The hotel was beautiful with amazing views and beautiful halls with lots of vegetation. The food was great very clean and the staff extremely friendly all the time. I feel it needs to have more night entertainment . But loved the resort!!!

We just returned Saturday from a week stay. We had 42 people in our group this year for what has become an annual trip. Like most people I read lots of reviews before our trip and was concerned with the inconsistency. I am admittedly easy to please and having been to a similar resort in the past and enjoying that experience I felt pretty confident that I knew what to expect. Even with that in mind I was pleasantly surprised. The check in went rather smoothly even though we showed up with 42 people.(granted it was @ 10:30 am and we had to return to get keys) However, they did provide us with drinks, bracelets and our room numbers so that we could reserve our dinners. We obviously had to break up into smaller groups for dinners but were able to eat everywhere we wanted. Our room was pretty standard but was on the ground floor as I requested and couldn't have been in a better location. The person organizing our trip had called the resort previously to explain that we had a large rowdy group and as such should be kept away from kid friendly areas. We had no insect issues or mold that I had read about in other reviews and the room was clean. I am a big believer in tipping and its effects on the service you receive and left a few bucks for the housekeeper each day. My fridge was stocked each day even with extra beer and snacks. The air conditioner was fantastic and kept the room nice and cool. The food was over all very impressive. You have to lower the bar a bit when you are at an all inclusive but this was the best of the 4 I have been to. Breakfast buffet pretty standard but tons of options including custom omelets. The snack bar by the pool was just ok but it served its purpose. The dinner buffet at the Palace is a must. They are supposed to charge you $5 if you're not staying there but we weren't charged. I had 2 ribeye steaks and 4 grilled half lobsters. We also collectively drank about 7 bottles of wine. This is the first all inclusive I have been to that includes lobster at no additional charge and I ate it every day for the first 3-4 days usually with steak. The restaurants we ate at were, Tokyo, Sante Fe, Mare Nostrum and paid $20 to eat at Rodizio. all far exceeded expectations. The beach is absolutely beautiful and the staff work tirelessly to keep it that way. We would stay up very late and go to the beach to find them picking up the seaweed that washed in. We went to the cenote (Azul) across the street from the resort and it was awfully cool for $6 a person. We rented jetskis and had a blast, saw the dolphin show and a couple of the nightly shows that were entertaining. This being first and foremost a "get away from the kids and party hard" trip we spent a lot of time at the Tropical pool bar. The bartenders there became familiar with our group very quickly and made fantastic (muy fuerte) drinks frequently punctuated with shots. We had an impromptu belly smacker/speedo contest the last day that drew some unwanted attention of the lifeguard and hotel management but once we stopped we were thanked profusely for our generosity toward the bartenders and the staff in general. We had a spectacular time and are extremely thankful to the entire staff (especially the bartenders at the tropical pool bar). I cant wait till next year! Gracias!

Was looking for a little getaway trip with my husband since we've been so busy being new parents. We chose Barcelo Maya Tropical because of the good reviews. The hotel is a huge property that consist of several buildings. We were checked into room 7145 in the Yucatan area located on the first floor. Upon arriving to the room, there was an odor which smells of mold. We found stains on 3 out of 4 pillowcases, the top flat sheet and the refrigerator leaking water from the bottom. The bellman arrived with our luggage shortly and we asked him whether he smell mold, his response was it is air freshener. We were very skeptical of it but decided to go grab some dinner and watch a show they were performing that night. I called housekeeping to report the stained linen and to have the refrigerator fixed before we left. When we return to the room approximately 11pm, the odor of mold was very strong and we called the front desk to request for a room move. The pillowcases was the only thing that was changed. The issue with the sheet and refrigerator was not rectify. I spoke to Tomas Sosa and he informed me it was too late to change room. He advised me to call back in the morning, speak to his supervisor Andi and assures me we would be moved to another room. My husband and I did not get any sleep because the unbearable smell. I called the front desk at 8:30am requesting to speak to Andi about the situation; however, Armando informed me he was on his breakfast break. I explained the situation to Armando and requested to move to another room. He informed me he will not be able to move me until after 3pm but I would need to move out of the room first so they can prepare it for the next guest. I informed Armando I would prefer to be moved directly to the new room first to avoid the inconvenience of moving my belongings back and forth. In addition, we had our valuables in the room safe and did not want to take it with us. After explaining it to him, he puts Andi Hernandez on the phone. He insist on moving us after 3pm and claims that the rooms would not be ready until then. I am personally working in the hospitality field and is fully aware of the protocol. I explained this to Andi and told him it does not take a whole day to clean 1 room. It takes 30 mins to clean 1 room. Andi did not even try to assist with the situation and after going back and forth, he finally ask me to call back at 1pm to see whether the room would be ready. Shortly after (9:38am), Carla from housekeeping called to inquire whether we needed our room to be cleaned since we had the do not disturb sign hanging at our door. I told her I am waiting to be moved to another room. I also verified with her the time the room attendants started working (9am) and the duration of how long it would take to clean the rooms (30 mins). She said she had room attendants cleaning the room at the moment. I contacted Andi after breakfast and he insisted the room would not be ready until after 3pm. I told him I spoke to Carla and the conversation we had. He did not believe me and called Carla in front of me to verify. After he hung up the phone and about 30 minutes later at the front desk, he told me to come back by 11:30am and he would have a room for me. I told him someone can get very sick from staying in that room with the mold smell. He said he is aware of this and that all rooms on the 1st floor are like that. As a supervisor, Andi should be more accommodating and show more willingness to assist. When we arrived to our second room 7239, we found fresh blood stain on the duvet cover. I notified the room attendant who was down the hall cleaning. She contacted her supervisor to have someone change it. During the stay, it was so humid the floor had a large amount of water condensation. We had to place towels on the floor to walk. Other than the bad experience with weather, the front desk and cleanliness of the rooms, we had an good time. The staff by the pool, bar and restaurant was very nice. We found a mall area which was nice because it gave us something to do instead of just being stuck in one area. The food in our resort was no good. We ended up going to buffet in the mall area to eat everyday.

Just returned from a 5 night stay with my wife and 2 kids (11 & 13). We had a great time. Buffet food was good. The Restaurants were great. I realize that it is August and it is gonna be hot but my god it doesn't cool down in the evenings. We would walk to the Beach resort cause they have air conditioning in their bar to try to cool down and play cards before the show. The Tropical does not have an air conditioning in their bar. Probably the only real complaint I would have was the consistency on the drinks was bad. I could order the same drink at two different bars and get two completely different tasting drinks. Wasn't a big deal cause I was with my kids and I wasn't there for that, but if it would have been a couples vacation I probably would have complained. I would return with my family but probably not with only adults.
