A restful stay

Housekeeping was exceptional. Activities staff were excellent. Mostly no reservations at restaurants was good. Food was iffy. Sometimes it was excellent; other times it was just OK. My only caution is to NOT go to the time-share presentation--regardless of what they offer. Their 90 min presentation is really about 2.5 hours and they will not take "no" for an answer.

Perfection in Every Aspect

The hotel was absolutely amazing; from the staff friendliness to accomodations to the food and beach. Everything was perfect. The only thing I can say is do not feel pressured to attend the "only 90 minute breakfast" scheme they try to pull. They are trying to sell you on timeshares and it lasts much longer than 90 minutes. We didn't fall for it but we saw others who did. Your vacation time is very limited, spend the time doing what you want to do, the "gifts" for attending are not worth it.

The checking was horrible. We waited hours to get a room. The. They gave us a swimout next door to all the construction. Dust, jackhammers, yelling from the workmaen. I had to call and ask for another room. Don't ever book an early flight to this hotel. Then they tried too sell us a "membership" time share. Never again.

Having stayed at several other Secrets hotels, we decided to choose this Miramar. Our biggest problem, which we never had at any of the others, is that Apple booked us on a flight arriving at 9:15 a.m. and they did not have a room ready until 3:15. We are aware check in is at 3:00 but we couldn't help when our flight was and I would think that the Secrets Maroma could have accommodated better--the others have to having a room ready to telling us to go eat and then one would be ready. They gave us a pager, but the pager did not work. The girl at the front desk was brief and almost rude. We just kept hearing check in is not until 3:00 --which it was 3:15 before we were shown to our room. We have enjoyed having day 1 be part of our vacation--day 1 this time was a complete aggravation. We were not met with cool washcloths or champagne as we had been at other Secrets in Riveria Maya and then they were offered as we were leaving the front desk area. Our Apple Representative had no idea when our return car to the airport would be, we had to talk with another rep who wasn't there right then. It has always seemed like a well-oiled machine that we have enjoyed for a quick getaway. This was frustration from the beginning--even breakfast was a wait for coffee every day and when asking for cream we were given some flavor kind and we had to wait and ask again. So not even the wait staff seemed up to par. We told them we were there for our anniversary yet no anniversary banner was on the door like others--a little thing but one more lack of attention to detail. The speaker in the bathroom didn't work--always enjoy music as we get ready for the evening. Just not up to what we expect from a Secrets hotel from our other experiences!!!

It was overall an excellent trip. The only complaints that I have is that the hot water in the room never got hot. The concierge had someone work on it and it work tolerably for one evening, but the next day it again would not get comfortably warm. The other complaint that I have is that service and food at the French Restaurant was terrible. We waited over 30 minutes to be seated. When we finally got seated the waiter was very slow in bringing bread and taking our orders and then other people who came in after us were served their meals at least 10 minutes before us. We had good service at the Italian restaurant and Excellent service at the Japanese Restaurant. Additionally the breakfast buffet was excellent and the service at all bars were excellent. Overall the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The evening entertainment was okay, but nothing special.

We would like to first thank our Travel Agent for helping us make a decision. After all there are so many hotels to choose from in this area. There was construction going on but nothing that harmed the comfort of our stay. Check in process was smooth but we got passed off a few times to the internal salesman that were working us to look into a VIP timeshare investment which we did not know until the next day when we agreed to hear them out. I think this is something they wait to do until guests have completed their stay instead of when they first arrived. Other than that we loved the food, the bartenders, service staff, were so happy to help you with anything you needed. After a couple days I started tipping because I can't imagine working in that heat! Our room was beautiful and clean - probably the nicest room I have ever stayed in (so far in my life). We enjoyed the entertainment which we tried to attend nightly if it peaked our interest. The pools were clean and well maintained. The restaurants were far beyond my expectations of what an all inclusive resort offered. It felt like you were in a different place in each restaurant. The only thing we neglected was packing my husband PANTS for them so we had to sit outside due to dress code. Our flights were smooth nothing out of the ordinary. The transports were great in taking us to and from where we needed to go and got there safe. All in all we loved the resort and our stay at the Secrets Maroma.

