sought after by a time-share guy, that actually cornered us while checking in in the Preffered Lounge. The beds were great, lots of room, great views. Overall, our vacation is what we make of it and I enjoyed more if it than not.

Our Wait Staff

Aug 20 2017
We had the best wait staff after the second day Sergio and Mario knew that I wanted a Bloody Mary and my sister wanted coffee. they were very attentive to us and others around us. Always asking if there was anything else we needed. Happy smiles and glad to see their people for the day. Karina and Monse were also very helpful to us. The only part we did not appreciate was from the front table Spa section or Shark Tank as we call them. Very pushy about the spa incentive of getting 150.00 to spend. that s nice but we spent more than that to get there for sun and relaxation in the ocean and thats exactly what we wanted to do. She wouldn't take NO for an answer till we finally walked away.

Not what we expected
JOHN E.
Aug 04 2017
When we arrived we were very disappointed, we were told we were upgraded to the premier section and thought it was going to be an upgrade but we went from an ocean view room to a pool view room. The overall resort was older and more run down than we expected. The place was dirty with glasses all over the place and trash was not picked up. The next day that part was a little better but the attitudes of the staff was not good. The service at the restaurants was bad and if you were on the beach and someone did come around and ask if you wanted something to drink it would be around 30-45 min before you would get your drink back and it was either melted or the wrong drink when you did get it. Drinks were very light on alcohol and the whole thing about being in the premier section was supposed to be about the premium liquor. The only thing that would make me want to come back to secrets Aura would be the beach and water those were the only thing that were amazing and for the price we paid I would have expected a ton more from this place. We have gone to Secrets maroma and Puerto Vallarta and both of those were 10's all the way around.

Disappointed
CHRISTOPHER K.
Jul 25 2017
A little disappointed in our stay at Aura Cozumel. We have never stayed at a Secrets before, we have been to Sandals. Our friends we were traveling with have stayed with Secrets and spoke very highly of riviera maya resorts. We were very disappointed in staff at restaurants and bars, no one was eager to serve us, even when we tipped ahead of time (and tipping is not necessary). Mixed drinks were not top shelf unless you asked for it. When I did ask for Captain Morgan I was told I could not have it because I was not a preferred guest. Mixed drinks tasted more like the mix than the alcohol. Stuck with beer to get the alcohol. Even in restaurants the staff was not real quick to serve, some didn't even ask for drink order, went right to meal order and didn't realize we hadn't even ordered drinks. Would have liked more indoor restaurant options since we were there in July and it was very hot and sticky. Maintenance around resort was so so. Pools were worn and needed fixed in several places. Our room was decent, but ceiling in bathroom was coming down, looked as if mirror was holding one side of ceiling up. Room was very dark, not many lighting options, and one lamp light bulb went out Day 2 and never replaced. Shuttle service from Secrets back to airport seemed confusing and chaotic for staff. Now food was excellent at Secrets and Sunscape. We did have Marco at DaMario's at Sunscape and he was wonderful! The only restaurant we went back to because we loved his service. Oh, and one thing we found really awkward was porn on the tv. Maybe that's normal for Secrets?

Our initial room was horrible: poor furniture, dirty tub, A/C not working, mini refrigerator leaking onto floor, shower leaked onto floor also. The room needed a lot of tlc. Carlos the manager was rude & not helpful, Cynthia was great & switched us to a wonderful room #1122. We were very happy with her & her service!

First of all let me say, I have stayed at other Secret Resorts so I will compare. Will I recommend it NO, Free yes..This Secrets Azura needs to visit other Secrets in Mexico and see what they are doing and they are not. I was preferred so I was in the yellow building we will call them with construction out my door. I immediately went to the office and Nelly handled it immediately. I was travelling with friends so we all wanted to be together. We had to change rooms again and went to the orange and white building facing the ocean. So two days of waiting and moving started our vacation. The service at El Patio (Mexican) was excellent, as well as Bourdeau portions are small so double order everything here..Not sure why you have to get dressed long pants for men because there was nothing fancy or high end at this resort. Windows and Ocean had their good days and bad days. Food was ok in the buffets. At the Seaside the waiters should know what is on the menu very confused. I'm gluten so I had to ask everyday for something bread or muffin. Kind of annoying to me. They have gluten free menus at all the restaurants which are clearly marked. Room service (Aaron) who took your order was great, but if anyone else took your order you will either not get your breakfast or get something you did not order. In the room preferred you had a mini bar with Pringles as well as M&M, beers water, soda juice. They will give you a bottle of tequila but the second room I went in had an open bottle, which I feel is risky due to who knows who was in there before. The grounds were clean but the smell from the hotel and ocean is just unbearable, it stinks. The building could use some cleaning for it looks like there is mildew on the balconies of some of the ocean view units. The ocean is rocky so wear your water shoes. The pools are clean. The beach bartenders and waitresses were wonderful and always had a drink in my hand. NO Straws for those frozen drinks, I don't get that. The activities are ok Martha and Winne the Pooh are doing their best . The entertainment at other Secrets is wonderful, here kind of a talent show type. Safe resort as well as the island. The vendors that come at night are ridiculously prices...Get your souvenirs at the airport, they have great prices as well as quality. If you go into town get pesos then your cab its cheaper. or rent a jeep for $135 totally coverage and drive, its one road, Beaches are 10 minutes away saint martin