Very frustrating that Apple insisted on picking up us 4 hours before our scheduled departure and refused to pick up us later. Also frustrating that the resort was fixing the roof right above our room for three of our six days and we as very loud and disturbing.

Ok, listen to me because, I know now the best of Secrets with only a couple of small negatives which really didn't matter. From the minute you walk on the property, you are treated special and everyone just goes out of their way. We were a young couple in our 30's and wanted a resort that had no kids or college crap...(although I do love kids and like to day drink into the night) its just nice to have the more calm laid back environment of this adult all inclusive. I chose not to upgrade my room from partial ocean view knowing I would have a front row seat of the ocean all day lol..lounging around with my wife getting drinks and food brought to us on the beach...never had that kind of service before. Everyone we met were friendly and of course happy...except for the loser that wanted some american music played at the bar one night because he was a stupid hillbilly who somehow was granted access to secrets...stay in alabama....or tennessee if you want to hear journey..you know who you are ...ok that was the only negative of the trip..Listen to the warnings of the other reviews because its true you are bombarded with the opportunity to join the vacation club at secrets...only 90 min...lol..i talked to a couple who said it took 3-4 hours and they harassed you to the very end just to get a romantic dinner for two for free...I mean I would love to do it if I was loaded and could afford 8 vacations a year otherwise...waste of time and I am soo glad I lied to my initial concierge guy about going like he lied to me about no pressure 90 min experience....just don't do it...The resort has all you need in a week and we only went on 1 excursion to xplor....the zip line and jeep and cenote experience which I totally suggest...otherwise just stay at the resort and enjoy all it has to offer...its awesome and we are scared to actually venture to any other resort that is not secrets ...we might try but to tell you the truth, I just don't know if it gets better..I really have nothing negative to say other than that loser comment but I imagine there is always a loser who doesn't belong everywhere you go...so other than the initial sales pressure...loved this trip...better than any vacation i have been on from the 8 cruises and multiple beach experiences in my life....do this one and you won't regret it. Our video will be up soon on you tube.. check under secrets maroma....ken/eva

Not 5-Stars - More like a 3 1/2 to 4 Stars

After reading the reviews for Secrets Maroma Beach, I think maybe my expectations were high because I definitely didn't think this was a 5-star hotel. Our visit was from Visited Oct 31 - Nov 7, 2017. Customer Service: I do give high points for customer service. All employees (the wait staff, receptionist at check-in/out, concierge, etc.) were always respectful and attentive. All of the staff's English here was exceptional. Though I adore the Mexican culture and would have at least liked to be greeted in Spanish. Sounds a little odd, I know. Beach: Playa Maroma is just beautiful. The sand is powder soft and no rocks anywhere. You can jump in the ocean without the worry of stubbing your toe. The time we were there, we never had trouble finding chairs. There were plenty of waiters to bring you fresh drinks and lunch. Rooms: We had a junior suite swimout. This is where I am deducting points. The rooms were average (though it appears the hotel is remodeling many of the rooms). Our room seemed a little dated - definitely nothing special about the room itself. The bed was sunk in. We had the swimout room and enjoyed it very much in the late afternoon when we wanted to get away from other people. Even though about 6-8 rooms had access to the smaller pool, it seemed we were the only two to use it - it was like having our own private pool. Maid service was awesome. Restaurants: This is where the hotel is definitely lacking and they need to revamp the menus or recipes or something. We ate at the Italian, French, Mexican, Seafood, Japanese, and Habachi restaurants. My favorites were the Japanese and Habachi. The rest were just average and somewhat bland. Secrets Maroma should learn from their sister hotel Secrets the Vine and maybe steal some of their recipes and menus. The plus side is you never need to make reservations for the restaurants in advance. My husband's favorite was the brick oven pizza for lunch near the pool. Breakfast/lunch buffet has a very basic selection. Hotel Grounds/Decor/Pool: I enjoyed the hotel grounds. It was very zen like and landscaped beautifully. Decor in the lobby and restaurants was a bit dated but always clean. Pool was very nice. There is swim up bar and bathrooms at the pool/beach were exceptionally clean. Timeshare: As soon as you check in they ship you to a sales guy wanting you to do the timeshare presentation (though it isn't called a timeshare these days). We politely declined twice and then he freed us without bothering us again which was nice. All and all, the staff is great, the hotel is clean, the beach is beautiful but I think for the price, there are much nicer hotels with better food and rooms. I just wasn't wowed.

A week on the best beach in Cancun area!

We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach from Nov 11 to Nov 18, 2017, with its beautifully manicured beach from constant care of the fantastic, soft, white sand. Can't do anything about the weather, thunderstorm one night, rain most of the next day, but, pretty much perfect the rest of the time with 82 degrees every day. Staff was very good. Everyone, even the gardeners, greet you in passing. I believe that a good or bad (indifferent) staff will make or break a resort. I will return or not return because of it! Robert, our concierge, just couldn't have been better! Not only does he call you by name when he sees you (I don't know how he remembers everyone with so many passing through the days), he is always available to solve any problems and give information you might have missed! Without him, we would not have known we could have breakfast every day at the Oceana Restaurant where we met Alba, a hostess, who also has a great memory, and Alberto and Carlos, our great waiters. They, too, have great memories about your likes and dislikes, and are sure to make sure you have everything you want! Brandon, pool concierge, was helpful making sure your lounge bed was made and your umbrella was strategically placed against the sun's rays if needed. Lucas made sure your thirst was cared for! A couple of waitresses at the Lobby Bar that need to be applauded are Zacnicte and Neydi. Again, very astute as to your needs, and always with a big smile. I did feel that there could be more lighting on the paths at night. Although they are wide and smooth without areas that could be unsafe, they were a bit dark in some areas. I have had both knees replaced and hips are next so must be a bit more careful! We had Preferred Club service, but out room was across the resort from the Club room with more walking. I know it would be difficult to provide transportation within the resort, but it WOULD make it easier!!! Our maid service was flawless; however, the beds are a bit hard and also very high and difficult to get into!! Entertainment was good. We didn't really enjoy the Rock Show. I've seen much better, but the talented acrobatic shows and other entertainment more than compensate! Although we looked at the spa, we did not use it. Would I return? Yes, you bet! Again, great staff! And, food and drinks were great!

Best beach in Mexico

Nice, hotel, nice rooms, especially the swim up rooms. Get a room with a southern exposure and you are almost guaranteed sun all day long. Building 5 & 6 are the best locations in my opinion. Absolutely the best beach in Mexico, the sand is like powder and not a rock in sight or step. Food was decent, not spectacular, with the exception of the Sushi in the Asian restaurant. Service was excellent, staff go out of their way to ensure you are having a good time. We also enjoyed the various shows in the theater, the outside shows where not so good. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the resort and would go back a 2nd time.

The resort was beautiful and the beach was the best we’ve visited. We visited Secrets Maroma with a group of 16. It was our first friends trip since everyone has had children so we were parents ready to let done and have an awesome trip. I thought the resort was a little pricy. We booked it for 4 days/3 nights. It was more than the usual Amstar resort. But I would follow that up with it was worth it. You can’t go wrong with most of these resorts but we been to 5 in Mexico and again this one had the best beach yet. We spent two of our days playing beach volleyball. The food was par but I’m picky and feel that I am rarely impressed by food options outside of the US. SPA was a 10. Don’t book at check-in you can barter with the spa personnel that will visit the pool. We booked for 8 and got a deal. Overall the grounds were gorgeous. The rooms were slightly dated but they are working on that. I highly recommend!

Overall was excellent. The entertainment team especially!! I️ don’t remember all their names...Karla, Gabriella, johnathan, victor, Alex. etc!!!! They were all great!!! They would go out of there way to make you happy. Some of them were even mos treated by guests, and they still maintained professionalism!! Activities were perfect!! Night life was just enough!! And food was good!! Especially the sushi!!! Thank you so much, and we will be back next year.