We have been to Cozumel many times and always stay at Secrets Aura. Our check-in was chaotic and very slow. We arrived at 1:30 and got into our room at 5:00. We were on the 3rd floor of a building that had construction right behind hit so you heard hammering all day long. Because the 3rd floor doesn't have a covered balcony we were unable to sit on the patio during rain, which it rained almost every day we were there. They did move us to the 2nd level the following day. The food was less than desirable. Little tiny portions in the restaurants and the Market Café is closed for renovation so you had to go to Sun Scape to get the buffet which was not much better than the restaurants. We asked for a late check out on our last day and they said no. As a customer of Unlimited Vacation Club we are supposed to be guaranteed a late checkout but they didn't seem to care. The maid service was the worst it has ever been. For 2 days straight they never cleaned our room even though the do not disturb sign was not up. Can't figure out why they wouldn't have cleaned. Who knows. I just didn't find the help very helpful this time. Except Isabel Garcia at the preferred pool. She is great. Always is every time we visit. We love her and she is probably one of the reasons we continue to return. I will really have to think about coming back again though. I even heard a UVC staff member tell a couple that the Secrets Aura was known as the ugly duckling of the Secrets resorts. That really didn't make me feel very good about the stay.

Girls Trip

We did a girls trip (5 of us) Oct 12-16 2017 and had a great time. Staff was so friendly, rooms were clean and food was very tasteful. No problem with alcohol. Plenty to drink. Sky Bar was really nice along with the beautiful sunset. If you want to go to a restaurant off the beaten path have a taxi take you to Coconuts. Get the Big Shrimp dinner. It was sooo good and staff, atmosphere really authentic. Open outside restaurant with beautiful views. That side of Cozumel doesn’t have electricity but please don’t let that stop you or you will miss out on some beautiful sites and some very nice people. Our group of all women had a wonderful time. Would definitely go back. Just for the record this was not my first resort. Been to Sandals many times. Just remember the whole purpose of a vacation is to step out of your box, try something new and always have an open mind if not you’ll miss out on some great adventures.

Good snorkeling from the beach
Steven B, San Antonio, Texas
Sun Nov 19 15:51:46 EST 2017
The best things I can say about this resort is the staff was excellent and there was good snorkeling from the beach. I would strongly advise anyone considering this resort read the trip advisor reviews. We have stayed at several Secrets and have always wanted to go back; this will be the first time we won’t be planning a return trip since we were very disappointed. Here are a few recommendations: ask for a room with a dehumidifier; ask if the room has a dresser or some place to put your clothes; check out the Bordeaux and Patio restaurants; enjoy a coffee at the Coco cafe; either go scuba diving or snorkeling. The best food is located at Sunscape which is where you have to eat anyway. The beach is not kid friendly at Sunscape, so there were very few children. According to the other folks we talked to, the rooms were fine at Sunscape, they had no complaints, and it was a fraction of the cost. Clearly, Sunscape was the better choice in this case. The 200.00 resort credit they claim to offer, isn’t exactly true. You can redeem 40.00 toward a 200.00 massage, or towards a 300.00 romantic dinner on the beach. They actually have better deals offered everyday, and you aren’t allowed to use your coupons. By all means, avoid Claudia at check-in, she is a high pressured sales person for the Preferred club.

Three different rooms in 2 days--unaccpetable

First room smelled like sewer, we were moved to another room that was booked the next day so we had to move our stuff into our friend's room until the 3rd room was cleaned. We got 1514, the room that's on Youtube, so the room is beat. Furniture has been painted blue, small TV, jacuzzi didn't work and had a divot in the bottom and the faucet was missing. Maid service varied from day to day. We got our robes the last day of the week we stayed there, the maids don't know what washcloths are and I only got one bottle of conditioner but many bottles of lotion. Some days we didn't get towels and had to ask. We had a leak in the bathroom one day, my husband almost slipped and fell. Next day there was a puddle of water outside our door leaking from a service access door in the corner. One day the pool 4 floors up was leaking. The buffet was closed at Aura but we were able to hike the almost mile to the neighboring facility to use that buffet. One of the few restaurants were closed during the week for conservation purposes only. Loud, drunk body builder types were at the preferred pool where we should have been but chose not to go. I would not go back to this resort.
